Laugh if you wish, but it's becoming a reality. A small band of Muslim dissidents managed to take out three of the largest buildings in NYC, along with the Pentagon and a field in Pennsylvania - along with 4 large jet airliners and several thousand American lives. The event caused the creation of the Department of Homeland Security, added TSA security to airports, and locked cockpits along with "Sky Marshall's " on board many domestic flights. Politically motivated supporters of a man (who is the equivalent of an old, angry Taliban cleric) in the USA managed to get inside of the Capitol building and nearly into the chamber occupied our elected officials. I shudder to think about what might have happened to them if those angry dissidents had found their way inside the Senate.

I lived in Idaho as an atheist for decades and I was attacked physically, violently and repeatedly. The people there are against human rights, public education and honest sincere conversations about ethics, morality and equality. Idaho is becoming more extreme with an influx of people from other states bringing hate filled agendas. The gentrification of the entire state is happening now and it is a real threat to this nation's democracy. If you believe in equality and justice for all do not turn your back on the extremism of a state with a small population because it has grown by 50% in the past few years and the people there are selling military surplus and advertising this on billboards. If you believe in the constitution and the first amendment then stand up now before the conservatives put that on the "used to be" list along with Roe v. Wade!

@letsomethingshine
@letsomethingshine Год назад
The Senate was SPECIFICALLY placed to make sure each State was equal regardless of population differences, that way each Governor would think were was some sort of "equality" and the rural farms would join the Union instead of siding with King George. The Senate was also seen as an easy WEDGE for the rich to support the New National Constitution, since they could most cheaply and simplistically control the Senate. And certainly the rich in each state would make sure their favored pro-rich Mercantilist representatives became the Senators.

We watched a town just over the river deteriorate under the influence of Free Staters moving in, getting onto school boards and local govt commissions, then blocking road repairs, schools improvements, health regulations for CAFOs, etc. My husband, who uses a motorized cart, experienced this new christianity persomally on our final 2 shopping trips to that town's Walmart: a handful of shoppers followed hom around, deliberately blocking both ends of an aisle so that he was repeatedly hemmed in. The white conservative Christian nationalist movement began in this country in 1789, and though most followers of it are the minority, they are very vocal and are the majority in the government. The plan, as laid out in Project 2025, the 900+-page blueprint for conservative action, will pretty well take us to a Christian theocracy, where all citizens will have equal rights----------as long as they are Christian and the right evangelical Christian.

Candybar and poop analogy can be used with describing the Bible and its salacious bits. I love how easy this game is with people who have a spoon-fed, child's eye view of their holy text. They fight to protect it with a child's rage, lacking the adult understanding of context and temperence with that irrational mindset.

This was interesting, I got a kick out of the title 'ask an atheist', as if thats somehow an expertise now:) "Ask a bald guy" would be next, but I'm joking. From what I've seen of other areas, religious dogmatism usually proliferates in areas of economic abandonment by capital investment. In North America thats rural places which are basically used for resources, then abandoned when the resources are gone. HIstorically the population is disposable, and brought in initially from other areas and not meant to put down roots,thats why you see ghost towns all over. Some stay, and essentially the religious extremism comes FROM the economic disenfranchisement, becaues you DONT see it so much in urban areas or rich areas. So the issue in america is whether such populations were well known to be created by policy planners and capitalists who simply abandon entire demographic and geographic areas as what they now call 'zones of sacrifice'. In other words, are these the predictable consequence of modern american capitalism? I don't know, but it 'seems' to be true, and if true it means that the danger is NOT 'them', its the makeup of the federalist system of corporatism which CREATES them, because if the modern economy teaches nothing else, its that human beings are becoming less and less necessary as producers in the economy, particularlyt he resource economy which is rurallly located. So the problem is only going to get much worse.

Conversely, the Founding Father’s also recognized the individuals right to defend themselves from what ever form of oppression that might prevail. It is not just “Christian Fundamentalists” that oppose over reach of rule, it’s many others, and many of those others are flocking to Idaho simply for a “like minded” sense of freedom from oppression. Are the “religious nut jobs” a part of this view, most certainly, but they are not the totality of this view either.

If you don't live in Idaho, you don't really understand those demographics, despite what polls may say. What are you using for comparison? What are your merits for "high proportion"? Have you examined the Idaho state legislatiure in detail enough to understand that you're quite possibly very wrong with that statement? What is the percentage of Mormons in office in Boise, as compared with Christians in general? It's not such an easy thing to provide evidence for claims, but it's easy to make claims on social media, and idiots will simply nod and agree without fact checking you.
