Love that you caught that Peeta painted Rue on the floor before the games. For some reason a lot of reactors think it was the gamemakers trying to get a rise out of Katniss??

And his feelings for Katniss isn't just some horny infatuations or schoolboy crush, he truly cares deeply about her. Even though she isn't "worthy" of his affection.

Finnick is honestly one of my favorite characters. He doesn't get a lot of scenes in the movie compared to how many he gets in the books but he's still one of my favourite characters in the movies as well. My number one is Effie, in the movies. She actually has a very very minor role in the books from what I can remember...but they really really brought her to life and added so much more to her character in the movies!! I love her SO much! She's absolutely hilarious. All of her little one-liners I'm pretty sure are improv in the movies or at the very least they're not a thing in the books.

What gets me is the fact that when you see Rue's family, *You don't see her dad.*

Peeta is still at his pedastal in the books because he doesn't know how to swim. But I'm not sure why he would be in the movie because he does seem to swim here. Finnick and Mags are probably the best allies Haymitch could have chosen for them because they are both from the fishing district

The most gut wrenching thing for me watching these films in this series is how for every trauma that Katniss, and to be fair Petrr as well overcome by mentally being able to surmount those traumas, and by bravery and strength of character...is that after every obstacle, every trauma is overcome there is another twist that is revealed by Snow, and the Capitol. You think that they aren't capable of a more vile, and disgustingly inhuman act, and yet they prove by every new twist just how inhuman, and vile that Snow, and the Capitol can be.

I like you even more now that you're just as in love with Finnick as the rest of us 😌

Gail is 2 years older than them so he maxed out the amount of entries you can put in there the previous year because her and pita are 16. He is 18 and this is the year following so he's 19 and katniss and pita are 17. Her sister was 12 in the first one, which is the earliest you're allowed to be in the running for the hunger games. She's 13 now

Also fun fact, Haymitch actually won the 50th Hunger Games by using the arena’s force field as a weapon. He tricked the girl he was against by letting her throw her axe off the cliff, and ducking when the axe came back, causing her to die by her own weapon

I don’t think it’s fair to say that Katniss and Gale are having an affair. Gale kissed her and Katniss let him because she was surprised, and she didn’t want to hurt his feelings. Also, she hasn’t been trying to trick Peeta. She’s been trying to survive. She needed that relationship to get sponsors and she needed that relationship to survive angering Snow with the berries. Also, even she isn’t sure how she really feels about either boy. All she can concentrate on is staying alive. The trauma and fear are very real. You can see in how Katniss and Peeta interact at the beginning of this movie that she hasn’t been leading him on, not really. There is a quarter quell every 25 years. These games all have some kind of twist. In the fire scene it was the black market called the “hob” that they burned down. I don’t think anyone actually lived there. Not that it makes it any better. It definitely was many people’s livelihoods. Also the way the people would get supplies they couldn’t get any other way. In the book, Katniss never saw the painting of Rue. They covered it with a mat, and he told her about it later. Peeta is still in the water because he doesn’t know how to swim. Luckily the belts are little flotation devices. They ignore this in the movie, but it was important in the book. In the book there was an open field behind the forcefield when it flashed off after Peeta hit it. NO wall. Stay at the top of the tree? Did you forget the fire last movie? In the book, it took her a long time to figure out what the spile was. They were all very thirsty by then. They don’t tell us in the movies, but Peeta lost his leg after the first games. That is why he had trouble running and needed help, he has a fake leg.

I think the way Katniss defeats Snow over and over is he cannot comprehend compassion. She always chooses to help others and sacrifice and it is never what they expect from her.

By the way, what happened with Gail was very very different in the books but the beating went basically the same. What happened to the books was he had that argument with katniss while they were out hunting. She splits off from him to go do her thing and then he goes to the head. Peacekeeper who has been a customer of his before buying his turkeys. Only the guy had been replaced. He didn't realize that. So he shows up with a turkey. He should not have at a peacekeeper's house and that new guy was there catching him red-handed so he immediately goes to the square. Hangs the turkey from the top of the post that Gail is tied to and then whips him basically into a poly ground beef once he's unconscious. Even the other peacekeepers are like sir it's over and he's like no it's not. I say when it's over and he then like knocks the other peacekeepers out one of them named Darius became what's called an avox in this world. I don't know if you've seen game of thrones, but you know those people who have their tongues cut out. It's that

in the book Gale got punished for a slightly less noble reason... he tried selling illegally hunted game to the new head peacekeeper not realising that the old, more permissive one had been replaced

A lot of rather ignorant people get all over Katniss for being supposedly "weak" when she finds out she has to go back, without recognizing that this is a teenager being told essentially that she has to go back to war after she thought she was safely out of combat, if you will. Sort of like the youths here in the US who enlist in the military because they have no other option, in order to feed themselves and have a job because there are none where they live, and that they end p trapped in the cycle of going home and then going back to war over and over again for years. So yes, of course another aspect of this that is supposed to echo real life and what it's like for a soldier who's trying to reassimilate into regular life...and then get sent back into war. Anybody would have a breakdown. I like the fact that in these books and movies they are trying to point out that a lot of the toxic ideas in our society, like that soldiers are not supposed to have emotions, is half the problem for PTSD, and that they need to have their feelings and deal with the horrible impossibilities of their lives. That they have a right to freak out and break down, because what they're being asked is impossible. Great social commentary.

Love your reactions to THG so far! One thing I think a lot of people don't mention is that The Hunger Games and Panem are based so strongly on the gladiatorial games and the Roman empire. In ancient Rome, slaves outnumbered citizens - in Panem, there are 12 Districts and one Capitol; the blood sports in the arena helped keep the privileged Roman citizens happy and distracted (pan et circenses - bread and circuses/games) - the Hunger Games does the same; the gladiators were all slaves, and if they won ENOUGH they could be granted privileges and earn fame and glory, but despite being famous, they remained SLAVES - perfect picture of the victors. They acheive fame, glory, they get to survive, but they are still slaves. Roman citizens could buy them for a night at will, gladiators had no rights, and their lives, and deaths, belonged to Rome. The Hunger Games not only did all this, but by sentencing children to the arena, they were sending a clear picture to the districts (paraphrasing from the books): "See the power we have? We can take your children from you, make them kill each other, and force you to watch - and there's NOTHING YOU CAN DO ABOUT IT."

Finnick's story is so sad to me. "He won his games at 14, youngest ever" is the books its explained/implied that Snow waited until he was of age to basically start p¡mping him off to Capitol residents. If he refused, then Snow would kill one of his loved ones. "I haven't dealt in anything as common as money in years" He started asking his "clients" to pay him in secrets that he could potentially use against people in the capitol to try to regain some power over himself. Snow tried to do the same thing to Haymitch, but he refused so Snow killed all of his family and loved ones, that's also why he's turned to drink

And, just to give some context: the at first Quarter Quell, Tributes were elected by popular vote. The second Quarter Quell had twice as many Tributes, and Haymitch was the winner that year

Oh by the way I mentioned to somebody else I just watched watch this for the first time that the hovercraft have picked up the dead tributes for a long time. It just wasn't made a point of in the previous ones. But yeah they did have to wait a while for katniss to get out of the way so they could pick up Bruce body. The reason they pick up the tributes is because in one of the early games I think before even amateur's time somebody resorted to cannibalism and that did not go over. Well people seeing one of the tributes be eaten

Yes Catching Fire!! I adore this series and I think it's one of the best book to movie adaptations ever made. I love them all but Catching Fire has always been my favorite book and favorite film of the franchise!

The first movie was well made, but from this movie on, they are phenomenal. They did such a good job keeping close to the book. So much of the dialogue is straight from the book. I just love these movies.

I just found our channel and im binge watching your reactions 😂 Spoiler form the books: I dont know if somebody mentioned it but in the books Peetas leg was so bad after the 1st games they had to cut it, thats why everybody treats him like he's "wounded" and thats why they fall in front of the camera, he's getting used to the prostetic😔Also Katniss is kinda deaf in one ear because of the explotion in the 1st games

The fact that Israel is treating the same way the people, specially children, of Palestine. They might as well put them in a "game" like this, but they seem to enjoy mass murdering them and torturing them in prisons w/o charges, kids as young as 5 yo.

I don't know if she's still 17 ir 18 during the Mockiingjay movies. I dunno if she stopped celebrating her birthday or what. It doesn't say.

Hey T- Reacts! Happy Thanksgiving!! I loved your review of this. I also love how much of an open mind ur keeping. Most people start out liking Gale until the games start and then they automatically want her with Peeta… I’ll explain why I really didn’t. But I’ll save it till the final movie or I’d have to drop a spoiler. 10:18. Me too … the games have been so romanticized that it looks like the thing to do…so.. where to start … grab ur popcorn and get comfortable…I’m such a talker lol. Sorry! So.. Haymitch…I’ll just touch on his games slightly. As u know this is the quarter quell. And the 2nd QQ, or, the 50th hunger games was the game Haymitch won… he was 16 that year… and since they do something doubly evil, for the Quell, his was the amount of tributes was doubled to 48… haymitch had a mom, a brother and a girlfriend… Anyways. When Haymitch and everyone else entered the arena it was said to be the most beautiful sight anyone had ever seen. Beautiful trees. Flowers. Birds. Butterflies. Beautiful blue streams..No one had seen a heavenly imagine like this before. Even when the cannon sounded, everyone stayed in place just looking at it.. But it was all deadly. Every bit of it. Haymitch snapped back after about 30 seconds while most were still in awe and was able to get a knife and a backpack and take off. He avoided the bloodbath in the beginning that took 18 off the top. Then came the elements. Tributes died from co aiming or coming in contact with the arenas mutations. Stinging butterflies, cute little carnivorous squirrels. Then there was a volcano that erupted killing another 12. Including 5 of the 10 careers…. Haymitch comes across 3 careers. He is fast and really good with that knife. He takes two down but the third disarms him and just as he is about to kill him, he was shot in the back by a poisonous dart… thanks to Masilee Donner.. District 12 female tribute. The one that first wore Katniss pen into the arena… Best friend to Katniss’s mom…so they teamed up and became allies. And they were great together. but Haymitch insisted on traveling to the edge of the arena .. he just knew there would be something useful. and when they get there it’s just a cliff and she wants to leave. He refuses. So she breaks the alliance saying she didn’t wanna kill him herself. They were both hurt by this break up. No one said goodbye they just parted ways. While Haymitch is walking along the cliff he knocked a tiny pebble off the edge with his shoe and to his surprise it came barreling back. He laughed and threw a rock and it too came back… and the he hears Masilee scream and takes off running. Only to find her being attacked by pink birds with long sharp beaks. .. and much like Rue, he couldn’t save her but she died in his arms. Now it was down to Haymitch and a female tribute from district 1. And they were killing each other. Being from 12…. The district where you can “starve in safety” and her from 1… she was bigger than him. He cut her eye out and she got him in the stomach with her axe. It was literally a matter of who died first. But he ran to the edge of the arena and she threw her axe at him. He ducked and waited and it finally came back and hit her in the head killing her… Haymitch, close to death, had won… by using the arenas force field. This did not please Snow. And it cost Haymitch everything and everyone. Within two weeks his whole family and girlfriend were dead…..Side note. When Katniss won she was 16 and Gale was 18. By the next year you see Gale working in the mines… and he had also aged out of the games by this time. She is 17 and he is 19… he couldn’t of been reaped but I, like you thought that is exactly what was gonna happen!! There’s so so much more… btw… Gale and Katniss has been trading at the HOB aka Black market for years. And it was at the black market one day while hanging out with their friends there and some of the peacekeepers that Gale realized he was in love with Katniss. And that was long before she was reaped. It is also worth noting that Katniss herself said that even if Peeta had died in the hunger games, she still wasn’t gonna marry anyone. Because she was scared to have kids because the rate of Victors kids being reaped was way too high to be a coincidence …speaking of peace keepers… the head peacekeeper is Cray… before that a**hat Romulus Thread is brought in to replace him. It is Thread whipping Gale at the post… but Katniss and Gale have made friends with a few peacekeepers. One being named Darius. He also hangs out with them and trades at the HOB… he is close to their age and he likes Katniss. So.. Gale and the whipping post.. what really happened was he killed a Turkey and took it to Head peacekeeper Cray because he regularly bought them.. but when he knocked on the door. It wasn’t Cray that answered it was Thread. And Gale was charged with stealing the Capitals property…if you notice while Gale is being beaten, there is also a peacekeeper on the ground. That’s young Darius. He tried to stop it and got his a** kicked.. side note. Cray is also a POS. Big time. You could always find a line of females outside his door trying to “earn” money for food. They traded… favors.. sorry this is so long!! Remember at last years games, one of the servants Katniss recognizes. She finally realize from where. She and Gale were hunting and all of the sudden a hovercraft comes and snatched a young couple? The boy was killed and the girl was made an Avox and assigned to Katniss and Katniss couldn’t get over the guilt of not trying to help her? They were trying to escape the Capital when they got caught… anyways when Peeta Haymitch and Katniss get to their suite before the second games they look up and they all three gasp at the same time. The red headed female was their “servant” again but there was another red head there. Another avox with his tongue cut out. It was Darius. Her friend and former peacekeeper .. Snow really was f*cking with her. Big time….also. While dancing with Plutarch… he tried to give her a hint. He opened his pocket watch and a quick hologram of the mockingjay appeared and he told her he had a meeting at Midnight. . .. she took it as a fashion trend and dismisses him as a POS…did you notice on the tour that NONE of the Victors were invited to celebrate and eat with them?…that was to keep them from talking and possibly making plans. When the cannon sounded Katniss doesn’t hesitate to jump in and swim… she’s from 12… where in the hell did she learn to swim? Not many could. Her dad fought her when she was small. Thank goodness for that. Oh. Before I forget. Peetas dad was in love with Katniss’s mom growing up but she chose Katniss’s dad and gave up her comfortable life in the merchant section of 12 and moved to the seam to start her life… sorry I’m throwing random things in… it’s all coming in the wrong order in my head lol. Finnick win his games at 14… as soon as he was gifted a trident it was all over.. that Trident was the most expensive gift ever received in the games….. also. District 8 was a mom to 3 kids that literally had to be pulled off of her when she left. One final thing I’ll talk about is, The Bread… they kept getting sent bread by the sponsors. (You Do a great Cesar Flickerman laugh 🤣)…. Every day they received rolls and Finnick was obsessed with counting them. He would see what district it was from and how many pieces were sent because… the district the bread signified the day they were gonna break them out. So bread from District 3 meant day 3. And the load number signifies the time. 24 pieces of the bread signifies the time. Midnight. So the exact time they were coming from them was 3 days. At midnight. Such coincides with Beetie insisting on them electrocuting the water at Midnight.
