Nope, i dont stan cheater. If they want to date then he should divorce first. He has a wife n if im not mistaken he has a child too. So their affair got so much backlashes to the ppl that dont deserve it.
Just so you know, the director's wife stated that she would never let minhi and her husband be seen as a proper couple. She wanted them to always have this adultery tag on them and that kim minhi will always be seen as the mistress as long as they stay married. That's the official reason why she refuses the divorce
"there is a bit of misogyny" no, there is a lot of misogyny. she losses practically everything and the married man with kids didn't lose anything even though he already had an affair before and was weird as hell. she gets blacklisted while he barely suffers. wouldn't be surprised if he's a master in manipulation given his attitudes and that he did something to her, like how you gonna date someone your daughters age while you look like you can be her grandpa or while she looks like she can be your nurse at the care home
Have you seen his films?? His films are filled with vwery interesting female characters. Sometime humans falls for intellect and he is a genius storyteller.
I think aside from general misogyny, her alleged reaction to the wife's confrontation played a big part in her downfall with the public eye tbh. "You should've taken better care of your husband" and then we learn just how much the wife had sacrificed for her husband so he could spend all his time on his craft? If she'd kept her head down, I think the vitriol wouldn't have been as harsh. It's a shame, they're both really talented individuals, but the damage they've done to the people around them is irreparable.
That really upset me because how careless and morally bankrupt is she to respond to the wife that way. From what I’ve seen, the older generation of women in South Korea have had to bear the burden of being the sole caretaker of their home, their parents, and their in-laws. Without his wife’s sacrifice, he wouldn’t be able to direct these movies or lecture at university’s. There’s a long history of successful men standing on the shoulders of their wives, muses, and women overlooked due to misogyny.
the note the director left for his wife was beyond rude and disrespectful especially after 30 years of marriage. The wife deserves better, he doesn't deserve her love. The letter for the daughter is unbelievable cold and heartless. Hope KMH gets what she deserves when he does the same to her
Y’all keep questioning why she did it , she’s just a terrible person plain and simple. Don’t let her looks make you think she’s not capable of being a terrible person 💀
There's wide power gap between her and the old dude. Its highly possible she was manipulated and it was hard to say no cause he was a big shot director.
@@havensohn3821 why was it hard to say no? Was it because she was actually greedy for more fame and money? If it was not greed then she could definitely say no. I would rather have my morals intact and not ruin a family to have a big career and money. People should not treat such relationships as if they physically couldn’t say no for any reason like that. No she was an adult woman in her 30s and she definitely could say no

People were licking her shoes and I'm sitting here not trying to be mean but like.....she looks like a conniving rat to me. I guess beauty really is in the eye of the beholder but can ppl really not see her personality seeping through past the "looks?" A person can be cute and then I clock very nasty traits and they are not cute anymore just like that. 😅 Both of them are gross for what they did. Him, moreso bc he is the one with the wife and child that stepped out of the home with that cheating. No one made him do that.
her alleged reaction to the wife triggers tf out of me. I personally belong in a family broken bc of cheating and I had to ask myself constantly "what is this almost sadistic satisfaction you guys have in hurting other people like this?" like the sheer audacity to hold your head up knowing you only found love by hurting other people. you can never justify that. especially when kids are involved. even when the kids are fully adults at that point, you're forever scarring them.
There is only one name for this type of individuals: narcissistic. Trey don’t care about others’ pain. They lack empathy and remorse. They are being each other supply at the moment. But the supply will eventually run out. They will still be cockroaches that just keep on living even without food for days. The guy is an old fart thinking he a super start. She thinks she is going to be young forever. Let’s see how long she will last blacklisted.
I agree, this particular story is not something to get behind. There are others that are tamer reason behind being blacklisted. Like the many celebrities being cancelled for something they did as kids!!
To some ppl, its a challenge, they want what someone else has and don't care about the consequences or whos it hurt at the end of the day as long as they get what they want.
Idk her reaching out the other woman’s mom and blaming her for not “raising her right” is weird as hell. Regardless how she was raised a 30 yr old woman is going to act how she wants and it has nothing to do with the mother.
@@lilmoco666it was a little weird no doubt but i think when you’re in that position where you’ve been cheated on and abandoned, most people react emotionally. I think her replies were also driven by the fact that the mother kept portraying herself as the victim when in reality, the wife and the daughter where the biggest victims.
As someone who has gone through this firsthand (dad cheated on mom) I genuinely don’t care if she’s shunned, and as a matter of fact it’s disappointing to see that the old man isn’t getting the same treatment. It takes two to tango, they’re both low value people.
What I don’t understand is that why is Kim Min Hee blacklisted when literal rapists and assaulters in the industry are still roaming around having immensely successful careers. Even male cheaters do not get as much flack
I don’t agree to this sentiment though. I just think men should also get blacklisted who cheat on their partners and the problem is that they don’t. Women getting blacklisted is not the problem here. All the bad people should get blacklisted regardless of their gender. I understand where you are coming from but I just think men should get the same treatment and then it will be okay . Women also getting away with it would just make everything worse
Can we stop utilizing this whenever your favorite actor gets int trouble. Ppl literally only ever care abt this and bring it up when their "eonnie" or "oppar" is in trouble.
The note he wrote to his wife and the note he wrote to his daughter… what a heartless pos. It would’ve been better if he didn’t write anything at all and just left. He basically said “I don’t love you and you make me miserable. My happiness is more important than that of both of you. You have zero importance in my life”
As someone who actively watched this go down. The mother was totally in the right. Because he embarrassed the family. The daughter probably lost a lot of her reputation because it’s one thing to come from divorced family let alone be publicized that your father cheated with somebody your age. ESPECIALLY in Korea were your reputation is everything. No matter how rich or poor there will be somebody talking behind your back or even bullying from your circumstances.
If they cheat with you they will cheat on you. He's either gonna find another 'muse' when he gets bored with her or she's gonna find another grandpa to cuddle up to😂
Both of them deserve the criticism. I dont understand why she would throw away her whole career for this man. I feel bad for the wife and their kids that got in the mix of something they didnt deserve. I dont understand why he had to treat his daughter like that after what HE DID. Like wtf did the daughter do? And the fact he didnt even apologize…
@@PinkClorox I dunno man, I feel like any public figure would realize how huge of a PR nightmare this would be. Then again, maybe she didn't care about the backlash? Who knows?
@@thebadseedsI agree with this. Who’s not to say she is loving this life more? Probably a lot less stress and work. Being a blockbuster star is not for everyone
You can't separate art from the artist all the time, there's a line that people can't push or a common moral rule. They both should have faced the same punishment. Public figures are responsible for either adding new ideas to society or influencing others. And honestly, the message they are sending only proves what they are trying to spread.
Her attitude towards his wife even though she knows she did something bad to her shows that everything that happened to her afterwards is well-deserved
I find it very confusing when a man has a scandal his career doesn’t get affected massively however it is the opposite for a women . I find that frustrating
me too, i think it’s because women tend to care more that another woman would break loyalty to another woman and a man doesn’t gaf bc everyone oversees it
Stephanie, please do a topic of South Korean actors who've been in scandals but "survived" unscathed and are currently still very active and successful 👀
The main actress from Penthouse is one, but she was blacklisted for quite a bit before Penthouse (she got divorced from Seo Taiji, often credited to be the creator of the first Kpop group named Seo Taiji and the Boys, it was a whole mess).
@@honeysuckle888no she didn’t do anything bad, but Seo Taiji is extremely revered in Korea, and she was married to him secretly for 9 years in 1997, when she was 19 and he was 25 (they met when she was 15 and he was 21). The public found out about it when she sued him for about 5.5 billion won for alimony and property partition. The shock of all of it coming out caused people to turn against her immediately and she was basically blacklisted for years.
She really has such little respect for herself that I almost feel bad, but in my opinion, knowingly dating a married person is just as horrible as being the married person and cheating
Be real. Being a home wrecker is NOT AS bad being the cheater. It’s still bad, but it’s less horrible than the person that’s destroying their own family. They have a responsibility to their own family and they still chose to cheat.
@@theIaurenshow their comment has nothing to do with misogyny. What self respecting person intentionally ruins their career to be with a married man who has a history of inappropriate behavior in his workplace and cheats on his wife? Womanhood is not a monolith. Women are multifaceted beings capable of making mistakes and irresponsible decisions. Whether those decisions are influenced by men doesn’t change their moral/social implications.
Omg did she commit to the marriage? No. Blame the person who commited…aka the husband! What she did is wrong but to take the blame off from that man is just wrong…
both grossed me out. I'm understanding to those who don't know about their partner being already in a committed relationship, but knowing that? that's sick. They deserve those reaction.
I hope their relationship crashes and burns. In these situations where the two people are raging narcs/lack empathy for others it never ends well. I pray all the victims of their selfishness heal and can move on from this.
I never understand cheating you lose more when you cheat than when you simply leave the person. It’s even more evil that they never sincerely apologized or show any guilt. Sure they’re in love but how do they not feel awful.
Adultery was actually a crime in South Korea - illegal and punishable with jail time for over 60 years. It’s been less than 10 years since the law was overturned so adultery is a big deal even if everyone does it ( kind of like drugs). this scandal was a huge not only bc KMH was at her peak and had multiple public relationships with lots of popular actors.. Jo Insung, Lee SooHyuk, Lee Jungjae and ended up w a married grandpa but bc she and her mom were so shameless about it.
She was one of my favorite actors. I felt so disappointed and sad when I heard that she chose the life with an old cheating man instead of her shining acting career. She is so pretty and talented she could really have any men she wanted. I believed she was smarter than this 🤦♀️
I mean it’s a bit more complicated than that. He tried to divorce his wife several times but because of the laws over there He’s essentially stück with her. I don’t agree with the way He’s going about but I dob’t see how a developed country have laws that forces someone to stay married to a spouse they want to leave. Everyone should have the right for a divorce regardless of why.
@@rai2423 uh... that is not the point. he could have divorced his wife, minhee still admitted to the situation and showed no remorse, people would not want to support that...
@@dia3756 Actually no he couldn’t divorce his wife. Look up the story. He tried but the courts have denied him for years. He’s litterally stuck with her.
PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT: most of the time when people have a "bewitching" aura about them and people can't explain why they're drawn to them, that Just means they're MANIPULATIVE af, run for the hills.
Misogyny is so pervasive in Korean society. Literal victims get criticized and shamed while their abusers are spared. Sulli was bullied by the public for years because she dated a man 14 years older than herwho literaly groomed her. She lost her idol career over it and was just begining to come back as an actress and entertainer when she took her own life. Even now just a poorly worded instagram post will put women's careers into jeopardy when men who have been accused of literal crimes play in blockbuster movies or sell out concert venues. It's truly f*cked.
I was ready to sleep when I heard "THE HANDMAIDEN!" and my eyes opened like I had an epiphany of sorts. I love that movie and it sucks that this is only having a negative impact on the actress but not the man. If she's blacklisted why isn't he?
You'll be surprised at the amount of casting male directors who have prev records of r4pe, abuse and violence in SoKor that are still working and getting big projects. If they did these acts in the past, there's no telling as to what these bast4rds are doing to aspiring actresses these days. Justice is very elusive for women in SoKor. :(
I read sometime ago that "character bleed" is a real thing, like actors often link with the costar because the feelings are so mix up and is recommended to put distance from the role and see if the feelings stay or was just the product of pretending to be in love for months.
I second this! The Handmaiden is one of my favorite movies. Then again, the novel it was based on was pretty good, too, and probably deserves its own Stephanie-retelling.
This is such a mild "scandal". A convicted predator like Lee Kyoung Young can get kdrama roles, but KMH is blacklisted for being in a relationship with a snobby old guy.
I'm sorry but the sticky notes that the husband left to his daughter and wife are absolutely disgusting. He should just left without saying anything if that's what he's gonna write.
I heard of this n let me tell you i stan the wife. Dont divorce, make the cheating mf suffer. This guy makes my blood boil n this actress no matter how talented she is, is a home wrecker.
@@tracymay6702 why? First of all the wife have known the guy for 30 years, she knows her husband. But if not, i still applaud her for being petty, she still held her rightfull title as a wife n the mistress will always be that, just a mistress in the eyes of the world. It might not be the right thing, but thats the wife business, if she wants to be as petty as she wants, i will support her by not shitting on her decision on her own marriage.
i feel like the actress received more criticism in this instance because people actually liked her, her work, and were invested in her art, whereas most people don’t actually care about whoever’s behind the scenes i.e directors, producers, and writers.
No. Actor Lee byung hun is widely liked and people also love his works. He cheated on his wife. He's not blacklisted. He's still working successfully in the TV industry. Sulli was hated/criticized for dating an older man whereas the older man was not criticized for dating such a young girl. Female celebrities are blacklisted/ cancelled for much less compared to the male celebrities there. But I think for idols, I think it's the same for both men and women. Both of them can be cancelled over even simple rumours..
Watching this made me so mad! Cheaters and people who homewreck lack so much self-control… like he if he wasn’t happy he should have known sooner and left with his pride and she should have known to not stoop to that level. Instead they chose to hurt everyone around them 💀 and it’s just messy karma for their souls
I get so excited for these. If Stephanie wasn’t so busy on her other channels, I’d beg for two of these midnight mangos a week lol it’s just beyond entertaining and interesting without being too heavy
Yes it’s always an misogynistic reason. But I think another big reason they can separate the director from the art is because he’s behind the camera. She’s more visible and reminds people just by being on the screen. Thank you for a great episode ❤
When you believe there's no afterlife and you lack basic human decency, you wanna try everyone and everything before you die i can't believe the letter he left his wife... gut-wrenching really
Recently in malaysia, i heard there's something like this too. An old married man in his early 60s (a local singer in the 80s) cheated on his wife and having affair with his OWN DAUGHTER'S FRIEND 🌚 and he already divorced her wife of 30+ years marriage. It's sad. If I'm not mistaken both of them already got married..?
I think the wife is super smart. Don't let him divorce you, so he can't marry the mistress legally, and once he died, you still have the right for his assets.
I think that intense "bewitching spell" that people say about the director is actually a form of love-bombing & minhee was one of those people that got persuaded by that. anyways, they're both consenting adults that chose their path in life
In regards to the wife "letting it go," i actually saw a lot of people supporting her decision not to divorce with the sole reason of keeping Minhee as the mistress. So then, Minhee could never marry Hong, and instead have to deal with the title of "the other woman/homewrecker." 😮
Just reading the comments. If your partner doesn't agree to it, you can't get divorced. Isn't that scary. You can never leave your partner even if their horrible

the only reason she isn’t divorcing him is, and I quote “I will never divorce him. I’m going to wait for him till I die. I still love my husband and loved me too. Everyone around us knows how family oriented my husband is. I’m being hopeful. My husband will return to me. “

i found about this scandal in 2019 , i was just watching random Korean videos and reading the comments and someone wrote "guys did you know there is this famous Korean film director his wife refuses to grant him divorce and people applaud her"? and people who knew about this lost it and started ripping her to shreds like" did you know he is a major gaslighting cheat ,like what do you want her to do? Now that i know the full story i feel so bad for the wife.
Just gonna say... people hold women to the fire more than men because we expect men to act like animals and women to be better. Wish it wasn't like that, but that's a big factor. 🤷
This story is very similar to the Ariana Grande and Ethan Slammer here in the states. I loved Ariana and her music, but now I can’t listen to them or buy her products with good conscience anymore. I used to think that I would be able to separate the art from the artists, but in these situations, especially when there are kids involved, I feel icky deep down. People may say it’s just music, but I dunno man. Everybody deals with this kinda stuff differently. But when it comes to actors and movies, I feel like that could be different. It wouldn’t be fair to shut out a whole movie cast just because one of the cast mates did something wrong (although since the director did it, I probably would shut out the whole film). But I would still feel the same icky feeling watching a movie with them. Tricky stuff to think about. Great vid as always Mrs. and Mr. Mangobutt. ✌️
That's also messed up coz couples losing interest in each other after 30 years can happen but cheating is still shitty but ethan just had a new baby with his wife. How he felt completely happy to leave that poor w9mab is beyond me.

When it comes to actors I find it complicated to separate artist from the art because by boycotting their work you're also unintentionally screwing over everyone else who worked on the film that did nothing wrong.
But atleast it could teach producers not to hire problematic actors. And in turn, those actors could be wary about their actions the moment their actions are to be tested. But yeah, I feel bad for those innocent people behind the camera.
As someone from a family broken up by cheating I totally get the wife, in fact she's even better than me. I would have made global headlines for what I'd do. Way too many people tend to downplay the effects of being cheated on and being abandoned by your promiscuous father, bathi get over it and time heals but my blood boils when I get a tiny reminder about what happened
Stephanie, your talent for storytelling is undeniable. Your jokes are witty and IRONic and art cannot be separated from the ARTist as one embodies the other in an infinite loop ❤
WHAAA omg the irony of you covering this and me coincidentally deciding to watch "helpless" right as you posted this. Thank you so much for covering this case, and for all you do! Some days you are my source of joy because you and your hubby seem like such genuinely good hearted people. I wish you both all the success and happiness in the world.
idk what it is but she has an ethereal yet mysterious energy about her, but there's also an overwhelming, unignorable darkness (not saying she's good or bad bc i don't think that's for me to judge). she seems like the kind of person who is very cold, the type to destroy your life if she has to to get what she wants. it's kind of the energy she portrayed in Helpless tho so that could be clouding my perspective.
I still remember when this news first broke out. I don’t think she cares about what other people thinks so she was able to throw away her career but you also have to wonder why she would choose to be with a man like that. Seeing how he treated his family when they had been with him for a long time is sad. Why would she want that for herself? I hope everything worked out for her and can accept the consequences from the decision she made. Wonder how long she can control this man, since she told his wife she should’ve controlled him better.
They are probably extremely individualistic people. There is nothing other than main character syndrome that could explain how he thought these letters were okay to write ESPECIALLY the one he wrote for his daughter
@@yoohsuke I agree. It's also some what disturping to me that many of his works is so similar to his real life like he is creating his own fantasy. Wish her the best though since they been together for a long time.
No respect for cheaters! I loved her in Handmaiden. Although the director is the one married, I'm still disappointed with her. She showed no remorse at all. T__T
The thing that annoys me the most is the fact that in these situations it’s more blame on the actor/actress than the director or anyone that is behind the scenes, he was the married man and he chosen to go with her , yes she is evil for going after a married man in the first place but I still blame him more than her just because he is the married one with a daughter that he speant 20 years raising and the person that had all the opportunities to not do what he did , u can’t force someone to cheat unless they want to , I feel so bad for his family , knowing your dad left your mom for a girl almost less than half his age and was doing it while you thought he was working to provide for you
Personally all the blame should be placed on the man. I will never blame other woman for a man cheating on his wife/girlfriend. The mistress doesn’t owe anyone loyalty the cheater does
I think having your face in a movie makes it harder for people to separate the artist from the art because your face is in it. But for a director I guess it's like everyone forgets it's his movies because he's not being seen.
Thank you for your consistent uploads!~ My daily routine has been binging your videos and podcast while I work. Your storytelling and personality is top tier
Oh my god. I literally googled this woman yesterday and you uploaded this video. So i am watching a kdrama called MOVING, it's a hit. And the male lead is very famous in Korea. So somehow his dating history comes in my feed. And i see this woman. I knew her way before from her movies and scandals but she has a great list of exes. All of her exes are really famous and handsome individuals.I'm not shaming her of having many boyfriends but i just can't help but think how she went from those mans to this cheating hag. Her exes are lee jung jae from squid game, lee soo hyuk from TOMORROW and zo Insung from MOVING. It's fine if you don't know them but they are really famous and respected individuals in Korea
i agree that BOTH of them should be blacklisted, not just her. as a matter of fact, he betrayed his family. but yeah, i feel bad for the wife and daughter, the other two can choke
i’ll never understand whats so hard about getting a divorce. Falling out of love is normal but it becomes a mistake when you choose the cheat instead of parting ways decently.
Probably because the director thought his wife was a doormat since she took care of his parents. After years of sacrificing her life for his sake, he cheated on her with a younger woman and asked for a divorce. Of course, she retaliated by saying no.
This scandal completely went under the radar for me. I had no idea 😳 I knew about The Handmaiden movie, so I just assumed she was busy being a star by now. But I agree with the blacklisting of the two. They deserve everything bad that will happen to them.
No one would look at a murderer and feel sorry for them. No, cheaters and those they cheat with deal emotional/mental damage. Let's not excuse shitty behavior just because their victims don't physically die. The only time it would be acceptable to be involved in this type of situation is if the other person honestly did not know their partner was married. And this would only apply if they noped out of there as soon as they found out. Dealing with the end of a relationship due to growing apart is a thousand times easier to recover from than the death of a relationship due to betrayal. No sympathies for this sloot actress. It's just a shame that the director did not also lose his career.
