Don’t ever say these are a waste!!!! The absolute easiest winch on earth to rebuild and buy parts for!! Plenty of tutorials on every stage of the rebuild!!!
Pleeeaaassseee rebuild it! Its super easy to do! I've rebuilt mine that was in a lot worse condition. Once it's rebuilt you'll have one of the best winches ever made. I put mine on a 1987 diesel Land Cruiser.
Luckily WARN wench is manufactured in Clackamas Oregon you could just go down there and get a rebuild kit and I would recommend getting a synthetic rope it's not much more than buying a new cable
Sad to hear you wasted $500.00, some things found at a wrecker are wrecks. To rebuild might cost more than purchasing a new unit...sometimes. But, on the other hand. You are learning how it works and how to disassemble/assemble and that is a valuable knowledge. plus, your having fun, we are enjoying watching you.
I can’t believe you did not test it first you got lucky that it even worked!!!! I made that mistake too ended up going and buying a smitty built and called it a wash buy the time that I would have to rebuild it I could of bought a brand new one you live and learn!,

I’m thinking that thing you got might be useful for anything and I wonder if it is possible to create a homemade motor lift with pulleys. I’m not sure if any sense to you. Just trying to help.
Before you cut them Gables you should always tape it with electrical tape and then split it in the middle are you going to cut it that way you don't free back out cuz I'm not stuff being used it'll all get Crazy On You there's nothing wrong with that winch line all you got to do replace the eye. Before you replace the eye you need to learn how to braid an eye. Go to an industrial supply house buy a wire rope socket and prayed the Rope socket into the eye that way the I don't wear out
That thing is a boat anchor. If you don't want to shell out the cash for a new Warn, most guys around Oregon running at the dunes or browns camp run Smittybuilts. You can get a 10,000-12,000 brand new for what you paid for that warn. That warn you got sells for around $100-$150 at out truck meets.
