Quite a few companies do this. Even within the same market segment. I've seen one branch of the same company in the same market segment using a competitor over using another branch of the same company because the competitor was cheaper up front, allowing them to make more profit on the initial installation. Despite the fact that using their own company would result in more profit for the company as a whole over the lifetime of the product. A lot of companies metrics are designed around short term goals and profit, and the way these companies make decisions is a direct result of the short-term focus of their KPI's Most people who work for the company I'm referring to have the opinion that they'd be the largest company in the market if they weren't too busy fighting internally within departments for the same customers.

@@shaeD96 $200 is just above the $100 “disposal” line, but just enough to save or fork over more to gain access to either an “exclusive feature“ or for “access.” Apple are masters at this with their entry level pricing schemes vs the most “comfortable” experience in their devices (see: entry level 64/128 gig models vs 256/512 pricing) From a purely business/economics/profit standpoint, Sony’s MBA’s out did themselves here. The most silly argument was the one that they make for PSVR as well. The argument of you must but a PS5 and a Portal to get handheld gaming when you can buy a Steam deck or a Switch etc. This people don't get that the device is for those that already invested in having a PS5 console. Is not to convince the guy with a Steam deck to buy a PS5 with a Portal just because now he can play PS5 in his bed. The whole "who would want this" fail to realise that people who have a PS5 might want this.

I sort of see where you are coming from but it would also be like saying you always have to be online to play multiplayer games. On PlayStation both PS3 and PS4 had remote play options and I did use it on both, the portal is much better but also you don't have to use it if you don't want to. The thing is that there's a huge generation of gamers that had a bunch of free time and space so they didn't really care for it wherein now they are either parents, working full time, in committed relationships, just plainly just have a lot more going on and that's part of the reason the switch is so successful. Pretty much everyone that I know who has a PS5 also has a portal and they use it equally if not more than their TV. But once again this is just a feature, an option, it's not mandatory. I do have a separate launch PS5 that I've never updated as an experiment and so far have been able to play most games without any issues, minus always online games or games that don't contain all the data in a disc format.

Many who had Playstation and Switch started playing more on their Switch because they didn't have to sit in-frond of the TV and could just sit in bed or somewhere in their house in peace and play. @GLC48
@GLC48 Месяц назад
That’s a pretty disingenuous way of putting it. You’re missing 2 points of distinction here. One, the screen size is much larger than a phone. It’s closer to tablet size, and unlike phones, not everyone has a tablet. And not everyone would want to buy one just for remote play. This provides an option for people in that niche. Two, the controller is connected to the sides of the screen which is more convenient than the alternative of connecting a controller to a tablet. Laying in bed or on the couch trying to prop up a tablet in your lap while you have the controller in your hand is annoying. Keeping track of 2 separate devices is annoying, especially if you’re traveling. Making sure both devices are charged is annoying. This solves those problem by merging them into one device. I don’t even own one of these and I personally am not interested in getting one, but like Linus says in the video, you have to view products from the perspective of someone who would be interested in getting one to give a fair judgement.

@alexisestrada9188
@alexisestrada9188 Месяц назад
Important context: As a consumer here in the US it's been a pain and a half to even get the Portal. Especially for my family until the supply issue was fixed. Finally got 4 (yes I have at least 4 PS5's) total and everyone has been enjoying theirs but seriously this thing kept selling out everywhere for the longest time. So yeah I do believe that Sony is surprised on how well it is selling especially compared to their other accessories and even competitors. For example a lot of friends have Nintendo Switches either for themselves, their kids, or both and most have stick drift issues and yet they don't get replacements. Fewer of them buy additional controllers or pro variants. Now compare Microsoft and the PS4 and PS5 player base is already skewed in PS favor, PC can add some numbers but more and more are getting Dualsenses but overall prefer Mouse and Keyboard. Lastly this is based on dollar sales and $200 is much more than your average controller or accessory, including headsets because the average player either just doesn't buy one of them or buy the cheaper ones. Controller wise as a comparison the Dual Sense Edge was never sold out in my region and I also like my Edge but no one else in my family wanted one. Sooo all that said does the original context really matter? I normally always agree that more info helps but in this case it doesn't really take much effort on one's own market research to come to the same conclusion. Mind you again Sony thought this was just going to be a niche product.

As a PC gamer who no longer has time to sit down in the living room or my desk to focus on a game, I've recently picked up a bunch of emulation handhelds, and even a Nintendo Switch Lite, so I can play games in bed. And it has opened me up to enjoying so many more games that I could trying to play at my entertainment setups. If I had a PS5, I would absolutely have a Portal.

I enjoy my Portal. I just wish it had a few features: -multi-user support. I lent it to my wife to try, and she couldn't cause it's locked to my account -PS4 support. (especially since it's Android-based, and their Android app does it) I have most of my PS4 games, on my PS4 for 2 reasons. 1) The lack of folder support/the small icon limit on the dashboard, would make my massive collection a pain to put on my PS5. 2) some games, The Outer Worlds and Jurassic World Evolution specifically, crash so much on PS5 that I don't understand how they were released or how they got a paid PS5 upgrade (TOW) sequel (JWE) that they have the gall to ask me money for when they haven't fixed the first version -enable bluetooth support for other controllers. For the Access controller at least -enable zooming in remote play. It's currently locked out. It's getting harder for me to see small screens. You can even put it on the Portal side (vs the PS4/PS5), let us move magnifier widgets around -use the Android onscreen keyboard when the PS4/PS5 keyboard pops up. The touchscreen is much faster But they still don't even let us invert Y at a system level, so I don't know why I expect/request other harder-to-do accessibility stuff

Yeah, For example, look at both the Sony Inzone buds and Sony Explore buds they came out 2 months apart. I got both they are amazing for different reasons, both are Sony but the Inzone buds are from the Japanese team (These guys make the XM series) and the Explore buds are made by the now Sony Audeze team in the US, these guys need no further introduction. Totally different teams and probably these teams don't have a single clue of what one and the other are doing next. I strongly recommend the Explore if you got the portal though, they sound incredible with the right ear tips and will give you the absolute best audio performance from your portal, and yes even 3D Tempest if the audio engine supports it natively.

I was just wondering is there a way to know that LMG does not take money from a specific sponsor? Do we take their word for it? Just asking it politely.
@Aldracity
@Aldracity Месяц назад
Sorta. The main thing is creators legally need to disclose if something is sponsored. Small creators do try to scam their way past this requirement, but much like the DMCA it becomes way harder to get away with and more punishing when you're a bigger target.

Unless LMG start selling their stock on a stock exchange, they're not behold to anyone other than their investors and owners. SO yes... It's a trust me bro, and that applies to ANY private company. Much like any other youtuber out there. They do need to follow any regulation that applies to them, so they would have to disclose any sponsorships... But unless you want to invest in their company and become an owner, they don't have to disclose anything to us the public unless they are required to. We can only audit them if we complain to regulators, and even then... you probably won't even find out in detail other than "yes we found them at fault, or no they're doing fine".
@SIPEROTH

Well he could lie to us but if a lie of him was ever revealed he will be in big trouble not just because of losing trust etc but because he will be actually legally liable since he has to disclose such things even under the law.

@@sebastianblake6119 You could also use a normal controller and get a phone mount for tens of dollars, or just prop the phone up on a table (although at that point it's not quite an equivalent product I'll admit). $100-$200 extra just for a slightly larger screen just for PlayStation games seems cheap to you? Seems like a lot to me. If you don't think it's too much then I don't see why you wouldn't spend just half again as much to get a G Cloud or refurbished Steam Deck that will do the PlayStation streaming just as well and much more besides.
@AstralDragn
@AstralDragn Месяц назад
@@VitalVampyr convenience props it up heavily. Also bluntly speaking phones perform very differently when under the strain of running remote play. Then theres the entire process of getting the controllers ready to pair, which nukes the controllers connection to the console so you have to do that again if you want to use them together directly Then theres the fact that a dedicated device means your phone won't be occupied if you need it for something else, many people use their phones even while they're gaming nowadays, whether looking stuff up, or filling downtime, or even just staying in contact with others. Your phone is generally, a lot more valuable being free than it is being a screen to connect to your console.

I’m a professional photographer. Sony’s camera and camera production division is ENTIRELY different than the rest of Sony. The only major connection is that they work in proxy with Columbia studios simply due to product adjacent needs. Sony’s camera sector (can’t remember the original company’s name) is still essentially the exact same company they were when Sony bought them. Sony essentially bought the company, said “give us a cut, and carry on.”
