In this episode we take a look at the 2022 release from IDR Models of the Victorian Railways DERM in HO Scale. In this video we'll cover a brief history, unboxing, running, sound and light features that come with the locomotive. As well as going for a run around the AMRA Layout in Melbourne.

I remember going from Bendigo to Echuca on a DERM at the end of 1980. The cars on the highway were going a bit faster than us! I’ve got a couple of these, they do look great. 👍🏻🇦🇺

Will great review of the DERM, I have both RM63 and MT28 fitted 2 packs of blinds to the DERM and order another 3 packs of blinds from IDR to fit to the MT. I have added passengers to both DERM and MT. RM63 is sound fitted. What I can say is that wonderful models and very happy with them

I purchased pack 9A which contained RM 61 & MT 27, have been extremely happy with them, including the sound.

Will, great review of the DERM. I have the RM60 andf MT28 pack, and am really happy with it. It is, as you say, a great model. I still have to fit some passengers, a passenger car without passengers is just not right, IMHO. Thank you for the reviuew, and the great content. Cheers, and stay safe, Michael

I run mainly Hornby and Lima Australian locos. I picked up my first modern model as a anniversary present one month ago. DERM RM62. Super excited and extremely happy with the product.

Thanks Will. All round a good model, I got mine mine with factory sound, however the sound was record on the DERM at Newport within the yard. So the span of sound isn’t large enough, it ramps up to full revs after just a few speed steps making it sound unrealistic. I am getting mine reflashed by DCC Sound with a recording done on the mainline. Looking forward to hearing it. I also bought the larger speaker from DCC Sound is so loud you need to turn it down with CV63 😊.

Very nice mate, i reckon they are a great model too, i have 58RM as preserved, along with 56RM & 28MT and 63RM & 27MT. Excellent models.

Some good points there Will, as well as the work arounds you've made. Would be interesting to know what $$ got you to that point? Because although the models are at the price point they are, for xx $ more, we could have gotten what you've managed to get. It's all in context I get, but is this perhaps where the Super DERM is intended to go?? 🤷‍♂

I don't think there were enough DERMs in that lash up, you needed more! :P I have no interest in DERMs, apart from a ride once at VGR. But this looks like such a nice model I want one now, lol

South Australia has the similar Brill railcars which were introduced the same year as the DERM, and proved to be excellent units for both broad and narrow gauge. One Brill ended up in VIC though, 44RM (Scrapped in level crossing accident 1952) and 200MT which is currently preserved at Daylesford.
