I am less of a believer than you are when it comes to some things. But the one thing I can always support you on is the way you arrive to what you believe. You aren't told to believe things. You don't force people to believe in things. The reason why I watch your videos is because at least I always know this: If you believe in something, it was your decision. It wasn't something your husband made you believe, or your church made you believe. You have an opinion that you arrive to objectively and honestly. There are many people in any faith you can name that don't have the bravery to do that. You believe in God because you wish to. And you do good things because of him. Not because some pastor scared you with visions of hell as a child, or you like being righteous about something. I will never say a word against the type of faith you have.

Great video Alana, I laughed when you asked was Ken important 😂! At one point I bought a G.I Joe because Ken wasn’t just man enough to me. Happy New Year 🎉and God Bless

I watched it and thought it was awful, the movie really does push such an awful agenda. The first relationship God designed , marriage was looked down on in such a way. Ken being so passive then, the woman manipulating the situation to get to fight each other🤦🏻‍♀️. Make girls think boys are idiots and useless, the irony , to ridicule them; yet, they , “ want equality “and respect but, de emasculate the men! 🤦🏻‍♀️ How hypocritical, nothing amusing to me about that. If the shows would be flipped, feminists would be banning this movie. Don’t be blinded! See it for what it is, using it as it’s only a movie, don’t take it so seriously, that’s how we get desensitized! What brainwashing technique 🤯! Girls are capable of all they show being respectful, loving without putting anyone down!! No one , we are called to be full of God’s love and Grace.

While I haven’t seen the movie, I’ve heard it reviewed and was wondering… that last scene with going to the gynecologist almost made me think it was an allusion to IVF. 😱 Like… she’s decided she wants children, but they don’t seem to include a man in that whole scenario… is it as if she’s starting the process of pursuing motherhood on her own? 🥴 (Which would still fit with the feminist narrative of the beginning.) Or maybe that’s a bit of a stretch… like I said, I didn’t actually see it.

I took the babydoll bashing scene to portray that Barbie came on the scene and suddenly everything else wasn’t good enough anymore. All the little girls wanted was Barbie. I don’t think it was to bash motherhood or homemaking. Especially since most girls used Barbie as another way to act out motherhood and homemaking with the other dolls like Kelly, Chelsea, Skipper, and Stacey. Ken could be easily replaced with GI Joe, especially if you had a brother who more than likely had one. Whenever I played Barbies with my sister or my friends, it was almost always as a way to portray motherhood in a developmentally appropriate way. Motherhood has always been a big part of what Barbie represented. Although I do remember when Midge (the pregnant Barbie) came out it was a big deal because childbirth wasn’t considered appropriate for children to be learning about, not because Barbie couldn’t be a mother.

Me and my 19 year old loved it, other than the initial scene( hated that one), but it was not meant to be taken seriously. We laughed and cried. I am a bible believer and was not offended. All the negative press from Christians gave it more power than it needed.

Thanks Alana. I've only seen a few reviews on Barbie. I like yours the best. This is from a guys perspective. Not a father. But I think your view comes closest to my own which is it wanting to understand where it was coming from. Its potential good points. And its dangers. The reason i saw it was because i was bored one night, like Margo Robbie as an actress and heard it was a pretty good movie. I saw it weeks if not months after it came it, thus streamed it. So i just watched it for the creative movie aspect reason. But i would have liked to more so have watched it with your eyes and heart going in. I think i have that curiosity about the movie...but at the time i think it was just a bit more one dimensional for me kinda...just being honest. But the passion i do have is seeing things like you do. Looking for the good, the bad, and the ugly and just let it be. Amen sister. Because this movie got so much reveiw, i liked to see like the different stances from Daily Wire (there is a difference even between Michael Knowles and Ben Shapiro for example). And see from a less conservative view like from Dean Lentini's YT channel (reformed pastor with a chill discussion channel--I'm no longer reformed but i like Dean because he is very interested in seeing"real," and often criitiques his own camp). On a movie like this i could become like a Barbie Review junkie because people's varying perspectives super fascinate me. The way i would see this movie in general is a cultural moment to understand (for the believer) what our misssion field looks like more intimately. But I think the movie itself tried to play to both feminism and conservative. I believe that might be why you feel confused? The marketing that wants it like a politian to say different things to different people? That is how i took it. My favorite line was Barbie: "I don't want to!" But i am glad you wanted to do this reivew. It is filled with genuine heart and sound reasonableness in Him to understand and cherish what we might. Like you even Phil 4:8ed barbie. Nice one :) Being able to relate with others in how we share this world...never looses its supernatural charm. Thanks so much dear sister for sharing from the heart. Blessings. PS DISCLAIMER -- THIS PART MIGHT BE BORING -- BUT...Strange Artifcat from the Geeky Corners of My Mind (since we are on the subject): I believe Feminism largely arose in the USA as a way to make 2 income families normal (my own view is more patriacharl but God is sovereign and very much a part of providence...and i'm not against 2 family incomes...just saying). Sure the enemy would want to confuse the mother role. But i think the reason for feminism was to keep up with central banking American dollar value depletion (because the FED charges us to use our own money--a debt system in play). Same with the start of 1950 credit cards...kind of thing. I mean i believe there are of course a lot of different reasons. But keeping a debt system alive and thriving (i believe its shelf life or lasticity is 50 to 80 years).

Thanks for sharing your thoughts! I also agree that it seemed like contradictory messages were being pushed, whether or not the makers of the movie intended that to be the case. I'm also glad you also saw that the way that the Barbies "restored order" was not by purely good means because I saw that too and haven't seen any others point that out. Overall though I think the movie is enjoyable and I've watched it 3 times, but I'm also able to parse out the messages I disagree with

Wow. I cannot believe how much our opinions of this movie line up. I watched it with my very mature 13 year old with a light, but prayerful heart and it was, indeed, a lot to ponder in the end. When I say she is mature I mean she looked at me in sheer confusion/apprehension when there was that iffy scene of the Ken’s repeating a line that sounded inappropriate 🤦‍♀️ Otherwise, it made for an interesting and yes, somewhat entertaining adventure.

Sexual innuendo is a really big deal at that age. It puts thoughts in your innocent mind that you would have never thought of. There are chick flicks I wish I had never seen at 15 or 16 years old. Just my experience as a grown woman now.

So I think the beginning showing motherhood in a bad light was probably a way to show the major way that Barbie changed by the end of the movie ( I haven’t seen it yet myself ) from it being looked down upon to being desired .

I haven’t seen the film but it wasn’t surprising to hear you found it confusing. I think that was likely the idea behind the movie… to please multiple groups of people and leave things open to interpretation in order to make the most money possible (as is the goal with any large budget film) I still think maybe I will watch it with my husband and give it a chance. I’m the type where more often than not when I see a lot of hype around something I almost instinctively go in the opposite direction and wait a while to see if I’m genuinely interested so to me your video wasn’t late but right on time. 😉

I watched it last night and laughed multiple times at a movie which is rare for me, haha. It’s interesting to witness worldly perspectives and affects of the fall on humanity then compare all this to God’s truth in his word. Ken’s pink, tie-die sweatshirt at the end, “I am Kenough”😂

Haha! I WILL NOT watch it unless like you, I’m with people who watch it. But, it’s different processing the movie as an adult verses a 13 year old girl. I think they had an agenda and it was accomplished. I don’t think it was JUST a movie.

I actually enjoy the opening and closing scene of the Barbie movie. As terrible as that opening scene was, it was true in that the facade of this self sufficient “boss babe Barbie” made a bunch of little girls think they should hate being a mother in that it is “limiting them” so it made them want to crush their baby dolls in a pursuit of being a more self seeking power house. I wonder if that scene wasn’t to be like “yes crush all your baby dolls because being like Barbie is better!” But rather to expose that it tricked little girls in to thinking that and that crushing their desire to play house was ultimately a BAD thing. Then at the end of the movie it comes full circle and Barbie herself realizes what a lie the whole “boss babe mentality” is and it’s so much more beautiful and life giving to embrace motherhood- the thing little girls always aspired for from the beginning before Barbie came along with empty promises. I actually thought it was great in that respect. It almost seemed like it was exposing the smoke and mirrors of the feminist agenda and shining a light on the beauty of traditional motherhood that that is actually the more purposeful and meaningful life. I don’t know if that was intentional or not but that’s how I received it and thought it was a super compelling storyline in that respect.
@Loves2HugItOut
@Loves2HugItOut 7 месяцев назад
But I defintely agree I did not like the victim mentality sob speech. In some ways I can resonate with wanting to “vent” about these things but we ALWAYS need to let that go even if there is some truth to the fact that the world places judgements and standards on us- we even in the flesh can place on ourselves unbiblical standards and guilt trips, and we can not only do this to ourselves but point the finger on other people. And like you said men also have these same kind of impossible standards that your “damned if you and damned if you don’t” sort of speak, but we CANNOT stay in that “woe is me” mindset because it will only breed bitterness and like you said a victim mentality. Even if the flesh or this world creates these type of impossible standards when we walk in the Spirit we know that those hyper critical standards are not of God and we do not have to live in those kind of chains. We can rest in grace. This goes for both men and women. So all in all I can sympathize with the struggle of the impossible standards we might FEEL and maybe the world system wants us to be in bondage to, and I genuinely feel for all the men and women out there who really believe whatever they do is never enough or “right”, but at the end of the day we have to come into agreement with biblical reality and not get trapped by victim mentalities our flesh is so prone to fall into.

@@Sunshineanddaisies16 interesting comment, thanks! I think we all also have to remember this film in no way, shape, or form ever claimed to be a “Christian movie” lol this is a secular film and so I’m not sure why we are placing all these expectations and standards on a film that never claimed to be Christian or biblical in the first place. Really, for a secular film I thought this movie had a lot of profound and beautiful parts and messages! Of course we can sift through it with a fine tooth comb but that’s being a little ridiculous to me! Again, if this was some kind of “Christian Barbie movie” I’d give some of these critiques, but it’s not, so I give it kudos all in all and I enjoyed it!

Hello, I've recently joined a calvanist discord and have been chatting with them. I think I agree with a lot of what calvanists say right now and I can see a biblical basis for there claims. Only thing I really think I disagree on is total inability of being dead, meaning being unable to accept the gospel unless you are regenerated first. Also been watching a calvanist youtube channel and I can see why it might sound right. But I have seen this with other views that appear to be biblical too.

You have to see if you agree with the things that actually set them apart. I agree with a lot of things Calvinists believe. The actual points of contention are the ones you need to check on. Example, what you already see you do not agree with. That would be the T in their tulip. If you end up agreeing with it, you’ll eventually agree with entire system. It’s built in the T

Where does the bible teach that God determines everything? Lamentations 3:37-38 I'm in a similar position I am now with calvanism that I was with a street preacher youtube channel that tried to use the gospels to convince people that Christians have to live on the streets preaching the Gospel. I don't have a problem with that biblically I think yes we should do that if we are called to but I don't think Jesus message or example is meant for us to be followed like monkey see monkey do type of thing. And some of the things Jesus did, we can't do anyways at least the miraculous stuff he did like walking on water and feeding 5,000 people with a tiny amount of food.
