I'd like to see what your team for an Ice type gym would be. Your Dark type gym is really clever and I like it.

The funny thing about Dark type trainers is that they aren't evil at all, they're very nice people. Take Karen for example, or Grimsley.

Honestly, I've had this idea in my head for a while. As a Dark Gym Leader, my gym would be centered around illusions and not trusting what you see. Depending on what point in the story my gym is at, my team could be somewhat unusual, having a unique mechanic where the pokemon I send out are minor legendaries like Galarian Moltres, Singke Strike Urshifu, one of the Ruin legendaries, etc. All dark types. During this time, the battlefield changes depending on what I have out (weather, terrains, etc). But the twist is, at low health, they tranform, being revealed to be Zoruas. (The stats of the legendaries will likely be reduced somewhat, for fairness' sake.) But then it's down to the ace. And here's the funky part. I, the gym leader, walk out into the battlefield. Launching Dark Pulses, Flamethrowers, Shadow Balls, etc. But when I get hit (Focus Sash to prevent OHKO), the illusion is broken, revealing a Zoroark (shiny, for personal reasons). After the Zoroark is defeated, the real me approaches from behind, applauding your victory. Cue badge, TM, etc. What do you think? Too weird?

This is going to be an awesome series; I loved all your ideas for your gym! If I were a Dark Type gym leader, my gym would be one giant dark library room but with giant pink hearts and posters everywhere to confuse newcomers. My gym trainers and I would be wearing the same outfits, and we'd all be scattered across the room so that challengers would have to guess which one is me. They'd get coordinate direction hints after beating each gym trainer, so this puzzle could take forever or challengers might find me almost immediately. My team would be Drapion, Bisharp, Mandibuzz, and Absol My rematch team would have the additions of Tyrannitar and Mega Gyarados, and we'd battle on the roof of my gym so that we don't get the inside of the gym dirty I'd love to see Water types next, but honestly I'd be happy with any type 😁

I think there is one thing you left out: Your signature TM that you would also hand out after the battle. But I assume that it would probably be 'Embargo'. If not, I was thinking either 'Foul Play' or 'Nasty Plot'

You're going Dark types in a castle without Kingambit? You'd have a tough time with Fairy types, especially if they sport Baby Doll Eyes for their own priority.

I really enjoy the idea of being a dark type gym leader myself, dark types being mine favorite type. As for your next gym, how about steel types and being the 5th gym leader? You can go with a blacksmith theme.

I'd have Grimmsnarl, Kingambit, Scrafty, Malamar, Incineroar and Hisuan Samurott. Maybe the gym would look like an abandoned area or somewhere creepy (that doesn't warrant ghosts). I think you should do ELECTRIC next.

Well. Seeing this is unique. I'm definitely interested. As for the next type, why not the Ice type? Among my friends, they say it's easily an underutilized type, next to Fairy, but I still say Ice because lest I'm mistaken, Fairy has been used as a gym/trial/important type for every gen afterward (not counting any remakes). Not to mention that you can get creative with some of the strats and throw in things that can REALLY throw a player for a loo/catch them off guard (whichever one you decide to use).

I liked the team and loved that you stuck to the theme well with your team. Great job. If this is your first entry into this series I think this will be a great one.

I think it would be really cool to see each of your gym ideas for if you were gym 1-8! You mentioned just levelling down your team for earlier gyms, but I would be interested in how the moves and strategies change from gym 1 to gym 8. Ex: Murkrow and Umbreon for gym 1 playing with prankster and wish, gym 2 add in Floragato with Tera Dark etc...

I love these videos. I'm constantly watching your stuff along with many others. You and other PokéTubers have inspired me to make my own videos and I will be starting sooner rather than later. Oh, and I would like to see..... either Fairy or Dragon next.... Fairy as it is the opposite of Dark.

My dark type gym would be a masquerade party as well as mardi gras inspired gym with a black light costume themed puzzle requiring the gym challenger to navigate in the dark while looking for the glowing floor panel that shows the correct path while avoiding the gaze of gym trainers, (I know that sound similar to platinum hearthome gym puzzle but no flighlight but ghost and dark types are very similar anyway so I think it’s acceptable plus gym leaders reuse aspects of past gyms all the time). My team would be meowscarada as my ace (since what else would I use for a Mardi Gras type gym), umbreon for stall, alolan muk for fairy coverage, as well as kingambit for plan b and my rematch team would include mega absol and zoroark My badge would be the Mask badge (I know sounds basic but it’s the shortest one I could think of)

This series in actually interesting. I definitely would like to see more of this in the future. For the next Typing...I dunno, maybe Ice?

Really good video. This is a really fun "What if" exercise for the pokemon world. I personally would lean more into the brutality of Dark Types, but that's probably because Hydreigon is one of my favourite pokemon.

If I were a gym leader, I’d base it more on a zodiac sign than a specific type. For me, it would be Cancer themed. A fully evolved team of: Kingler, Crawdaunt, Kabutops, Klawf, Crabominable and Crustle. Of course, if the trainer doesn’t have the badges to match the level of my full evolved team, then I would rotate to the first stage variants to make it more of a fair matchup.

I had a gym idea almost like this: a gym team that revolves around deception via physical abilities, with my team consisting of a Ditto, who always plays the role as lead, as well as a Zoroark(Taking the form of Mimikyu), a Crobat that makes use of it's speed and flinch moves, and a Mimikyu ace. I even had a cheeky idea where if you lost the first time around, but at least saw that I had a Zoroark as my second pokemon, I would swap around the order of my team on the next go, where I instead send in my REAL Mimikyu as the second pokemon, instead of a disguised Zoroark. I might even taunt the player a little if they use a fighting type move on my Mimikyu, expecting it to be my Zoroark. As you can see, I was less worried about being a type specialist, and more concerned with the theming.

Yeah dark type gym leader has been introduced in gen 8 after a long time but after that gen 9, gamefreak said shut up we don't need it again.

I'm currently working on making a pitch black maze in Pixelmon for my dark type gym. I'm also thinking about specializing in double battles since most of the other gym leaders are planning on doing singles. I think it would fit the theme to be as frustrating as possible xD

three years ago there was a facebook post going around where you were given a type and had to make a gym team out of that type. I got dark and although the team was horrible, I decided to update it this year with newer pokemon. I originally had Poochyena, Mightyena, Houndoom, Honchkrow, Sableye and Tyranitar. I Kept Mightyena, but added Absol, Drapion, Skuntank, Overqwil, and Kingambit, making sure to take advantage of his Supreme Overlord ability.

My Dark Gym would be the 7th Gym. The gym leader would be the owner of a Hotel/Resort (Casino). Gym leader is in early 40s,white male, wears a white suit red tie, darker hair slicked back. Team is: Zoroark Grimmsnarl Liepard Kingambit Rematch team/full team: Zoroark Mobosstiff Grimmsnarl Absol Liepard Kingambit

Overall solid video as per usual. However, I think it would be a nice addition to possibly do types per region. Since dark wasn’t available in Gen 1, perhaps what kind of dark type gym leader you’d be in Johto, Hoenn, Sinnoh, etc. Possibly do it by game for each type as well? Just a thought 🤷‍♂️

I have a silly idea for a Flying type Gym Leader that I've been wanting to try for myself for a while. 1) It's a Double Battle. 2) The team is the four forms of Oricorio. 3) All of them know Revelation Dance, Quiver Dance, Tailwind, and Air Slash. The intention of this team is to take advantage of the Dancer ability. Since Revelation Dance changes type depending on your primary type, that means each Oricorio has a different type advantage. Spamming Revelation Dance with both Oricorio on the field results in each target being hit twice with two different types (presumably). Throw in Quiver Dance and Tailwind, and that's a dangerous combo. And just for fun, let's throw in Terastallization for good measure.

Do you think you'll do an elite four version of this after this series ends?

just remember one thing, if you are a gym le4ader or an npc in general in pokemon games, you aren't allowed to switch pokemon, so keep that in mind when making a team

My dark type gym would be the 5th or 6th gym in the region. You enter my gym, but it appears to be empty,not even a gym guide to greet you. All the gym is a black floor lit up by a red ominous glow, which creates a maze of scary looking shadows. If you ask around town, a few of the NPC's will say that although my gym may appear empty, there is always something watching. With that piece of advice, you head back into my gym and start making your way to battle mat. The trainers in my gym will jump out of the shadows to surprise you, each giving you a warning before and after the battle.. These trainers will use Houndour's, Murkrow's, and Mightyenas. After defeating a trainer, you can go through the shadow, which will send you to another point of the maze. You make it to the battle mat, but I'm not there. You walk to the back of the mat. That's when you hear a sinister laugh. "Hahahahaha." The screen goes black. It comes back to a close-up of you with me right behind you. "You didn't listen to the warnings." You jump suddenly and face me. "The only way to leave now is by victory or defeat." The battle will then start, and I will use 4 Pokemon. The first Pokemon I send out is Houndoom, Straight from the start of the battle, I'm using a fully evolved Pokemon. The moves it knows is Scary face Feint attack Dark pulse Aerial ace But houndoom can't learn aerial ace or scary face. You're right it is actually a Zorua. The next Pokemon is Umbreon, Umbreon does what it does best, defend. Its moveset consists of Toxic Torment Confuse ray Payback After Umbreon, I will send out honchkrow, which knows Wing attack Night Slash Thunder wave steel wing And finally, I send out houndoom (the real one) Since you knew it was coming from the start You're obviously prepared, well, so am i. Hopefully, my previous pokemon have done a good at posioning and paralysing your pokemon. My houndoom’s moveset consists of Thunder fang Dark pulse Flamethrower Nasty plot Once you win, I will yell, cut! That is when the lights will come on and reveal my whole gym was a movie set, which is what all the NPC's meant when someone is always watching. "That was a great shoot. Well done. I hope I didn't scare you too much. As proof of your victory, I will give you the ruse badge as well as the ™ for Dark pulse.

If I'm a Dark type gym leader, I'd go for a mafia style, go with the trope of the mob boss who looks after the community in a lot of ways (look up Al Capone and his soup kitchens for an example), the badge would be the spade symbol from cards with the dark type symbol in the middle, as for the gym challenge, would be talking with different trainers in a room to find out who has a key to the next, at first it'd be as easy as asking and battling them for the key, but then it gets challenging by requiring you to either get them a specific item for a favor or asking the right series of questions, finally you get to me and like Grant from X and Y, I'd have two aces technically, Honchcrow and Mabosstiff with Pangoro, Incineroar, Sableye, and Overquill, feel free to remove and devolve any of them, that would be my rematch team, with Mabosstiff, Incineroar and Overquill all having intimidate to just destroy any physical attackers, especially with a prankster Sabley, holding light clay, with Reflect, Light Screen, Will-o-wisp, and an attacking move like Night Slash or Shadow Claw

Do a Fairy type gym leader next. How I'd run the gym is make it make my gym double as a theme park to show that Fairy type pokemon and rides have a something in common, they're both enchanting and thrilling, and my arena would be a merry-go-round.

Me and my Friends did this. We each picked different types and battle each other. I got Dark, Fairy, Flying, and Normal. It was tons of fun and it would be better with all the new pokemon since we did in Gene 6.

If I had to be a Dark-type gym leader, I'd consider using Houndour(level 23), Galarian Linoone(level 24), and Sandile(level 25). If I was a Dark-type gym leader that could use a full team, I'd consider running Malamar, Unovan Zoroark, Houndoom, Krookodile, Grimmsnarl, and my ace Obstagoon. For the record, this would be the eighth gym for a hypothetical region. In addition to the Pokémon previously mentioned, my post game rematch teams, which would change with each rematch, would choose amongst Tyranitar, Kingambit, Mandibuzz, Hydreigon, Mabosstiff, Sableye, Alolan Muk, Morpeko, and Bombirdier.

Fun fact: Skelidirge is the first non Bipedal final starter pokemon since samurott in gen 5

1. Have there been any gyms with starter Pokemon? 2. Gym leaders really do need to have defensive and--if possible--STAB coverage for the original team, not just the rematch team. Technically Murkrow would count, but not very well if you're not using it for that purpose. Think Elesa's Emolga, Tulip's Farigiraf and Gardevoir, or Valerie's Mawile. The whole idea is that you don't get to be a master specialist in a type without being able to deal with your type's counters.

I always liked a themed gym rather than a type gym. For example, rather than dark, the theme could be nocturnal pokemon and then the pokemon used would be a bunch of night time ones. Im thinking umbreon (of course), noctowl, ariados, lycanroc midnight form, and ursaluna. Adds so much type variety but has a clear theme to it.

If I were a Dark type, my gym would be a maze through an abandoned carnival of horrors and attractions. It would unnerve and disorientate challengers; my gym Trainers would pop hp and scare the challenger at random intervals and ask random questions that change daily. If the Trainer gets it right, they get a clue to my whereabouts. If not, they have to fight to get the clue. My team would consist of Umbreon, Houndoom, Mightyena, and Spiritomb.

As a dark type gym leader I’d go for a Grim Reaper aesthetic. Mostly hidden beneath a hooded black cloak. The gym badge would be a pair of scythes crossed over a skull. For the team when first challenged I would have: Murkrow Houndour Carvanha Umbreon For the rematch team I would have: Honchkrow Sharpedo Houndoom Shiftry Umbreon Tyranitar All dark types but most have a different secondary type to help with coverage. I would also have two Mightyena that sit as guard dogs on either side of the entrance to the gym, just to try and unnerve any challengers as they step inside my gym.

Either Steel or Fairy next, because that's all of the non-Gen 1 types. Since you're dark, you should use complex mechanic, like *triple battles* & status ailments. 6:40 - Good idea, but Greninja & Incineroar would provide better type coverage & Tyranitar would hit harder. 8:03 - My theme: Triple Battles & Status conditions Initial team: Zoroark, Incineroar with Incinium Z, Greninja, Meowscarada & Mega Tyranitar Rematch: Hydreigon, Moltres, Spiritomb, Mega Sableye, Gigantamax Urshifu & Darkrai with Darkinium Z

Honestly between prankstar murkrow and zurroak at the verry least the theme is great. Ps a mix of miauscerada, greninja and inceneroar would also have been fun considering thete is a dark type starter for each type.

My Pokemon team as a Dark type Gym Leader would be 1. Crawdaunt, 2. Umbreon, 3. Zoroark, 4. Grimmsnarl, 5. Meowscarada, Incineroar or Greninja (depending on the starter the player chooses) and the Main Pokemon is Tyranitar or Hydreigon (depending on the exclusive version), STAB move is Dark Pulse/ Crunch
