i saw him two weekends ago so i can fully attest to the fact that his acting chops are firing at 100 because he completely transforms himself on stage. the swag is gone, the tats are covered up (obviously) and he's got all the classic ticks and mannerisms that make evan, evan. this video is not at all his rendition of evan when he's on stage. he absolutely killed me with his performance.

I think he would make a good Evan, but he naturally looks confident and all of his other parts (Holden, John) are the chill and confident type so it might be harder for him to pull of an anxious character. But I do want to see how it turns out!

I think when they say he’s “too attractive” they’re not referring to him being too attractive to have social anxiety but to him being too attractive to be super unpopular the way Evan was. Because just in theory, if he pulled up to my school (even with social anxiety) he would definitely get at least a little bit of attention.

It's not his appearance it's the way he naturally looks super cool and confident it's just his aura and also his perfect smooth buttery voice but if you look at his mannerisms, acting and everything else it's great, and would love to see him but in my opinion, Ben Platt is no.1

This video just doesn't work for me. He's 'playing' Evan, but he's not Evan at all. That tat on his arm, for one thing, isn't Evan at all. Sorry. His chemistry with Zoe is zilch. Loved the Ben Levi Ross and Taylor Trench "Only Us" vid from last year so much better.

Gabriel Porto THANK YOU OMG- everyone is like “he’s too cool to be Evan” and “Evan is more awkward” and all that other crap. Like no, Evans story could apply to everyone and anyone, there is no one way to prove it. It’s universal and that’s what I love about this show! Stop trying to make it seem like only an awkward person, or only someone with social anxiety could have this happen. This show is for everybody.

Ashley Z while that is true, anyone can have social anxiety, and saying that someone is too smooth, or too cool, to play someone with social anxiety- it just makes it look like what they’re saying is everyone with social anxiety has to be a certain way, or they *have* to be super awkward. And that’s not true at all. Everyone’s anxiety is different, and it’s unfair to say that because someone is “cool” or because they have tattoos, they don’t seem like someone who can play Evan. Idk, it’s just my opinion

@@andy9160 I get what you're saying, but I don't think someone with anxiety would be this calm or smooth talking to their crush. I will reserve judgement until I see more of his performance, though. It's possible that Jordan will shrug off his confidence and his swagger during the actual play. If he doesn't, it will be a problem.

That’s why for the entire musical I was just pacing in my head questioning every single decision the Evan made, it wasn’t like it wasn’t implausible just messed up

And genuinely that's one of the most interesting things about this show. You want to root for Evan, and a lot of people (myself included) can relate to him. But also, he's making so many decisions, and most if not all are questionably morally grey, you can see he's doing what he thinks he's right but then watching that spiral out of control. It's sort of like watching a train wreck, especially as the second act builds up (particularly around Good For You and then culminating in YWBF Reprise and Words Fail). And it's almost stressful watching it all fall apart.

@@kl-1447 I've actually been in Evan's position before so I understand it. I didn't tell a lie this big, but I have been in situations where someone assumed something and I didn't correct them fast enough. As time passed by, it just became too awkward to say anything. When you are introverted and anxious, it's doubly hard to speak up for yourself. What Evan did was wrong, but I give him grace because none of us are perfect and all of us could use a little grace.

But that doesn't make it ok, and with the movie coming out soon, I hope a lot of people take the time to look at it critically, cause I feel like there's still less nuanced views on it and its going to be kind of messy. It's either Evan did what he had to and everything ended up fine or Evan is in fact the worst and doesn't deserve forgiveness. The truth is that Evan is not a villain nor is he the hero. He's a person who makes a mistake and that mistake spirals and while he shouldn't be blamed for everything, he should face consequences for his actions, and that his anxiety doesn't excuse all of that (which Im not saying it didn't contribute, but I feel like a lot of people are like oh no he's anxious that excuses it and it doesnt) (also I don't think you're saying that either to be clear, I like your nuanced explanation).

@@Kierracore ooh so from what I read, Evan has social anxiety so he really finds it hard to (you don’t know how painful it is for me but anyway) he finds it hard to have normal conversations with other people and that’s the root cause of a lot of his problems. He didn’t have friends at all😢the story is he gets hurt in an orchard (I think) and breaks his arm. He gets that sorted but cause he has no friends no one writes on his plaster so his mom (after he comes from therapy) suggests that he gets one of his friends to write on the cast 🤦‍♀️ He goes to school bumps into Connor in the corridors then later on Connor writes on his cast. His therapist had suggested that he write letters to himself to hopefully makes himself feel better, then he writes a letter to himself but as if his “new found friend” Connor wrote it. Connor finds the letter and gets mad at Evan mainly because his younger sister Zoe is mentioned. Because Evan is anxious and stuff he never says anything to her but watches from afar. Later on Connor kills himself for some reason and then Evans letter is found in his pocket so now it’s like it was a suicide noteor something. Everyone thinks Evan was connors friend and because Connor was not close with his family or anyone else for that matter. Evan goes to connors parents house for dinner they talk he lies about him and Connor being besties and having website where they write letters to each other emails rather. Now everyone is trying to get to know Connor but really it’s all a lie Evan gets help to fix a website from another kid and he manages to lie to everyone. BubblyBrainiac exactly my thoughts! Jordan also cried in for forever when he sings about falling from the tree and that moment honestly broke me. Especially when you’re already familiar with the the story. He brings more tears and like you said fragility to Evan and I am not complaining at all.
