"Jacob I have loved, but Esau I hated." Seemed pretty harsh given they hadn't done anything yet. But we can't forget that God does not exist within time as we have a concept of it. From God's perspective before a person is even born their entire life and all the choices they will make with their "free will" has already happened. God can give righteous judgment and predestine someone because he knew everything about a person before they knew it about themselves. From our limited experience of reality we can never assume what God has chosen for ourselves or each other. We should never try to determine if someone is going to hell or not because we are unable to judge rightly the way God is. Instead we should do as our lord commands and preach the gospel to all men, finding those who receive it.

@@thomashughes4326 Perhaps my explanation leaves open some things that should be explained. I will have to admit that I am not an expert on this topic and I am still learning. I certainly believe that God has the ability to choose freely whomever he wills. I also understand that God is just and would not unjustly send someone to Hell. Of course his ways are higher than mine, and my understanding of things can be flawed. I'm sure when the Biblical authors wrote about these things they had a greater understanding of the topic that has been degraded through both language barriers and cultural differences. I am sure that our salvation is not based on works we have done, but on what Christ did for us. My knowledge on this topic will continue to grow with more study but there are things that may never fully make sense until we stand with him face to face. For now it would probably be best if I stopped thinking out loud in the comments section.

Why not a combination of both? God sees the will of Man outside of time. Therefore He determined to send a deception, but only after leaving the options of grace open to everyone to choose/ reject Him first in their timeframe, respecting their autonomy. He is then still saddened and unwilling to punish, but the perfect Judge must follow through on the moral and spiritual law that was set. It takes nothing away from God's glory to say he allows Man make decisions, but He can and does intervene at certain points, involving certain people, to accomplish His specific plan. Love the biblical references always given in support of the answers given in these episodes. Thank you for speaking God's word above all else.

It also says that no one can come to Jesus unless the Father draws him. Not quite simple.

Jesus also said “ And I, if I be lifted up from the earth, will draw all men unto me.“ and that the Spirit will “And when He has come, “ convict the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment.” Throughout the world whenever the gospel is preached the Holy Spirit convicts men of their sin and the truth of the gospel. Those who respond in faith and repentance are saved while those who harden their hearts and resist the truth will be damned.

@@jesussaves3741 It's difficult to have a fruitful discussion of a Calvinist view of soteriology if you don't understand Calvinism itself. Calvinism as a position holds to human responsibility and Divine foreordination. On a surface level these doctrines contradict, but they are both clearly taught in the Bible, and not entirely irreconcilable beyond our experience. Consider Hamlet's soliloquy. How much of was Shakespeare and how much of it was Hamlet? It was 100% both. "You will say to me then, “Why does he still find fault? For who can resist his will?” But who are you, O man, to answer back to God? Will what is molded say to its molder, “Why have you made me like this?” Has the potter no right over the clay, to make out of the same lump one vessel for honorable use and another for dishonorable use? What if God, desiring to show his wrath and to make known his power, has endured with much patience vessels of wrath prepared for destruction, in order to make known the riches of his glory for vessels of mercy, which he has prepared beforehand for glory- even us whom he has called, not from the Jews only but also from the Gentiles? As indeed he says in Hosea,“ Those who were not my people I will call ‘my people,’and her who was not beloved I will call ‘beloved.’” “And in the very place where it was said to them, ‘You are not my people,’ there they will be called ‘sons of the living God.’” And Isaiah cries out concerning Israel: “Though the number of the sons of Israel be as the sand of the sea, only a remnant of them will be saved, for the Lord will carry out his sentence upon the earth fully and without delay.” And as Isaiah predicted, "If the Lord of hosts had not left us offspring, we would have been like Sodom and become like Gomorrah.”" - Romans 9

I have come to see this a little differently. As a parent of children... let's say you have multiple children. You want all of them to be successful, providing for themselves, independent of you but as they are seperated from you, you have less and less control and say over what they do or don't do. Your influence over them, when they are grown, is completely dependent on their asking for your influence/opinion/help and them choosing whether or not to accept or listen to your advice and "will." I really, really desire all of my children to succeed and I am willing and able to help lead them to that success, even when it's hard, even when they make mistakes... as long as I'm breathing, and as long as my kids want me around, I will be available to them, not to enable destructive behavior or lifestyles, but to help them live the best life that I feel that they can live. But it is entirely up to them to listen/not listen.... do or do not do. I might have a child that is extremely receptive to what I say and do and flourishes and I might also have a child that never listens or never asks and does their own thing and reaps the consequences. Now I am not God... I am a fallible human and my advice isn't always perfect and maybe the one who doesn't listen ends up doing so much better than I thought they would and it was better that they didn't listen to me. But our Heavenly Father IS perfect and His heart to help us is even greater than ours for our children... but He had placed the choice in our hands. He knows what evil people will choose and plans accordingly, to further His glory. He hardens hearts and sends delusions, but it does not say He hardens a heart that would have otherwise been open to Him.. it's implied that the heart that is hardened was already hard. The ones who were sent delusions were also already deluded. We're either lost or found, saved or damned... we either love God and listen to Him or we hate Him and have no desire to hear of Him. If your child has no desire to hear from you and hates you... don't you still love them? Wouldn't you still do anything you possibly could to help, heal and restore them to you? That is the real cost of the cross. He wanted ALL to come to Him, but with our free will He knew that not all would. This is the cost of free will. This is the cost of the cross. He saw what it would take to have a true people for Himself.... how many people would have to live in pain.. how many people would suffer... how many people would reject Him.. He saw every evil thing that would ever happen... every evil that people would do, some even while proclaiming His name. He saw all of this on the earth.... and He made it anyway. WHY??? Because of us that would choose Him. He saw us from the beginning. And He said we were worth all of it. He is just. He is loving. He desires all, and paid for all... but He also decided not to override our free will, because He wants our relationship to be genuine and unspoiled. He is the Most High... that means, by nature and definition that ANYTHING OTHER THAN HIM is LESS THAN HIM. Just by being other --- we are less... that is how evil entered creation. God made another. Therefore every possibility of evil now exists. My children are different from me. We have things in common... but they are different. They are going to choose things I wouldn't choose and they wouldn't choose some of the things I choose. I still love them.. I love them in spite of their differences and I love them BECAUSE of their differences. If I could only love a child that was exactly like me then it wouldn't be them that I was loving... it would be myself. How can we all be so utterly different from God and also be able to be with Him for all of eternity??? THE REDEMPTION OF THE CROSS!!!! The cross, takes something that began broken and imperfect and makes it whole and perfect. We will be like Christ, but also keeping our individual identities for all of eternity. You will have your body, but GLORIFIED. You will still be you.. but even more you than you are now because you won't be weighed down by pain, sin and disease. You will be free to worship your King for eternity.. with your unique voice... with your unique song that only you can sing with your entire being.. because only you fully know all that He did in you to get you there by His side. We'll get to hear the songs of others and sing our own song too... Hallelujah!!!! Praise God and thank you anyone for reading.. I'd love to hear your thoughts as I respect John Piper so much and his followers are surely a bright, spirit-filled bunch!

Hi Jess, grace and peace to you 🙏🏻 I think the analogy you used is leaning towards a synergistic view of salvation where God works with us in effecting salvation i.e God provides the means to salvation (through Jesus) and then man has to decide whether or not to receive the offer. The problem with that view is that it makes man sovereign instead of God because in the final analysis, your work (of receiving Chris) was the decisive factor of your salvation. Yes, man has free will in a sense that we have the faculty of choosing e.g. you can choose what clothes to wear, what food to eat, etc. but when it comes to making moral choices e.g. choosing between good and evil, we are far from free because we are in bondage to sin. Romans 3:10 says “there is no one righteous, not even one. There is no one who understands. There is no one who seeks God.” Because of the fall, we no longer have the capacity to choose God on our own. The only way we will turn to Him is when He sends the Holy Spirit to change us, and give us a disposition to follow Him. Thus, making our salvation a monergistic work, meaning God is the author of salvation from beginning to end. We have no contribution. To be sovereign is to have full control. God is sovereign and has full control over His creation. He has chosen before the creation of the world those who will be saved. He chose them not because He saw what people would do, but He chose them according to His good pleasure (Ephesians 1:4-5)

Sorry . There is no redemption in the Cross because there never was a cross. It was a pole vertically put into the ground. And Yahshua never was king of the jews, because the word never existed untill 1611 in the NKJV. He was leader of the Nazerios, The Nazerene movement . The two who were folterred with him was two of the same movement. YAHUSHUA CAME only for the Lost Sheep The Father YaHWeH gave him in John 17. He did not come for the world. The Farisees and Scribes made conversions of nations who were eve suppose to be converted because even YaHSHUA said, woe to you farisees and scribes who go over land and see to make one convert, who makes those in turn twice a person in hell.

If he did that then your love for him would not be genuine. You would only be a well-programmed robot. God created you to know him. He didn’t create you for hell and he created a mechanism for you not to go there. God did not create robots. That wouldn’t benefit humanity. God created humans that can choose. He didn’t put them in an absolute sterile environment without other options or they might as well be robots. The fall of Adam was not a shock or surprise to an omniscient God. The death of Jesus, his son, was not plan B. The creation of mankind is his most generous act secondary only to man’s redemption. God had to create a person that was capable of choosing and had a will of his own, if he were to impart the ability to freely choose him or tell him to “piss off”. Salvation by faith in Christ’s death and resurrection is the mechanism by which a man can choose to subject his will to his creator’s will - and have nothing to boast of. Doing so, he receives forgiveness of sin, eternal life and the indwelling of the Holy Spirit to provide fellowship with his creator. It is the perfect plan to create creatures that are not robots, who have choice, whose will is not violated and then share himself with them. The atheist cries, “God’s mean.” “God takes no pleasure in the death of the wicked but that the wicked turn from his way and live.” Ezekiel 33:11 *He isn’t rejoicing that some go to hell.* “God is not willing that any should perish.” II Peter 3:9 “God would have all men to be saved and come to the knowledge of the truth.” I Timothy 2:4 “God is the savior of all men, specifically those that believe.” I Timothy 4:10 “For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son so that whoever would believe in him should not perish but have everlasting life.” John 3:16 Do you want to know how to be born again? Acknowledge to God that he is right and you aren’t Trust that he sent his son to die in your place, and was resurrected from the dead. Turn from your sins If you genuinely do those things you will be born again. Otherwise he has no other option but to send you to a place that he doesn’t want you to go and created a way for you to escape. *this was not written with in mind. It outlines for the unbeliever why God can’t do what you describe.

I appreciate referencing both possible approaches to this difficult topic. I must say Arminianism seems to be the approach that equates “God is love”. In order to have love you must have free choice. Thus God desires all to be saved just and yet all are not are in agreement. As a groom loves his wife but what kind of marriage is a forced marriage vs how beautiful is a marriage with both turning by their own free will towards each other. So Jesus will come for his bride. It is still by his grace that we are saved and even by his divine strength does he give enough clarity for us to choose whether to take the forbidden fruit or not in such moments otherwise we would be overrun by satan who if he has his way would give no such choice.

Do you mean that God gives his grace and clarity about Himself only to the people who decided to accept or give a thought on Him due to their free will (something like only if the seed is sowed out of free will, God will water it). And doesn't give grace or clarity about Himself to people who never thought about Him even with their free will (didn't or couldn't sow the seed, therefore God will abandon them). Or is it like a lucky draw; like, to random people God decides to give grace and clarity and therefore save them?? But God gives his grace and clarity to EVERYONE, right? As it is said in romans 1:20 God is constantly revealing himself to EVERY SINGLE ONE so that everyone is accountable on the day of judgement. Also he is the GOD of no partiality. So it doesn't fit the characteristics of God to say that he predestined on whom to give his grace and clarity, right?? Cause its kinda terrifying to think that God show himself to only certain people!!

All you are doing here is equating a libertarian view of free will with the biblical view. To be free is to be united to the good, freeddom is not merely the ability to choose from ones sovreign will, if tgis was the case the murderer (who acts of his own "free will") would be free amd the saint (who acts in accordance and obedience with ultimate goodness) is a slave. No person freely chooses hell, they are either tricked or living under a delusion. To say that God "respects free choice to send oneself to hell" is lieka dfatger walking into a kitchen, seeing their child about to throw themselvesin the oven and saying "well i respect that childs free choice. No the good father rushes in he does not respect the childs "free will". So God who is the ultimate father (and yes our fatherhood can be equated with Gods more perfect fatherhood), if he where to respect our choices would be respecting a delusion but not we as people.

The trouble is if we take God's will as absolute, as in, "My word will not return to me void" and "I will accomplish what I desire" or (accomplish my pleasure...absolutely and unfailingly) then it should follow that all (humanity) should be conformed to His will and ultimately be saved. Universal reconciliation is heresy in some circles, but it does seem to be more appropriate given what He says of himself and what he desires. Also when speaking of Pilate and Jews conspiring to "murder Jesus" seems more like forcing the situation meaning free will acts by so called conspirators wouldn't be freely willed at all but compulsory, making it not murder and so none would be guilty. If you say God foreordained the event, predestined or predetermined it, that means the outcome was decided before any conspiring Jew or Pontius Pilate was born and they also had no choice to do anything other than what God authored them to do. If not, you presuppose Jesus' crufixion could possibly have not have happened meaning all of humanity would never have the possibility of being saved. So to talk of Pilate and Jews having the blood guilt of the murder of the Son of God breaks down on many levels of logic.

Thank you sir for this. I just find it hard to agree with the examples you chose to make your points because more context needs to be provided to understand who are "the wicked" and why some are not saved and unable to see the truth. I agree that there is duty vs. policy or two types of wants (Will of Decree/sovereign will vs. will of command/moral will). However, I believe it was our choice to be rebellious, which caused God to withdraw His presence from us (as a result of His holiness). This allows for darkness to reign down on us because we are no longer under His wing, find refuge in Him or wearing the armor of God for the disillusionment of this world to have any effect on us. This is why we fall even further away from God into darkness and condemnation and it is only by grace we are able to to find our way again to God. Please correct me where you think I'm still not getting it. The examples you give: 1. Ex. 20:16-- thou shall not lie vs. 2 Thes 2:10-- people REFUSE to love the truth so God sends them into a strong delusion that results in their condemnation --- WE FIRST rejected the truth and turned away from God. God didn't cause our disillusionment because that is what He willed. This is just a consequence of our choice to be rebellious. ---- Similar argument made in Romans 1:24-26 --- the only reason why we gave up what is natural for what is unnatural. We chose not to accept the truth and worship God. As a result, this gave way for our condemnation. 2. Ezekiel 43:11- no pleasure in the death of the wicked, but repentance vs. Isaiah 11:4 - God will kill the wicked. + Deut. 32:39 - kill & give life, wound & heal, no one can be delivered from His hand --- The verse from Isaiah is a prophesy still to happen. There are still righteous people being killed and persecuted while the wicked live and enjoy. I feel like a stronger verse talking about what is rather than what is still to come would have strengthened your argument. ---- The verse in Deuteronomy, in context, talks about the wicked being God's people, Israel. They were wicked and for this they are being punished and seeing so much calamity. Those who receives God's favor are His servants who tried to warn Israel of their rebellious ways and their need to return to God in order to prevent their total destruction. Yes, God kills and gives life, wounds and heals, but it all is a consequence of our actions, but still with the desire to correct and bring us back to Him. 3. Lamentations 3:32-33- doesn't want to cause grief but compassion ---- He causes grief because He punished us for our rebellious ways and rejection of His truth (vs. 1-3). His wrath, as a result of our rebellion, causes us to walk in darkness (a life without Him/no light = darkness). Yet, through all the brutal pain we go through as the chapter continues, we still rejoice in God's compassion and mercy. "No one is cast off by the Lord forever." He wants us to REPENT in order that we can return back to Him and no longer be in the darkness/without the truth. All to say, unless I'm wrong, our rebellion and rejection of the truth causes the withdrawal of God. We see how none of our idols can save us and that our life is condemned without Him. As a result of God's love, compassion, grace, and mercy, He is never far from us, but hopes that we can find our way back to Him again where we see the way, truth, and light.

@@rocketsurgeon1746 Hi Rocket Surgeon. I areal appreciate you reaching out to me. God has a Name HEgave to Moses(Moshe- Hebrew) . That NAME IS YHWH pronounced YaHWeH. I have all the information I can forward to you. Secondly HE has a remnant on earth. Thirdly The Roman Catholic Church through the help of the Descemdants of the Edomite Tribe, who infiltrated the Synagogues back in 167 BC when the Maccabees defeated them. Instead of banning them, the Maccabees (Priests of Judah) allowed them to stay among them. Who are the Edomites you would ask? They are the descendants of Esau. Esau married the daughter of Ishmael, which was against the law of YaHWeH. That is why in the Bible , who is really only the message for the remnant of the Real IsraEL to YaHWeH from Jacob(IsraEL) , it says Jacob YaHWeH loved and Esau He hated. And the word LORD which means Baäl was put into the Bible to confuse the remnant of YaHWeH. In Jeremiah 23 it states that the leaders of IsraEL back then also confused the people of YAHWEH back them to make them forget YaHWeH's Name by changing it to Baäl(LORD). This was the worl of the Roman Catholic Church to take the Old Hebrew scriptures and to put their own lying words in and instead of the message just being for the remnant of IsraEL to confuse everyone and say it is the message for all, which is has never been. Hence Yahushua the real son of YaHWeH expelling in the new covenant( Testament- ) that there will be people coming in his Name and call themselves (Christ) . The name Jesus is derives from Iesus (Pagan god) and Krishna(Christos) another pagan god who was amalgamated by Emepror Constantine in 325 AD at the meeting of Nicea where there was being voted for 150 gods to be the face of the new religion Christendom(which means creaton) Even Hadrian Called them Creatons and these were the priest of the Roman Catholic Church , worshippers of the Sun.

It took the Roman Catholic Church from 1536 untill 1611 to try and keep the confusion over and above. The choice was never the rest of the world's, but only the remnant from IsraEL. The second question is , where did the remnant go after being taken in to captivity to Babylon (Judah and Benjamin) and Assyria (the other 10 tribes )?. The ten tribes that was taken to Assyria emigrated past what you can see as the Caucasian mountains into what is known as Europe today. By the other nations they were known as a different name which comes down to the Sons of Isaac. Before being called Spain and Portugal , the same area was a Called the Iberian Paninsula, which is named after the Sons of Isaac. It is a desire that, separate from carnal or primitive desires is described by james strong as "what one desires or/and has determined to do". The will of God for all men to be saved is intrinsic to his own good and holy nature. It cannot be denied, and WILL come to pass. God said: "... I will do ALL my good pleasure ... " Listen to God. Because if God was really committed to glorifying His sovereign grace, well, what would be more sovereign than simply doing what He desires (that is, saving all people)? I’m not sure if I’m understanding correctly, but what I’m hearing is, “God’s sovereignty is limited by His commitment to His sovereignty,” which seems contradictory. To say He wants to do something and then He doesn’t do it is not a glorification of His sovereign grace, but a mockery of it.

For the longest time I blamed God (when I was still an unbeliever) for every bad thing that happened to the world and to me, not at all seeing all the good that has been done in His name. I'm so glad and grateful that He kept trying to get my attention and though it took a long time for me to finally willingly surrender to Him. (I was so hard headed and wanted to do everything my way and boy, did I have bad choices)

The unbelievable pride of lucifer. And the fact that God allows the devil to think he could best Him. The Omnipotent God. Lucifer is much closer to mankind than he is to God. God could snap His finger and make the entire universe angels and humans disappear and reform it from scratch in an instant if He wanted to. There is no cap on His power or wisdom. Some humans have the same hubris. Think they know better than God. I try to take the Word at face value and understand some things are beyond me.

The only thing I can think of here is that God wants something more than saving all sinners. Maybe it is showing us his Glory in Mercy and Judgement. God is love and God is absolutely just, and I trust him. Hell is very frightening place and I pray with all my heart for salvation. For God to show his mercy there must be a backdrop of Sin. To be honest I do find this very hard to understand but in the end I trust my soul to Jesus Christ.

The "all" has to be taken in the greater context which is "those who are chosen". All pertains to the elect through the start to finish history of mankind. I will have mercy upon whom I will have mercy. Only God knows who His elect are.

God is most committed to saving all. However, it has to be done legally within the laws of God. Saving by force is called "filthy lecure" in Scripture. It means gaining something unjustly. Using any type of force, control, or domination is witchcraft and completely against God's nature. His will is to save all justly and honestly. That includes giving the high price of the Life of God Himself for your ransom. All that freely come will be saved.

What is the Calvinist interpretation of: "And I [Jesus], when I am lifted up from the earth, will draw all people to myself." (John 12:32)
@davidrs91
@davidrs91 17 дней назад
Calvinists would argue, in the context of the passage which is non-Jews coming to Christ, "all people" = both Jews and non-Jews. This is as opposed to the universalist idea that "all people" will be irresistibly drawn to God (which would be equally counter to free will.)

John 3:19-21 19 This is the condemnation, that that light came into the world, and men loved darkness rather than that light, because their deeds were evil. 20 For every man that evil doeth, hateth the light, neither cometh to light, lest his deeds should be reproved. 21 But he that doeth truth, cometh to the light, that his deeds might be made manifest, that they are done according to God.

short answer: He doesn't really want to. Granting "free will" gets precedence over his plan to only birth people into his belief. Furthermore God forces disbelievers and misbelievers out. Or as the bible puts it "God hardens their hearts". Our God is to be feared for his instruments are punishment and condemnation.

Arminians don’t believe in ultimate self determination. We believe in prevenient grace, which is stating that no man can come to God unless God moves first. It is inaccurate to say that man can come to God without grace. Like Calvinist, the Arminian affirms total depravity. We primarily differentiate on limited atonement.

This is only my opinion but god is bound by law. Once Jesus paid the sins of the world, the law was satisfied, basically God the father would be able, willing and hope everyone at that point would come home. Jesus holds the receipt. This is were different beliefs come in, it’s a long story. But I believe it’s all figured out so almost all of us do indeed return home

The Bible does not teach that we have the free will to choose salvation. It teaches that God is the one in control of our Salvation. No one can come to Me, unless the Father who sent Me draws him; and I will raise him up on the last day. John 6:44 And He was saying, “For this reason I have said to you, that no one can come to Me, unless it has been granted him from the Father.” John 6:65 And when the Gentiles heard this, they began rejoicing and glorifying the word of the Lord; and as many as had been appointed to eternal life believed. Acts 13:48 And a certain woman named Lydia, from the city of Thyatira, a seller of purple fabrics, a worshiper of God, was listening; and the Lord opened her heart to respond to the things spoken by Paul. Acts 16:14

There are three choices believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and what he did as enough that you can be saved or believe it was not enough and there's more required to be saved like God having to give you faith to believe or believe that Jesus didn't do what he said he did. God will not force anyone to him. What Jesus did was enough for anyone to be saved. God does not have to give out faith for someone to believe, because that would mean what Jesus did wasn't enough.
