Duncan: "Imagine this. You're sitting at home on a Sunday afternoon and out of nowhere a team of black ops military raid the house. These lights are going to fall out and a small child could step on the glass. I'm out."
He tried to buy a baby of a family devastated by floods. And he offered them 750 pounds. Despite being a multi-millionaire. Super class act....if you like that kind of thing.
@@yommmrr adoption is free so he didn't have to offer to pay for a baby. he could have gone to an orphanage for free. how much do you think he should have offered?
When you are a multi millionaire and you try to buy a child from a vulnerable family. Not sure exactly what happened but a family member of his couldn't have a child so he travelled to Pakistan to buy one from a poor family. Guy lost all credibility after that action 🤣
What I don't understand is why they didn't target carehomes, independent living facilities, rehab centres, or just people who generally have dexterity problems rather than everyone?
I think this is a great idea but it’s missing something… a flow signal. A flow signal will make changing the light bulb safer by alerting you to the direction you should insert and remove the bulb.
It's a shame that Harry Potter fell so low selling magnet lamps along with one Weasley Cousin. In his prime, he could have easily made this lamp a horcrux and sell it like that
This has a lot of applications, but I have to side with Duncan. If the thing barely stays attached when presented with shaking or movement, it's going to fall out - and often.
@@randomhumanoidblob4506 Point is it's an open electrical circuit. Flagrant breach of electrical and fire safety regulations. Dude should've gotten his product tested and certified first.
@Fred Puntdroad Oh absolutely, Fred. But it's a very clever idea - I'm barely five foot tall and can't stand on ladders and put my head back, so this is a genius idea. I had to change the bulb at the top of the stairs the other day and it was really dangerous, so something like this would be great - I can't ask someone to come round and change bulbs, that's just too pathetic! He made a horrible decision financially and his product most definitely needs work but earlier DDs were more about new ideas and helping develop them. The later ones only seemed interested in already extant, up-and-running businesses. Anyway, he crowd-funded and is now selling them, so I'm going to get one and see. And he uses neodymium magnets now ;-)
@@randomhumanoidblob4506 I myself have only two feet and I make do, so while I find you extraordinary with having five feet, I think I still prefer if you used a ladder to instal lights in a way that didn't come with an additional fire risk.
The fixture also lowers the bulb by a sizeable margin. Lamp shades are made to accommodate bulbs without any addition, once you add this device the bulbs will protrude below the shades.
"Why do you want an investment of more than a £150,000" "Oh we don't need any money but we thought you were idiots who'd pay us and supply vital business contacts and expertise.
I feel sorry for these kinds of people. It’s a cool idea but unless a company like Philips is interested in it, it’s never gonna work. Light bulbs are disposable and standardised. Creating a new standard that you can find in every grocery store in the world isn’t easy.
They actually aren't really all that standardised. Not only do you have Edison and bayonet bulbs, but within those you have different sizes. Bulbs can actually be a bit annoying
There not selling light bulbs, it's a fitting that goes between the light fitting and the bulb. So the idea is sound, unfortunately their business projection was poor and their business model unreasonable.
so the Angel investors pick up 40% of the Company BUT the money invested is a loan? I think the Dragons had a reason to get a bit scrappy with this guy
wait but this checks out! why would you go to look for an investment with people who are renown to want a lot, when you've already given a large chunk to previous investors? these guys aren't interested in that, thus they've wasted everybody's time by already giving %! so yea it's a problem :D
Really? Genius? It's convenient more so than others but not to the degree you're thinking of. You're also not considering how much assurance a consumer is willing to place on a light bulb that's secured solely through a magnetic connection
I don't think it's fair for a Dragon to take advantage of these lads by making them do another loan type system. The damage is already done and it'd make it worse for them to keep going like that. That said, I think the idea was good and I'm glad James wasn't nasty to them and gave Theo a firm but fair retort.
Electric currents weaken magnetic fields. If you run the electricity through those magnets, they will weaken and eventually fall out of their fixtures.
I did night patrol at a hotel and part of it was recording burnt out lightbulbs, and it is fairly regular with those many lights. Sometimes I'd need to make a note a few times in a week. Maybe it could reduce the hazard of working on the ladder, being to pop in a new one. But led lights dont need to be replaced really.
Duncan must not know about these amazing new products that keep doors from slamming shut. They're called Doorstops! The beautiful thing is a piece of folded paper and a couple rubber bands make a perfectly serviceable Doorstop.
There is a simple way to stop the bulbs from falling out and that's to teach your children not to slam doors. Don't pictures fall of his walls when doors slam.
He didn't actually 'change' the light bulb - he put a new one to an empty socket. I was wondering how much force would be needed to remove the old bulb..........
Bro we use "changing a lightbulb" to make fun of how dumb someone is when they cant do it, yet this man sits here and says its an "unsafe" and "awkward" task. This joke writes itself.
@@the90sfattyfromtakethat Old people and disabled people still have to change them if they blow. The gadget would help them to do that by themselves. Not all old people and disabled people have or want people to do things for them, and a small issue like changing a light bulb can be important to them and this gadget would enable them to do that by themselves safely. I think it’s a good idea.
I love this idea. nothing feels more unsafe for people with poor balance than standing on a ladder, leaning up at an angle with little or nothing to hold onto, and trying to aim for that socket dead on and twist....... then twist, hoping it does not angle off so you have to untwist and start again tittering on that ladder even more, then twist and twist.... Its an absolute eternity knowing a fall can break a bone, incapacitate. Great idea, but that loan/ 'investment' of 40% from the 'angel' is impossible to overcome.
No. The door slamming shut causes fixtures to shake - the shaking causes the light to fall off... I'd imagine accidently hitting it while carrying something would make it fall off too.
Did you even understand what he meant? He was talking of the gust of wind due to pressure change that happens when you close a door & the door on opposite end bangs.
