I had a huge flare up the weeks before and during Christmas which was compounded by getting food poisoning for the first time in my life. I managed to achieve drug free remission on new years for a few weeks, I relapsed when I gorged myself at a buffet (6 plates of food of various different cultures) which ruined my gut for well over a week. The final secret to achieve remission for me was a long fast (a 5 day water fast) to allow my gut the opportunity to heal as any digestion is effectively picking a scab if the inflammation is bad enough. Another important element was consuming raw cabbage leaf, for whatever reason this stabilized my digestion and prevents diarrhoea unlike any other food item I've come across.

Glad you're feeling good now! I'm a big fan of the use of fasting and cabbage juice as well. Never tried raw cabbage leaf.

I don't have an IBD and my rear is burning just watching this! Seriously though, thank you for all the stories and information you put out. My son's UC is stable right now and I'm so grateful. We've made numerous dietary changes and will be seeing a FMD in the near future for further advice on getting his gut healthy. Seeing my 6YO getting a blood transfusion and looking like he was in a concentration camp because he was so thin broke my heart. I'd do anything to help him heal.

That mental health is serious in dealing with everything right but for us with UC and striving to heal it can be tough as I am going through it real heavy And gradually adding to your diet can be a challenge So my problem is knowing when to try other foods and how often you can eat it because what can happen and has happened to me is starting over so to speak So foods that I build up to I can longer eat because I over did It and have to work back up and this means eating smoothies all day and night then from there get clear again to eat cooked vegetables with seasoning and then rice, lentils, tofu, whole foods like fruit and vegetables, and salads This is as far as I've gotten but I keep getting back up for more that's the mental side
@Knighttus
@Knighttus 2 года назад
This gives hope, but why doesn't the diet work for soo many people?
@team_honnas
@team_honnas 2 года назад
Good question. I'm not sure I have the right answer for it. I do believe the mechanism of onset is caused by a dysbiotic gut microbiome that can happen as a result of some sort of combination of diet, antibiotic usage and genetics (plus other things that can cause dysbiosis but these seem to likely be the main three ways). So what makes sense to me and what worked in practice for me anecdotally was working to improve the composition of my gut microbiome with nutrition and exercise. There do seem to be individuals who don't respond to a gut microbiome optimizing diet as well as I would hope, and I don't know if that is because of individual variation in each persons' specific nutritional needs for the gut microbiome- as in certain people may benefit from different prebiotic and probiotic foods than the certain prebiotic and probiotic foods that worked for me. That's where gut microbiome testing can be useful, eliminating some of the guesswork. There may also be people who have a far more compromised gut microbiome, people who might have parasites that haven't been detected before, perhaps biofilm build ups from mycobacterium that make it extremely difficult to optimize the gut microbiome with diet alone due to the protective nature that biofilms provide the mycobacterium- these need specific types of treatment from what I understand that go beyond just nutrition. There are a number of variables, and that's why I think eubiotic nutrition is only one piece of the puzzle, albeit a major puzzle piece, in optimizing the gut microbiome. There are a lot of cool adjuvant therapies that can help assist proper nutrition in optimizing the gut microbiome. But again, it's a puzzle and some are a lot harder to solve than others. I know that doesn't answer the question, but I hope it helps to begin answering it!

What about German new medicine? You mentioned hormones, do you or did you take some hormone balancing therapy?
@team_honnas
@team_honnas 2 года назад
GNM is complicated. I can see how it could be helpful from a mental standpoint. I do think it's important to be able to control one's emotions and thoughts, but I also believe we are also biological beings that need to consume a proper eubiotic diet as well. I at one point was prescribed hcg to increase my testosterone way back in 2015 and 2016, but I eventually stopped taking it and decided to pursue a more natural approach. I found a guy named Christopher Walker who published lots of videos and few books about increasing testosterone naturally by prioritizing micronutrient supplementation, intermittent fasting, proper exercise, sleep, etc. I haven't taken any kind of hormone therapy since the hcg and my hormones seem to be pretty well balanced at the moment, though my testosterone may still be a little on the low end of the normal reference range. Haven't checked in a few years.

What's your opinion on the carnivore diet? Shawn Baker has promoted that diet as a treatment for ulcerative colitis. These carnivore diet gurus think carbs are the problem but you seem to have treated your ulcerative colitis while still being able to eat a lot of carbs. That's remarkable.

I did not like this video. I feel like you are deliberately putting things in your body to irritate your gut which you have worked so hard to heal. What are you trying to prove? Why would you do this?
@team_honnas
@team_honnas 2 года назад
Hi Julie, thank you for the comment. I see your point, though my intention was to present a different message. There were a few reasons why I wanted to do this video. First, I love the show Hot Ones and one of my favorite meals/foods is spicy buffalo wings. When I was sick I couldn't eat spicy wings because it would wreck me and I would suffer really bad if I did. So I missed being able to eat wings very, very badly. When I first decided I wanted to try and get healthy, I wanted to get healthy so that I could not only stop bleeding, and have healthy bowel movements again, but also so that I could regain the freedom to eat out with my friends and family- the freedom that I had lost. Healing to me meant being able to consume a full range of foods without bleeding, mucus, urgency or diarrhea. To have well-formed, solid bowel movements and to be on no medication. Dietary freedom is incredibly important to me, the freedom to eat out with my friends and family without worrying about soiling myself. To just be normal. If I couldn’t venture outside of the “healthy foods” I ate on my protocol, then I wouldn’t have achieved the level of health I was looking for. I’ve shown my colonoscopy results, but I wanted to do something different with this video. I wanted to show people what is possible. I want people to know that it is possible to get healthy, and not just maintain good health by following a really strict diet. But that it’s possible to maintain good health while being able to enjoy every food there is, even food that isn’t necessary healthy. I want people to know that it is possible to even eat insanely spicy hot wings like we did in the Hot Twos video and still have healthy BMs and not spiral into a flare. And, that it’s possible to be able to enjoy a fun evening with your family and not worry/obsess about whether or not what you’re eating is on your approved dietary protocol. With this video we wanted to show people what is possible while also giving people a chance to get to know Kara and I in a way that we haven’t done before. I wanted to show people that not only do I have the freedom to eat my favorite foods again, but I can now eat even spicier wings than I’ve ever done before. Now just to be clear, I recommend an 80-20 approach where 80% of the time I eat healthy, structured, gut microbiome optimizing meals. And then the other 20% of the time I have the freedom to eat whatever I want with my friends and family. I’m not an advocate of eating junk all the time, that’s not at all what I’m about. But, I do want to show people that it can be possible to enjoy their favorite foods and not be confined to strict, rigid dietary rules with zero flexibility or freedom. So in summary, this is the answer to your two questions (what am I trying to prove and why would I do this). I did this because I wanted to prove what is possible. I wanted to give people hope by showing the level of freedom that can be potentially achieved. My intention was not to offend anyone. And while I did work very hard to get healthy, I also wanted to show that the level of health I am currently living at is not fragile. The level of health I am living at is not one meal away from spiraling out of control. And I think it’s possible for other individuals to get to this level of health as well. Anyway, sorry for the long response. I hope this makes a little more sense as to the reasoning of why we made this video, though I understand you may still disagree with us having done it. I understand that and respect your opinion. I hope you are doing well and we are wishing you the best!
