"IF you can't maneuver your bike you could get hurt or killed "... rider just got killed yesterday because a car turned in front of him and he couldn't maneuver his bike. Now I know, a car.. and I don't know the full details..but the rider was young. Hit the backside of the car. But the point of my post is you have to be able to lean!!! I've been riding for 35 year now, maybe a couple more, but we'll call it 35 years riding. I just thought I was a rider until I started practicing Motormans skills. Now, I can bust a u turn in 2 parking spaces very eay on my SG. I practice just about everytime I ride.

No matter how cold it gets this winter in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Southern Virginia where I live, this will be one of the exercises I will be doing. There are many Church parking lots here through the week to practice in. And with all the Christian bikers around here {if they see me practicing} ya never know it might turn into a Christian ministry.........U turns for Christ !! Thanks for sharing your wisdom Jerry, and now its time to practice it

"Had to lay 'er down, man..." is code for "I can't ride for shit, so I jumped off"... In my area, we'd often say "Killed all the way to death and stuff" as opposed to "just killed a little bit" which a person could (usually) get over. ;o)

I 've been practicing this for a few year based on your excellent videos and could turn much tighter with my Vulcan 900. This year I purchased a Vulcan 1700 Voyager and can only do every other parking spots. Never dropped the 900 but dropped the 1700 twice during the turn. I wasn't shifting my weight enough and also had to stop while in the turn due to a student driver coming right at me. I wish that I could get drop guards for the Vulcan like they make for the HD. I may have to make my own somehow. Practicing these techniques has really improved my confidence. Thanks you again for the great videos.

I agree is exercise is fun and when you master it you can start adding other details to push your abilities. One thing you can try for is coming to a complete stop after the turn. This maneuver helps you to straighten out everything quickly and relying on head and eyes as well as handle bar turn and lean control. I will upload a video doing this because it's hard to explain but easier to comprehend if you see. Keep practicing my friend!

I started riding last year, primarily as a commuter. One night when I was coming home from work, someone pulled out in front of me on a local road. He or she was in the median and wanted to get over into the lane I was in and didn't see me. I had little room to escape. I was going 50 mph and could not have stopped. I swerved and missed the car by feet. Had I tried to brake instead of swerving, I would've slammed directly into the car. Had I hesitated for just one second, I would've hti the car at 50 mph, probably causing myself serious injury. I had been practicing the swerve from the MSF class. It probably saved my life that night. I was going the speed limit and wearing hi-vis, but if someone doesn't look, that won't help.

The key is to look as far ahead of your path of travel as possible and to recognize a potential threat before it becomes an actual threat. Doing so will give you plenty of time to come up with a plan to either slow down and prepare to stop (the best plan) or brake then swerve.

And there would be no reasoning with them. Very difficult to find somewhere to do this “ere” Unless you are with RoSPA or IAM. Who sometimes contact a factory and are allowed to use their Car Park at a weekend. Jerry I would love to purchase your vid,Ride like a Pro. But we just don’t have the area to practice on. Jerry, those rivals are pretty bikes. I was looking at getting a early 2000 Harley, but with all the cam issues I decided on a 2005 Yamaha road star for reliability. It has 29,000 miles on it and the clutch’s are sticking. Oh well I’m hoping a little additive and a oil change will cure the problem along with riding it a little more often. Harley’s, are nice bikes l just don’t like the cam chains.
@ront9395
@ront9395 2 года назад
Most 88s have had the cam chain tensioners upgraded. I sold my beautiful 2003 FLHTCUI100 for $4,500 this summer. It had the SE cam chain tensioners and oil pump upgrade. Once you ride a Harley you can’t go back to a metric. I bought a 2012 FLHTK.
