I think people should stop seeking outside value and validation from people like these, they THRIVE on attention and validation, they don't care about the series or to create legitimate discourse on mushoku tensei, all they want it to create drama and they will use buzzwords like "Nazi" or "Sexist", or "Misoginist". Those words have lost their true meaning a LONG time ago. My advice is to not really give these people the time of day, do not give them a platform, treat them like a leave in the wind and eventually they will fade away.

If I don’t like something I read or watch, I drop it and move on to the next best thing I can find. I dropped this manga long ago when it wasn’t even as popular and was in the very early arcs. I watched the first season of the anime and I liked it better, but I never cared for subsequent seasons. If you legitimately get mad about fiction to the point where you type out whole essays and post on social media to gain more attention, ironically from people who like what you hate, then you’re just an attention seeking idiot. While I wouldn’t recommend the manga because I personally can’t suspend enough disbelief to be okay with the premise of the story, I’m not the authority on what people like. If you can get past the premise and actually get into it, I’ve heard it’s a good read. It’s really not that deep, you either dislike it or you like it, but don’t try to impose your dislike onto others. [edit: unless it’s objectively something bad]

So many people particularly important people who have potential to do great broad things were cancelled and villified by toxic social and mainstream media. People expected Rudeus to suffer and die as punishment for his earlier behavior. These are the same people who believe prison sentence should always be execution, when the whole point of prison is rehabilitation. I will never understand why people cannot understand that you can read a story, without agreeing with every single thing that is said or done in the story. I have never read or watched Jobless Reincarnation, but I would never label someone as horrible (or worse) just because they like this series. There are some series that I absolutely love and have had a good impact on me, and even though that is true - I don’t agree with everything shown in those stories. But you know what? That’s okay. I can still love those stories without 100% agreeing or loving everything that is shown in them. People need to focus more on things that they like, instead of spreading anger/insults, over a fictional story.

But Twitter being Twitter I guess...Recently, I've noticed that there's been an increase with those anime tourists that just complain that the content are not suited for them before jumping to another community.

I’m under the belief that you can watch the show but at the same time I do think that better entertainment is out there. You can talk about how Rudeus “gets better” but if the story doesn’t convince me of that but more of just him learning self control instead of actual growth to how he approaches things, I just don’t think it’s that great. You can make flawed characters and plenty of stories have done that but with Rudeus there’s nothing there that has shown me he’s truly changed. I watched the first season with every episode being hard to watch and then season 2 I was told “he gets better” and I still see the fucker worshipping minor’s panties…to me that simply broke my patience. The dude was more worried about a broken dick over the mission of finding the rest of his family and even takes time to worship some depraved shit, but I’m supposed to think he’s changed simply because he pushes people away or does a workout. I ended up spoiling myself later down the line and the fact he does what he does later in the story just proves to me that nothing has truly changed other than him becoming more like the timeline he’s in. He lived in a far future with an understanding of what the right thing to do is and he just has his bad traits reinforced by this new setting and there’s nothing to really challenge it to make him truly change. I know this has been a long rant but I just don’t get how this show is supposed to be so good when I immediately fell in love with anime like Overlord, Saga of Tanya the Evil, etc. where the protagonist in those stories aren’t exactly good either, yet I feel way more for them because they express their reasons and are more understandable to root for than Jobless. Maybe I’m just crazy but that’s how I see it

If this show never got an anime and stayed a light novel people wouldn't have cared. Since being animated some can't separate a work of fiction from reality. If the stuff in the show makes you uncomfortable it's ok to feel those things, what's not ok is bullying others for enjoying or defending a show.

These kind of people always fear the things they don't understand. Rudeus for all intents and purposes due to extreme bullying in his past life resulted in him suffering and shutting himself off from the outside world which for all intents and purposes halted his development into becoming a proper adult. Hell worse he might have regressed in that time of isolation to protect himself. The brain does incredible things to stop you feeling stressed. These people always live in a bubble and often suffer a lack of empathy or understanding. Rudeus isn't a perfect human (but in all likelihood he'll become a far better person than some of people ever will be) and yes his behaviour at times is wrong, no-one defends that but EVERYONE deserves a chance to become a better person and that is what this story is about. Can a person given a second chance become better than they were? Hell we see it in the show. He is by far a better person already than what he was. People make truly bad mistakes in life and Rudeus suffers through his character development. He gets outright killed, injured, imprisoned, loses his family across an entire world, He find Eris walking away from him with no idea why and so on BUT he has also saved lives, shown compassion, reconnected with family and friends and forgiven grievances and so on. He is BY far a better person than most of X. When's the last time they helped anyone?

I hate "Rent-A-Girlfriend". Never watched the anime, but I have friends who watch the anime, and it's exactly as I thought it was. The main character is pure shit in my opinion. But I'll never tell people not to watch the anime, or hate the people who do.

I won't judge anyone. I'll simply say I didn't feel comfortable AT ALL watching this. Too many borderline sex scenes involving children either listening, watching it, or attempting it. I stopped after watching the protagonist (physically 10 years old) in bed with a 12 year ild. That's just too creepy for me.

People just can't accept people being flawed even in fiction. Its a story about an absolute scum of a person earnestly trying to be better. A flawed character that continues to develop throughout the series a well written main character. His whole shtick doesn't rely on being cool and overpowered alone, he actually has depth. The world of MT enhances that. It is not the modern world, it has different set of morals, values etc. due to the circumstances around them. The main character and other characters then interact in an oragnic manner in a dynamic world. People apparantly don't like that. They want everything to be tailored to what they see is right or acceptable. They don't care if it is well written or not. What they care is if it makes them feel good about themselves after watching/reading it. THAT is their entertainment.

So...I'm probably going to regret typing this up if anyone reads it, but...I agree with some of what was said in the post being covered here. Now, for clarification, I don't think watching or reading Mushoku Tensei makes you any different than anyone else. Sure, there are probably bad people who read and watch it, but there are also bad people who don't, I don't think there's necessarily anything wrong with consuming the series. With that out of the way...I do agree that Mushoku Tensei is a story that "actively minimizes & makes excuses for genuine blank & blank" (RU-vid will eviscerate this comment if I spell most of these words out, so just bare with me here). I think it's a little silly to pretend that Mushoku Tensei doesn't trivialize many of the awful things that are done to women in the series and sometimes outright portrays awful things as being of no big deal. The key thing to note, is that a lot of the time these awful things are not treated with the severity they ought to be from the author. If a character is an atrocious person, that's fine, that's the character, yet, Mushoku Tensei does often present awful things done to women as...not that bad or even good. The post being covered here takes the criticism too far to even be considered reasonable (which is part of why I'm typing this, because I think there is validity to it), but when the poster says that Mushoku Tensei is a power-fantasy in a world where men are able to do whatever they want to women, largely without any repercussion, that's accurate. If you enjoy that type of story, that's fine, and I wouldn't let that change my perception of you as a person if I knew you. Still, as a story, Mushoku Tensei relishes getting to tell a story about awful men who do awful things and get rewarded for it, which is fine, I mean who doesn't like the occasional story where bad people get to live free and do as they like. But, Mushoku Tensei is also a story where the author doesn't seem to have a problem with how the male characters treat women and girls, which I think can be inferred based on how the story very rarely shows the women and girls in its world having any substantial criticisms or issues with the awful things men do and get rewarded for. Put simply, that's not how most writers would choose to portray characters they think negatively of, because it doesn't say anything bad about them, and in many ways actually says a lot of good. I'm starting to ramble and I think I've gotten my point across. Myself and many people do not like this series and think poorly of how it handles some very sensitive topics that the author often feels too immature to cover with the care they should be. Yet, that doesn't mean we have anything against the people who read or watch the series and enjoy it. The individual responsible for the post being covered in this video is more than a little unreasonable and made some absurd and unfair accusations, that's something I made clear from the start and maintain at the end. Hopefully this rambling fool was able to make sense of the people who have valid complaints of Mushoku Tensei and view it as problematic, without disrespecting or demeaning those who are the overwhelmingly vast majority, the people who enjoy it honestly and don't take its more troubling aspects beyond the page and screen.

this is actually hilarious. I have watched a lot of anime, read a lot of light novels and manga, played many visual novels over the decades. mushoku tensei is WAY up there with the story writing and character development. these tourists are a joke.

You aren't a terrible person if you like Mushoku Tensei. You are a terrible person if you think Rudeus Greyrat is a good person, even at the end of his arc. He's crap all the way through, he just develops more confidence and social skills. It's fine to enjoy the story, as long as you understand that Rudy never becomes a good person. If you think otherwise, you are taking his moral failings onto yourself.

If you don't like some fictional story because of its controversial topics and can't enjoy it, it's fine. You can stop watching it. But don't judge the people in real life just because they enjoy that fictional story. It's that simple.

These people on Twitter cannot deal with these taboos, and end up confusing terms and even creating terms to repudiate certain acts such as pedophilia and racism that coexist in various genres of entertainment. Mushoku Tensei has serious problems with how the writter deals with Rudeus and his distorted instincts in his new life, the story shows that his acts in early life is something that makes him a deplorable person However, at the same time both in anime and the manga/Light novel (which, by the way, has much more questionable things) They tend to satirize, soften and not punish libidinous acts, Turning abuse scenarios into comedy in his NEW life, this is so much wrong and worse due to Rudeus's mental age being of an older man, Rudeus does not pay his actions with the same coin, in the author's writing. Now comes the famous phrase "It's just fiction" so... you are saying that fiction is something separate from reality maybe even worse, the morally bad issues of our reality gain less importance because they are mixed into a form of escapism that manifests itself in books, anime, games and films?! If you believe this, then why do authors build their worlds with ethical, behavioral and psychological problems in a fictional world? The characters and the audience all know that Rudeus’ behavior is bad and how he grows out of that is literally part of his character development. Then when it came to anything sexual actually happening to him he was almost never the one who initiated it. I mean shit if you think Rudeus is bad just see what Eris does to him later on in the light novel… Mushoku Tensei isn’t an “incel power fantasy”, it’s more of a “incel goes through hardship and struggles so he can be rehabilitated into society as a respectable person fantasy”

The pedophilia things is always strange to me. There are plenty of stories where someone is reincarnated with past life memories, and the romances they indulge in are never shamed. Terrible person, not necessarily. At very least liking it doesn't make you one. But you sure do have a poor taste if you praise it to high heavens.

Yet none of this controversy surrounds Breaking Bad who's main character kills countless people as well directly causing the death of his own family members and abuses and emotionally blackmails his wife into being complicit in his actions. The only reason he gets a pass and Rudeus doesn't is because of the sexual nature of his character flaws and the perceived sexual agenda of the author for certain story elements(Note I said *PERCIEVED* sexual agenda). Stories about characters who are flawed are more interesting than those without. Watching characters make wrong or morally questionable choices and then having to deal with the consequences is where these shows derive a lot of their tension. Just because Rudeus's flaws are sexual in nature makes it feel gross to a lot of people, which is perfectly fine, but that does not mean you can say I'm a bad person for enjoying the show because then that same logic can be applied for people who like Breaking Bad, which isn't exactly few in number. Me enjoying the show doesn't mean I agree with the character's actions, and me not agreeing with the characters actions doesn't mean I dislike the author for writing it that way or that I believe the author has some sort of weird fantasy where he wishes he was the main character. Fucking get over yourselves and let me enjoy my media. Also, side note: Another reason this gets a lot of hate is because Isekai has a reputation for being a self insert fantasy, so when a show like this comes out where the main character has sexual desires surrounding underaged girls, people automatically assume that the people who watch it only watch it to self insert simply because it is an Isekai and therefore, everyone who watches it fantasies about having sexual relationships with young girls. To these people I say: What the fuck are you smoking and where can I get some because that seems like a really good high with how far up your own ass you are. I know this is gonna sound crazy, but bear with me here: THIS IS NOT A SELF INSERT FANTASY. I know, I know, it may seem hard to believe considering it has all the basic elements like how the main character gets to leave his sad pathetic life behind, and then become someone new where he's now super strong, but you're missing a few key details: 1: Despite his new "Magic Prodigy" status, he his STILL just as sad and pathetic as he was in his previous life despite how much he wants to convince himself he's not. 2: Rudeus's previous life isn't forgotten about, it continuously comes to haunt him and it takes actual effort for him to overcome his past trauma. 3: THE STORY ACTIVELY SHAMES RUDEUS'S ACTIONS AND MINDSET, LIKE HOW THE HELL CAN YOU THINK THIS IS GLORIFYING ANYTHING HE DOES???? When he first tries to have sex with Eris, she beats him and it almost ruins their relationship, he literally has an internal monologue wondering how he could be so stupid and try to do something so horrible to her, and finally when he DOES do it later in the story when they both thought they were ready, the author very explicitly shows that this was a bad choice through its consequences. IT LITERALLY GIVES HIM ED FROM THE TRAUMA THAT TAKES YEARS TO CURE. Heck, it almost causes him to commit die(I know this is pretty silly phrasing, but this comment will get flagged if I say anything more explicit). Every time he does something explicitly wrong due to his previous perspective of how sex works, it has massive ramifications to show him why his previous mind set was wrong. This story isn't some power fantasy for you to project yourself into, it's a story about a guy with messed up world views given a second chance learning why those world views are wrong and why he needs to use this second chance to change, and I not only think that makes an interesting story, but is also actually pretty inspiring. I may not directly relate to Rudeus's world views, but I can relate to having done something wrong that I didn't initially realize was wrong and coming to regret it later. I guess in a weird way, that does make this a self insert, not because the main character gets to live his life the way he wants or doesn't have to work hard, but one the main character gets a second chance to work hard at becoming a better person. Last short little side note: Explanation point made a video about why he doesn't like Mushoku Tensei and that's perfectly ok, most of his points are valid, but there is one argument I'd like to correct. He says something along the lines of "It's ok to have a flawed main character, but when every single argument for the show starts with 'he gets better I swear,' then you've gone too far." I'd like to say that my argument for why the show is good isn't that "the main character doesn't stay a bad person forever," my argument is that "the main character learning to not be a bad person is the whole point of the show." The show shows Rudeus as a completely awful person with a horrible mindset so you can appreciate the steps he has to take to overcome it. Essay finished, hope I get a good grade.

There is a concept in the story of foreshadowing, undertone of the theme in the title and some are having a plot twist. Okay have they watched the difference between white elf and dark elf? it's understandable, MT is a story about growing up and be a better person than you were/despite your past there is no such thing in twitter, these twitter users WILL dig up story from your past and use it against you if they don't like you, whether or not you've changed. Rudy WAS a bad person, but it wasn't really his fault to begin with. He got bullied because of his hobby, of his appearance and it made him a shut in. He didn't get to mentally grow up and have social interactions. He glorified sex and treat it very poorly just like any immature person would do; so the first few times he gets to interact with girls it's very creepy and he's not a PDF, he's a childish pervert, he drools over ANY women because again; in his previous life he didn't get to grow up because he got bullied he groped his maid, he drool over his own mother even, Eris's mother, Ghislaine and so many more to him Sylphie/Eris was just another girl, he didn't like them because they looked like a kid. people that say Rudy is a PDF only looked at things at surface value, which is very sad.

The problem Is people are not used to seeing a flawed main character. They're not used to seeing a character who is selfish or self absorbed. They are too used to characters who are super goody goody or who have a hero complex. This is a story of a person who is down in the dumps, being able to rise up and become a better person. These are the same people who would not be able to handle a bad guy for a main character. This is one of the reasons.I believe that many of these same people didn't like Bleach. Ichigo was not seeking the approval of other people. He was already grounded and they're not used to character like him. The level of literacy is truly lacking..

Honestly, I'm not surprised in the least that Twitter sees realistic human interaction where, yes, people sometimes make poor choices or (GASP) couples fall in love & they straight up short circuit over it because the only interactions they know are connected to a screen & keyboard where they can selectively find things that are as idealized & comfortable as they can tolerate.

someone made a study about vast majority of outraged comments being made by people who never read/watch/listen to the thing they are outraged about past the headline so making this video probably won't change anything for them, might shine light on the story for people like me who are simply not interested in the series clearing out the biggest issues, but still not making me any more interested, and probably deeply resonate with people who are already fans. so i apriciate the explanation. that being said the thing i hate the most about internet nowdays is tribalism and polarisation that makes me unable to interact with fandoms of anything without being 100% dedicated drone or being labeled a traitor for liking something else , so the problem in my experience is not limited to mushoku tensei haters because part of the mushoku fandom might do the same thing for prople liking something else, at least the crazyly dedicated ones

I am not on you on this one, Rudeus IS the adult in any situation. The fact is. He should never had any relationship with non adult in his new life. He was not taken advantage of, he took advantage of Eris (obviously lying to her about his actual age) because he was always the one with power within their relashionship (training her. She looked to him as a mentor, he was always "mature"), as much as you like the serie. Going on defending Rudy on this point is pointless and straight up shows how much victim blaming is easy. Though I would add people on twitter always read too much into subtext w/o appreciating the literacy, I won't blame people that hate on this anime because I too, have been shocked. While I am a big weeb and still like it a lot, I even started watching the manga because I liked it that much, but that's because I can write these abstractions in my head that enable me to continue the serie for other reasons.
