All Jesse does is add emotional bitchy conflict. He fucks everything up with his feelings. He’s the reason everything goes wrong with gus, and is the reason hank is able to catch Walt. I’m very curious where the show would’ve went without him, would be cool to see different types of conflict

@@nav5738 “crazy ideas like Walt keeping Tuco imprisoned to torture him” Yeah, but if I recall correctly, Walt was going to torture him in response to Tuco killing Jesse, so it makes sense to not have Walt keep Tuco as a torture victim. Although I generally prefer that original plans are followed, making the decision to keep characters alive is generally always better because once you kill off a character, there’s no coming back. (Besides, this is Jesse we’re talking about.) If a character like Jane has to die, then I prefer that death to be milked for all its worth. Otherwise, Jane (and her death) feels like she was a lemon that was partially squeezed before being tossed into the rubbish heap. (As Mike would say, “No more half-measures.”) That’s one of the reasons why I really wish Vince had Walt deliberately inject Jane with more heroin. (Another reason is because, as Vince even commented, there are way too many fans who still unironically support Walt as the hero.)
@unconcernedcitizen4092
@unconcernedcitizen4092 2 года назад
@@mechadoggy Just “milking a death” is terrible writing. As he said, that wouldn’t fit season 2 Walt at all. The guy wasn’t a cold-blooded killer yet. He was conniving, but he wasn’t going around murdering people with his own hands. It would have objectively been a massive breach of his character.

I think what is truly special about breaking bad is the unique take on the perversion of the student teacher relationship arc. Walt is a truly inspired teacher brimming with motivational skill and focused insight. I think the reason Walt remains a compelling character throughout the show is because even when he's pulling off serious criminal moves he still kind of reminds you of your oddball 4th grade math teacher. Poor jesse, trapped in Heisenberg's demented class forever.

Walt's manipulation skills are just off the charts... But seriously, I like this scene because they set up the scene so both Jesse and the viewer finally start to see through Walt's bullshit, and it almost comes off as embarrassing for Walt by the time Jesse is just ignoring him and walking away and he is literally yelling! And if I remember correctly, this is the first time anyone ever just completely saw through Walt's methods until Mike started really clashing with him.
@woah5333
@woah5333 6 лет назад
tankmaster1018 I actually think Walt is speaking his mind here. The death of a child is just too negligible for the criminal mastermind heisenberg. He believes his road to his empire is inevitably gonna cause collateral dmg. That's how egotistical and selfish he is. And if he was healthy enough to see his act is intolerable to ppl with half conscience, he would've at least tried to act like he regretted instead of saying bunch of bs that jesse doesn't care.
@tankmaster1018
@tankmaster1018 6 лет назад
But listen to how he's talking to Jesse... He's like "You know what? I trust you enough to set you up with your own lab, your OWN cook!" to try to appeal to his sense of wanting to do something with his life. Then when Jesse starts to refuse, Walt goes straight for the jugular with the "what have you got? Nothing... At least until you relapse again!" I see your point, but this is defiantly not Walt just speaking his mind, because if that was the case, the gist of the speech would be more along the lines of "so what a kid died? More probably will before were done, but I don't care. Not stop complaining and do the only thing your good at!" Instead, every single word Walt said was finely calculated, and you see him switch strategies at least 3 different times when his other ones fail.
@woah5333
@woah5333 6 лет назад
tankmaster1018 I think he's just saying what he wants here and didn't really grasp or care enough to see what jesse wants. They had been through so much and there isn't really much reasons for heisenberg to care. He's so numbed by the dmg he caused. (plane crash was a big one) And stopping because of one childs death maybe seem irrational from his point of view at that point. But jesse just doesn't want anything of it. He only wanted money from the start, maybe some companionship with Walt, but that walt he liked was gone anyway. That's why I don't think it's very much of a manipulation from him here.

You can admire qualities in evil people without admiring the whole of the person. You can admire Walter's strength in accepting who he is, evil, and following his dark star to its utmost, embracing his own tragic fate and 'going all the way.' You can admire that strength and reject the rest of Walter. Certain evil people have admirable qualities, that's just the way it is. And it goes the other way. Certain good people have loathsome qualities.

@@zusty9589 You should read Jung. The Shadow contains our enantiomorph, a dark reservoir of our unconscious instincts. These evil people represent that- primordial energies that, because they have not been consciously integrated into our personality structure, manifest themselves in tragic, destructive, and distorted forms: Walter White, Macbeth, the list is endless. Instead of burying this 'evil' in a separated shadow-self repressed and condemned to wander the border of the conscious mind forever; instead of doing that, we should aim to identify these 'evil' forces within ourselves. Doing so gives us the chance to consciously manifest them: consciously, which means, under our control. Because the problem with a Walter White is his driving impulses are not in his control. This, what I have said here, what Jung, Nietzsche, Zapffe, etc. have said-- all this seems more useful to me than just branding these figures evil and condemning them unreservedly. The saint is not a man blithely innocent, a grazing cow, incapable of evil due to weakness; he is just as fierce, just as terrible, but those same forces driving someone like WW have been brought under his control, and he can wield what otherwise burns others and destroys them. Being incapable of these dark acts does not make you good; (most people are neither good or evil; they are incapable of monstrous acts due to weakness, not enlightment; they are simply grazing cattle, unintegrated with the Shadow) what makes you good is being capable of them, but having control of the psychodynamic forces involved, and directing them toward less destructive ends.

I doubt there’s a majority of people who watch this show who actually admire Walter I think you’re confusing admiration for sympathy. We sympathize to a certain extent with Walter because of how his struggles through life make the average viewer relate to Walter and any man who’s very prideful. Walter is meant more to be a warning about letting one’s ego and pride rule, mike basically lays it all out for Walt and the viewer when he rails on him about it all falling apart. Walter is basically the epitome of pride cometh before a fall. Anybody can see this unless they’re at that impressionable age.

I think he means "wake" like in reference to the little trail a boat leaves behind as it cuts through the water or something, that's the other literal definition of the word "wake" but tbh I like your reasoning better lol it can work as a double entendree

@usul573
@usul573 7 лет назад
I mean that Walt is a bad influence, he's a toxic manipulator who destroys so much of what he touches. Since he's the main character and fun we might fall into the trap of thinking that he's the good guy, the right guy but that's not true. His advice to Jesse here is "Hey we've done a lot of bad stuff, why not just keep going? We're beyond redemption, who cares? Stay in the drug trade, you're a worthless and pathetic person if you leave." I say Walt is full of it, Jesse can become a better person free of this toxic environment, and that redemption is possible despite his past, he can be who he chooses to be now. Walt has terminal cancer and is losing his family, his drug empire is basically all he has left and he's egotistical as hell on a power trip.

Not that Walt has no humanity in him at all, but still. I do feel sorry for him sometimes but I also get pissed at him. Very complex morally.

Walts manipulating jesse obviously but his perspective is that your already danmed to might as well go down on a throne. Somthing i imagine some sociopathic people share jesse knows theres no going back But he has a perspective that even though that he cant go back he is done hurting others because its the right thing to do. The truth is you can do bad things in the past that you cant fix but if you try to be better in the future then maybe you can atleast live with yourself. But walt by this point walt doesn't care he just is taking his excuses before he dies
