the horsehead in the bed is a multifacetted message. first, it shows that the things he values, and protects the most, are not outside of reach. second, it shows that if we wanted to get to you, we were there. at your bed. while you slept. and third, it shows how far they are willing to go. all in all, a fairly well articulated message

Michael is established early on as a decorated (for bravery) and wounded marine corp veteran of the WW2 Pacific theater. That means places/battles like Guadalcanal, Tarawa, Iwo Jima. Make no mistake, he likely returned home with a higher enemy kill count than any hit man in the Corleone organization. Like the characters in the film many viewers fall for the college boy/legit wannabe mask that Michael Corleone projects.

I had the same experience with the Godfather as you MJ. This is a movie that would be on in my household growing up and I had only watched bits and pieces. It wasn’t until film class that I actually saw it. I personally prefer the 2nd out of the entire trilogy, and do not give much resistance when people say GF2 is the greatest film ever made. I know Pacino’s performance in it is the greatest on screen performance that I have ever seen.

Michael didn't want to be involved in the business, it just happened that way. They tried to kill his dad, he had to go to Sicily in hiding, and was there for a really long time because he got married and all. Then the dude came and told Michael the other families know about your location right before his wife got blown up. That's why the guard took off. When he came back to America, he spoke to Kate, and she asked how long he been back, and he said about a year. So there was a time jump there, and Michael had been learning the business, now that Sunny was gone.

For Marlon´s Brando character in this movie, Don Vito Corleone, Francis Ford Coppola put a jaw prosthesis in his mouth and a gauze, to give him that particular face. Brando was relatively young in this film, and Coppola pretended to age him and look more threatening.

You should check out the deleted scenes on here. One of the scenes depicts how Michael's wife Apollonia was killed. It showed how one of Michael's bodyguards Fabrizo was actually from New York and worked for Barzini which showed how fluent his English was. After the killing of Apollonia, Fabrizo fled back to New York. He was found and was killed from a bomb planted in his car, the same way Apollonia was killed.
@travisgames6608

Fabrizio isn't from New York. He's a shepherd from Sicily. I read the script, the book, and watched the movie with deleted scenes. Fabrizio was killed with a car bomb in part two in a deleted scene. In the book he was ginned down in the pizza parlor. He had a unique tattoo on his chest to his stomach that gave him away.

Apollonia would have been a much better Mafia wife, she's Sicilian, Catholic and would not have asked her husband about his business. The point of the 2nd and 3rd movie was that the Godfather life itself was not compatible with modern times .
@BadgerBJJ
@BadgerBJJ 5 месяцев назад
Kay was supposed to represent the American dream, at a time when southern Italian immigrants were considered less than “white.” All that ended when Michael killed Solatzo and McClusky. That’s why the Don was so sad when Tom told him that the hit was Michael. The dream (and ultimately the family) died.

In the book, that was Michael's point. He actually hates being Sicilian. He got upset with Kay when she had their sons baptized as Catholic over protestant, like her. Also, she converts to Catholic by the end of the book and goes to services with Mama Corleone to pray for the Corleone men.

I already know the reaction is going to be great, and I'm immediately subscribing......but had to laugh at the idea that "Al Pacino hasn't had many iconic roles".🤣 Serpico? Sonny in Dog Day Afternoon? Tony Montana in Scarface? Lefty in Donnie Brasco? Heat, Glengarry Glen Ross, Scent Of A Woman......Pacino was instantly iconic: people had posters of him. Watch Saturday Night Fever, John Travolta has a poster of Pacino as Serpico. He did Godfather, Serpico, Godfather Part 2 and Dog Day Afternoon between 1972 and 1975, all super, absolute top echelon iconic films (and roles) of the 70s/of all time. DEFINITELY watch "Dog Day Afternoon" and "Donnie Brasco". And "Serpico".

PS: I forgot that not only does John Travolta's Saturday Night Fever character have a Pacino-as-Serpico poster in his bedroom, but then he later does an imitation of Pacino in Dog Day Afternoon, in the scene when he's teasing his grandmother with "Attica! Attica!"

I get what you mean about attention spans. There's a lot in this film and it all matters; you have to pay attention to understand everything that's going on. I'd definitely recommend watching the second one; it's both a prequel and a sequel at the same time. It shows us how Vito began, and how Michael ends up. The third film isn't based on the book, which is one reason why some people don't like it as much as the first two. BTW the book is long but it's good, it has some material that was left out of the films. Luca Brazzi was played by man who wasn't a professional actor, who got so nervous that he fumbled his lines. The Director thought that fit the scene so he left it in the film. Also, "what they measuring out?" - that's Sonny's wife, and what she was measuring was Sonny. What makes Vito sympathetic is that he's more than just a criminal even though he definitely is one. He uses his power to help people with their problems, something which Michael doesn't do. Doing favors for people is how he got the power in the first place.

One of my favorite scenes is the scene with Don Vito and Michael in the garden where Don Vito tells Michael that he didn't want any of this for him, he had aspirations of Michael becoming a Senator or a Governor, and Michael says "just another pezzonovante"! The first time I heard it I wanted to know what it meant and looked up the word... Pezzonovante" is an Italian term that translates to "big shot" or "hotshot" in English. It is often used to describe someone who is powerful, influential, or important. But I believe that Michael was using it more in a sarcastic context than as an admiration!!!

The novel by Mario Puzo is the first 2 movies. Its also noted he wrote the adaptations for these movies, so he reworked his entire book. He also went and wrote the story for Richard Donner's Superman. He was a great writer, who could add weight and scope to what he was telling. The sequels are worth checking out, plus Superman 1978 Then Superman 2 Richard Donner cut. Part of Puzo's story was cut in the theatrical, more campy version.

Always turn on subtitles, even if no foreign languages are involved so you don't miss anything when you're talking to the audience.😊 BTW, $10,000 in 1945 equals about $167,000 today (so $1,000 then equals $16,700 now of course). The hospital looked abandoned because they cleared out the entire floor for Vito for security. Yes those were real mob hit crime scene pictures in that montage. "The Godfather" could be a lot longer. They actually edited out more than an hour out of the film. A lot of hardcore Godfather fans watch all the edited out scenes and the Director's cut version.

6:22 Cosa Nostra was a secret society. No one outside of New York knew about the organization until the book came out in 1970.

When Michael looks at his hands at the hospital he noticed during a nerve racking moment he was calm cool and collected. At that moment I think Michael realized he was made for this shit

It was all a set up. Barsini paid him to beat his wife because he knew Sonny would come running and they would be waiting for him at the toll booth. It was the only way they could get Sonny to come out in the open exposed like that.

The only flaw in the film is that wiff swing. 🤦🏻‍♂️. I guess they couldn’t edit it out.

Just a suggestion but the getaway with Steve McQueen from this era is very good as well

The reason they were pretty sure Paulie set up The Godfather by not showing up is because that’s how hits usually go down in the Mafia. Before moving on another family boss the attacking family will usually reach out to people within the other family to side with them. Especially someone close to the boss like his driver or a bodyguard or one of his captains. The mob doesn’t like to have to do things the hard way. They like to smooth it out. Probably told him all the other family’s are lined up against you so you’re not going to win anyway but if you go along with us we’ll make sure you’re set up as a captain or whatever after this is all over. Knowing all this it was just too convenient that Paulie just happens to get sick the day the hit goes down.

The Godfather series is the corruption of the American dream. The death of the Don’s dreams. Death of Michael’s dreams. The death of the Corleone family.

Koda(or are you spelling it with a C?)is a cute little hellion😂. Marlon Brando, the Godfather, also played Jor-El, Superman's father, in the classic Christopher Reeve films. Do you having a gaming channel too?

Funny you say this about the novel .. this imo is one of the rare cases the movie is actually better .. let me say though I absolutely love the book and pretty much read it again ever 3 years or so lol .. I’m a nerd what do ya want?? But the movie distilled the book so perfectly that it just makes it so perfect. The book has so many back stories and details which I love ! And it should be noted that part 2 of the movie takes place in the book .. but man they just captured the essence of the whole thing with the first 2 movies . Part 3 is a turd though in comparison lol
