I had four of these 7000's at one stage - I used to buy one every time I went to the USA on holiday and would bring them home to Africa. I sold three of them a few years ago, and kept one which I still have and will probably never part with. In my opinion, the best all in one mobile HF/VHF/UHF rig for the vehicle that has ever made. Just gets a bit warm and likes the voltage to be above 12.8. I run it with a Little Tarheel screwdriver antenna and automatic antenna controller - perfect rig for the car. Icom needs another one like this with this form factor
Also one of my favourite transceivers ever. Stupidly I sold my original one but happily have recently replaced it. xggcomms in the UK sell a superb sound card interface, with just one USB connection for Sound I/O and Radio Control & Telemetry. This works a treat with the likes of WSJT-X and other fine software. I like the video out, which you can use with a suitable monitor or capture device into your PC to give you a 'big screen'. The radio's only apparent oddity is that you need to disconnect the microphone when you are doing PC digital modes, as the microphone is 'live' during transmit and will pick-up any other sound in the shack.
i have this radio and i love it.does a lot for such a small mobile rig and i really like the display.thinking about connecting a pan adapter to have a better scope. dont care for the one thats built in. then again this radio came out in the mid 2000's so for what it is ,its pretty good!
I am currently using my ICOM 7000 in my mobile with (3) HUSTLER Resonators on a 22” mast and it’s AWESOME. It’s the Fourth one I have owned over the years and if it were to fail and not be repairable I would buy another one.I Hate touch screen radios so I will never buy another New ICOM HF mobile and I try and buy only ICOM Radios when possible.I have never had any issues with any of them and they all have been great in my mobile and my shack.👍🎙
You say it's your 4th IC7000. You also state you've had no issues with any of them. Does that mean you currently own 4 of them? Or that you got rid of 3 of them for other reasons? They seem like nice radios. I currently have an IC 706Mk2G. Which works great. But I'm thinking in the future I may want one of these. What say you?
Do not buy one for Japanese use. It is the #S01. It can not be expanded to transmit in your nation's frequency ranges. It can be expanded to receive all frequencies. But it can only transmit on the Japanese approved frequencies. It is unfortunate.
I am suffering buyer's remorse with mine. I purchased it from ebay. It is region 0, the Japanese usage model. It is very crippled when it comes to frequencies. 2 meters is only 144Mhz to 146Mhz, 70 centimeters is only 430Mhz to 439.99 Mhz. I do not know a way to expand the radio frequencies. I can expand the receive, but not the transmit. Thus, I can hear all of two meters and 70 centimeters, but can not transmit on it all. I am very regretful.
There is no way of expanding the TX on the Japanese version. However, most of the bands are similar to European band plans, so you might get a buyer for yours there (or Japan of course).
@@hamradioop5777 Someone traded a Yeasu FT-710aess for it, for the HF frequencies of 1.6Mhz to 30 Mhz with a gap between 26Mhz to 27.995Mhz. He wanted it because it received everything from 100khz to 199.99 Mhz and 420Mhz to 479.9785Mhz. He asked for the trade and I agreed. I traded the the icom, the tuner, and a power supply. Since someone already left me a Yaesu FT-710aess transceiver at my, "shop," from May 2023 and I claimed in March as abandoned, I sold the Yaesu FT-710aess very quickly, for $800. I am experimenting with the first yaesu FT-710aess, rather carelessly because am not licensed and can not use it on the air anyway. Thus, I am altering the hidden setup menu with different values to see what happens, keeping the original values on paper. If the radio locks up, I reflash it back to the factory, unmodified, firmware. I have had it locked up plenty of times and always get back to factory setup. I can only transmit into a dummy load, since I am not licensed. But, since the entry level license has almost no HF frequencies, I will likely sell this Yaesu ft-710aess or trade it for a yaesu ft-857dl. The Icom IC-7000 left such a negative feeling that I might just sell it and forget amateur radio.
Vy73
Brilliant radio. Got one when they first hit the shops. Would of upgraded to it's successor the IC 7100 but didn't like the washed old blue display.Cool vid thanks 👍
There is no such thing on the ICOM 7000.The 2nd antenna port is for the VHF/UHF antenna.I currently own one and it’s my Fourth one.Your information is Incorrect and we should only share Facts so someone doesn’t damage their radio from misinformation.👍🎙
@1OFGODSOWN there are three replies to my original comment, one of which i correct myself having got two radios confused. May i suggest you read all comments before trying to belittle me with yours. Its not big, and its not clever.
