When it comes to ice fishing electronics I have an ever deepening appreciation for simplicity and light weight. In this video I test the Garmin Striker Cast portable sonar in 30'+ deep water in search of perch and trout.

I have a striker cast and I love it for ice fishing. I always auger an extra hole just for it. As for keeping it centred in the hole I just cut a striker cast sized shape in a foam mat that is cut circular to the size of my ice fishing hole and it works beauty. No interference from the ice on the edge and no freeze up

I bought this Striker Cast 2 years ago and I love using it. The deepest I've used it at is 75 feet with 10 inch of ice. I usually will switch from traditional to flasher and manually adjust gain and depth. I have a small tablet that I downloaded the Garmin app and it works perfectly.

I have a question.. Im new to the striker cast I just got one and I've used it only twice so far. I thought I wouldn't be able to see my lure with it but according to this RU-vid video I can? How and when is it useful? any info helps. Can I set it up beside my kayak and see my lure directly below on the screen?

I love your videos about this Garmin Strike Cast GPS! :D You are actually soooooo much better than the other youtubers at teaching how to use this Garmin a proper way. Heck not even Garmin could bother to make a video to show us how it actually works in action and how to spot fish. But can you please make a video from shoreline casting out in the open water during summer time so we can see how to utilize it to the max the other seasons?

Thank you for the next great little treat of a video. Made me think again about gettig one of those portable fishfinders...freezing hands, I bring a portable heater with me when i fish without a shelter and heat hands whenever I get them wet...

Awesome video! I bought one for this year and in one morning, huge improvement being able to target the right depth! Also saved me sitting in a dead spot! Thanks!

I use a Deeper Pro 2 for kayak and ice fishing. Same kind of sonar unit as the garmin striker. It works great and fits in my pocket between holes. I like your bucket mount for your phone.

I like to use the same unit in flasher mode when ice fishing. Maybe consider doing a video on switching/comparing the modes of the striker unit.

that would be a great jaw jacker monitor if you were away from the hole

I have an old Samsung tablet that i use with my Garmin Striker Cast. It'll last 6hrs and if i need longer, i have external battery packs to charge. In the summer i put it on a separate pole and cast it out to get the topography on the lake bottom too. Works great.

@@cowbway8462 i don't have problems I get 6-7hrs on my Samsung S10 and if i need a bigger screen i break out my tablet. I'm in Utah, coldest I've been here is probably 5-10 degrees Fahrenheit. I'll usually ice fish from 7-8am to about 2-3pm so maybe 6-8hrs or so. Maybe try a tablet, the striker Cast is a pretty cool device, definitely recommend it.

It'll be interesting to see how this does as winter goes on and (hopefully) the ice thickens. I wonder at what point in ice depth the unit stops being very effective. Edit to add: helps if I watch the rest of the video before commenting...

My ice is 3’ deep. Can you attach something to the finder and shove it down lower into the water to open the cone?
@spiltmilt

It’s buoyant so that would be challenging

could probably make something with pvc pipe and a weight
