No, Man, dont retract about that, it's an actual fact that Ian has really strong political biases. His political views has destroyed some Sonic character's characterizations even before frontiers.

The problema with mr flynn's writting Is that he basically wrote the characters in His own weird way but then when people actually notice it he gaslight the fandom into believing that it was always like that. His political bias it's shown not only in the numerous shipping bait but also in how he writes ceirtain dialoges, like that one un frontiers where he talks about Sage. Not to mention how he was blatantly attacking the people who suport gamergate (which some of them were the people that support his rise into the comics as headwritter.

It would be really Easy to use frontiers as an example but okay, i'll try my best. -one thing Ian flyn does when he writes female characters Is that he's really condescending when speaking of them, just like the people who describe themselves as feminist allies. An example for that Is the first arc of the comics (if I remember correctly it was the second or third issue) when neo metal Sonic disguised as Eggman starts to speak about how much Amy has grown and how strong and competent she is. -another thing he does Is LGBT shipbait and tokenism(even in Archie). The thing in Archie was the supposed Sally x Nicolle ship that never happend but Ian flyn when asked respond that he and the co-writter "get away with it so blatantly". Examples for the IDW comics are two. The first is s background homosexual couple Made by the radio guys, the other one is the weird tangle x whisper ship being teased constantly, but less subtle in the last issue of the eggperial city arc where the two of them were holding hands literally in front of the lesbian flag (that's an actual panel of the comic). -finally there's a polemic outside the comic but really linked to the comics itself (it's cheating, sorry for that). If I'm not wrong acording to lance jerkov Ian flynn's access to the sonic comics was heavely promoted by "diversity in comics" (I can't assure if it's an asociation or some kind of iniciative, but maybe the latter). And that fits a lot with the thing I said to you early about he insulting and actually mocking the people that support comicsgate even if some of them were His own fans. Sorry if it was hard to come up with examples, but it's because the fundamental issues of IDW are narrative and not political, but even so there are more examples of political biases in frontiers (again, apart from the narrative ones).

I mean my point was that sega was already focusing less on her obsession aspect in recent games. Ian flynn didn't need to try and "fix" that by trying to rid of it completely. Idk what Pariah's argument is but I made it clear the characters can develop but they still need to maintain core traits thats will be recognisable across generations. I said Ian Flynn was put in charge to fix the franchise because he was appointed a "lore master" role recently and is writing the games. I didn't mean he was literally the head of Sonic Team. Leftist ideas become worrying when they don't match Sonic's world. The same goes for right leaning ideas. Being an Atheist in Sonic's world is stupid because gods are objectively real and they've made appearances in the modern world. And even if you can say only Sonic and friends have witnessed those gods. Then why would Amy be questioning the ancient's religion if she herself knows Gods exist. If Ian Flynn starts treating religion in Sonic games as if it was religion in our world then that's just bad writing.

No you're correct. Thats why no one was mad when frontiers came out. It was during his bumblekast video where he said he wanted to give some form of closure to Sonic and Amy's game of cat and mouse that pissed people off.

@@P0tatoz9 I think Sonic Team have been doing good work with her. They've taken issues that people had with 2000s Amy and expanded on her and Sonic's dynamic into something great. Before I definitely felt more like how Ian Flynn felt, I did think Amy's characterisation was antagonistic. But the current Amy is far from that which is why its frustrating to hear that Ian wants to fix it when Sonic Team has already done that.

There's story, there's plot, and then there's characters The latter two happen to fall under the same umbrella, but they mean different things. You can have to greatest plot of all time for any video game franchise, but you can nuke/assassinate the characters people know and invest interest in if you know little about how they work. Just as you can write an incredibly dense and stupid plot, but keep the cast faithfully in-character and respond organically as they normally would. Heck, have the cast _fully aware_ of how stupid the plot is (even without breaking the fourth wall). It's actually one of the few things that can salvage a bad plot. Take some of the filler-ish episodes of The Real Ghostbusters (during the original broadcast and syndicated run) for example, before Q5 stepped in and had them act unironically to all the denser plotlines they would get involved in.

The writers especially on the IDW comics (Evan Stanley, Ian Flynn ect) understand the character more than the 2010's writers ever did and are returning the Sonic cast to their roots or evolving them into someone new. Like for example, Amy isn't chasing Sonic anymore and is focused more on helping those in need whilst Tails was written as a coward in the 2010s but is returning to his roots in SA2. The new writers are doing an excellent job in characterization but one thing that has been consistent with English Sonic is his extroverted nature. Sonic walks into a party of strangers and leaves with atleast 10 friends. Sonic across all writers has always been outgoing and extroverted. Japanese Sonic has a different set of writers who interpret Sonic differently so they have their own version of Sonic. We have our own and that is the extroverted Sonic we have and have always had since the 90s.

She was insufferable in regards to that trait in Heroes, that was her at her worst IMO. The "team" theme song wasn't even about the team, it was about her. Even Big & Cream's plights were more like side quests to her, it felt like they didn't matter as much

In regards to your edit, the mandate is that Amy must be in love with Sonic but they cannot get together. There's no further elaboration on why which might be why Ian feels like there's a possibility. But as I explained in the video, because Sonic is a timeless mascot character, I feel like that mandate will stay in place forever.

Tikal is a spirit and you do make a fair point about her not being more involved with Knuckles's story in SA1 but I can see it due to time constraints/what they thought would be cooler/better. And quick side tangent; I very much dislike how Knuckles simply CANNOT have anyone else of his race be seen or mentioned in some way because Sega does not want another Penders incident, but GOODNESS he should NOT be alone on that floating island all day everyday. Ignoring the creator of the video, as my own reasons do not correlate to his thoughts whatsoever, I consider Modern Amy's character trope to be more outdated and sexist than her older one because of what it reduces Amy too. She basically has ZERO-character flaws and personality nowdays. I hate how passive Modern Amy is, because her only character now is she's a boring mother hen character with no flaws whatsoever, the generic passive female voice of reason who's only defined by kindness and zero negative qualities. In fact, this kind of character was basically every generic female character in a sitcom. Which is not only MORE out of date than the obsessive fan with a crush but is what solely defined females back in like 70s, 80s or even early 90s, critics criticized female characters for these because it just reduced them into passive females who are either there just to be the girl of the protagonist's friend group or to be just the girl who's nice. This is sexist because it basically forms the female character's only identifiable feature as ONE thing, while its saying that having any sort of negativity outside of her passive and kind bubble is a bad thing, especially since people see this as progressive that Amy doesn't have flaws like her temper, which kind of does feel sexist to remove that because its saying a female character can't have a temper and be a nice person at the same time, in reality no one person is not just all kind all the time, they have to have some form of pushback or rockiness in their character. Amy's just that, she's the overly kind female who's only trait is she's a passive mother hen with zero pushback to her person. Hell in Sonic Dream Team she is literally just female Sonic (and I don't just mean gameplay wise) but her character feels just like Sonic, but girl. Which is further notified by how less her Piko Piko Hammer is used (even in Dream Team) and in Frontiers is replaced with Tarot Cards a more passive form of attacking that just reskinned moves utilized by her Hammer, because her most aggressive form of attack is sidelined by comparison.

I'm watching delicious in dungeon right now and in that world both magic and science exist, its just that different characters have different approaches to it. I clicked on the video because I too believe they don't know what to do with Amy writing wise and I don't believe she moving on from her crush on Sonic is the solution per se, but you went a rabbit hole I didn't quite get. Personally I don't like Amy being all about girlboss, tarot cards and sharing her love to the world, I do believe she and Sonic should never end up together, and that's exactly what's makes her interesting. If he went to far with the characters Sega would stop him and if they didn't that's because that is what they want. Ergo, it's not Ians fault for being a writer who writes, it's Sega's for not keeping their sh!t consistantant and on lock. Sega is the reason why Amy went from, girl next door(classic), to overbearing stalker(modern) to girlboss(boom), not Flynn. If anything, Idw Amy is the most balanced incarnation we've gotten. Which means of course it was going to piss off anyone who liked a specific interpretation. They're not gonna let Ken Penders 2.0 happen because the trauma of that event can still be felt like aftershocks. Anything "subtle" Ian slips in will be undone next game/issue/etc if not to Sega's liking. If Ian Flynn ever manages to change Amy in the way he likes, which even I don't agree with, then Sega knowingly allowed it. And if they knowingly allowed it, then that means they were probably going to do it themselves anyway.

You can't start a family if you're forever branded as 15 and 12 respectively, and no amount of age erasing is going to change that. It's coded into the character designs, AND the _consistent_ portions of their characterizations. Just look at Cream's mother: Vanilla. If Amy is seriously a "grown adult", then what the hell is _she_ . Never mind that Cream and Charmy are still children, who Tails is two years older than. Just don't flanderize them to be worse than what they actually are. After SA2, Amy became an entitled hammering bitch, and now a wannabe intellectual/wannabe love guru who thinks she's too good for Sonic. Tails became a mix between jerk and cowardly child who fiddles around with a giant iPad on the sidelines (and it always looks like a bad joke parody), and he whines about Pontiffs character screw-ups and thinks his association with Sonic is to blame for his *regression* . In all honesty, did Tails even need more "character development" after SA2 ( _before_ SEGA ruined him in future games)? Knuckles sounds like a loud/angry/smug moron who thinks he's better than Sonic, gets teased/easily flustered by Rouge and Amy (especially over something as important as guarding the Master Emerald, rude), vocal about wanting to punch things like a meathead, and for a time was tricked by Eggman more often than he was in the past. Almost like his regression and regurgitating the same conflict is for the shallow benefit of: A. People who never played Sonic 3 or Sonic Adventure (even then, it was questionable) before. B. SEGA/Sonic Team themselves when they don't know how to incorporate him into the plot, in the way that makes him stand out. Spare him (and us) the embarrassment, Iizuka There are other characters, but these three are the most egregious, who Sonic Frontiers didn't properly fix as the vocal community claims. Another example of the fanbase's copium and toxic positivity over Frontiers. *I want the franchise to get better **_too_* , but I'm not going to pretend that this is the right way to do it, or just sit around and trust SEGA/Flynn to do it on their own. That's like tying someone to a cross and having them watch their favorite thing become more and more unrecognizable (until they forget everything that made them a fan in the first place), while telling them that it'll all work out. That's considered torture for many DIY-ers.
