How awful is Finnick's speech though. We already knew Snow and the Capitol were beyond awful, but to hear Finnick admit he was sold for his body at 14 years old is somehow still an additional shock.
I think about the different victors all the time. I wonder if Annie’s PTSD is from the games or from knowing everything Finnick is shielding her from. It also makes more sense why Haymitch is so bitter and turns to alcohol. Maybe he was just as abused as a Victor. They really turn victors into toys.
@@TReacts.And keep in mind he was the youngest winner they ever had in the history of hunger games, meaning all 13-year-olds and 12-year-olds who were chosen at the reaping died
They were also planning to even pimp Katniss and Peeta if you think about it. In the party scene there was a very creepy dude touching Katniss that everyone seeing the movie thinks creepy. It is sick. Finnick built this charming arrogant persona to protect himself from it. He is a really nice, caring person, nothing like you see at the beginning. Totally horrible, decadent and corrupt.
@@carrie9716 No, I just reread the scene and Haymitch says that two weeks after his games, his mom, brother and girlfriend were dead, because of the stunt he pulled, so Snow had no one to blackmail him with to force him into prostitution.
"I just don't want them to change me. If I am going to die, I want to still be me." After reading/watching the whole series this line from Peeta before the first hunger games just hurts in my core. The boy who thinks of everyone but himself had one wish and the capital took that away from him in even a more brutal way than killing him in the games.
stoppp honestly that's so sad!! The one thing he wanted was still taken away!! Hopefully he gets through it and comes back to his natural state in the next one!! Thanks for watching :)
I love Effies inclusion in the movie! She was actually excluded from the Mockingjay book but showcasing how even the most manipulated and patriotic members of a society can be reasoned with and learn humanity is such a good take of the movies.
no wayyyy... that is crazy to think she's not part of the book.. she's one of the best characters!! Thanks for that insight, hope you like my reaction :)
33:34 I get so frustrated by Haymich in this scene, in the books you don't hear Peeta's warning nearly as much because the capital was already cutting him off. In the books all they hear is "And you.... thirteen....dead by morning" and everyone is confused until Haymich realizes it's a warning. The movies should have either made Peeta's warning more vague or cut out Haymich saying "That was a warning" 😭😭
The final scene of Mockingjay Part 1 of Peeta strapped in the bed going mental with Katniss looking through the glass utterly heartbroken at him with hoo-rah chanting in the background will haunt me for the rest of my days. 😭 💔 What the Capitol did to Peeta is one of the most awful effects of war I’ve ever read or watched. Truly destroyed me.
That was horrendous!!! im so nervous to see how they treat him, hopefully he gets better... horrible to see a brilliant character hurt so bad! Thanks for watching :)
A really intricate detail I always enjoy in the costuming for this movie is the clothing Peeta wears in the broadcasts. Take a look at the first broadcast again at 10:49 - the collar is amazing, it looks like a knife against his throat. The point actually presses against his throat when he speaks. Peeta was being imprisoned and forced onto the broadcasts by the Capitol, which means he was being styled and dressed by them. The outfits were in line with where he left off in the last film, so he is in all white first (at his most pure and symbolic), and in the second broadcast at 30:00 he is in all black with the white peeking through in the centre. Finally, in the third broadcast at 33:10, Peeta is in all grey - at his most beaten down. The collars and ties reference him being literally collared and in a chokehold by the Capitol.
5:38 Re: your whiplash about Plutarch, you should rewatch the second movie again! He only returned to be the Game Maker because he was planning this revolution. It's very interesting to see Plutarch laying the groundwork for the revolution plot, and the other good Tributes who are on Katniss' side who know about the plan. There's a hidden layer to everything that you suddenly see once you know the secret. Plus, you see all the ways Plutarch actually saves Katniss and her allies.
omgosh that's so trueee!! definitely need to do that!! on my first watch i noticed times he "saved" her, as in moments she almost died but he smoothly stopped it... like her almost drowning!! thanks so much for watching :)
@@TReacts. And even before the Games, Plutarch repeatedly saves Katniss from being executed by Snow. Notice that each time Snow says "She's causing problems, I need to kill her NOW" Plutarch always responds with a new plan that involves NOT killing her and buying more time - "make the people think she's one of us, destroy her public image" - "we don't need to kill all the Victors right now, let's just put them back into the Games in a few months" etc.
I have been WAITING for this reaction. i still think about what they did to Peeta almost weekly. i think it's a good reminder that at this point they are both 17 years old. Peeta went through EXTENSIVE torture at just 17 years old. and katniss is asked to be the face of a rebellion at 17 years old. the last movie gets me so emotional and this movie's lead up to that is just so excellent. I'm so excited for the next movie reaction.
RIGHT!! They have already been through SO much and it just keeps piling up... so horrible to watch!! But sooo excited for the nexttt thanks for being here :)
Amazing reaction as always. My heart weeps for Katniss, because so much happens and she has no time to mourn it. At least not in the movies because they have to go so fast. Girlboss Katniss is really just sad traumatized 17 year old baby
33:35 Haymitch is such a good listener, he found out that peeta was warning them, so they could act accordingly. He’s so smart, if it wasn’t for this brilliant observation I’m sure everyone would have died. Props to haymitch
Hahaha, that's funny. But to be fair, in the book the warning is not as clear. Peeta is fighting hard against the highjacking, he's not making full sentence like that. Here is how it goes in the book : At the mention of my name, Peeta's face contorts in effort. “Katniss…how do you think this will end? What will be left? No one is safe. Not in the Capitol. Not in the districts. And you…in Thirteen…” He inhales sharply, as if fighting for air; his eyes look insane. “Dead by morning!” Off camera, Snow orders, “End it!” Beetee throws the whole thing into chaos by flashing a still shot of me standing in front of the hospital at three-second intervals. But between the images, we are privy to the real-life action being played out on the set. Peeta's attempt to continue speaking. The camera knocked down to record the white tiled floor. The scuffle of boots. The impact of the blow that's inseparable from Peeta's cry of pain. And his blood as it splatters the tiles.
Some extra context for all the capital kisses in catching fire: in the book they tell you that the tributes think it’s hilarious how pure katniss is, which is why Joanna strips as well, she thinks it’s super funny how uncomfortable she is when everyone in the capital are obsessed with carnal pleasure. They’re just taking the piss basically haha
no wayyyy that's so funny!! She just spent so much time trying to get into Katniss' head and testing her boundaries which is so funny to see!! Joanna is a brilliant character!! hope we see more of her in the next one!!
@@TReacts. in the book her hair is short like a pixie cut, you’ll just have to watch the fourth one before I tell you anything else, it does a lot to form my opinions 🔥
From what I remember, Peeta and Joanna kind of protected Annie while they were all imprisoned? Someone who knows more might be able to elaborate on that but that's why Annie is relatively okay when she is rescued.
Finnick tells Katniss in the books that the reason she came back unharmed was because the capital realized that Finnick would never have told Annie anything about the rebellion due to her mental state so they couldn’t torture her for information and it was pointless to try to torture her to break her down mentally because she already was. Instead they took her because they knew it would torture Finnick to know that the girl he loved could be killed at any moment and there’s nothing he can do.
She still had to listen to Peeta and Johanna screams. When Johanna mentions it, Annie puts her hands over her ears and has a little mental breakdown, and Finnick stares at Johanna with anger.
Peeta: “I just don’t want them to change me, turn me something I’m not. I just don’t want to be another piece in their game. I just keep wishing I could think of a way to show them they don’t own me. If I’m gonna die, I want to still be me.”
The book Mockingjay starts up a few weeks after Catching Fire. I believe the movies were filmed about a year later, though most of the Mockingjay scenes were filmed together (for both part 1 and part 2). Philip Seymour Hoffman--who plays Plutarch, the former Gamemaker (who is a good guy, I swear! He orchestrated the rescue from the arena!) tragically died of a drug overdose during filming, so some of his end scenes are either CGIed or give to other characters. District 13's industry, they way 12 was coal mining, was nuclear power and weapons, hence them living in a bunker. Though the underground facility has been expanded for full-time living. In the books, life in 13 is quite strict. Effie gives us a little sense of this when she mentions there is no side action (a line that was Plutarch's in the book, I believe). Everyone over the age of 14 is considered a "soldier." There is very strict rationing of food and living spaces. It's pretty much the polar opposite of the wild individualism of the Capitol. Some of the more negative aspects of this are explored more in the book.
24:56 A lot of reactors get confused in this scene and think the plane Katniss hit crashes into the hospital, so just going to mention that isn't what happens. The scenes are cut in a confusing way, and the planes are heading away from the hospital when they get shot down. The hospital is in the complete opposite direction.
The Hunger Games are a constant portrayal of war. As spectators, we shouldn't encourage it. However, we shouldn't overly encourage rebellion either, even if justified. Because both extremes involve death and cruelty. The Hunger Games movies aim to raise awareness about the depth of war, power, and violence. It's not advisable to encourage or celebrate the triumph of either side because there are no winners in such a game. Always prioritize reflection over spectacle. Good reaction.
that's is the truth!!! there is no winner, winning the games makes u a killer and u would have to live with that every aspect is wrong! Thanks so muchhh, so happy you enjoyed :)
This movie is so underrated, because it is not "action packed". Very intelligent story, and too accurate in these times filled with wars. Peeta's path is heartbreaking, he loves Katniss more than anything. Can't wait for you to watch the last one. Bring some tissues! I definetely will.
Entirely out of left field, but I've had trouble sleeping, AND have suddenly lost interest in a lot of youtubers I watch. For some reason your videos just make me so very comfortable and relaxed. Perfect length and tone for my melatonin
If this is already making you so emotional, I would advise that you be in the best mental and emotional health before you watch the last movie. Everything comes clashing together and I had to take a week off before I could push myself to read the book about Snow
oh gosh.... HAHA brilliant. i'm so excited but very anxious! I don't want it to end either, but also scared how it will end... but yes i defo think i need to be in a good place haha thanks so much for watching, hope you enjoyed :)
I just watched the Ballad of The Songbird and The Snakes!! it is the prequel to the series and shows a lot on How the hunger games were created and how Snow became, well snow. Defiantly watch it after Mockingjay part 2!!
I have to say, in the actual climate... An army bombing defenceless people they've been mistreating for 75 years, targeting a hospital and presenting the victims as deserving their fate and being the ones in the wrong on the media... This movie always hit different but right now it's hitting particularly true and awful...
I've only just started the books, but I've heard that Effie was in the books less because there were more stylists. I'm sure they will be interesting to read about in the books, but I don't think the movies would have been able to fully flesh out more stylists, beyond Effie and Cinna. This way, we're more emotionally invested in Effie and she has a bigger part, which I read Suzanne Collins (the author) had wanted after seeing the magnificent job Elizabeth Banks did as Effie. Honestly, whilst I'll probably like book Effie, I'm already almost certain I'll prefer movie Effie's story and overall involvement. It would have been disappointing to cut her out of the last two films and have multiple new stylist characters to try to get attached to.
I love this reaction! It's really nice to see someone who gets as emotional about this series as I did the first time I read (and watched) it. This series is probably my favourite YA series, because the subject matter is so heavy and so important. And Jennifer Lawrence is the perfect Katniss. I'm really looking forward to finishing the (almost) trilogy with you!
awh thank you, that's great to hear!!! She is a phenomenal performer, such a great cast!! Thanks so much for watching, cannot wait to check out the last one!!!!
30:51 i always love seeing people’s opinion of gale change IMMEDIATELY in this scene. it’s so funny😆 but gale was spewing some major bs about my man peeta who was only trying to stay alive (and was confused/tortured)!
HAHAHAHAHA honestly tho... like what made him say that, is he silly... obviously he was trying to stay alive... being forced to say these things and kept in the dark... how's he suppose to know silly sillt
Peeta wasn't even trying to stay alive there. They threatened to destroy 12 and kill his family, which is even more aweful because it has already happened but he doesn't know about it. He's also trying to protect Johanna and Annie and other person that he knew. His prep team and his stylist (Cinna was only Katniss's stylist in the books, Peeta had Portia) have already been executed. Peeta had to watch a man he knew be dismenbered bit by bit. He probably doesn't know either if Katniss is alive. Now, to be fair, in the book, Gale doesn't call Peeta a coward. But Gale does get jealous of Finnick and thinks Finnick is trying to seduce Katniss, which is completely ridiculous because at this point, both Finnick and Katniss are having mental breadowns over mental breakdowns and have to be sedated a lot.
This movie hits even harder now. The scene in district eight is exactly what's happening in Gaza right now. More than 3 hospitals full of injured men, women and children were leveled. Rewatching that scene feels surreal now.
10,000 civilians in a movie is hard to watch but 20,000 in real life the UK and USA government choose to ignore all these war crimes Israel is commiting
Finally m8, been awaiting this so much lol. Checked your channel every other day to see if you uploaded this. Gonna enjoy it, thanks again to you for making quality reactions. 🔥 Edit: next one is like 10x sadder. My fav character dies but I won’t tell who cause spoilers. But without giving any spoilers I can say you will shed a tear every 10 mins. So many tragedies and so many ppl die who we love. That’s all I can say so get some tissues for the next one
@@TReacts. I understand haha, im still in school and I make edits. It was my exams had to leave for a whole month. Had to explain the same to my viewers. So I can relate 😂. Take your time for the next one no rush! But even if it’s early or late, ik it gonna be a banger 🔥
Bishhhh not me finding your videos last night, then going to uni this morning, sad that the Mockingjay reaction wasn’t up yet and then COMING OUT OF CLASS TO SEE IT AAAAHHH
Ngl I'd enjoy this part more if it had less Gale 😅 The biggest tragedy of what happened to Peeta is in the fact how much he didn't want the Capitol to change him before their 1st games. And that's exactly what they did, turned him into someone he's not.
@@TReacts. I’m still thinking about this hahaha it’s one of my favourite Snow lines, he’s so childish. I can just hear some Roman toddler at the coliseum like “I want him dead” … “but he won honey” 😂
I just found your channel and watched both Hunger Games and Catching Fire and now starting this one. I'm really loving the attention to things like the camera work, and visuals, and music, etc. Things outside the main events of the plot. And especially how you relate to the characters, your empathy, from the moment you read the intro to the first movie it mattered to you, it seemed. Of course good filmmaking and storytelling does that, but reactions, especially to good stories tend to show a bit about the reactor and I really like that. The tidbits and conversations happening in the comments with you are great, honestly. Feels more like we get to share something we love with you, too. Anyway, I hope you'll be able to/want to react to more movies or shows! Idk what you enjoy but just based on those videos and what you appreciated and pointed out I think you might really enjoy Orphan Black. It's really good, and Tatiana Maslany's acting is insane. Sherlock is another great one. I'll always fight for House MD even if no one listens 😂. Sense8 will blow your mind in acting, camera work (omg), plot, visuals, all of it. And the feels have never been stronger than with that one. Anyway, hope some of that's helpful. Good to meet you all the way from Neuquén! P.S.: another tidbit that I'm really sad was left out of the movies. In their first Hunger Games, Peeta's leg was gravely injured and got infected (which is why Katniss went to the Feast), and Katniss was hit by the shockwave of the mines exploding around that huge pile of supplies. She was stunned for a bit, her ears ringing badly and the sound off. In the books, after those Games Peeta is an amputee and Katniss is deaf in one ear (i think it was one). Both treated with the highly advanced technology of the capitol, of course. I really would have loved to see that in the movies, and a looot more in the books. There are literally no disabled heroes on tv out there. Imagine if Katniss Everdeen, every little girl's heroine for so long, was Deaf. Imagine if the boy all the straight girlies crushed on was an amputee. They are, of course, but not in the movies. I love the movies, love rewatching them and watching reactions. But that's always a tough pill to swallow for me. PS: sorry, I really am a long comment kinda person but this one stretched on more than usual. I'd normally separate it in different comments (in replies as not to take over the comment section) but I think people find it irritating.
ah stop ittttt thank you so much for sharing!!! love the details!!! Just posted my reaction to part two! jeeeez what a film!!! Hope to see you there, thanks again and thanks for watching :)
These movies hit all the harder when you remember this kind of indiscriminate killing is actually happening in Palestine. Really shows why Suzanne Collins (author of the Hunger Games) said she was inspired to write these books with the US as the inspiration for the Capitol and the districts as the victims of the US's war crimes. Another thing: Peeta and Katniss are only 17 by the time this series ends. They suffered all of this as CHILDREN.
Palestine are all the districts comming together to resist the occupation and the capital is Israel. Its happening in real life and very few people are speaking about it in 2023. Where is our humanity?
@@TReacts. ik its crazy people are saying that the movie has even more correlations, dont wanna spoil anything but after watching it, do search up on google the similarities its similar in soo many ways
@@TReacts. no problem! I mean who wouldn’t be patient for something like this. It’s similar to gta 6 where you wait patiently and once it comes out it’s worth the wait. Take your time!
@@TReacts. I don’t want to make you feel like you need to rush 😂. You understand movie reactions take a while to come out especially it needs a lot of editing cause of the whole copyright issue. Appreciate your hard work and quality content. Don’t feel like you need to do it fast take all the time that you need, I’ll wait!
in the first games peeta said that he didn’t want to be a piece in the capitols game and now he is ): he sacrificed the one thing he never wanted for katniss
having little moments like that brought up are so sad!! linking back to things they have said to where they are now really suck!! gosh what a tough series!! Thanks for watching with me, hope you enjoyed :)
An important movie as this is, there are some things they cut/changed in the movie that I do wish they hadn't - . The scene in the movie where Katniss realises that Snow's gonna kill Peeta is actually the complete opposite in the book & it's so much worse because knowing that no matter what he says/dose they'll keep him alive as long as possible just so they can keep on torturing him to mess with her . the fact that they replaced the torture of Katniss's prep team by District 13 (she found them starved, beaten & chained up in small room, covered in thier own excrement after they took & hid some extra bread) & how that drove a wedge between her & Gale (who couldn't wrap he's head around why she seemed to care about them so much considering what their job was) & replaced it with Effie being silly (as though I do of course love Elizabeth Banks it) just seems very out touch with what this story is supposed to be about . Before Annie was taken to District 13 Finick was shown to be much more visually unstable then he seems in this movie, to the point that he runs up to Katniss & Boggs, wanting to go on thier journey to District 12 only for them to have to point out that he was only in he's underwear which just makes him start laughing & pulling sexy poses before Katniss managed to distract him by telling him that Beetee had made him a new trident to train with & then later, when they're in the bunkers of D13 waiting for the attack to end, he starts teaching Katniss how to make patterns out of rope as a form of therapy (because he's from the fishing district) This is a small detail from way back in the first book but I only just remembered so here you go now - . Katniss realises that even after so much time has passed in the games none of the male tributes have any facial hair (though, unlike the girls, they do still have body hair) & she wonders what chemicals they doused their faces with to make that possible & after what we find out about Finnick (& by extention probably other victors as well) in this movie it puts the Capital's fixation on youth even more into question
So... In the books all happens in around 18 months (1 1/2 year), half a year jump between The Hunger Games and the beginning of Catching Fire, 6 months happen in Catching Fire, coming the 75th Games, then they lose 1 week from the rescue going to 13. That's the ending of Catching Fire, and there's a 1 month mini time skip between Catching Fire and Mockingjay. Mockingjay book is around 3 months in-world. Katniss starts being 16 and ends with 17. Movie making, they were 3 years, I think? Mockingjay was supposed to be 1 movie, but they decided for 2 parts, then in a recent interview for the Prequel movie the director admitted he regrets doing 2 parts.
awh thank you that's so sweet!! Ive been crazy busy and not had the chance to work on the edit!! So frustrating hopefully won't be much longer!! So so glad your enjoying them :)

@@TReacts. there were a couple characters left out. They wouldn’t of advanced the story. But I was hoping Katniss would run into them in district 13… their names were Bonnie and Twill… they were from 8…she met them in the last book … the whole district got together and planned to revolt. They did a “run through” the night Katniss and Peeta were in their district on the tour. Anyways. She met them in the woods by the cabin she and her dad used to go to. They were wearing Peacekeepers uniforms … They made them in 8. They got out to spread the word that 8 was revolting and even though they weren’t there Minh … ya grew to like them. They told Katniss they were headed to 13… she thought they were wasting their time because 13 didn’t exist but she hundred then anyways. Also… Plurtarch Heavensbee… Phillip Seymour Hoffman passed away while they were filming. #RIp….it’s so sad. Don’t worry. That’s not a spoiler. … but he had already done most of the filming.
