We all need to start really analyzing the 'rules' we are following in life and recognizing whether or not they are actually benefiting us.

Rules are made to keep you scared and under control.

My sister moved from California to Hawaii many years ago with her then young daughter. No job, nowhere to live, just decided that’s where she wanted to be. Sold all her belongings and left. She made it work, she started her own business and thrived there. Why? Because nobody told her she couldn’t. Nobody said it was a crazy move. We all supported her choice.

I think its the knowing that you have someone to fall back on if you fail reduce stress and make you more productive. Most people do not have families like that if you are screwed you are on your own. what kind of business?
@ItsBellum
@ItsBellum 11 месяцев назад
@@shanecarmen8144 I made a similar type move from Indiana to Florida 5 years ago, without much support or anyone to fall back on. What I discovered was that help came from the most unsuspected places. For instance I had put a mattress on top of my car to drive to my new place. A guy stopped me and said I needed to secure it better, I had no more bungee straps...he did and secured the mattress he followed me until I reached my interstate exit to make sure I was safe. I knew no one here but my friend Will from highschool called and said his cousin Heather lived here and I should call her, she has become my bestfriend and her family has adopted me as their own. So the Universe will bring you support when you need it.

Your family sounds very positive. It was your last sentence that made the difference..."we all supported her choice". With my family dynamics there was no emotional support that is why I'm lacking confidence in my choices.

2 years ago I quit my "good, stable" full-time job in a stressful, toxic, fear-based workplace, not having any idea what I was going to do next. I found your videos back then and your perspective was really encouraging to me as I prepared to make the terrifying choice to throw away stability in order to (hopefully) be more free. I took a few months off, traveled across the country, and am now working part-time at a job where I'm treated with respect and have very little stress. Several months ago my landlord decided to raise my monthly rent by $200, but instead of following the "rules" and working more hours just to hand more money over to him, or worse, going back to the kind of job that would crush my spirit again, I am living in a camper on a friend's land, surrounded by nature and peace, and paying very little for rent. There are certainly inconveniences to this new life I've chosen, but I have not regretted choosing it for a single day. I feel so much more free and at peace now.

AMEN. Rules I'm currently breaking: - A woman should be in a relationship or married - A woman should want and have children - An adult should have a car - An adult should own a TV - People need to go to church if they REALLY love God - People should commute to work and back; no working from home because small-talk with people in the office is important... Oh and work should be 5 days a week - Christmas (my birthday! ) /Easter/New Year's must be spent with family members who bore/irritate you whilst you slave over cooking and cleaning the house (like you do every other day in the year?! Hell no!) - Every time you get asked to be a bridesmaid or attend a wedding/bridal shower/hen do/baby shower etc, you have to say yes - Every time an acquaintance says "OMG, we have to meet up!", you have to say yes... I recently got this response after wishing someone happy birthday by text and responded with "I hope you mean virtually because it's cold..." - no response! 😂) - Women should/need to wear make-up and get their hair, eyebrows, eyelashes and nails done (Ha! The money I'm saving is funny!) - Certain foods are for breakfast, others for lunch and others for dinner (Says who??? Watch me eat chicken in the morning and cereal in the evening) I'm a single, childfree, work-from-home, fun aunt who can go on holiday whenever I want, worship God how and where I want, and not pay bills for anything that adds no real value to my life. It's a blessed life! 🙌🏾 😁 🥂

Your kids will either be an asset or liability to you but you dont find that out until they become teenagers no matter how well you raise them. The same thing about a house the house will become an asset or liability to you become making the monthly payment. But you will spend years spending money on property taxes,maintenance costs, and other expenditures long before it is an asset to you when you sell it free and clear.

I love this, I definitely take the role of the eccentric aunt in my family. I'm the youngest, in my early 20's and constantly comparing myself with other people and my older brothers who are settled, married and living a more 'stable' life with a home. I was always a rule follower as a kid and imagined myself with a family, home and 2.5 kids by the time I was 25, but as I started growing up, things stopped making sense and I also found out I was gay. Life kept throwing me curveballs. I flunked out of high school, I had no idea what to do as a career and I beat myself up constantly for not going to university, even though I didn't really want to study anything or have a career, I just wanted to do it because everyone else was doing it and it felt like that was the ultimate path in life. When I tried to get a normal 9-5 job in an office, I was depressed even though I forced myself to accept it, and I ended up burning myself out. The money wasn't enough of a prize for me to work a stressful job. I did end up working a casual job with less hours, but still felt like a failure, because I felt like I wasn't living up to my 'potential'. Despite having a car, I prefer walking, so much so that my parents ended up selling their own car because I barely use mine and we share it. I never buy anything in regards to technology, clothes (I used to try to keep up with fashion but I don't see the point anymore) or anything, and the only thing I would need would be money for food and rent/electricity, if I lived on my own, which I don't, and I don't have any subscriptions or debt. I never wanted anything in my life when it comes to objects or career, I just want to live and experience as much as I could in this short life that we have and accomplish goals like writing a book or solo travelling one day.

No wonder so many people don't live the lives they truly want...I was one of them but I am breaking out of my comfort zone. I have long been considered rebellious for being a nonconformist and that used to make me feel like an outcast however now it is liberating as my choices are continually making me more free, whereas most people seem trapped in the rat race. Love this one. This is 100% the truth, My mother instilled in me at a young age that life is what we make it, that we can do anything we want, as long as were willing to live with what comes from it. Follow the Law, Try not to do harm to others, but don't let anyone tell you how to be. I lost that believe and for 15 yrs of marriage let someone else and their rules dictate my life, and my joy and prosperity withered away. I just want to say thank you Tim, you were and continue to be an inspiration, it was your videos that reignited my love of freedom and self fulfillment. Keep up the good work. There are still so many people who are living unfulfilled lives simply because they haven't heard anyone say they didn't have to..

I went up that path years ago. I'm very liberated . Life , liberty ,and the pursuit of happiness 😊. I wrote my own rule book. I'm 60 almost . Feel good man. No excess baggage from the matrix. I implemented some eastern philosophy though. Like 20 minutes meditation daily and yoga 🧘‍♂️ stretches for circulation. As you grow older the energy from the legs will go away if you don't use them . Sitting at a office or home not good all of the time. I frequent coffee shops sometimes and talk with the locals here in the most successful small city in usa . Trust me ! They have so many problems in the matrix. Most thought they would feel better but don't. They are usually divorced. Just saying. I think you can take part in society and still be happy . You have the Tao. Confucius was about refining your life in society. Lao tzu was about leaving the matrix and being free of it physically. Like a monk. I chose the monk path. 😊

I recently discovered you, Tim, and find your words have more impact than anyone else I’ve ever listened to when it comes to life advice. I’m struggling with a major decision: do I abandon my relationship with a wonderful, sexy, loving single mom of 4, do I turn my back on love to regain my freedom, to rebuild my drained finances, and to lower my stress? I have a beautiful, happy, healthy, upbeat woman who’s crazy about me, and my sex life has never been better, but taking care of all these kids and their issues is draining me emotionally. I know that this lifestyle isn’t optimal, but some would say I’m crazy to think about leaving. Society tells me I’m a selfish piece of sh*t for not wanting to take care of these stepkids and meeting my own needs instead. We’re supposed to be selfless and sacrifice our own needs for the children, and I’m balking at that. I’m 51, healthy and fit, gainfully employed, own my own home, and have no kids of my own. Any advice appreciated!

It's so much deeper than the rule. You touched on it in the beginning. Someone that looks like...has religion like... It's all identity based. Slaves had slave rules until they said I'm not a slave. So at the root of the limitation is ascribing to an identity. Given the timing of this post I would take a wild guess and say you're either a Taurus or a Scorpio because a few days ago there was a huge alignment highlighting this very subject. You're seeing the world and even people you may have demonized in a completely different light

Yeah, I am noticing how inconsistently the rules of life are applied. Certain people are rewarded for breaking the rules while others are punished for doing the same thing. Some people benefit from being obedient and others don't. But I am finding it rewarding to improve my ability to take more calculated risks in my life. You don't get ahead by staying totally safe all the time. Decentering work and finding better balance are risks worth taking!

You just got a new follower from Germany, man 🙂 I live in my Ford van since December 22, which I build completely on my own, watching RU-vid videos. RU-vid is such a blessing in these days! Taking this step was probably the best decision in life I ever took so far. Rent is usually the biggest bill to pay and to cut that off gave me so much freedom. All you really can buy with money is freedom at least, for you will have to let things go at the end of your life. thanks for sharing your thoughts on this. I hope especially younger people will listen to your message! ❤❤❤

my touchstone: ""I will accept any rules that you feel necessary to your freedom. I am free, no matter what rules surround me. If I find them tolerable, I tolerate them; if I find them too obnoxious, I break them. I am free because I know that I alone am morally responsible for everything I do."" decided not to own car or buy house: most people get them through loans and they are HUGE money sink rather focus on getting rid of my student debt and not to cause more stress need car? rent one or borrow from your relatives if you can.. becomes far more cheaper and you are right about: who made rules are not following them either: politicians demand us to pay taxes and yet they themselves avoid paying them all the time and thought about this: would you rather be actually wealthy or look rich with brand clothes, cars, house and be forever in debt and unable to make own investments? your life is yours.. life for yourself not for others

Great content, Tim! I figured this fifteen years ago. It's been a long while and today is free but I kinda depressed myself. One recent realization I had, it is to truly value the great relationships we have! My plan is to socialize much more and even begin dating!! I'd loved to meet more folks. Nearly lived like a hermit for the past ten years and I now regret this... Just a heads up with a pitfall to avoid when paving our own path... lol

I'm not doing anything unless it is mutually beneficial. I mean, I am willing to do things that only benefit me, but I try not to benefit at the expense of others. Mutualism, commensalism, but not paratisism. Well, if I can help it. I will keep doing my best to be my best self. Break rules, not laws.
