Thanks maami Veetu periyavanga solli kudukara maathiri akkaraiyoda sollikuduthathuku romba nandri. And the interviewer is gud with the right questions. Thanks both of you.
First I watched the 6 min video. Now the long version... I am just 10 minutes into to the video and i am not able to resist commenting. Long live Maami.. fantastic job of the interviewer. He asks right questions at the right time and Maami share all the ancient wisdom. it is so great that maami gives credit to her mother-in-law while sharing tips, that is amazing.. These videos are unique and entertaining with Aratai and accompanying it with a short version is the way to go.. 2 thumbs up..
Hi mami, I have been doing idlis since my marriage, but never turned out really this well. Your presentation is sooo good, it turned out superb. Idlis were so soft and fluffy. all the trick was in soaking and grinding because I knew the 1:4 ratio but never got idlis right. Romba romba nandri 🙏

Wow! That’s so much of information with logical answers and tips.. this video should be definitely passed to future generations and treasure it. Nobody will share so much info abt the batter process. Ur mom is a real genius, give her a hi 5👋🏼 from me..
Thank u so much for your explanations... Though i don't clearly understand, I love to listen.... subtitles will be great! Respect ur life n experiences..ur son is such an asset...
Aunty I am so lucky to have found your videos. You’ve explained every minute detail and reasons why we follow certain methods. I could keep listening to you talking and learning from you for ever ! You know so much :) Thank you
Maami, i am your biggest fan. I followed this idly batter recipe and batter turned out so so well. Please keep up your good work. Your traditional recipes, the perfect brahmin slang and the mom son duo ellamey super.
I loved the arattai and it was almost like you were in my kitchen, demonstrating! After many years of struggling to make soft idli in the cold weather, it came out amazing! Even the last batch after 2-3 days was perfect. Thank you so very much!
My mother taught me to use chilled water during grinding both Urad and Rice so that it will not get heated up soon. Very much useful for me as I prepare the Idli & Dosa Batter every Friday here in Ibra, Sultanate of Oman. Thanks a lot.
Brilliant...lovvvvit tooooo much :) Took me back to the times when my Amma also used to sit down to grind before the Grinder came home. The texture is best with grinding sitting down :) Enjoyed watching ...
A suggestion. After grinding the Idli rice, I put back the previously ground urad dal batter back into the grinder and let the grinder do the mixing. This turns out excellent idlis.
Thank u paati so much. keralite, lived in Tirunelveli for abt 25 years.. love TN food...searched for TN taste here in Bangalore.. but didn't find that taste of south tirunelveli. Very nice aunty, detailed explanation, i like your kitchen and buddha idol. First time seeing your video, the boy who taking the video is very interested in cooking it seems, so good to hear his questions, i don't have patience like him, how patient he is, super.
such a lovely amma. How nicely she teaches the recipes. Tells us beautiful stories of yester years. Son is v lucky to have such a beautiful mom living with her. God bless and may she always teach us good recipes and of course, love her simple stories. keep them coming.
Amma, thank you so much! It's very informative. I always have doubts about why my mom use to mix it well with hand after adding the salt. I was trained to use traditional grinder since the age of 10 back in 1987, I use to make a very good thosai and Idli back than. After marriage, I was leaving with my modern life, was not really making all the traditional breakfast. Now in my 40's I really wanted to continue making the Idli and thosai breakfast. I need the next generation to keep doing these signature dishes. Well, it not too late to learn
Ma'am, my heart yearns for more people like you - it's as if you are physically connected with each of the ingredient you use! What passion! And what intelligence and astute understanding of the chemical properties and composition! Really amazing! Many families have started depending on catered food in India, especially senior citizens.. but, I am personally for home-cooked food.. especially when you are cooking for near and dear, I feel I can somehow connect strongly with them emotionally.. you are rocking Ganesh! Your closeness with your parents shines out like a star on a black sky! God bless you.. I can visualize the positive impact that this effort of creating videos of your mom's cooking has on your children. Keep up the good job! One day I intend to be like your mom! So vivacious and so talented!
I tried this recipe more than 15 times. For the mixing what I do is when the rice grinding is done I put the ulundhu batter and grind together another 5 minutes So the batter mixes evenly. Thanks for this awesome recipe. Btw I enjoy each and every bit of this video.
I learnt new thing from this video today. That you can start grinder and then put urad dhal that way the stone will not get stuck. Good tips. Also soak urad dhal for only 3 hours for idli fluffiness. Good tips.
Very well explained. Without giving up on traditions and the making style, maami has prepared it very well...so many important points like rice batter and ulundhu batter mixing and the reason to mix well is also well explained. Kudos maami 👍 will definitely follow your recipes.

Very nice I felt like my mom is telling me she also does the same way as u did each and every word u tell l felt like my is standing beside me and explaining
To mix thoroughly, I have followed the recommendation to add the ulundu mavu back in the grinder (with the rice mavu) and grind for a few minutes. This saves the trouble of having to mix by hand so much. You still beat by hand when you transfer it to the container for fermentation but it lessens the trouble a lot!
Mami, I love your style of explaining the recipe. Very detailed with focus on where we youngsters can go wrong. That is the highlight. And, of course your stories, examples. I don't have a grinder. Aattukalna eppadi irukkumnu paathurken. Avlavudhan. So, if you can tell me the tips for grinding in Mixie, I would appreciate it. I use a 750W motor mixie. So, I grind the Ulundu for max 7 mins. When I see the air bubbles, I stop. When you said 30 mins in Grinder I was wondering if I am grinding the Ulundu anywhere close to right consistency. I do understand the power in grinder is different so, it need not take 30 mins but even the consistency is not similar to what you showed. Even though the consistency of the ulundu is different, the idli comes out to be soft for me :-). I use the same proportion that you mentioned for the Grinder. Still, wanted to hear from you how you would grind in a mixie if you have done that. I use a whisker to whisk the Maavu. I will keep what you said about mixing the batter and will follow it next time. Thanks again Mami.
I have never seen a person cooking with so much love. Every word shows yr passion nd involvement and the best interest of yr family. Thank you Mami. Bless you.
Agrahara Recipes Dear Madam, you are giving good tips how to make soft idlies but if it was translated in english i could have enjoyed your video more,i could understand a little bit but if i could understand every word you said there would have been more useful to me and also many people like me.
Agrahara Recipes i so love the stories you are telling, because people like you have lots of experience and give us tips to improve on our food ,Thank you sooooo much,God bless you and give you and your family good health.
