I'm actually building a deck of these for my sister now. Shes learning to play so when she masters the basics she can have this deck. She saw this video with me and said she wants these when we were looking for decks so thanks for helping inspire a new duelist.
Apparently, the main deck Ice Barriers are abyssmal in summoning their Extra Deck monsters coz in the lore, they're divided into two camps: let the dragons free or keep them frozen. The latter held more sway. The new cards from the Structure Deck are pro-free the dragons. Supposedly. I dunno, I didn't do research. I just overheard it from somewhere. XD LOL
Fun fact: Evilswarm Bahamut (the corrupted version of Brionac by the lswarm virus) is a Dragon-type monster for some reason, while brio was originally Sea Serpent
Brionac by a Sea Serpent feel like a error that Konami, that never be fixed for some reason. In lore Trishula the Dragon of lcy Imprisonment is all three ice barrier fusion to defeat Dewloren, Tiger king of the ice barrier. Which is Reference in the card Terror of Trishula. If you look closely you can see it not based or zero Trishula. so, it must be icy Imprisonment. Which in lore makes sense because brionac is treated as a dragon but not in game for some reason
As much as I love seeing old Duel Terminal/Master Guide archetypes get new support, one downside is that they sometimes have to add to/retcon the story to include them. However, they’ve been doing a pretty good job so far. They introduced new Dragunity boss monsters to take on the Ice Barrier dragons, and they’ve introduced several members of the “Release the Dragon” side of the Ice Barrier clan. Then again, the original Duel Terminal story is probably the least detailed of the group, meaning there’s still more room to add improvements. Due to this, I’m honestly looking forward to seeing how they handle other DT archetypes getting new support (Flamvell, Gusto, AoJ, etc.).
@@GoldenNovaYugioh That would be interesting...as long as the new support doesn't help contribute to the dreaded Bird-Up deck. Maybe it'd have an archetype summoning restriction?
Before XX-Clussion, X-Saber were the only neglected archetype from the first war By this, I mean they didn't have card art Related to the Worm or Fabled War
Great video. You could say my eyes were *FROZEN* to the screen! Anyway looking forward to the HEROs video. Also use Jaiden’s victory theme from Duel Links when discussing Neos.
Duel terminal history arc 1 ending simplified: Flamevell: Guys we got a message from the ice barriers on how to beat the fabel! I'll put you through now! Ice barriers: *three headed dragon roars in the background* FFFFFFFUUUUUUU!!!- *Feed cuts* X-sabers: ...told you we should have just used meteors.
Every time I watch one of your earlier videos I am astounded at how fast the channel has exploded. Your quality was top tier pretty much out the gate. Nowhere to go from here but up! 40k is just around the bend and this hype train AIN'T GOT NO BREAKS!!!
I feel like you should get Rata to retweet your 5k goal so the thousands of people who keep posting 'hero archetype archive when' whenever he uploads can turn their attention to somebody else. you'll have 5k subs in no time
I would like to say i appreciate your videos. The content you provide plus all the information is awesome. I don’t have much free time to keep up with the game like i use to. With these kind of videos, i am able to keep up with new themes/archtypes and new cards. I can see how they generally want to be played and how they are played.
That's great to hear, because that is EXACTLY what I'm hoping to accomplish with these videos! Thank you for letting me know, it means so so so much to me!
I suggest to add Marincess Coral Anemone, another Revival card Salvage, Surface and Mooray of Greed Mistar Boy for more Atk gain and 101 just to go in line with Revealer's restrictions Ice Mirror is another great choice to summon Prior, then tribute itself and avoid the Mirror's restrictions Silent Sea Neetle, Ice Knight and the Kragens Xyz from Brothers of Legend give a great extension and control Also, still waiting for the Ice Barrier versions of Avance and Emilia Maybe Gishki Vanity, even
I actually helped out in developing Hexa Spirit. Edit I guess I could clarify some things. Hexa Spirit originally was supposed to special summon a monster from your deck in order to modify it’s level but it was deemed a bit to good so I had the effect changed to a mill. As for why Zero Dragon of the Ice Barrier is not called Subzero is due to an archetype I am currently developing. In their beta design so far they can get 50 attacks in.
Ah Blizzard Warrior, my favorite Technically Not Of The Ice Barrier with fantastic art and a useless effect. Also fun fact, Wetlands is active, Royal Knight can't run over the Token he forces on the opponent. With hindsight/the release of Brothers of Legend: Number 4: Stealth Kragen is a neat card that could change Shock Troop into something actually threatening. I do wanna thank you for the mention of Shooting Riser- I've off and on fiddled with Ice Barriers because I genuinely love the aesthetic but couldn't come up with a good method of dropping a Trishula on the opponent's turn, so that'll definitely help!
Me personally in the ice barrier archetype itself not that great, but I share a certain affinity for Trishula if you got 10 Yu-Gi-Oh players in a room and told them to pick their personal signer dragon, he’d be my choice

I was going to make a joke about Deskbots like ‘This is getting out of hand, now there are...’ you get it. But then you said you were trying to do HEROs. You are gonna need ALL OF DESKBOTS, and even then it’s gonna be rough.
Great video as always can't wait to see what you do with a dead spots whether they become the next elitch villain or a ragtag of support characters for you either way is awesome
Aw, there ain't no way the Deskbots are evil! They're a bunch of helper bots who make things better, and will in NO way malfunction and cause any problems! 😀
So what do you think about this idea: a Yu-Gi-Oh anime based off the duel spirits world. It's a slice of life anime, focusing on different monsters, like the prank-kids and the ghost tricks and such. Or hypothetically, a slice of life anime based off one of the duel spirits in the duel spirits world? How would you do it?
I'd like to say, as a player who loves ice barrier and have many good decks, this deck isn't as bad as you think. It's still a control deck which helps me have a lot of fun and win some games. If you learn how to master ice barriers, they are coming pretty handy.
common mistake most player do when using ice barrier is synchro summoning using main deck member without re-swarming. reducing field presence in control deck that relying on swarming is bad idea
@@yannyproton515 for this reason, the synchro ironically perform better in other deck but ice barrier(dewloren used continuous s/t loop combo, brionac+gungnir in mermail-atlantean, trishula in synchro spammer deck)
Nowadays, due to the addition of Mirror Mage, Georgius, and Lancea, Ice Barrier really is something viable and interesting in its complexity. It would be cool for a follow-up vid given the dramatic change, I think
Adding statue barrier of the torrent can absolutely wreck a lot of decks if you use something else to protect it for that first turn then just control the board with the other ice monsters Hexa is amazing for making trishula. Wether you need a level 1 2 or 3 for whatever combination to get trishula he gets it. My favorite is revealer defender speaker but you can get trishula off 5 or 6 diff combos of ice barrier
So given the recent surge of Hidden Arsenal yugioh stuff (Ice Barriers, Mist Valley boid ups, the Dragunity support that will eventually arrive....) does this mean Genex will get a structure and subsequent video????
Nova if you ever make a video this long again I swear I WILL TAKE YOUR ELBOWS TOO Also in this house we stan an archetype that can ruin Endymion's plans even if they are....yea....
I honestly just want an anime focused entirely on card lores from the oldies like Gagagigo and Die Grephers rivalries and posible paths to all the duel terminal wars from Wyrms invasion to the shadoll and Infernoids instead of the bullshit meta changing anime's since 5ds.
@@GoldenNovaYugioh indeed but konami is so greedy evil they won't cause if doesn't shake the game to sell new cards its not important to them if the fans want it. It could clear up things to if they fill in the gaps like Wayne defecting to Ice Barrier or a few question if had for a long time like are Gearfried and Gilford the same or related due to there sword affinity and similar name and is Paladin of White Dragon an alternative possibility for Gaia cause of there similar body type and green skin.
It was fun. Making powerful beat sticks from low levels. Aquajet can always be nasty. Ran around on the GBA with dream rabbit and dream clown and before xyz came out played with a mk3 legendary gravity bind for fun.
@@GoldenNovaYugioh yeah but you still got that spell card that tributes to special from the deck, as well as Zuijin that tributes itself to special summon a level 5 or higher ice barrier.
That is fair, they do have a lot more tributing than they used to. I guess the question is: Is all that enough to warrant usage when the pool of cards that tribute is still pretty small (but I suppose that's what the testing is for xD)?
My favorite archetype... I'm so disappointed it's not good but oh well I still play it. And it's not as bad (still not great but not as bad as it was) now that we have the umi control cards.
@@GoldenNovaYugioh To be honest the Ice Barrier archetype is one of my favorites and have potential. Even though a lot of there cards are terrible. Basically the video what awesome and I'd love to have a Ice Barrier lore or just more in general. Keep doing good work!
If you're right, I suppose there's just a hole in the cultural memory. But personally I only ever saw people try to add Xexex and Yagan to Rank 4 Toolbox decks, and maybe some King and Queen shenanigans that didn't quite work out.
I'll say this. Had they Came out with a Structure Deck eariler to make These Ice Barriers at least "Playable", then it was more than welcomed. But I'm more than glad that the Fans got it out of their System now. Cause it Still Pisses me OFF that Hazy Flames Got Shafted over for more Water Themed BS! Same fore Volcanics! Volcanic, or ANY Pyro-themed Deck could've used some better support to Really Pop out some insane boards. The biggest reason for my discontent in yugioh. Is Mainly Cause Dragons/Wyrms, Water, or just Chaos Decks have ruled the Format for THE LONGEST time! I still hate how Paleo-Frogs Control the Board! I Still Hate the OVERWHELMING amount of Generic Dragon/Wyrm support is out there, and Dark/Light Decks run the gambit of Annoying, or Just plain Difficult to Overcome thanks to the Utility of the Engines they abuse.
You have an almost Nintendo/Disney creator-esque vibe to how you approach your videos. They're very pleasant to watch/listen to. Especially on particularly long or boring car rides. What a gem of a channel
As a frequent 'listen to long videos on long drives'-er, I'm glad I can give back! Thank you for the compliment, I'm so glad you thank that highly of my work!
It actually makes sense lore-wise why the Ice Barrier Dragons never saw play in Ice Barrier decks is because the people of the Ice Barrier could never actually tame said dragons. 🤣🤣
back when the archetype was out i tried em and reach a conclusion ; ice barrier were meant to swarm the field to limit opponent moves and whittle down their resources. synchro summoning using ice barrier main deck mons is ill advised unless otk is possible coz doing so reducing limitation imposed to opponent
@@GoldenNovaYugioh I'd say I'm here for it, but your content is so 10/10 I'd have to list the thousand other things I'm here for. Cherish her friend, I love seeing it!
@@GoldenNovaYugioh Can I mention you in one of my yt videos? (I have 7 pets (3 dogs, two cats, a parrot and a fish) so I will tell them, but I dont beilieve that they will listen to me)
