Kind of funny take, cuz I thought the jankiness of it was why I absolutely loved it. Rode it repeatedly because I just loved it. I know I may be in the minority on this one but I clearly wasn't expecting much out of it and was suprised by what I experienced.

Being from Texas, I'm not likely to get to visit, but this looks like something I would make a point to see if I were in the area. It looks like a beautiful ride in a beautiful park and any jankiness is part of the beauty. Like Arrow's first ever mine train at Six Flags Over Texas which I've ridden many times. It is also janky and beautiful.

I absolutely love this ride but whenever I take friends their reaction is "Wow, that ride feels a little...unsafe..." And I'm like, "YEAH! isn't it fantastic?!!" I think the wildness and instability of it is why I love it
@gregorymoore2877
@gregorymoore2877 11 месяцев назад
Being unsafe and feeling unsafe are two different things. It's a roller coaster. It's SUPPOSED to feel unsafe. Any roller coaster that doesn't feel unsafe is not doing its job. 😁

Just gonna pop in with some corrections: This coaster was never originally a slide. It was a coaster designed and manufactured in-house in 1983 as a mix between an alpine coaster and a bobsled attraction. The parts of the coasters theming that you attributed to its former life as a slide are just theming elements. Ascott didn’t make the attraction, they were brought in in 1985 to help make adjustments so loading guests in and out wouldn’t take as long. And for a family-built coaster from 1983, I think this ride is absolutely killer. It’s essentially a backyard coaster with an overblown budget, and it makes great use of its space despite some funky pacing issues.
@fullofbarkingdogs
@fullofbarkingdogs 2 года назад
It’s a personal pet peeve of mine when family parks don’t get credit where credit is due. The vast majority of Enchanted Forest was built and sculpted by hand on-site by Roger Tofte and his kids/grandkids over decades, Ice Mountain included. I’ve been daydreaming of building my own theme park my whole life, and I don’t think I’d be able to make anything as cool and charming as Enchanted Forest!
@CoasterStudios
@CoasterStudios 2 года назад
I love the point you brought up at the end, because I absolutely agree. I did not know all the stuff you mentioned in your first comment, I was just going based off of what information I could find online- which honestly wasn't much. You're right that for a roller coaster built by hand it is impressive
@gregorymoore2877
@gregorymoore2877 11 месяцев назад
I'm intrigued by what appears to be extra tunnels that are now unused on this ride. Were the tracks re-routed when Ascott made the adjustments? It's difficult to see in the video, but it looks like there might have been another lift on the other side of the waterfall. And inside that first tunnel, if you look below the track, there appear to be rectangular holes in the floor that appear to make a path. It looks like they come from another part of the tunnel and then merge with the current ride path. Near the end, there is another trough and tunnel that runs next to the current ride path. It's almost as though this ride used to have dual tracks through the station and then a dual lift and the tracks would merge at the top of the lifts. Did I guess correctly?
@fullofbarkingdogs
@fullofbarkingdogs 11 месяцев назад
@@gregorymoore2877 Nope! Some of what you’re seeing is part of the coaster/flume hybrid next to Ice Mountain, and some of it appears to be maintenance related. The track layout for this coaster has never been altered as far as I’m aware.
@WCHCOR

If you knew the history of Enchanted Forest, you might have a better understanding of the Ice Mountain bobsleds. Build by one man and his family, the rides are mostly designed by the owner. I've ridden this ride hundreds of times, yes the transitions are rough at times, but, in my opinion, do not make this a one and done.

I live a few hours away from Ice Mountain Bobsleds. This may be the most un-relatable review I’ve ever heard from you, Taylor. I’m biased, certainly, but this coaster is weird in all the right ways. The entire point of the coaster’s existence is to be a unique, interesting family attraction and it absolutely succeeds. I marathoned this coaster with my kids a few years ago and they were pumped for every ride. These same kids marathoned Lightning Rod last summer and also enjoyed the heck out of that. I think you’ve taken your i305 sensibilities and applied them to a completely different attraction. You’re right about the criticisms and faults of this ride, but fail to appreciate the entertainment value that it all provides. In so many ways, this ride is a Monty Python take on a coaster. Or maybe a “so bad it’s good” coaster. Either way, I look forward to the next chance I get to give it a spin.
@brobergaaron

It sounds like you also have some sentimental attachment to it- I've only ridden the ride once. I'm just basing it off of that one experience I had. I just wasn't a fan of the experience- but I'm glad that the ride has its fans! I imagine that's why its managed to make it almost 30 years!

I grew up in Eugene, Oregon. While the PNW DEFINITELY needs a larger more fleshed out park, I'm really glad Enchanted Forest exists and I'm glad it's so weird. Oregon is a place that prides itself on its quirkiness (especially Eugene, Portland and Bend.) I don't think the PNW is the place to have a bunch of Vekoma clones and standard B&Ms. It just wouldn't fit. The bizarre nature of Enchanted Forest and the fact that it has an elven wooden fairytale theme really fits in well. I think it embodies the region better than Wild Waves does. Ice Mountain Bobsled is not the greatest coaster and no one expects it to be. But it shouldn't be "fixed" because it's better being weird and awkward. That said, I do think that the region needs a larger theme park to fit in your more standard thrills. Or perhaps an indoor park in the same fashion as Nickelodeon Universe if weather is the main concern. But as it is, this park is really a perfect fit for the area.
@ThyPandora
@ThyPandora 2 года назад
Wild Waves is probably the largest park that the PNW has, and that's up in Washington. The Pacific Northwest is just asking for a corporate investment park that takes advantage of all the scenery. Can you imagine Dollywood but done with a PNW flair? That'd be amazing.
@zacg_
@zacg_ 2 года назад
@@ThyPandora Silverwood is sort of like that, though not on the scale of Dollywood. And unfortunately, Silverwood is off in the middle of nowhere and not close enough for most people in Oregon or Washington (or frankly even Idaho) to easily get to. Having a Herschend style park located within an hour of interstate five in Oregon or Washington would be fantastic! I live a few hours from Dollywood now and it's one of the best parks in the country, as is SDC. There would definitely be an excited guest base if someone built such a park, though I don't know where they'd build such a park without it costing a fortune to build and facing myriad lawsuits (if you are familiar with the PNW.)

After 900+ coasters, it's difficult to surprise me any more. When something does, I'm super happy. This ride is the Sharknado of coasters. Nothing about it scrams 'quality' and it probably shouldn't even exist at all, but it does and it's a freaking blast. Yeah, there are a couple of WTF moments, but that made it even better IMHO. Not gonna lie, it was the best steel coaster in my entire pacific NW trip and even sat in my top 20 for awhile.
