God is light, and in Him there is no darkness (1 John 1:5). The light can exist without the shadows, but the shadows can’t exist without the light. The shadows exist because we as the objects block the light from shining through us and therefore there is darkness in this world. The only way the light can create darkness is by His absence and not by His nature. If you want the light to shine in your life, let the light shine through you first.
The light being God the Son Christ, he did create darkness to show us the difference between light and darkness. For darkness is this liar's paradise called earth, where the upper-half of society hoards all the land, wealth and political power, where the 50% working poor do nothing to help the homeless.

Morality is indeed relative, different cultures have different sets of morality and it has certainly changed and evolved throughout history. I consider stoning homosexuals evil but the majority of Saudi-Arabia disagrees with me. Morality is clearly not objective as objective means "independent of the observer. Described in such a way that all observers agree."

I was broken and angry, hated anyone who dared to smile or have plenty of food when I spent days on a hungry stomach. I hated God, would tell him sometimes...but one day I realised it wasn't his fault that my parents and the community at large was dysfunctional. They decided to be that way. God says, share with others so nobody has extra and nobody is in need...Being in God I have learnt that I dont have to carry the shame.I try to be the best mom to my 7year old. I here by no means try to minimize other people's pain, hence I said we dont know why God allowed evil but we do know that he is against it. It seems like to me, many people still have a problem with this answer of "free will". Because they will say, "God didn't really give us free will. Because he really didn't give us free choice. If we do believe we go to heaven. If we don't, we go to hell? How is that a choice?!" Ironically a choice is anything where there is more then one option. So truly it's the fact that they like neither choices- the fact that people want to literally be able to choose and CHOOSE THE OPTIONS THEY CHOOSE FROM. For them the choice isn't enough. That's why I think their actual qualm is. The fact they have to decide between choices they didn't choose. And that force of choice makes them feel oppressed. But if we were to say, the courts must choose. People would be fine with it. (They might be upset with a Court's decision. But they'd agree it was in due process. Or they'd appeal to another court.) Regardless, I find that people who argue against God by saying he's unloving because we have no choice- yet similarly our state and human laws give us limited choices as well is... Well.. anyway They rather govern themselves, friends. That's what I've gathered.

Now there could be the choice of ice tea or no tea at all. But with eternity, there is only heaven or hell, we don't get to make up the rules. We can't say there is a heaven or nothing at all. Atheists want to make up the rules, but unfortunately, there are spiritual rules that we have no control of just like there are natural laws we have no control of. We can't choose for a year to have 5 seasons, a day to have 26 hours, or an ocean to be filled with fresh water.

When I think of suffering, I remember God Himself became flesh and suffered on the cross on my behalf. If He can do it, so can I in Jesus’s mighty name.

If we're talking about suffering that is not caused by men (earthquakes, tornados, floods, avalanches, animal attacks, cancer, bizarre accidents, diseases, volcanos, tsunamis etc.), God cannot be both all-good and all-powerful. If he's all-powerful, he would be able to prevent such unnecessary suffering. If he's all-good, he would want to prevent suffering. God didn't create the devil, he created a holy being who fell by the use of his "free" will. And God says he creates peace and evil in the Bible. But that gets misinterpreted. He created the devil anyway to prove that we truly do have free will. He created those in humanity who He knew would be evil in nature (us all, if we would just simply admit it) to expose the devil in the heavenly and earthly realms. And to show Himself to be the exact opposite of the devil's claims and to show Himself to be all that He says of Himself and that which is written about Him. Him being love, merciful, forgiving, patient, caring, powerful, etc. In heaven there is the book of Life, with all the names of those who will come to God. This thing we call time, is the playing out of why those names that are within are and why the names that aren't, aren't.
But god did create the devil. He is omnipotent and all-knowing, thus, in creating Lucifer and knowing Lucifer would eventually become the devil, he created the devil. In a world of ego-self, love is made vulnerable and thus love suffers. It is inevitable that it will. And to me THAT is the reason why we are here. It is not just for the soul to experience itself for experience's sake (this is not just a game as some allege) but to experience its love and to experience its love under duress when it is being tested to the hilt. The soul is developing and in this context its love is known, is experienced, is purified, be matured. And the soul advances. If the soul was not developing then suffering would have no justificaiton except for the perverse pleasure of somebody who wants to witness suffering for suffering's sake.
Thousands of kids die every day in Africa from drinking dirty water or starvation but god finds someone's car keys or helps them score a goal or pass an exam

The Christian idea is that were never meant to die or experience these pains but that God came down as himself in a rescue mission as Jesus as part of a greater plan that will eventually restore humanity and make all things new. A great deal of our own suffering comes from ourselves in what we think and believe. No one is here on planet earth against their will. Everything is a choice. This goes back to the question regarding 100% completely innocent newborns being born with Cancer, painful incurable diseases, deformities caused by maternal drug use or accidental exposure to radiation or anything else that can hurt a fetus. Based on what we fear and what we believe gives Satan access into our lives to bring evil upon us. Satan takes advantage of unbelievers and their unborn children through their lack of faith and fear. MOST unbelieving and believing parents fear the loss of a child or the birth of an unhealthy or disabled child. This is an open door for Satan to come in and bring the very thing they fear into that persons life. A person may be walking 100% in faith in all areas for their life but one, lacking faith out of fear for that one area of their life and Satan WILL and DOES jump all over that area of fear bringing it about knowing it WILL turn many away from God or further from God. When a person is in fear about something in their life, they tie the hands of God from preventing the very thing they fear. When a person walks in faith without fear, trusting God for what he said he has done and will do for those that believe on him (trust and put their confidence), Satan can NOT bring the pain and suffering upon them. These are NOT just empty words. I live it every day and see it happen in the lives of others every day. There was a time in my life that I feared a number of things in my life and the very thing I feared DID come upon me. We see this same confession made by Job when Satan destroyed his children and livestock. Job 3:25 KJV 25 For the thing which I greatly feared is come upon me, and that which I was afraid of is come unto me. When I came to the realization and understanding that fear, which is doubt and doubt being unbelief was the reason so much pain and suffering came into my life, I made a decision to turn from it and went to the Word of God to see what he had to say about those that walk in the faith of Jesus Christ, trusting him for everything he said and I took a stance on his Word and his Word alone believing what it says and I no longer have to deal with pain and suffering and evil in my life. I have not been sick a day in my life since coming to true repentance and taking a stand on what God said about my health and what he said about evil not being able to come near my dwelling. That dwelling is my body and so where I am, home, work, in the car, on my motorcycle, in the store on the street, etc. my dwelling this there. I don't worry about if my house is locked or not. I have forgotten my workshop wide open for days with all my tools in there and NEVER once does anyone come near to steel anything or do me harm. The People who bore that child need to look at themselves. They can came from genetics. Something we never think about, when we find a mate. GOD will eternally take care of that precious little child.

For those interested: What is the other way of answering the question? Most people who have suffered a loss don't really care about why. For an individual in such a case they quite often just need a hug and a bit of sympathy. They are just sad and or angry over the situation. If why was truly their big concern they probably would have asked why long before they're suffering. An individual thinking logically and not driven by biased or tragic emotions are not looking for and will not respond well to emotional pleas.
We can always do with a reminder that God can be a comforter in suffering. Sometimes we get angry at God for the evil in life because it is close to our heart and personal. But we need to realize that God is the ONE who wants to give us comfort and refuge. It's a relational problem, not an intellectual or philosophical problem.
I often don't question why when I loose something because I care more about how to fix it/ make it better. And a loss isn't always a loss, it's more complicated than that. That sick person may want to be free from their suffering or that person was being saved from something more horrible. We could do well not to be so selfish when we search for answers regarding life sometimes!
And how does he comfort us? This is something that I hear over and over but it makes no sense to me. People always say "let God ease your grief and despair". But how is a god that is unwilling to manifest or communicate with the humans he supposedly loves so much going to ease our suffering? If he refuses to communicate with us via any of our 5 senses then how? It makes no sense. It's like saying thin air loves you so seek comfort in thin air.

That answer also doesn’t really address the suffering aspect of the question. Which admittedly, I struggle with from time to time. One example that always drives me to tears is when children have pain inducing disorders for which we have no explanation or cure. When a child’s entire body has to be wrapped up because their skin is constantly blistered and falling off, I have a hard time understanding why. Why does God allow this if it’s within his power to ease their suffering?

God does ease their suffering, God can either decide to heal that person or chose not too either ways it works out. Now I’m not saying God loves to kill people or even directly kills people because he doesn’t. But let’s say that child dies from said pain. Then they go to Heaven. Or let’s say God doesn’t heal them immediately or not even, but keeps them alive, then they become a stronger person. God still is good, because God is still peace, love, joy, goodness. God has brought me through my lowest. I’ve seen God heal and also not heal.

Great work by Turek, including his sensitive recognition at the end that the young woman might have been asking not from an academic perspective but instead the perspective of living through a personal loss or tragedy. However Turek's answer doesn't adequately cover the ground IMO. Free will clearly applies to situations where we experience loss because of the volitional acts of others; it's not clear that free will applies generally to pain and loss caused by acts of nature rather than acts of man, disease or natural disasters for example. God's grace toward us, expressed through Christ's own empathy and suffering, are equally valid, but when we inevitably ask why such things happen I don't think free will is an adequate response.
I may have the answer you're looking for. God is not a god of love, is a lovecraftian horror, and we're just his playthings, pawns in a sadistic game. In fact, he rewards people who are wicked and shows it to you, because cruelty with mockery is twice as cruel, and that's what he wants: to play cruel games with you. I realized that after watching my mother rot in agony for 6 months while God rewarding criminal dictators at the same time. It made me a believer again, in fact. Keep in mind Romans 8:28 - “And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.” Even if if bad things happen God works them all out for good, even if you don’t see that good right away.
And it’s not that horrific if you look at it from an eternal perspective, Frank also talks about that sometimes. Your life here is incredibly short compared to eternity, children go to Heaven (because they’re not able to distinguish between good and evil, that’s why the first humans brought death into the world, because they used their free will to disobey God and ate of the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil [long name]. Children also can’t repent, along with animals, which is why children and animals have no moral responsibility either) so it’s not really a big deal if young children die, they merely change locations, they live on somewhere better than this horrible place, so I’d say that’s a good thing. And sure, if a person who rejects Jesus gets sick and dies they go to Hell, but they chose that for themselves: the problem is that they don’t realize rejecting God also means rejecting His attributes (joy, love, happiness, passion, justice, pleasure, peace, rest etc.) so since Hell is completely separate from God it’s also separate from His attributes and they chose that out of their free will. Hell only has pain, suffering, cold-hearted selfishness, hatred, pride, and everything else evil, that’s what makes it so terrible. And God definitely won’t allow someone to die in February if that person would come to accept Jesus and be born again in June, He’s righteous, He wants everyone to repent and trust Him (2 Peter 3:9)

God has all the power, all the goodness, all the knowledge 'by default'. He hasn't worked hard for it. It's like a 'free fund'. He should also have given these qualities to us by default.

You just pointed out that all bad things don't happen because of men. Maybe God gave free will to bacteria, viruses and replicating cells too. In that case, our world wouldn't have any difference if compared to a world with no god. Maybe such a world makes more sense after all. Also, as the question itself implies, men would have chosen not to let suffering into this world ; in that regard, we didn't choose.
