6 Days and over 700 miles of mostly unpaved forest roads from just north of Boise to the nearly the Canadian border. This overland trip featured a wealth of beautiful scenery that I attempted to capture in this video. The trip is broken down by day.

Ok, I just stumbled on to your site,,, Pretty Cool, I ran all of that country back in the 80's and 90's, been across that Manning Bridge a few times,,,, but it wasn't the Steel One thats there now,,,,, my Grandad was a Foreman with the CCC's that Built that Manning Bridge back in the day, as well as the Darby-Elk City Wagon Road across the Nez-Perce Country, if you haven't been, you should check it out..... Brad in Alaska.....

That looks like a nice trip on a dualsport or mid sized adv bike. The big boys can make it too, there wasn't anything tricky that I could see.

Great video. I appreciate that you focused on the scenery and locations, rather than vehicles/ gear like so many overland videos.

I agree. Overlanding is what I want to be doing here in Idaho, but you don't need to be kitted out like they are on so many channels. I personally believe that you only need a few things: -a way to store food -a way to cook food -a sleeping bag -shelter (this can be your car or truck) -water -navigation - get the latest paper maps and know how to read them. Get a compass and a GPS and learn how to use both -and the basics that the Forest Service wants you to carry in the back country: a bucket, a shove, and an axe. You don't need a fancy four wheel drive. If you're a good driver and know your car - what it can do and what it can't, you can overland in a VW Golf. Personally, I'd recommend at least a Subaru or something that's at least all-wheel-drive. The only expensive piece of gear that I think is critical is one that few of the channels use or even mention: A satellite PLB, or Personal Locator Beacon. Bought or leased, one of these can save your life in a remote area.

Jason from Maryland here Subscribed and bell hit! Dig the Grand! I have a fully kitted WJ "Camper". I was in Troy Idaho, 99 to Kendrick, Wauncher Gulch Road to Ahsahka, Orofino, then 12 to Missoula. I bought an 86 Jeep Cherokee Pioneer at a little used lot and drove home 2500 miles. All they way wishing I had my WJ to go camp and explore. But got a classic Jeep so no complaints! Ha. Cheers man, looking forward to seeing more trips in that area as I like to hit in early 2021.

I enjoyed the journey. Was finding fuel along the way easy enough? I've got a gas powered Grand Cherokee and have considered making trips like this. Do you have any videos about building your camp trailer? Thanks for the views. 😊

Do you have any dates for your trip. I am getting my Jeep ready to do some long trips ,but with all the health problems it has been slow. I am new to this kind of camping but for 15 years I have been doing hard core backing,now I really like the idea of this type of exploration especially when you stay off the pavement. Your channel is a whole new and fresh presentation. Please don’t change

No dates yet. Not sure when the Canadian border will even reopen. Hopefully late june or july I will be able to head up that way. There are plenty of backpacking opportunities along this route as well.

Came across your vedio, while searching places to travel to do some back road traveling and camping. After watching your vedio it was no brainer that this is the trip we are setting out to do. We will be starting the journey from Texas up to idaho in the up coming week. I am curious was there any roads on this path you took that was narrow or rocky to have to worry about climbing over?
@swansondigital3180
@swansondigital3180 4 года назад
Yes some of the forest roads on this route get narrow and or rocky at times. It's not hard core 4x4 rock crawling but you need good tires and high clearance. There are also many narrow spots. I wouldn't want to pull a trailer and larger than the one I had that's for sure.

Could a full-size truck do this trip? I got a F-150 super crew

@mikethompson7406
@mikethompson7406 4 года назад
Looks like I could probably do this in a stock suspension Outback. I'm assuming you're not rock crawling with a trailer.
@swansondigital3180
@swansondigital3180 4 года назад
Yeah that should be doable. Just need good tires.
@slateslavens
@slateslavens 3 года назад
Yes. We drove that area where the tunnels were in a 95 VW Golf. Good tires are a must - the passenger side tires were both punctured driving one of those tunnels. Luckily we had a full size spare on the roof rack and the donut spare in the trunk. A Subi would do just fine. Oh. While he only showed the tunnels on the Hiawatha Trail, it's near Moon Pass and the area is absolutely beautiful.
