At the time everyone thought this would be Cameron’s legacy. Luckily he found a way out of that by declaring a referendum without considering the consequences.

Ian was right on the money Funny how no one ever takes the Daily Mail seriously until the allegations over what Cameron has done came to light, and then everyone believes the story even though they published the story. There was also an incredible lack of perspective. It was laughable!

All the people and media proved back then is that if someone rich doesn’t get what they want in government, they will sink you with a news story to the press about you, true or not. Hislop moved against that grain and tried to tell us to think for ourselves and maybe do the same.

The hesitancy of the audience to go along with Hislop's rant (despite the final whooping) is rather depressing. It reminds me of a schoolkid doing something brazen (Hislop) and another schoolkid (the audience) running to tell on him.

No one has ever accused a prime minister or cabinet member of anything even remotely like this in the recent past to my knowledge. It's uncharted territory. For a book/publishers to come out with something like this would be risking enormous, potentially bankrupting, sized settlement sums. In other words they would have had to have been sure they were on solid defensible ground. Aka they have photos.

MM Ian did something dodgy in one of those societies, his body language is a dead give away.

Hislop carefully blusters his way out the fact that he had been associated with the same group as Cameron - at a different time - by ranting about Ashcroft and the Tories. I remember when Hislop made huffing and puffing , when Cameron bought a house in London , for £4.5 million, while also having a second house , in the country. Well , Hislop, himself has a house, in the same area as Cameron , in London- valued at about the same amount. Hislop also has a second house in leafy Kent. Hislop is a man who earns a fortune from rampant hypocrisy. Did you notice that the "bedroom tax" was brought in by the Conservatives , to bring state payments on council houses to match those applied by Labour to allowable subsidised private accommodation ? I thought not. Nobody shouted at the original Labour "private bedroom tax" - least of all, people like Hislop and Merton.

Ian Hislop and Paul Merton have changed beyond recognition if you watch back the earlier series of HIGNFY the two of them are witty, funny, highly controversial and highly amusing. Exactly what you would expect from a satirical new show that's supposed to be poking fun at the political classes and their bizarre behaviours and decisions. These days Hislop in particular is a little botter boy who sucks up to the establishment and is scared to say Boo! to a mouse. Merton is just slowly becoming disinterested and essentially a fucking bore to watch on TV he used to be very funny and witty.

Ian Hislop is a hypocrite of the highest order.
