A fisherman's life may not be glamorous, but it is fulfilling and sometimes exciting.

Wow, that drone shot of the harbor shows how diverse the boats are. I don't believe I saw any two boats the same and although functionality must be common amoung many of the boats, the way they go about doing so must be a learning experience in its own.

Us too! I'd like to take it out over the water on trips more, but any amount of swell makes for a hard time. We crashed it (on the deck luckily) trying take it off on a 2-3' swell.

Looks like a lot of boats in the harbour, are you all in competition with each other fishing the same areas for the same catch?

On your circle hooks.. do you like offset or regular straight points ?
@EISAlaska
@EISAlaska 4 года назад
Hi Brett. We use regular circle hooks. They have a very slight offset so they are easy to bait, but nothing like a a J-hook or EZ-Baiter hook.

Do you have a dogfish problem? Earlier this year I tried halibut fishing in the Strait of Juan de Fuca (recreational, not commercial) in 200-300ft of water. The dogfishes took every bait as soon as I drop it down. Wasted a dozen herrings in no time at all. Lost a few hooks too.

The dogfish usually move into this area in the fall. It's crazy how one day there isn't many and halibut fishing is good. A few days later it's thick with dogfish and they drive everything else out.

We've had it weighed before, at the time dry it was 1250 lbs. Since then we've added line, so probably closer to 1350 lbs now.
