It's crazy to other countries who don't necessarily have a diverse culture, like I'm Egyptian and this is so interesting to me. I feel like a baby trying to understand American culture and how you guys deal with race, here it's just us Egyptians (North Africans) and Central Africans who are a very small minority.
You can't pinpoint "white culture" cause it's diverse.Almost every single European country is a different form of "white culture". So, as a Greek person, whenever I hear "White People have no culture" I admit that it does trigger me just a bit, since we have had culture before America was ever thought to exist. But, oh well :)
I can see why confusion abounds. In America all whites pretty much get lumped together regardless of their ethnic background. In reality they aren’t talking about Russians for example. The comment is directed toward American whites who have been here since the countries inception along with the blacks they brought over here with them.
@@McStrokeAvision Uhm, most white Americans these days are descendents from European immigrants who came here after the Civil War. That war wiped out whole generations. America was in tatters.
Thing is... Whites are treated like side kicks/lackeys by blacks even when they're genuine. My advice is.....stick to your own. However, blacks shouldn't be in positions of management as they will only hire other blacks.
Not just race. Sex, age, LGBT, etc... An unreal amount of identity politics over here. However, 'wokevists' aren't only found here in the United States....
How do u act a race? I’ve never understood that concept like I’ve always been called the “whitest black person” but how ARE BLACK PEOPLE SUPPOSED TO ACT IN THE FIRST PLACE??!? Like since when did being educated or speaking a certain way equate to acting like you’re Caucasian?!?!! It isn’t right to judge how a race or person should act solely off of stereotypes.
Yup, dealt with that a lot growing up. Their is a scene from “Fresh Prince of Bel Air” where Carlton goes of on a fraternity recruiter that wouldn’t accept him for not being black enough. Changed how I thought about everything

When ole boy asked "what everyone thought about Black Panther" I literally said "what?" Do white people really think that all Black culture is is Black Panther...
Sometimes I think black peoples think that. People put that movie on such a pedestal & mentioned Wakanda so much that I’m like y’all do know theirs countries that exist that are actually African right?

He wanted me to say it sucked. And it did suck. I watched it twice, and Ragnarok 10 times. But I wouldn't tell him that.
What do you expect? Esp from p.c people. I remember seeing African americans wearing dashikis and traditional clothes to the cinema. You can't even speak one of the languages. That movie did not represent my culture one bit but yet again we, Africans, get grouped as one. There are 54 countries in that continent, all with different cultures and traditions. You had pro athletes doing the salute, wearing the masks etc. Gael Monfils still does the wakanda forever after every match. Even the actors are bored of it. Watch their interviews. Don't get me wrong. Was it cool to see a black character in the marvel cinema? Yeah that was sick. Was it influential? Maybe when I was a kid. But as a 28 year old male? It's just a movie.
I don't think people like this understand how offensive they are by trying to be super unoffensive, reduce an entire culture down to Black Panther and cops pulling you over
@Merel de Jong I'd disagree. In most cases, it's pretty easy to tell when someone is black or white, simply from the pitch of their voice and the way they pronounce words.
@star · light of course, there are those people who are exceptions. I've made a couple mistakes myself when hearing voices without seeing the person behind it, but as I mentioned, I'm talking about in a general sense. Even elizabeth in this video, as you already said, has a pretty white voice. But even then, the way she pronounces some words made the distinction clear.
Merel de Jong I feel like whatever this was came off sloppy. They took a subject like race, which is inherently heavy. Then they put it into a gameshow format to win money, which is quite the opposite. If the goal was to learn something there was no interview after to show they did or didn’t. And if it was to be entertaining it only was due to the ridiculously stale stereotypical answers given. BP, music and getting pulled over sounds like bad sitcom antidotes from the early ‘90’s when it’s time to pull out the “black” episode. These people clearly have no real friends of color or any real conversations about cultural differences.
I'm a white Brazilian living in Texas. People just cannot comprehend that we do have white people in Brazil, I have been called a liar for saying I was white many times.
@Andrew Reality? I think you mean society? Even so, these stereotypes have negative connotations that reflect on a certain group of people, making others quickly assume that person acts a certain. Don't be ignorant about the downsides and effects of stereotypes.
They Live that wasn’t at all what she said though 😂😂 The question was what her strategy to win was, and it was too be as friendly as possible. Which is a very common strategy in odd man out
EccentricSage No one said that it doesn’t exist. But people are assuming far too much here. She didn’t say what you are implying she said, period. You just assume that’s what she meant based on your own prejudices.
You know what is weird in the English language world? People commonly speak in different accents according to ethnicity even though the family has been in the country for hundreds of years. Nobody speaks about such a thing here in Brazil, cause accents are pretty much regional and only that. How come two families have lived in the same neighborhood for the last 100 years and have different accents? Come on!!! That's so weird! People are people and vice versa.
I guess because most people from any ethnicity, in the US and elsewhere, are aware of racial profiling, privilege and police violence that’s been going on forever (in the US especially). So that’s actually not a racist question in a way, since it acknowledges prejudice, inequalities and racism that’s systemic in that particular situation. Like you can’t really get a person’s ethnicity from their name, level of education, culture, because that depends on individuals inside any identity group. But you can confidently say a person must have been discriminated because of their skin color (because racism exist everywhere unfortunately and ethnic minorities in any country are way way way more often susceptible of being a victim of prejudice and discrimination). Acknowledging the fact it happens does not mean you agree with it. I’d more often consider it criticism of racism/prejudice instead. Since a racist person would be more inclined to deny it even happens. But I guess perception and feelings are different, and it’s good to know some people find that cringe, although I doubt it was coming from a bad place in that instance, thanks for sharing your view so we all learn! I personally found the Black Panther stuff way more cringe to be honest. Like, I’m white, how is watching or liking a movie with black actors, or listening to a black musician a black thing? Art is culture, it goes way further than ethnicity. But hey, to be fair, it was a tough game to play without sayin’ stupid or controversial shit that people could interpret badly. So let’s not be too hard on them. Not sure it’s that easy to guess a person’s skin colour just by listening to them.

@Ryan Johnson True that, but Russia and China aren't really great examples for democratic societies. I guess the debate is about western countries, since the entire paradigm, debate, and approach has to be changed if we talk about Russia, China, the Golf, or third world countries. But I also should have explained myself better ("that have", not "that's been going on forever", I meant the "racial profiling + the police brutality" have been going on forever. The US being one of the most diverse country on earth, culturally and ethnically (France isn't too bad either, I'm French), the racial profiling + the police violence will statistically be higher in countries where there actually is a strong ethnic diversity. Unfortunately, the police brutality is almost everywhere, that's for sure! PS: And yeah, you're right, people in the US are privileged. A lot of them complain about things that don't matter.

This one is kinda complicated as well. What is being preached a lot to the children is that you cant relate to someone or something if you arent the same skin color. It is lowley racist but im pretty sure that wasnt the intention
That's just a children's mentality. I had the opposite happening just recently with one of my nieces. She's white and platinum blonde and she wanted to be Moana. Her friend who's black told her that she doesn't look like Moana and should instead be Elsa from Frozen or Rapunzel. They're all like 7 years old and have no concept of racism. So they just thought that it's better if people looked more similar to the characters they wanted to be. Happened to me too when I was a kid in the 90s. My favorite princess was always Jasmine but I'm also blonde and blue eyed and I was told I couldn't be Jasmine by my friends. Broke my heart lol. But there was nothing behind it. Children's reasoning is just too simple to understand such complexities.
