Marco is the character with most unexplained plot points I have ever seen. No explanation for his cheek marks, no explanation for his monster arm, no explanation as to why Toffee always acted different around him (even when Marco attacked him, Tofee's reaction wasn't of a smug one like everyone else, but something close to feeling betrayed), no explanation to that last wound he got, no explanation as to why the wand turns into that monsterish form, no explanation as to why he can use the wand if he's not Mewman, no explanation about his time in the dimension where he grows up, which means he's 30 freaking years old trapped in a 14 years old body; and no explanation as to how he's able to remember the Moon Blood ball even when it was completely destroyed from his mind! How many plot points can you miss like that???? Also, the whole freaking "Mewman come from Humans who went into Mewni", which could mean that one of them may have come back and could be Marco's ancestor. NOPE!! Lets talk more about Star Butterfly, because we can't get enough of her, right???
The sad part is, they had the PERFECT CHANCE to cover most of these plot points, had they only focused less of the series finale on StarCo and more on an actual plot. Like, what if the wound he got in the Magic Dimension corrupted him, bringing back the Monster Arm and giving some explanation as to why Marco’s wand looked like that. But no, let’s focus the majority of the episode to Starco, because that clearly hasn’t had enough screen time already
That's so true aixhelsidjwkg--- That painting in his room of the old Captain guy would most likely be that ancestor... Maybe? His cheeks also glowed with a crescent moon shape and that got my blood pimpin' because I thought there would be some clarification of that during Season 4, especially before the last episodes, but nO. Oh, and biologically, Marco Diaz is still a teen. His feelings must've reminded him of the Blood Moon curse event or something? Why do they have to give us homework...
@@istoleyourpocky3005 He's a teen with the mind of a 30 years old man. Everytime he goes back to that dimension he has no problem acting like an adult. Heck, you can see a change between the time prior to the dimension and after. Marco acts a lot more mature when he comes back from being "SUPER-ABS!" McDude.
The thing that bugged me the most about this show was when Marco spent sixteen years in an alternate dimension and they never did anything with it, it immediately returned to the status quo and stayed there. Sure, they had the scissors and Marco retained some sword skills, but... I don't know, I would have liked to see a readjustment period to life on Earth again, a change in the relationship dynamics between him and any of the other characters, something.
Yes that was my biggest problem too (as a huge fan, mind you) especially since they made it seem like it would be important (him not remembering his computer password which was Jackie's Birthday when I remember right. I mean they take it up again in season 4 and I really liked these episodes, but this was unbelievable frustrating at the time
I personally hated how they did that. Espeshly when it comes to the shipping factor. If people wanted to ship Marco and Star togeather, there promoting pedophillia, in which Marco is hecking 40 or something, and star is like, 15-
He was only gone for a couple hours on earth. Time works differently in that other dimension. I guess unless you mean an adjustment period for him, In which case that was followed through with in the next few episodes
Honestly, not much has bugged me about SVTFOE. But the one thing that drove me absolutely nuts were THE FORCED RELATIONSHIPS. Marco's relationship with Kelly was purely them being bros for the first 90% of the show. And then, one episode they were both like, "I've got feelings for you". Boom. No foreshadowing, no anything. None of their actions prior to the confession showed any attraction to one another. This makes me mad, and I've seen it in so many shows before (*cough* Voltron *cough cough*). If any of y'all stupid ass show producers is reading this, love doesn't always sell. Not when it's written so badly.
Having a "will they, won't they" romance plot is lowest form of getting someone hooked onto a show. It's unhealthy and manipulative. And the fact that this aspect of the show was fully resolved at the VERY END of the series just shows how little they cared about everything else.
Konvalia Yes thank you!! It really was such an unnecessary and forced relationship. Like seriously, NEITHER of the characters showed any signs of romantic interest whatsoever. It was only until Star was with Tom and Kelly left Tad (coincidentally). Rebound ship 100%. And honestly, the people that complain “why can’t a boy and girl just be friends”, well why on Earth couldn’t Kelly and Marco just be friends?? Especially when they had absolutely nothing to do with each other over the entirety of the show?
If you've ever been part of a fandom (I hope you haven't, they're cancer), you'll notice all the "shipping" that goes on. "Fans" with the mental maturity of an adolescent girl will fantasize about random characters hooking up, regardless of gender, whether one's evil and the other good, or whether they even like each other. As cartoon writers become more and more like the Tumblrite fans that are the "dark side" of their work, such caprices become more and more common.
You must either be using bad headphones, are have the volume too high. At about 100% on my pc, and 50% on yt I never heard a trace of static. Learn to volume control bro.
Well, to be fair, Star giving the wand away was a moment of personal growth for her. She acknowledged that her family has something that doesn't belong to them and gave it back. Though it remains to be seen if that was actually a wise decision on her part, which isn't looking in her favor. But growth doesn't always translate to good decisions, in fact it rarely does. The point is she tried something that goes fundamentally against her character up to that point which is normally self-serving and egocentric. If a character can make such a heavy decision, good or bad, that shows a transformative view on their part, I think that's a huge plus, even if logically things don't really add up or that character's judgement isn't sound.
Orca, she does trust her way too quick tho and about that growth it's under, ones by the magic hands which was honestly a let down we could see her develop without magic and how others be in control instead. I dunno seems more missed opportunity to do more. But it doesn't really change her character in anyway she's still stubborn and her way is the best way. Still loud and still powerful so eh? Family dynamic sure can kinda see it but it's small because her mother just apologises to her mostly and lets her do what she wants.
Brandon Ontama She probably had no problem trusting Eclipsa because in the moment she handed her the wand, baby Meteora hadn’t cried yet. Based on Eclipsa’s reaction, the pin-drop silence, and the return of everyone’s souls, Star thought Eclipsa had just murdered her daughter to save Star’s life. That’s pretty solid reasoning to trust anyone.
Star's wand is a universe-destroying weapon. It should be locked in some vault, not be given to a hyperactive 14-year old. They were lucky all Star did was to burn down the castle town, when she could just as easily rip apart all of reality.

One of the shows biggest problems is that Star is rarely ever in an negative light for her actions, in fact those who are in authority are the bad guys. Therefore, there little room for character growth or development.
I got another problem. This was especially true in Season 1: Marco felt like the designated scapegoat. It actually got annoying. Whenever she did something wrong, he HAD to white knight and take the blame too, even when it went against all logic.
+Tyler Manning Well I mean that's only a problem when you're supposed to look up to the cartoon characters in question. I mean Ren and Stimpy never had to worry about the whole moralizing thing because the creator was very upfront that the cartoon was only meant to entertain. So Ren going crazy and threatening to do things like "gouge your eyeballs out" wasn't a big deal. It was just meant to be funny.
Huh? She is seen in a negative light for things she messed up with. Like loosing the book of spells and Glossaryck for example. there is room for character growth and development.
Speaking of how much a sociopath Star is I first noticed in the episode where she had to take care of Buffrog's babies. It is supposed to be a sort of cute shipping moment between Star and Marco like, "Aw, this is what it will be like when THEY have kids together.!" But Star until that point only had one other interaction with his babies that went like: "Tadpoles... ew" That was six episodes before the one in question and she hadn't had any other interaction with his kids since. The fact that she went from disgusted by the mere sight of his kids to overjoyed by the sight of his kids kind of makes me think that she merely fakes her emotions in order to manipulate those who are close by.
@@melvinmerkelhopper5752we were talking about how much of a sociopath star is. If you look into the show’s cannon, Festivia was the replacement princess for meteora when the MHC swapped the babies. And Festivia the Fun was a pie folk. And escape from pie island showed us who the pie folk are, a bunch of lying, sociopathic, charlatans. They cheat, lie, and steal. Just like the main character we’re supposed to cheer on. Case in point: she’s a descendant of Festivia, and Festivia was a pie folk. Hence, she’s a pie folk.
The Widow's Son to be fair, Mr. Enter hates on Spongebob which is harmless and most likely won't make 7 year old kids into SJW intersectional crossdressing children but will defends shows like SVTFOE and SU which imo actually would do some damage to kids who would watch it and are made by mentally ill people who are using their cartoons as their own Left wing political pedastool therapist instead of talking to real therapists to get help I mean all Zeus Cervas and Casey Alexander did wrong was write cartoons Mr. Enter didn't like, here the writers of these Tumblr artstyle cartoons actually are terrible people in the way they treat their own staff and the way they view the average Middle Class American as evil and hatemongering while they shove in racial stereotypes in their cartoons and say it's progressive. So to be fair, EZ PZ actually has a point. Mr. Enter doesn't
Daimos Z he doesn’t hate the show in general tbh, mostly seasons 6-8. Asides from that, he likes it. Also Cervas wrote a episode were plankton tried killing himself. Nowhere near a whole show. But still bad.

Jenin Muntasser some of it. But barely. Magic changes to suit her she barely had to train for her wings and the magic hands was kinda pulled out of thin air. She doesn't face any serious long lasting consequences, even Marco his relationship with the hairy chick(forgot her name) is cut off due to star and the ship. The thing I liked about the show is that tom broke up with her due to her toxicity, it was so blatant she was barely even trying and just wanted to hangout with other guys (Marco) most of the time. The villains weren't really villains and toffee was so disappointing. Honestly I just felt so detached from her and her experiences due to everything being so convenient.
Some Person Your summary there pretty much also describes the same issues I had with Steven Universe. Everything is made to fit Steven, everything conviently works out for him, Especially the villains part, everyone is misunderstood
@Eric Johnson if you see 100 people commenting on the noise level why would you then go and make another comment about it? Assuming your intentions are for the RU-vidr to correct this mistake. Rather than beating an already dead horse.

I'm so tired of seeing Cal Arts in literally every cartoon. What's even worse is that all of the people that use the art style come from the same place and have very similar politics that seep into the stories their art is put in. It's not a bad art style, but everyone is using it and it's annoying. And Peridot looked so much better before she started shrinking
The Cal-Arts style is simply a term that puts any similar styled show in the same bucket, even if said creators come from a different collage. Everyone is using it because it's easier and follows the idea of shapes and colors showing certain aspects of you, like how if a character is round, soft looking, and has bright or nice colors, they have a very friendly and comforting appearance, via a sharp, pointed character that has many edges and has many dark and dulled colors, which makes them off-putting and "evil" in a sense. To add to this, circles can be seen as friendly, squares are sturdy and strong, and triangles as energetic. Colors play the same aspect. The politics thing I can't explain. Mostly involves teaching lessons the creators want kids to understand. Peridots shrinking is caused by the fact that Steven Universe is animated by 2 or 3 studios, one of the studios being the main issue when it comes to show mistakes, like Peri shrinking.
@@aruce9 Yup. I get lowkey mad whenever people say "Cal-Arts" style. Like, the 4 people that have similar styles went to probably different schools. And I just,,, H

Star is royalty from an alien world that has been sheltered from pretty much everything. She behaves exactly as I would expect a spoiled naive alien teen princess from an aristocratic society would behave actually. She was even low-key racist in the first and second seasons.
Well maybe it was the spoiling that did it 'cause her mum is nothing like that other than the racism. Her dad though...he's done some star level stupid stuff in later seasons.
@@WolframiteWraith Yeah... 14 yo Hormone filled teen is the same as a grown ass adult... Don't you remember how you cringe when pubarty and teen years are involved?
Moon had to deal with her mom passing away, causing her to become queen, when she was Stars age. She kind of had to grow up really fast, so it makes sense that she was more mature.
I was watching Sailor Moon and there are similarities between Usagi (Sailor Moon)and Star, however Usagi has good qualities and she does her best to improve herself but often fails but at least she tries. Star on the other hand, simply does not learn from her own mistakes and obviously lacks all the things that Usagi from Sailor Moon has. At least Star's boyfriend has a tentacle monster inside his arm, I would love to see his character develop more than leave his secret arm unknown due to plot holes that simply are left unnoticed.
Welp, the monster arm was totally forgotten about And agreed. Usagi grows and over time, and learns to take responsibility. She's loyal to her friends and will do anything to protect them and the earth. She's more realistic to an actual teenage girl. Yeah, she sucks at school, and is a lazy, gluttonous crybaby, but it's her kind heart that really makes her a hero In the final season, she refused to kill her enemies anymore. In the final episode, she refused to kill Galaxia and instead rescued her from the literal darkness inside of herself
I've been watching the new duck tales and Webby is basically what characters like Star and Mable should be. She isn't annoying because she's genuinely sweet hearted and endearing, she isn't a complete fuck up and actually contributes to the adventures she goes on and is a badass without feeling annoying. Seriously you gotta watch this show, you can find it on Hulu.
For me, the tentacle arm is a demon lord who is trying to take over the multiverse, who is trapped in Marco's body after trying to posess him as a baby. I this better premise than just something random that is never explained?
I think Adventure Time was trying to mature with its audience. Like how Ben 10 got a sequel with a teenage Ben 10. So the story matured with the audience. When I was 10 I was watching Ben 10. When I was 16, I was watching The Last Airbender, B10 Ultimate Alien, and Finn the human was going through the same emotional and philosophical problems I was. I'm still partial to animations as an adult(I just like them more visually) but I also agree with you that weaponising them is wrong. But I think some cartoons like Avatar and Amazing World of Gumball have managed to appeal to both adults and kids without being borderline propaganda.
What in the world is the propaganda in Star and a little bit of gimbal? Like that’s a strong word for the lessons they try to show or the opinions they put in it, if that’s the case then every show is “propaganda” 😂 I always found it silly when people call things that are considered in the left side of ideals as full on propaganda or being shoved in kids faces when shows have always been like that if it’s shown on a kid’s show or some sort of media, like what in the world.
Well emplemon did a wonderful video on why spongebob is so popular. And he did say at least the first 3-4 seasons was made for both children and adults with the adult themes
Well, the reason I mentioned the whole "5 year" thing is because these are all criticisms that are at least five years out of date. I've never seen his aforementioned cult. Considering the overwhelming praise he has given the past decade of animation in contrast to the one before it, that would be an odd message for his following. What I have seen online is an alarmingly large number of people frothing at the mouth at the mere mention of anything tangentially related to him. I've seen so much blind vitriol that is targeted to him at a personal level, and not at a critical level. Occasionally there are valid critiques of his work and style, but they're almost always criticizing tropes of his very early work which have long since been ironed out. I don't think his videos are flawless but I fucking hate this misguided circlejerk against him, most of which seems to boil down to harmless but eccentric traits associated with Asperger's.
when normal people don't like a show they don't watch it. but when EZ PZ doesn't like a show he makes a hour long roast of the show and goes into detail to why he hates everyone on the staff of the show.
Honestly, I think this show would've been better if it was aimed at teens. (M-rated teens.) It would get rid of the "It's for kids" excuse. Going off topic here, one thing that really bothers me is when people assume a cartoon is aimed at adults if it's not aimed at kids. What about teenagers? Don't we want animation for teenagers as well?
@@martinuribe1524 That's true to some extent. But so far, the only country that acknowledges that young adult animation even exists is Canada. With shows like Total Drama and 6teen.
Also there are some adult jokes in season 1 but this guy critisized it. What's wrong with adult jokes in a cartoon that is aimed for kids and teenagers?
@@-beautylady-7483 The guy had a tentacle arm and the 3 girls fell in love with it, referencing tentacle or tentacle rape hentai, I don't understand what that's doing in a show for kids.
In the episode where Star turns into a rapist butterfly, you’d think they’d at least hint that she has feeling for Marco, since it’s revealed later on that she does, even though she denies it like an anime tsundere. But instead, Marco is the only boy she more or less ignores while in that state, and the guy who she claimed at the time, to be her true love, was what freed her of the puberty curse thing. I thought that this was an extremely blatant way of saying “They aren’t getting together. Stop it, Tumblr.” But then they reveal she actually likes Marco. So... O.K.
@Joshua Serrano I think the bigger problem was that the writers couldn't decide if the show was going to be a teen drama or an absurdist comedy. None of the characters are deep enough for the show to get by from character explorations, and the plot, which tends to be the driving force of absurdist works, doesn't get enough focus to be a draw for the show

Was this show supposed to take place in High School? It's set in Middle School, but it's more like a High School show, what with the action of the characters. Why do shows always portray Middle School as basically High School? I want to know!
In all honesty, my middle school was way more like the stereotypical high school setting than my actual high school. I think maybe we thought that’s what high school was suppose to be like, and since middle schoolers just want to seem older than they are, we acted like the stereotypes. Middle school was full of jocks, mean girls, popular kids, and drama. High school was just dead, you could tell no one wanted to be there and they were just getting through the day. So, I don’t know.
Turns out a lot of that filler is important for later episodes. And star is kinda annoying but lucky the other characters level her out. But YEAH the plot holes is major

Being honest though, I don’t really like the Calarts style. I just looks like you drew a bunch of odd looking circles and ovals and tried to make a face out of it.
The animation for Star from season 2 through 4 I did not like all that much, it looks way to stiff and not as expressive as it use to be, season 1 of Star will always be the best season, manly for the animation being hella good and it’s random humor reminding me of the earlier seasons of adventure time. Also I would not say there’s a Calarts style, every decade has a signature style and the 2010s was the more circle soft shape looking style while the 2000s was more sharp and square and a little stiff. I’m hoping that kind of style will make a comeback again to be honest lol.
The calarts style doesnt exist, its just an easy way to make cartoon faces. They arent even the same, nor does it originate from calarts. Theyre just similar-ish
i like this show but i agree. My main problems are: -relationships between children (marketed to children) -Star is a garbage person -inconsistancy in writing (clearly wants to have a plot but seems to be incapable of focusing or being coherent) -"lol random" humor but i like that they dont have as much of the forced leftist morals as SU. all the political crap is either background or implied or over quickly (excepting the monster subplot which seems to have been written in last minute based on the first episode)
In fact, I think it would be MORE of an indication of a narrative if you were forcing them to NOT have relationships. XD Though I do say I hate the shipping wars. XD
Hailen Ace as a teenager, I find no appeal in a generic annoying and loud blonde who doesn’t listen to anyone as a main character. This is another reason it took me 3 years to finally check out Gravity Falls.
To be fair, storyboards don't have to be gorgeous. As long as all members of the team understand what it's trying to communicate then its fine. In addition it's possible to have more refined drafts. Overall, the quality of how a storyboard looks doesn't dictate the quality of the final product. Its main purpose is for scene composition and story flow.
@Squidward Yeah, I'm aware and that's what I was trying to get across, what I meant by "gorgeous" is that they don't have to have the polish of a da Vinci painting, like EZ implies, to be of quality. You can have unique shots that look beautiful in the final product etc etc and still look like a crab drawing in the storyboard process.
I think its important when you are sending off your work to studios that aren't in house, expecially over seas studios. They dont have access to the storyboardist to clarify.
He compared the look of the storyboards to imply the one that looked more sketchy was of lower quality. Which is why I inferred he thought that dictates quality. Which is why I said "They don't have to be gorgeous" to imply "Looks don't really matter in that department".
I would have if I wanted to talk about the fanbase, but I decided to skip it this time because they haven't done anything crazy enough to make it worth my time to go into it.
I thought they would talk about that in this video, is why I clicked. I'm not talking about the fanbase shipping, I'm talking about in-show shipping. Recently I've put this show on in the background because nothing else was on, and it seemed that every episode that played was obnoxious romance problems rather than actual storyline or adventures. It seems the entire thing is adding ship after ship for the fanbase to quarrel over and fanservice for those ships. It's sort of aggravating to watch.
I disagree with Tom because he has anger issues. Like legit needs therapy anger issues. And dating someone like Star won't exactly be easy for someone who's already walking on a nano line. I think Marco would offer great support as we've seen in one episode. Honestly I think the show would be amazing if it was Tom and Marco and Tom has anger issues and Star is a side character and also Marco (and therapy) help Tom develop, along with bringing confidence and strength to Marco.
@@craigime I'm not saying there aren't any pure or kids cartoons, I'm just saying that some cartoons have dealt with darker subject matters for a very long time. Just look at Watership Down.

The magic in this show is something called a soft magic system. There are no set rules but the are boundaries. A case of this is in books and movies like Lord Of The Rings.
I skip the filler now in the show since most of it is weird or Starco stuff... Starco is fine in general but I feel like that's all that's going on now in the show.
Actually i think the Show got better since the "eclipsas daughter still exists" plot started or a little bit earlier because star started to act a little bit more mature, the plot was interesting and i just love eclipsas personality... But its just my opinion
saittugrulturhal hmm I have to agree but I dont think he became less likeable but more... Forgetable or even more useless because I think the writers were more focused on the plot and the love-triangle and didnt know how to put him inside the story....
Irina ́s Wodka Palace Well if he is likable or not changes depending on who you ask so I won’t argue with you there and I agree, he did became more forgettable. I think it is partly because he no longer has goals that aren’t connected to Star. He feels more like an add-on to Star than his own person. Until the end of season 2 he was the more enjoyable character of the 2, the voice of reason to Star’s insanity while still being a generally nice dude. In season 3 I skipped 1 or 2 Marco focused episode because I couldn’t bear his stupidity and behavior. I expected such behavior from Star at this point, who finally matured a little bit, but not from him. At this point I will continue watching it just to see the ending and gain closure.
Moon and Eclipsa were the only two characters during season 3 that I actually cared about. I thought their vastly different personalities played off each other rather well, even better than Star and Moon. Marco became more of a forgettable tool as time went on and subsequently, less of his original self (Not that safe kid crap, but when he used to be the more grounded character.) The love triangle also became more sickening and the romance itself became unbearable to watch. The kiss scene between Star and Marco felt forced and insulting to me, not because I care about the shippings, but because they did this just to stir up tension between them and Tom...or purely to pander...maybe both. Overall, the writing went downhill with season 3...hopefully season 4 will improve on it.
I like you a lot man. but the way you mix your sound levels gives me mini heart attacks when I just want to listen to you on the background doing homework. You talk really relaxed and soft and then all of a sudden some random sound that is on level max comes on.
48:43 So what I'm hearing is that you don't want a show about a yellow snake that teaches kids about property rights? Dang, there goes my hit new kids show.
I'll be honest. I TRIED. I TRIED giving this show a chance. Nope. It's terrible. It's just the next Pinkie Pie/Mabel Pines (actually no, scratch that, Mabel was well executed and actually had a built character) and some character-devoid boy-next-door. It's trying to be deep and intriguing. However, Star is honestly annoying, chock-full of overdone TV tropes that are shaping her as a "quirky" and "random xD" character. On the other hand Marco serves no purpose other than to "shape" Star's non-existent personality. Same with that girl that he had a crush on - her role in that show is literally pointless. The fact that the show made up a plot on the literally last episode of season 1 made it pointless to watch the first 11 episodes. Everyone is chanting "gIRl PowER" but I see no empowered female lead character in this show. I just see a randomly-picked cookie-cutter ideas from the website TVtropes.com. If you want to watch this show for depth and engaging plot, entertaining jokes and fun characters, you might as well watch Sofia the First or Peppa Pig.
Funny thing I enjoyed watching cartoons because they harmless fun, love the art of animation, not putting to much political massages in the store, the shipping was never the focus. I did try watching more adult shows, but the romance was more childish since these were adults doing this and the sleeping around. I am very picky when it comes to both animation and live action adult shows. I don’t mind a deeper story but sex and drama does not make it mature. That being said I agree with you on Star (and many nowadays cartoons)is not a good show for kids, i thought it was supposed about her making mistakes but learning from them, you know kinda like Pinocchio, but instead of becoming a real boy she becomes someone ready to rule and guide her people. This just turn to a weird mismatch and muddled story.
It's about the writing instead of morals, but it is written as, well... as the writing of a toddler, if you're looking for the more simpler shows this generation, there's Wonder Over Yonder and We Bare Bears.
Kent Scamsley yeah I do like those shows, I don’t mind complex shows if it was will written, this show had potential, as you said it seems to be written by toddlers.
You know what I disliked *so* much, is the fact that they grabbed an ex boyfriend who was abusive, -change his fucking personality, and gave him a damn better character development than the shows fucking characters. That's what irked me about the shows story board writer. They grabbed a bad dude, for the first time in this generation and make him change for the better. And honestly I loved that they did that to a damn male character -who was an ex abusive boyfriend who may have been abused as well. You would think they would do him justice? No, in one of the episode which is where he breaks up with the terrible star -she legit quickly (while there is a damn war going on) makes out with Marco (if I am correct) at a barn on how she loved him *after breaking up with a good boyfriend who changed for the better* plus what makes it worse is that they grab that same developed character, and change his personality for one fucking episode to make the pedophile pairing starco happen. Legit, goes off character, and tells Marco to have her -like, what the actual sickening fuck? You just destroyed the show there. Finally; You forgot to mention how *terrible* Marco is, just like fucking star. Their both close to the damn same. It's freaking creepy shit. Also you do have a point 100% on the show being bad. What hit the nail on the ice is how when Marco used up Jackie to "forgot" about star :") they use that poor child character again to make her into a lesbian when she wasn't even headed towards that way at all. Side Note: what makes it worse is how people are legit supporting starco and how beautiful the relationship is....yeah totally...nothing incredibly fucked up between them :") just fuck it.
I think you can have political messages in kids cartoons, but it needs to be either vague enough issues that it doesn't shape how they develop, or balanced enough that they can decide for themselves later on. A good example of this is Avatar: The Last Airbender. They had some politics, but it was always grey enough that you could be balanced. The Fire Nation was full of bad people, but not all fire benders were bad. Not everyone from the Earth Kingdom or Water Tribes were good either, there were plenty of assholes on both sides. It's ok to have LGBT characters, but they need to be organic to the story, and if you throw them in there just to be "Progressive" and make being gay either their only attribute, or so inconsequential that it feels forced (the latter is how Korrasami in Legend of Korra feels), then you're doing a disservice to the LGBT community. This isn't a kids cartoon, but Seth McFarlane has this problem in his shows. He presents himself as an LGBT ally, but he always portrays his gay characters as one dimensional gay stereotypes.
Like Mr. Enter his views are too nitpicky or very moronic, 1)What's wrong with putting relationship drama in cartoons NOTHING as long as it's not raunchy you can put it in the show 2) Daron Nefcey "is using the show as thereby by basing Tom on her ex boyfriends" No you idiot that is what every creator ever does they take inspiration from their lives or people you know. Dipper and Mabel are biased on Alex Hirsch and his twin sister when they were little and played pretend in the woods, Spongebob was inspired by the creators interest in Marine Biology his upbeat attitude is also based on his creator, Garfield's owner Jon is the creator doing a parody of himself.
- star being irresponsible is a character flaw, not a writing flaw; not to mention, very common for her age group - star gave her wand to eclipsa because it originally belonged to her family and felt that was morally correct - marco kissed star, not the other way around - pretty sure the patriarchy thing was a joke - tom was never exactly shown to be abusive; he just has anger issues and partly controlling - I don't see a problem with relationships being in the show? the show seems more so directed towards teenagers than children, which is the age where plenty of people begin to date... plus mature topics are in childrens shows a lot, spongebob for example has suicide jokes in it.. - how is having gay couples in the background propaganda...? I agree completely with the part on monsters though, I always thought it was confusing on how certain monster were discriminated against, while others are royalty. also toffee's death was rather underwelming. and the dimensional scissors thing kinda bothers me, because of the fact that marco spent over a decade trying to get them, but it's shown that very average monsters own them... this is pretty badly formatted orz, but I'm too lazy to make it look proper
I mean, Star acknowledges the fact that monsters aren't clearly defined and some royalty look like monsters, so that's not a writing flaw, rather it's kinda the point, on how this prejudice Mewmans have makes no sense. Also Star is not as bad as this video hinted, he just made a compilation of her joking or feeling bothered but she acts kindly and respectfully so many times that he could've made a longer compilation of "Star being sweet". We all have our ups and downs after all
Oh no, he's targeted a show I actually like. Am i mentally prepared.... Will this be one of those comments I look back on and cringe intensely at. Only time will tell
Just came up with an explanation to the monster thing, it took 5 seconds. The monsters all share a biological link, but most of their DNA is pretty much randomly mutated. This would explain why lizard monsters and (lets say for example) chicken monsters could be classified as the same species. Can't believe the girl who was writing this frick coudn't come up with anything amd just defaulted to the first fantasy trope she could find.
27:28 Later in the series, we find out that the first Mewmans are actually humans who found their way there through the magic kingdom. The only thing I truly disliked about the show was all the forced romance. Sure, have some love stories to spice things up, but don't make it so dramatic, there's already way too much going on to worry about feelings and to teach moral lessons.
