The Finals MVP only factors in one series during the Playoffs... so what if we gave out an MVP to the best player from each Conference as a reward for their performance in the Conference Playoffs? In this video, I try to answer that, as we take a look at the West Playoffs of the 2000s.

Drafted out of HS and averaged 21/9 as a Sun and made the All-Star team in 5 out of 8 seasons. People only remember his bad knees

His knees went bad at a very young age. During just his 2nd and 3rd years, he looked like he was going to carry the Suns to some titles, he was an unstoppable monster ... then came the microfracture surgery.

@@fruitiusmaximus925 he was a beast with the suns even averaged 37 PPG on the spurs in 2005 if it wasnt for Joe Johnson injury and he was healthy. They could have won that series. But suns were robbed in 2007 also even with injuries. There chances were close in 2010 if it wasnt for artest game saving rebound in game 6.

This video makes me realize just how strong the competition Kobe faced was. If Kobe had been in the East, he probably would have made the finals almost every year, even when he had almost no help.

Kobe really went through the gauntlet his whole career. The most impressive part of his legacy is that he's beaten the most 50 win teams with 25 series wins. Imagine if he played in the LEASTern Conference

He's one of the few great players that traveled that much. Most of the times when players moved that much it was because teams wanted to get rid of them. With Kidd teams were willing to give up a lot for him.

Btw, the NBA is gonna do something like this now. They've announced the Conference Finals MVP award, and now we can consider the implications of that. Lebron probably would've had 10 of those if it existed earlier, Kobe would've had a bunch, Jordan too. A new layer to future player comparisons

In a way, it would be a great thing. It would highlight a player from each conference who was MVP worthy. But at the same time, having a conference MVP may devalue the whole idea of an MVP altogether. It’s an interesting concept. All I’ll say is Kobe was robbed more than once.. Great video as always my guy!

Well since it’s more like playoffs MVP it’s definitely not downplaying the significance of MVP. It does make FMVP less important, but then an award based on only one series is kind of too overrated imo

@@jasonmoukala8909 Yet 7 games or less can mean lots of luck involved. If you really want the highest level of the highest level, why not come up with a game 7 MVP? But in real life we don't have that, and we all know why: it's too variable to judge an award based on one game (except for the all-star game since it's more entertainment-oriented)

I love your videos but I have a quick suggestion: when you read the stats skip the decimals. It takes longer for you to say it than for us to read it so it gets a bit tiresome, specially in videos like these where you comment tons of stats ! e.g. say "30 10 and 8 on 55% shooting" instead of "29.9 points, 10.4 rebounds and 8.2 assists on 54.7% shooting"

It would be a short series but maybe you could do a “what’s there potential really?” Mini series to go along with how good were they really. He puts all the brackets on their last playoff mvp in the 2010s. For example: 2009 Kobe has brackets but 08 and 01 doesn’t, 07 Duncan has brackets but not 2003.

I like this idea. How about also awarding Conference Player of the Year as regular season awards in addition to the MVP? Similar to how the NFL has Conference Offensive and Defensive Player of the Year awards. It would be a way to recognize 2 other great regular season performances besides just the MVP.
