In the latest edition of "If they were churches" we take a trip though television history and see if some of the best (and worst) sitcom dads were churches.
I love me some Hank, I tell ya whut. Mike Judge's major faux pas was making the Hills Methodist. Are there even Methodist churches IN Texas? Or is Arlen a suburb of Austin? 😁
1:29 Considering that I'm a Presbyterian and the fact that we love the Lutherans more than they love us, this resonates quite a bit. Hilarious comparison lol
And knowing the history of Germany/Prussia, that was definitely a horrible marriage between the Reformed and the Lutherans. What contest in hell indeed! :)
You missed the greatest TV dad -Andy Taylor of Mayberry. He made sure Opie went to All Souls Church (most likely an independent evangelical church: not quite Baptist or Methodist) every Sunday with him and Aunt Bee. Andy taught Sunday school to the boys, Miss Crump taught the girls. Gomer sang the solo during the service. Afterward, Andy went home and honored the Sabbath by relaxing on his porch, singing psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs with his guitar while Opie and Barney and whoever was invited to join them at table waited on Aunt Bee’s pot roast or fried chicken to be ready for an early supper.😊
I got into an argument with my youth minister a long time ago when I said Hank Hill was a good dad. Ironically, that guy would have agreed with Hank in this clip
The ending was spot-on. It's disgraceful the Church's response to a now proven government lie (and obvious at the time) and yet a large majority of the church body followed along like cowards. Fortunately I found a church who fears God and follows the Bible more than government and left my previous Sunday social group ( I won't call them a church) behind.
@michaelclark2458 tell me you learned about non profit status from an uneducated tv dad without telling me 😂 If you can, please explain what's wrong with 501c3. Bonus points if you actually prove it.
@@mikeymcgee1509 if you choose to remain condescending towards your brother in Christ and don’t agree on this issue so be it. Just saying; most, if not all, of the non 501c3 churches didn’t shut their doors in 2020.
@@michaelclark2458 your statement was nonsensical snark, so my response was in kind. If that's too condescending for you then take a long look in the mirror and stay of youtube channels filled with sarcasm. If you care to defend your attack on 501c3 churches with some type of substance I'd be happy to read it.
I didn’t even know any churches remained open during that time and when I tried to explain to people why we should have stayed open people acted like I was speaking a foreign language. People all over the world risk their lives worshipping the Lord but we feared a virus. Don’t we trust the sovereignty of God? Do we not believe our days are numbered and we can’t add to them? I’m nearly 70 and worked the entire time and no I didn’t get the shot. I don’t have a death wish but when I go I go.
Prepare for theology, and make it double! To protect the world from devastation To unite all peoples in our religion To spread the gospel of truth and love To extend our reach to the heavens above Team Presby, take off at the speed of light! Surrender now or prepare to fight!

Gomez Addams is Catholic. Little morbid, well traveled, passionately in love with his wife. Herman Munster is Anglican superficially similar to the Addams but with none of the spirit.
Your lucky. God Bless you brother and don't give the evil one a chance to see some of these. I have cut most of those shows out of my life years ago. I can say that was one of the best decisions ever made.
@@ConversationswithaCalvinist I hesitate between big eva because of Hal tendancy to to stupid stuff because he thinks it's cool or feminist/egalitarian/woke churches because he's constantly bossed around by his wife
You know, I love your stuff, Keith, but the language on this one was a little rough. I could not share it with my whole family like I usually do. Still funny though.
@@ConversationswithaCalvinist I re-listened carefully. My guesses: - sarcastic angry characters overall, lending a meaner tone (I delighted in it, but it might be too abrasive for kids) - "Amazonian master-hood" could be heard wrong? - "What contest in h---"
@@deannaprince7954 thank you for relistening and your input. You are right, he did say hell, but I didn’t bleep that one because I thought it was more being used like the place rather than the curse word. Good thoughts though, again thank you!
@@ConversationswithaCalvinist you're welcome! I fully agree. I didn't hear it as a curse, but as the actual place. It was the 2nd listen, w/a critical ear, that I heard it. My opinion: DON'T bleep h***, as it's critical to the joke, & being used appropriately. Also: this is a well-done & hilarious skit, but not for young innocent ears. The tone is adult, meaning blunt & rude, in a relationally appropriate way. I really enjoy your friendly way of poking fun. I don't know what Harbor Freight is, or who Doug Wilson is, but I get the meaning of the joke, and I like it. Thank you!
