My favorite part was how the cop was intentionally vague, never answering questions, but then at the end when asked why she never warned him, she says "I was trying to!" 💀
Right? It's like this ex friend of mine who watched me get into an abusive relationship then tried to assuage her guilt by saying, "well, I told you I didn't think this was a good match"
Legit if they wanted a character that explains everything why not have the phone guy witch makes mike curious to find out what happened to him his brother and the children also could’ve made his brother taken in the pizzeria instead of the forst
The springlock failure really left me saying “wait… was that it?” It was so disappointing and anticlimactic it was literally just six metal bars stabbing him when the lore described it as this absolute mechanical implosion that would rip you to shreds.
You can tell Josh Hutcherson was grasping at straws and the dream sequences could have actually been really cool but it was literally him yelling at kids for answers and them running until the last one where they asked for Abby. I was also really disappointed that in all actuality. MIKE NEVER DID HIS JOB😂! He never looked at cameras so we never got a cool “Hey that guy wasn’t there before” moment because he was ALWAYS ASLEEP! Legit got to the point where it was like why are you tired? You sleep at work and at home. I feel like they could have made Vanessa’s character way more interesting if they had her take on the role of phone guy where she checks in on Mike every night. That way she could spoon feed him bits of info as he investigates the mysterious happenings of the pizzeria rather than he goin “His name is William Afton🫣” and then after learning that she’s betrayed him she mysteriously disappears. Mike doesn’t get his nightly phone call and Spring trap appears. Later we find out that earlier in the day Vanessa left a voice message. BAM WAY MORE INTERESTING AND YOU DONT HAVE TO KILL HER ON SCREEN SO THE KIDDOS CAN STILL ENJOYS AND FNAF FANS GET AN OH SHIT MOMENT! There are a ton of off screen kills in the original fnaf that they could have played with
Honestly if that was markaplier in the scene like how it was supposed to be I’d just never leave it, I’d just keep rewatching it over and over again cus the film keeps sinking from then on..
For anyone unfamiliar with the games and thus missing the context of the sarcasm here: the story and lore in the games & books are a complete mess that’s shoddily thrown together and timelines don’t really line up.
I mean, the man recon his own game three times, the lore was built on the fly to keep up with fan lore theory etc, the he writes books ( ghost writes) they're bad , get re released as novellas with only dialogue and images pulled from the books, then re re released as a combo of both. and only for Four books Scott got writers on this movie, and neither of them have ever worked before. welcome to Hollywood
I feel like most of the issues with this movies script really can be boiled down to "its pg 13 horror," they dont go into any details for any of the actual horror of it or any of the details of the killer, all details that would ground the movie and make you connect to the characters and the danger they are in.
@@Somerandomnobodyonyoutube right but that was a movie MADE to be pg13 horror, and meant to push a younger audience. You're absolutely right that I put this poorly, this could have worked as pg13, it's more that they were afraid to really push limits with this move and instead went the safer "family friendly" route. That's sorta been the general problem with fnaf as of late imo, more focus on the 'mascot' and less on the horror
@@Somerandomnobodyonyoutube I mean the original series was able to singlehandedly change the horror genre. Also saying that it didn't show the scary parts while defending pg 13 horror makes you sound like a hypocrite who just has a grudge against Mr fazbear
Willy's wonderland made me laugh harder than any comedy out there. The fact he doesn't say a word, it's just him cleaning and the kids and animatronics just happen to be there, the pinball scenes, the randomness of him downing energy drinks all the time, and holy shit the ending being free bird was the hardest I ever laughed, mostly because right before that scene I said "watch they're gunna play freebird or some shit" and then immediately starts with the opening chords. Definitely a get high and laugh at it movie not something to be taken seriously whatsoever.
The best line was "why the hell am I looking in the fridge" in the beginning, laughed my ass off and I'm currently sick so I had to stop to breathe to continue laughing
the worst part is that vanessa is not, in games' canon, william's daughter and mike actually is william's son. i don't know where they're trying to go with the movie's route instead
My 11 & 14 year old nephews said this was the best movie they'd ever seen. My sister said the theater has upgraded to heated seats and it was the best sleep she's had in a long time 😂
@@RyanTheSenpai Never said the movie was that good lmao, i was talking about why the kids in the guy’s comment likes it, so i was pointing out why they liked it that much. But i do see the flaws in the movie and would give it a 5.5/10 for people that knows nothing about fnaf, yet scott himself said he will take criticism from this movie to improve the sequels.
Apparently we're not allowed to have horror in our horror movies if they aren't R rated. Because I guess the last thing kids into horror enjoy is the horror part.
The actual problem is it's probably the most "only for the fans" movie I've ever seen. The story is like an alternate universe or a remake of the franchise from the start knowing the entire story from the beginning coming from a franchise that made things up each installment. It's something you would appreciate only if you were a fan with extensive knowledge of the series cause it makes changes for the better. It's a mystery that explains practically nothing because the supposed target audience knows it all already. But it also doesn't delve deep into any backstory, all new information from the movie is just "changed" information from the games. Plus having it geared more towards kids definitely hampered any horror elements or vague grim mystery that the movie could of had. I appreciate what it was trying to do but not only is it impossible to appease a fan base that likes actual horror and/or the animatronics portrayed in a "cutesy" way with their own personalities, but there's practically nothing for the general audience to actual like. I think something like the Mario movie played it safe and is more of a cash grab, but is also like, you know, an "actual movie," where as FNAF really swung for the fences with, "this is for the fans." I mean, if you don't give a shit about the story of FNAF sure go watch Weasels or Bananas for "killer animatronics." But Im sure their still some fan made created content for FNAF that is leagues better than all 3.
its for the fans that are only fans of the character models and basic setting. Ive been a fan for a while and enjoyed the story and lore. i mean of course I like the character models and setting, but I did not like this movie at all. I think the worst thing for me is that they didnt get the atmosphere right, aside from the janky story.
12:06 Fun fact in case no one saw Matpat's video on Film Theory: Markiplier was actually planned to be in the movie and was supposed to play the Security Guard that gets pulped at the beginning of the movie but I believe they weren't able to get him in due to schedule conflicts with what he was doing at the time
100%, would've been way better if the plot was more of a straight-forward horror/mystery movie. Josh having to stay in this creepy (sleazy) Chuck E.Cheese while the haunting animatronics wander around at night, occasionally stopping by to investigate the new night guard. Ramping up in creepiness and having Josh uncover clues the way that a player in fnaf 1 might; Finding newspaper clippings, strange stains in a room without a camera. Could even keep the whole bit with Afton disguised as a career counsellor and forcing Josh to work at the restaurant as a way to get him to die to the animatronics in yet another cover-up. But instead we got merchandising opportunities and exposition dumps from Vanessa.
they could've double-dipped and made it PG-13 for the scrubs, and then made a big hooplah about how "the directors cut was so much better!" to get fans to ask for it to be released, and then release the scary version, rated R, after the PG-13 one.
You saying something about a found footage style of Fnaf movie would be so cool, honestly. Going between the protagonist's camera and the security footage would have been an interesting idea.
In the theater, everyone applauded when Venessa said "His name is William Afton" because everyone in the theater knew who he was (including myself). I can only imagine the sheer confusion of the people in the theater who didn't know who William was. Honestly, the main villain and the actual HORROR of the HORROR FILM gets boiled down to exposition really killed the movie for me. I was a super fun watching experience!
I know the found footage genre is waaay oversaturated at this point, but this franchise actually has a substantive lore based reason to do so with security cameras being a core aspect, and the more I think about it the more I think that idea would work.
@@drakynochpeople in general have been more scary lately. I'm not phased by a man wearing a cutesy mask anymore, but a dude in a black sweater with a backpack staring at you from down the sidewalk is terrifying
I agree on your idea for the movie. Keep it in Freddie’s, make it 5 nights. If they want to do dream sequences they could do one after each night. They could have kept the phone guy for exposition as well.
I'm definitely going through my "rose tinted glasses" look on the movie still bc of the hype I had + my love/bias for the franchise, but I absolutely agree with everything you've said in this video. Really well done and put everything into words for me! I really wish they hadn't gone the safe route, but actually made it accurate to the games and not bring in pointless characters and their issues we don't care about. I'm happy we got a movie in general, just sad to see the complete product be so painfully dull and not scary at all- the puppets/ animatronics were definitely the highlight of the movie, they were perfect! Also the Living Tombstone's song at the end was so cool to see, but other than those two things- it was a let down, I enjoyed it but the hype will die down for me I'm sure.
I mean they could’ve utilized the office more and actually had him be in danger, defending himself. Though I do think the “It should’ve been rated R” crowd is dumb, it was always gonna be pg-13. And tbh the games aren’t gory really, so they are just stuck in the VHS series made by a p3do. Overall 7 out of ten since they could have done more, and the aunt plot line felt forced. Though to be fair there is a 3 movie deal so it’s not done yet.
I love how he tells a story just like I do with diverting tangents here and there but the tale always comes out eventually and it makes my brain happy.
The most frustrating part of the movie is that the basic premise of the games, a protagonist stuck in one location and while something sinister tries to break in, is perfect for a low budget horror movie. But the movie barely did anything with that premise!
The fandom is extremely lore obsessed, so the fact the movie had so many nods to the lore just made it good to watch. Cause outside of the jump scare me hanics in the games, there's not much else to them besides the lore.
I went baked out of my mind and laughed at how stupid it was. Best part was the elderly black couple that came in and made hilarious commentary 15 mins into the movie before turning and asking me "what movie is this" I told them it's FNAF and immediately they said "oh shit we're at the wrong movie"
It's also odd that after Vanessa's big exposition dump the film still tries to pull off the killer reveal as if it were new information/a surprise. Makes me wonder if the Vanessa bit was a reshoot because they weren't confident in having the audience decifer the story on their own (despite the more than obvious way William "lures" mike into the pizzeria).
@@menace4319 that's a big part of the problem imo, they were so concerned about shoving tons of lore down the audience's throat that they forgot to write a good story first.
If they just cut out all the uninteresting, boring "cute" moments and the nonsense fight with the animatronics near the start of the film and just had, you know. ENVIRONMENTAL EXPOSITION. Maybe have Hutchinson find a folder filled with newspaper cuttings detailing the missing person incidences, maybe he finds a videotape later with Willy Afton luring a kid in costume. Maybe he finds a secret kill room with bleached bloodstains or something. ANYTHING that wouldn't be a fucking character who's sole purpose is to inform the audience.
I don't know how you fumble something with so much potential, with the oversight from the literal game's writer and producer. Scott needs to STOP. @@barefootshortfilms
The games work because so much of them is environmental storytelling. It's newspaper clippings on the wall, or a picture subtly changing, or clicking on a specific part of the map to activate a mini game that you have to beat a specific way to get a specific cutscene. That's a lot harder to do in a movie, but you can still make it a more traditional mystery and have some clue gathering and analysis. Ain't that what most ghost stories are? Detective stories, but with this supernatural threat that will kill you if you don't solve the mystery?
Thank you Hunter and Nic. These videos are the most high effort reaction videos on all of RU-vid. This is the standard of what reaction content should be.
Oof. Seriously? That makes it even worse. He should've plagiarized some fan theories and made Mike Schmidt an alias of Michael Afton before creating this boring family that no one cares about to focus on.
If I were a betting man I'd wager that Hollywood executives bullied Scott into having more dream sequences and centering the plot around the dead kids.
Gonna be honest but I really really like the costumes/puppets.The sound design for all the moving parts, the height of the animatronics, it was a perfect translation from the games.
I swear, they carry the film, even if they botch the scary part of them. It feels like it was a deliberate choice for merchandising. Make sure the characters look good, so the kids know what characters to latch onto and buy figures/plushies/art of. They actually fucked up big time. These mascot characters are supposed to be kind of mildewy, and dirty. And stinking. Because, you know. THEY ARE WHERE THE BODIES WENT. They even kept that plot in the movie, but there's no sign that these lovable adorable characters are harbouring decaying children's skeletons.
@@ahealthkit2745 I'm okay if they're not scary tbh, it helps make them more unassuming but still have the creepy vibes to them. I agree they could've added more rot and mildew though
@ahealthkit2745 With Foxy it's kind of odd because it would be obvious to the characters if a child corpse was inside him. I figured Willy had disposed of them prior to that part with Vanessa. This is just me nitpicking, though. I don't expect them to put emphasis on a dead kid's corpse in a PG-13 movie.
it is really good I agree, my gripe is that william afton in the movie is a clean grown ass adult man when he should be rotting and bone and sinew should be all that's left of him. I think they dropped the ball there but otherwise it's for a PG13 audience so I get it. But yeah dirtier suits too, more grime woulda been sick.
@@ahealthkit2745eh the unnerving and scary part of the animatronics from game was what made me love fnaf. Since this movie has little to none of it. It just doesnt do anyhtimg for me. Feels like a fan film.
I’m not sure whose idea it was, but the yellow promotion bar at the top of the screen quickly loading out at the announcement of the Peacock cancellation was one of the best little editing jokes I’ve ever seen
I won’t lie, I adored the lawyer and hoped he would have had a bigger part in the movie or the franchise. I can easily picture him as a Fazbear lawyer, disarmingly simple that no one would believe what was happening.😂
I enjoyed the movie, but I did realize after a few days after the initial hype that I had, I was like, “Eh, that movie was ok, could have been better.” I think that the aunt wanting to take Abby away could have been taken thrown in the bin and it could still have almost the same story line. And the script was ok. I think Scott (creator of the games) is more of a game creator than a script writer.
I have to agree, and as evidence, he supposedly fully wrote and tossed out over 10K scripts for the movie and that’s why they only made it this year even though it’s been announced for years
I mean, his fucking books are nonsense kid's writing. so it makes perfect sense he'd settle on a script just as bad. The whole entire Abby plot shouldn't have been in the film. All of Vanessa's parts could've been taken out and replaced with environmental storytelling moments. The shit with dream theory was just a real bad reference to a theory from the games that everyone hated (rightfully, it literally undid the whole plot of the games that made them so interesting in the first place...) Scott needs to stop fucking with his creation George Lucas style.
I think if he was only writing for the fnaf hardcore fans it would be better maybe why the movie is the way it was because he wanted to leave out a lot of the lore to make it easier for people who don't know anything about the franchise to watch and kinda follow it maybe Movie 2 will ramp it up
Considering that there’s two more FNAF movies on the way, I really hope they lean further into the horror aspect now that our inner child has been healed. FNAF 2 and 3 have so much more to work with. The 2nd game has 15 animatronics, and the 3rd game literally takes place in a haunted house with William Afton being a walking corpse.
This movie molested my inner child. I liked the og story because of how erie and morbid it was, this movie is an insult and I felt my inner childs dying breaths watching it. It feels like the magicis gone when really it isnt, its just a shit movie and even shittier adaptation of a great ip
As a person who love fnaf growing up, I’d say the beginning was really strong, the middle was really boring, and the end was also really strong. I *really* strongly believe it should have been R rated, the spring locks were really cartoonishly dangerous to the point of thinking “how was this ever green lit by this company?” And Vanessa’s inclusion was so weird, I didn’t like how she conveniently knew everything, it made sense in the end but it didn’t make the middle of the movie any fun.
I feel like almost every con about the movie could’ve been avoided or fixed if it was rated R, but I get that the game’s target audience became 9-13 year olds so the movie couldn’t really stray too far from that (most likely in fear of not making any money). I just hope to god the sequel is at least rated M 😭 I was like 12 when the first game came out and now I’m 22 and I just desperately want to see fnaf’s lore actually fleshed out and showcased properly, because the backstory is genuinely horrifying
Yeah I’m so sad that fnaf wasn’t just a bunch of cheap jump scares since that’s what people are always praising about horror movies. Also the movie isn’t even horror dawg
@@peytongordon3971 The director literally said "I thought all of that was a perfect environment to bring to the big screen and adapt to a HORROR film". So was the director of the movie wrong or??
@peytongordon3971 have you ever played the games bud? Cheap jumpscares are the entire appeal. There were a couple jump scares but they weren't built up so it was just a random loud noise out of nowhere. Normally I'd want less cheap jumpscares but I would've preferred them in this movie. Not 30 minutes of boring dream sequences and a fort building montage.
I think if they wouldve went the route of the main character slowly uncovering things by searching freddys it wouldve been a decent movie. For example, Mike is doing a round and a door opens or something to a room & he finds his little brothers toy airplane and it has the kids initials on it. Maybe there are other kids toys there. Then let it unravel from there.
Funnily enough, that was in the canceled script. There was even a cut news report flashback scene that would've reflected on the whole tragedy. It pisses me off when shit that would flesh out more of the story gets cut and we're left with some more limp and confusing.
So weird take, but I feel this movie coulda benefited from the Silent Hill style in a way. Keep him moving, escalate the horror night by night, make the location's rooms unconventionally designed and have the power management aspect move beyond 'oh dont mind the doors they need a kick or reset to get them working again before its found out that the FNAF characters are the ones breaking things trying to get in to kill him.
@@guineapig0983its just silly because despite it being pg 13 they still decided to add people getting chopped in half and faces being ripped off so why not just make it r rated
I was thinking the same, I was hoping for a more eerie film with little words. The lore felt spoon-fed to the audience. I'd rather they show not tell and took it slow
as a fan of the series since the beginning, i enjoyed the attention to detail in the set and the performances of the actors. but i felt like there was a lot missing and it felt really rushed at the end. i hope they release an uncut version of the film, maybe there’s more lore and gore in the deleted scenes. i have to remind myself that i was a die hard fan at 12 years old so kids nowadays are gonna be around the same age or younger when they get into it, but it still sucks how the movie seemed to pander more towards a younger crowd for the sake of money and to avoid controversy
I mean if you think about. The game didn’t have much lore to start with if you ignore all the fan theories. Plus, the game is targeted towards children (not saying adults can’t like it). I don’t think the movie it’s pandering to the younger audience, I think it’s more towards old fans bc the newer/younger won’t know lore/story. The og fan’s doesn’t like the story, but the movie added tons of Easter eggs, cameos, and references. I highly doubt younger viewers or those who are new will know who they are.
I like the part when Balloon guy said "It's ballooning time" but proceeds to not balloon all over the place and instead only sits there doing absolutely nothing like a dumb idiot. Complete subversion of my expectations🙌
It's balloon boy, but yeah, lol, pretty much. Also, I hate the fact that I got scared when he first appeared in the locker or some shit I was so into the movie, when that happened my 13 year old brother laughed at me.
He genuinely made me second guess what Josh Hutchinsons' name actually was. I don't want to Google it, I'm just going to hope I'm right, and that I won't accidentally call him Hutcherson from this day forward.
The audience clapped like crazy at every big reveal in the theater I was in and it was probably the most fun movie experience I've ever had because of it. I didn't go in expecting a masterpiece, I just expected a basic adaptation of the games and it was basically that. 6.5-7/10 movie, 10/10 meme material reactions.
@@saicopk2110 Like I said, I expected a basic adaptation and it did that pretty well. It dragged on a bit on some places but it was fine overall for me.
Its probably because I was drinking during the movie, but I had a surprisingly good time. The female guard was really frustrating, but I was pleasantly surprised by how it was not dog doodoo compared to most videogame movies.
Well... It's supposed to be a horror movie based on a horror game and I didn't get scared or felt tense once so uh... Yea, as hunter said, it's basically a horror movie for 12 years old... aka trash.
@@waterzoip I'm a grown man, of course I'm not going to be afraid of a horror movie meant for young teens. What are you talking about? People who watched Markiplier and GAME THEORY are the target audience. What do you actually want out of a FNaF movie?
FNAF’s convoluted backstory I feel is what made this movie not good, they should’ve kept it simple with a security guard working the night shift at a semi abandoned party diner and have the big reveal be the bodies in the suits
this could also have been a movie told in different timelines bc the fnaf lore in the games really spans many years, and this could have been even like a murder mystery of some cops finding the dead guard and then figuring out what happened and how it correlated to the kids. Having the past and the future be two diferent timelines in the movie could have also been an interesting story telling device. Really there were many interesting routes they could have taken with this
It they had just stuck with the game's storyline it would have been great. Mike being a rotted corpse trying to find William while surviving murderous robots is great.
I mean, technically that would be the fifth movie in the series. The first two would involve either different protagonists or would feature a Mike that's disguised in order to investigate the place his dad worked ages ago. It's easy to poke fun at the lore of the games, but consider that the books are actually EVEN MORE absurd and nonsensical. @@YamiAi
@@ahealthkit2745 The first game has Mike as the protagonist. Sure, you could make the first movie go more into the backstory for before the events of the first game, but I think that's puttng the cart before the horse.
@@YamiAi A "Mike" is the protagonist, Mike Schmidt, not Michael Afton. You could make the story go in any direction that includes the context of fnaf 1 and still have a great story involving the security guard trying to unravel the mystery of why the animatronics are still active and dangerous.
I love how he at least gives hutcherson the credit he deserves, sure he’s not the greatest actor ever but the parts he plays he plays them well and makes them enjoyable, and I’m glad that he appreciates that
Probably one of the most random scenes was when vanessa, micheal, the sister, and the animatronics were building a little play fort, and then something goes wrong with mikes sisters and vanessa just randomly brings up shooting mike if he ever comes back with his sister
They could’ve used William aftons lore, just make a movie based on his bloodlust of children, where he puts his costume and lures children to their death and stuff them in the animatronics. Movie would’ve been way better and more sinister just like the lore
William afton is literally the franchise's biggest missed potential. There's so many great ways you could explore his character but in both the books and the film they make him just a vary lame stereotypical villain.
I imagine FNAF fans feel the same way I felt about the 2006 Silent Hill movie: As a fan, I'm grateful to have seen it depicted on screen, but it was mid, and even as a Silent Hill fan, I had to admit it to myself. I wasn't blindly defending it and telling fans to "be grateful for what you have". That's basically saying "Let Them Eat Cake".
I love the games. Honestly as a video game movie I liked Silent Hill and would watch it on repeat. Idk I just try to enjoy things and try not to get super disappointed. Now that last air bender movie....😂
I enjoy that at the end Papa meat completely unknowingly said the movie would have been good if it just followed the original plot. Which honestly, a horror movie of Michael Afton chasing his dad or trying to solve the mystery of his brother would have been all you would need for a first movie. The lore and everything you need is already prewritten, just take your time telling the story especially since the sequel was already confirmed.
I really wanna applaud the editor, this video is incredibly entertaining because of the style. I really loved the "having" part and the awkward zooming bit. It actually made me laugh. Not to crap on Papa Meat himself(love his content)but I don't think I'd find his videos as enjoyable if it weren't for the editor.
The first fnaf game came out when I and all my friends were in middle school, I was 13 at the time. We all went to see the movie it in theaters a few days ago and it was genuinely the most fun I've had in such a long time watching a movie. It's absolutely a movie meant for the fans of the series more than anything. Seeing characters we all loved and talked about ad nauseum for months, even years as kids come to life on the big screen?? It was not only surreal and exciting, but such an amazing nostalgia trip. I almost cried a few times during certain scenes, like when they were building the fort out of chairs and tables, or when Abby gave Bonnie that drawing of a heart. I was reminded of the love I had for these characters over such a long period of time. That all being said, I can still recognize that a lot was still left to be desired in terms of plot continuity and overall story. It doesn't help that a lot of the lore was changed to fit the script, but as a long time fnaf fan it also doesn't surprise me, what with fnaf lore at it's core being extremely hard to follow and often partially retconned with each new game. Despite its many flaws, I can't help but give in to bias and say that it's the best movie I've seen in a long time. Not because it's good or a technical masterpiece, but because I had fun watching it as a very long time fan. Also side note, I love that during the final...Fight? Between Afton in the springtrap suit and Mike, he pulls out a knife and does the Ghostface thing where he wipes it with the other hand, that was a cool nod to his character in Scream. We all got a kick out of that in the theater lol
I would have loved to see Mike when he first sleeps at the pizzeria he is in Nebraska, but like the 2nd or 3rd time he sleeps he ends up having a dream about the pizzeria and how the children died. Also it could have been a way to introduce William in the suit as the big bad of the movie.
this is the most cohesive review i've watched so far, despite Hunter not knowing as much of the lore as other creators, or at least not showing it, this review perfectly describes the shortcomings of the movie. It could have been actually scary and enthralling, but as a fan of the franchise I left the theater feeling disappointed, although I didn't hate it, if this movie had come out when I was a kid and hardcore fan, my reaction would definitely been different.
There is a supposed R rated cut and watching the movie you can really tell they watered it down. I was actually surprised at how character driven the movie was.
@@DD-zh4byexactly, this is a perfect (among many others in the past couple years...) example that not everything and anything should be a movie, a show, an animation or whatever. Just like it would be impossible to make a decent games out of many movies, many games should not become movies.
I kinda feel the opposite. I feel like it should have leaned into being scary, or being a cutesy ghost story about animatronics possessed by kids. The problem is that it didn't go far enough into the kid-friendly direction, or the horror direction. It didn't commit to anything, so it feels disappointing no matter how you think of it. Fans of the lore will be disappointed because it changes the story, fans of kid-friendly meme movies won't enjoy the lack of meme moments, and horror fans will find that it just isn't very scary or gory.
The brief second when he mentioned Peacock and the “sponsored ad timer bar” loads at the top until he makes it clear that he executed an immediate 180 was just 👨🍳👌🏻
The middle schoolers in the theatre went crazy tho. I felt ashamed to be in the audience as an adult. Watched the movie not expecting much and went yeah this felt like a children’s movie. Did look good. Josh hutcherson gave his all for what he was given. Also shoutout to the adult freak in a Freddy onesies that said he could write a better movie as we walked out.
I felt the same and there wasn't even a single kid in my theaters, just adults about my age and it felt like everyone was embarrassed to have paid for this movie, felt like I just paid 4 tickets to see a movie for 3 year olds
I've legit seen fan animations and fan stories written better than this absolute mess and it was so boring even my nephew wouldn't watch and it was supposedly his target audience
the set and animatronic designs really were the best thing about this movie, and that for sure has to be because those are obviously where all of the care and focus went
I went and seen it I never played any of the games. But to me it almost felt like they crammed to movies together basically I think the whole brother getting kidnapped and him driving back into his dream could have been its own movie separate from the scenes at the pizza place.
I laugh my ass off at your pop up dialogue. I know it’s gonna be gone the second I look at it so I quickly read it just to lose it on the last 4 words.
The euphoria I get from you totally nailing this review of the movie. I feel like I’m crazy because it seems like everyone adores this movie when it has so many flaws. I’m actually a big fan of the franchise, but I’m not blinded by fan service enough to not realize how low quality this movie is. Funny parts for me was when the cop just straight up threatens to shoot mike. Lol Or when the doctor lady tells mike “whatever you’ve been doing with Abbie is working” right after they saw ghost children and Vanessa get stabbed by a giant rabbit. Lol Thanks for your review of this movie. I needed closure. 😮💨
I felt the same way, completely underwhelmed but then everyone saying 'omg it was so good!' like did we watch the same movie bc where is the good one 🥲...was so bored/confused/didn't care I kept waiting for the scares and none came, like why did they never attack Mike that's the whole point of the game
Maybe because she is not actually a cop? What's exactly wrong with saying she was gonna shoot him. The doctor saying "whatever you're doing it's working" what's the problem? She didn't see Vanessa get stabbed and the rest of the stuff you said.
@@caitlinashley9139I hate it when people say "they are still children" but clearly Abby was their priority. If not killing Michael made it easier to get Abby then that takes priority. As soon as Micheal came without Abby that attacked and almost killed him.
omfg i genuinely laughed at those two scenes because of how stupid they were. i remember my friend was pointing out every little reference in the film and ofc he absolutely loved the movie, but i just kinda got annoyed with the soying he was doing once the film was over, i left the theater unsatisfied.
I can’t lie, this has to be the best review of the movie I’ve watched so far. It feels like actual constructive criticism, and it definitely helps that you’re actually funny. As a FNAF fan I thought the movie was fun on its own, but you definitely help me see how it could’ve been better, how it could’ve been a more overall balanced movie. I wish studios would get people like you to give constructive criticism like this before a movies script is finalized. Most fans like this movie and think it’s fun, (Not counting the fans that just wanted this movie to be straight gore horror,) so I don’t think you really understood how fans would take it? But you gave it fair shot, gave constructive criticism and I appreciate it, right on Papa. Right on.
My favourite part of the movie was the end when Matthew Lillard took off the mask and said "And I would've got away with it if it weren't for you meddling kids!!"
that part sent chills down my spine fr. but I was relieved when freddy fazbear went "maybe the bite of 87 was the friends we made along the way.. together, we are fnaf!" and they all jumped william afton then rode off into the sunset together
I think for the first half of the movie, if the animatronics moved like the crying Angels (I think that's what they're called) from Dr. Who, it would've introduced the missing element of horror the film lacked. Mike is watching the stage, the camera goes out for a second, cuts back to the stage and one of them is gone... then the camera cuts out, another one has moved. We don't see them physically move, but we know they're coming. Now it's hide and seak with 7ft tall killer robots. That's the general atmosphere everyone expected at least before the real plot kicks in. You know, something akin to, say, THE GAME! Instead we got the basic plot of 2019 Child's Play where the gang likes to build blanket forts and just so happens to kill people due to bad programming
my thoughts exactly, they missed subtlety in this film and went for the spoon feed your audience a shit load of information instead of slowly and eeirely revealing information for that wow factor
Hilariously enough, Scott Cawthon basically rejected the script that focused more on the actual story of the games and gave the green light to this one. At the get-go I was fine with the story being different but those differences didn't do the story any justice. I spent the entire time annoying my wife with sarcastic, "I *understand* that reference," lines because I ended up spending the run time looking for references more than being invested in the story (and there were a LOT of references). The storyline of the games would have been perfect because it could have been played off as a mystery that Mike was trying to solve without revealing anything, intentionally, that would reveal that he's actually the killer's son all along. It gives the perfect reason for him to come back, the perfect reason for the animatronics to try and kill him, and the perfect reason to focus entirely on the pizzeria instead of all of the outside stuff. Toss in a few scenes of people breaking in and dying during the day time, I guess? Maybe have someone break in at night and Mike has to keep them alive while investigating what's going on, as well, I guess? So much more they could've done with the actual story of the games being the focus instead of trying to go for some script that makes everything have a clear-cut motive or whatever they were trying to go for.
The amount little kids in the comment section riding the fnaf movie is crazy, all of them are just ignoring the issues and only focusing on "the game references", wrapping it all up and coping with the two lines "scott cawthon wasnt good with writing anyway" and "its pg 13 what do you expect"
I went and watched this in theatre with some work friends, one of em loves FNAF but we all agree’d that it honestly woulda been better if they showed more gore, more deaths actually on screen, and more proper jumpscares, we were making jokes and laughing at it all the way
A normal average viewer wouldn't really get the movie overall, plus this was for the fans. Figured that was obvious but just in case. There's plenty in this movie and gore was never a core aspect to the franchise. If you're looking for gore and hardcore horror you should probably go back and watch Jeepers creepers, Jason ,Freddy etc. Those are actual horror and gore based films. That's honestly the biggest misconception and truly shows who isn't aware of the franchise and who is.
As a fnaf fan since the first game dropped, i had a lot of fun and was super excited. As a movie fan that knows how basic story beats work, it's a mess 💀
I think that this is what Scott would have done with the first game if he had all the story bits in his head already. Obv execution would be way different but I reckon it'd follow the same beats
I just wish the movie made me feel the same way i did when i watched the first trailer for Fnaf in 2014, looking through cameras and seeing darkness almost engulf everything with screen static, the animatronics appearing out of nowhere standing completely still staring into your soul, the unsettling noises and sound design, especially the music. They missed it all.
I disagree with this. Scott loves the lore he built with his games and that’s what mattered to him. And as someone who loves the lore and Easter eggs of fnaf I genuinely think that’s what makes it so different from other random cheap horror games and I’m glad that’s what he decided to highlight instead of making a bunch of cheap jump scares with clunky animatronics
@@peytongordon3971 I disagree with you, i find it ridiculous to assume that lore con not be incorporated with the initial horror of the trailer/game. Let alone sacrifice the horror people fell in love with for the sole purpose of lore. The movie feels like an encyclopedia dump, especially to non-hardcore fans, rather than a movie with a focus on animatronic horror. Which gives people all the right to feel disappointed.
I watched Sean and Ethan’s podcast (Jacksepticeye and Crankgameplays) and the most egregious thing they point out in their review, which is very similar to Hunter’s here, is that Mike *NEVER DOES HIS JOB!* It makes no sense, he never checks cams, the power doesnt go out, the animatronics dont even come after him, nothing! It’s even crazier to watch knowing now there’s a deleted scene where Mike, while working the nightshift, uncovers news reports from the 80s about the murders at the Pizzeria, what was the purpose in removing that? It’s like Scott Cawthon wanted the most fanservicey film possible, without really understanding what made people fans of his franchise in the first place. That and Scott is simply not a good writer, and gimmicky video game easter egg storytelling doesn’t always translate well to a movie script
Mike never does his job because he's actively not trying to, he's only there so he doesn't lose custody of his sister and he's extremely focused on finding out who took Garrett. It's odd to me you complain about the movie being too fanservicey while also complaining that the movie doesn't play out exactly like the games
@@barbedblinga421 I said the movie *wanted* to be fanservice without really understanding what made people fans of the franchise. I never complained about it being too fanservicey, in fact I would’ve liked more references, lore hints and in-universe jokes, but I understand they have to make the film enjoyable for general audiences. It was an ok movie, solid 5/10, I didnt hate it or anything, but I fully believe I wouldve enjoyed this movie so much more if they had just spent more time building up the mystery of the Pizzeria, rather than an exposition dump in the last 20 minutes… and they could’ve done that by letting Mike actually do his job (i.e. the deleted scene)
I actually appreciated how it was almost baby’s first horror film. I took my 14 yo sisters that like the games (though they could never play them.) and they were scared most of the film.
Kinda shocked as my father who is infamous for calling a lot of films I watch boring or falls asleep to films I put actually was invested in the film. I was shocked that my father never fell asleep and was even shocked with the “plot twist”. I wasn’t even sure if it was real father.
This was definitely more made for the long time fans of the series. Probably even more so than the Mario movie. Mat Pat's cameo was awesome! I'm not exaggerating when I say my entire theater applauded after MatPat said "It's just a theory."
This is why studios never do anything orginal. Why make something new when they can get thousand man childs cumming in there pants just showing something they are a fan of, “golly gee i like that!!!! Yay!!!!!!!” I dont get how u guys share the clips of this on the internet and wear it as a badge of honor and dont see the cringe
Yeah...I agree. I don't like all aspects of the story, but the set design kept on impressing me. It was incredible seeing the OG place created in real life, as well as the animatronics. Honestly, I feel like Blumhouse could be partially to blame for some of the cheesy scares/kills. They have a reputation in the horror industry for that. At the end of the day, we always have the games, and a new one is just in development to be released soon~
