Genetics can come into play. Like on my dads side we naturally have a higher fasting glucose which can lead to type 2 diabetes. Some things are out of your control. There's only so much lack of carbs one can do especially if you have other issues like Autoimmune Disease. Speaking of which. Hashimoto's Thyroiditis often times leads to Type 2 diabetes because the thyroid disease makes your blood glucose and cholesterol higher. So it's NOT just what you eat at all. Far more complex than that.

Hi Tom. After following you for a few years I’ve now fully committed to intermittent fasting and the results are already enough to keep me committed. I’m doing 16:8 for the time being, 5 days per week. I’m already a very active person and enjoy my athletic lifestyle - but my performance has gone through the roof since IF. Coincidence? Maybe. But I don’t think it is. I hit my first sub-20 minute 5K (fasted), my strength has increased, my muscle has increased. My workouts feel more intense (fasted). I’m all in. Thanks for the amazing content you continue to produce. Cheers from England!

Fasting/delayed eating for me has been the best method for discipline and me managing and remaining at my desired weight. Even when I add/remove or go low carb. Daily fasting keeps me on schedule and my cravings or food desires in check. I have a time to eat and a time not to eat and this consistency keeps me well balanced.

What's most interesting about this video is that it lends precisely a sense of perspective on how any one persons diet and/or approach can be so effectively different within the realm of a relatively comparable nutrition plan. When foods become inadvertently absent from your routine (in my case this past week it's been avocado - "ripen at home" haven't..) the absence can point to a significant lack of certain nutrients - I'm guessing this has left me lower on potassium than I would otherwise be.. It's more of a helpful video to keep you mindful of how variations can knock you off in certain ways, so thanks man!

OK, you just described what works for me and what doesn't work for me. We are on the same wavelength or something. Although I best work out on a fasted state, sometimes I become weaker long term which I'm thinking has more to do with the need to increase my rest period. Seed oils screws me up too. Also, don't know if you subscribe to Consumer Lab, however, they test annually the best olive oils (not all EVOO are the same at all!). Love the talk on low glycemic eating throughout the day. Hello Thomas, I enjoyed watching your video and I agree that meat is essential for us humans, the amino acid and mineral profile in plants is lacking compared to meat and eggs, by the way we as humans lack the enzyme cellulase to break down cellulose (plant fiber). I also was plant based for awhile but did supplement with collagen types 1-5 coming from good sources. I too only eat maybe one full on meal a day usually via intermittent fasting but I am trying to break that cycle( depends on what I ate) . I begin my morning with a fasted workout. My question for you is does include a protein shake? Or even a low calorie "protein shake" consisting of unsweetened almond milk and collagen protein. ( Hey maybe I should start doing that again!)

I cannot imagine you being "very very overweight", but I appreciate you sharing your experiences. Moreover, thank you for sharing the brands and foods you consume. You are an excellent example of where I want to be, as a woman, of course. I hated eating meat, and I got away with it for many years. However, not eating meat has gotten me into trouble, and now I have to eat it. Moreover, my mother and my doctors strongly recommended we drink a glass of wine with dinner. Neither of us had ever drank wine or any other alcoholic beverages for that matter. When I tried it, I thought I was going to regurgitate it! How do people become addicted to something that tastes so horrible?

This is a testament to how trial and error through experimentation helps each of us develop our own unique protocols to maximize our individual physiologies; truly, n=1. For me, almost fasted workouts in the AM with just 1 scoop of collagen peptides. I can eat as many carbs as I want midday/early afternoon without bloating or fatigue if I take 1/2 tsp of ceylon cinnamon. Low carb, high protein and fat in the evenings. Berries all day. Cottage cheese before bed. It's amazing how you find things that make your own body thrive that will make another individual bloated, inflamed, and sick. Glad you found your path, I hope this video inspires others to experiment and tweak their routines to ultimately find their own. Great content as usual TD!

I experience the same thing with Carbs, Thomas. I cannot keep eating meal after meal with lots of slow carbs because I get bloated after a few days almost like I feel sick. This despite walking around with great sugar level generally (usually around 5.2 , sometimes as low as 3.6) thanks to IMF and loose LCHF. The IMF has rapidly improved my insulin sensitivity I guess (2 months) BUT I really never get totally fat adapted. I try to eat high protein low carb but if I push it too far (such as eating mainly chicken and cheeze for 3 days) my glycogen storage slowly depletes. Last time this happened I was at 3.6 blood sugar and then I do a huge carb refill in one swoop. This occurs maybe one a week. I am talking like 600 gram of candy plus 150 gram of cookies just to quickly get my carb storage back. I meisured my blood sugar after thus sugar intake a while after and I just reached around 5.5 which is still a low value if you have eaten something. Big note of course is I do some very intense workouts every other day that makes the muscle easily soaking up every gram of sugar once I get depleted. After refill I go back to imf, low carb again.

But now I do what he says to do… “listen” to your body. So those morning I get up and feel hungry I give a little something or I eat my OMAD and flip my day. It’s working well for me and my total gym and body weight calisthenics have also truly taken it to another level. I’ve busted past that 20+ lb weight lose and I’m losing more again while getting lean and more defined. Soon I’m guessing the weight will plateau again and I may gain weight due to muscle mass. It’s all in how I look and feel. Not gonna obsess on the scale weight.

In terms of glucose management, I take Berberine and ALA in combo in the morning prior to breakfast and Cinnulin PF prior to dinner. Berberine has been shown to be as effective as Metformin for Diabetics. ALA is very powerful for insulin sensitivity as well. Cinnamon is an insulin mimetic with nearly the same structure as insulin and the body uses it in the same way and has been shown to reduce insulin release by 10x normal. Has definitely helped with weight loss as it really accelerated once I added these in. Currently down 40 lbs since mid January, 12 lbs in the last month.

@@MrLuis85698 i did write "now i know diet is key" meaning i removed most of refined carbs and now i eat mostly cooked meat and vegetables. My physioteraphist healed my fascia problem so i returned to running, but not as much as few years ago.

can I politely ask Thomas what you mean by fasted exercise in your last video? Completely fasted or do you have some kind of bcaas or eaas etc. before you hit the weights to protect muscle loss or some liquid nutrition like powdered carbs, pre workout etc? Thank you very much Thomas

He means completely fasted. iirc he recommends EAAs for breaking the fast

I agree with the fasted workout thing. I'm 53. When I workout fasted I feel 10 yrs younger. Late in the day after work, I have to apply the old guy, long built tolerance conditioning.

What is your blood glucose level when on keto and what is it at when you eat 150g carbs a day?

Thomas I'm trying to keep fat as low as possible on keto to cut calories ( have some stubborn fat to lose) but I want to have healthy hormones! Which few fats should I prioritize!?

Thank you, Thomas, I can tell when I need beef, I get ravenous, and start eating everything in sight. I recently moved to Germany and it is so hard to get fish here, I do notice a huge difference in my fish protein intake

Hey also a Immigrant in Germany here and coming from the English coast I really did miss really fresh fish , The freezer is your friend here, go to one of the big supermarkets and get frozen even the fish on the fresh counter isn't as fresh as I'd like and often frozen fish is flash frozen at the point of catching so oddly is fresher.

It's not the saturated fat itself that is the problem, it's combining it with carbs.

I thought you mentioned in one of the previous videos that carbs are OK in the 2nd half of the day ( in moderation, of course)

Training in a fasted state is like a warrior going into battle full steam ahead. Can you imagine a soldier with a stomach full of food going into battle? He'd prefer to go sleep! You are a true warrior! Don't knock yourself.

100% the same here with fasted workouts. Also, without a bunch of food in my guts, I feel like I can 'brace' my core better during lifts and movements... and I'm also not burping or throwing up ;)
