Never say anything negative in the interview. Nothing negative about getting fired, no negativity about your weaknesses or don't say anything negative about the previous jobs.

In todays world, its best to do YOU and stay away from after work activities with coworkers & unfriend everyone.

They cannot give this man good advice because they do not know what he actually posted online

He either works for a super woke company or he posted something pretty bad. I have a hard time believing somebody shares an innocent barely debatable joke and then they get fired after having been loyal for 26 years. The call was pointless because he didn't share it what he posted. Therefore it's completely impossible to evaluate and advise.

Delete all social media accounts. It will be the best thing that you have ever done.

This one hits home. I got let go for a policy violation with a job I loved. I also felt like a victim and was wrongfully terminated by corporate, but I had to take ownership in it and accept that sometimes life's just not fair.

Ken gave terrible advice!! Do NOT tell a future employer that you got fired..ever! There are strict laws around what type of information a new employer can ask about you in references and nearly all companies will not go into details about situations around getting fired So if you want to get a new job do NOT tell them you got fired for being racist, tell them that management was shifting things around etc.

In interviews, the company is mostly looking for how likable you are.

For a company to fire a good worker after 26 six years like that doesn’t make sense. They could have temporarily suspended him without pay, made him apologize etc. Whatever he said must have been way out of line. He could just say what he did if it was really that innocent and everyone except management agreed with him. He probably made a racist or discriminatory joke, clearly still thinks that’s ok and thinks he’s the victim. If he had a legal recourse for wrongful termination he would’ve taken it.

As someone who has interviewed lots of people I would probably not do this. A lot of times it depends on the company but a lot of times they will just call your direct supervisor and sometimes they can't go into detail about why anything happened, I know our company the only official company answer that was allowed was yes that person worked here and for how long, the only way to get more info was to call either supervisor and co-workers because management could not say anything else. What I would do is talk to your old direct supervisor and make 100% sure he will give you a good review. Then give him as a reference along with co-workers who will vouch for you as well. Then if asked just say there was a disagreement with upper management and you were let go but any of the workers and direct supervisors will vouch for you.

That is hypocritical of John to say that the man shouldn't ever write posts on social media that hurt people's feelings. John says things all the time that hurt people's feelings. Why? Because it's the truth and people need to hear it. Also you are never going to be able to appease everyone. I don't know what Craig wrote but it sounds like he lost his job because of politics.

No interviewer is going to continue after hearing what these two are suggesting. Saying the company downsized is going to be much less of a third rail.

So take ownership when you are wronged and treated totally thrown to the wolves and kick to the curb after 26 years loyalty ?!?!

At a summer internship, I asked my black co worker if he wanted to play Randy from American Idol for our short skit. He was offended and I got reprimanded for being racist. I never spoke to that co worker and his groupie the rest of the summer. LOL people are absolutely snowflakes.

I've been in corporate for 10 years. Alot of people make racist comments towards me not thinking it's racist. Ex. oh you're Mexican. could you cut my grass?

I was terminated because of a personal conflict coming from my manager's side. I worked for a company for a month, the sales manager hired me as an assistamt manager. Before everything got official, i was told that the manager was the one that normally hires. Since the first day i saw that the manager didnt like me. The day she fired me she said that "i did not do and did not obtain what i was supposed to obtain/do". I asked what she meant specifically and she said there was nothing else she could say. She also fired me when the sales director was on vacation. Before i started working there, all employees were black; the day i got fired i forgot my umbrella and when i went to get it, there was already a new employee and she was black too. I know what she did. Im not racist but she discriminated. Now im not fighting for the job because i realised how lazy and stupid the sales assistant hired her (the manager), she had almost no experience, and before working there the other employees got caught sleeping. Yes, that kind of people. This company do not deserve me, i realised how 2 faced the sales director is (shes a woman too).

It sounds like he needs to sue for wrongful termination, companies do not have the right to fire for you free speech on your own time.

Right to work has nothing to do with his firing. Right to work means he can't be compelled to join a union as a condition of employment. He's referring to an at-will state, where he can quit or be fired at any time for any reason, or no reason.

At least he's a millionaire in case he can't find a new job

This will be coming for us all. embrace it and accept responsibility. My approach to this topic is not right for everyone. I am not about your business Everything is offensive to someone. If you even occassionally go to a shooting range, do farming or gardening, or volunteer at church or with a religious charity - you should probably not allow your employer to see that. Can you blame them when the Department of Homeland Security and politicians all the way to the top want to condemn half the country? We are too weak to tell our leaders they are divisive and dishonest.

I disagree with John that the poor guy who was fired after 26 years on the job sounded bad. I'm so sick of the p.c. tyrants who take offense at every little thing someone says gives them license to destroy someone's career or life. It's an outrage. My heart goes out to him.

Wish we have the actual "offense". People are mad if you don't use a made up pronoun. This easily could be a ridiculous show of force by management to make sure xyz group doesn't get mad this guy works there. They'd rather lose a good worker vs stand up and defend free speech, simple mistakes, etc because the possible consequences are from boycott, lawsuit, to stores being looted and workers assaulted.

Weird answer. I think the show wanted to be PC. I think its more honest to just say I was terminated. If asked why, explain I shared this, show post and be honest, I learned not to share anything not work related in shared chats. If asked more, say I don't think this was offensive and see what the other person says. If the new company is too woke you may not to work there. Note: I'm saying this because if the post was really racist we would not be agree to show it.
