This truck is an excellent value, especially if you do routine maintenance yourself. Parts are inexpensive. I drove a 1996 S10 daily for about 15 years. Clocked 340,000 miles and it was still running when I sold her. Changed head gasket at 190K, 2nd engine at 295K. Drawbacks: 96 and earlier 2-bolt downpipe design kills gaskets prematurely and causes an exhaust leak. Fix is to get a header or exhaust manifold and 3-bolt downpipe from a later model. Need to drop the transmission to change the slave cylinder (happened @90K mi.). NV manual transmission is solid though. Clutch replaced twice. Headlight switch wears out so contacts get weak after constant use. My fix was to replace with toggles after replacing it twice. Currently drive a '92 Toyota and the S10 upholstery was more comfortable and the steel for the body is a thicker gauge. Both the 2.2L 4 cylinder and the 4.3 V6 Vortec are good reliable engines.

I sold it for $1500 after I beat the hell out of it and racked up 158k miles on it. It still ran like a dream. I always changed oil at 3k miles. Funny part is I see the truck driving around still.

@john probst the best car to get is a car that just keeps going and going and going to the point where you're pretty much tired of it because you never have to fix it which is part of owning a vehicle those are the truly loyal ones the ones that are so reliable you actually get tired of their reliability and go and get a Dodge or something so that way you actually have to fix it on occasion

Commercial Isuzu trucks still use General Motors motors for their gas motors. Our company has a 2015 Isuzu 4500box truck with a GM 6.0 V- 8. Fast truck for a HD work vehicle, but they dont seem like the build quality is there. BTW, had to replace the 6 speed automatic @ 130,000 miles, cost around $5000 for a rebuilt transmission to be installed, typical GM.

In 1990, I bought an '87 Isuzu LS pickup with 37K for $4700. It was my most reliable vehicle ever. For 20 years, outside of normal maintenance, it only needed an Idler arm and a firewall repair where the clutch-cable passed through. After 2010, it started needing a lot more work. Replaced it in 2014 with a '96 base Tacoma with 71K, and no first or third gear, for $400. The gearbox turned out to be an easy fix, but after 18+ years it did need brakes, shocks and eventually a clutch. But I'm not complaining. With only 84K on it now, It may outlast me!

The truck's an Isuzu and I thought it resembled an S-10. I learned how to drive manual with my dad's 1989 Chevy S-10. No power steering and the clutch was very tight and heavy. But I'm impressed its starter never went out considering my dad teaching myself and my three older siblings; by the way I'd say I was the one who stalled less than everybody else. :) The S-10 set me up for 1989 Nissan Pickup which had a lot easier clutch but slightly trickier shift lever.

Believe in one isuzu at the company that I worked for it has 1.120.000 km yes yes more than one million with the original engine and transmission, manual transmission ***** Here we say a car is reliable like isuzu***** Many Isuzu transport about 2.5 Tonnes everyday even though that the factory mention that they should not exceed 1.2 Tonnes as max transported weight They are so popular at the point that we have in Tunisia a factory of assembling isuzu that it has never satisfied the demand we have to wait for about 6 months to buy one, and people import them from SAUDI ARABIA it is better than waitibg for 6 months or more ....

I have 2 Isuzu Rodeos..a 96' and 97'. The 96' has 482,000 miles...3.2L engine...valve guides started leaking oil into cylinders...still runs. The 97' has 2.6L 4 cyl engine...5 speed manual...gets ~24mpg...runs great. Got it for $2,000 4 yrs ago...still looks like brand new. These cars are very easy & cheap to maintain...I'll never buy a new car ever again...too expensive.

A thing that a lot of people don't know about the front fascia of the Isuzu Hombre, is that is basicaly a Brazilian S-10 front end. You can buy the headlights for examble, brand new from Brazil, the cost between 80-90 dollars a pair.

Had an Isuzu trooper diesel back in the 80’s. Stay away blew up at 75k miles. Connecting rod went through the oil pan. Stay with gas. Changed out motor Isuzu wouldn’t cover repairs. got rid of it. Parts where hard to find as well. BEWARE ISUZU. LEARNED MY LESSON.

Up here in Canada they were total rust buckets. Opted for a D21 instead and did OK. Still running strong and frame is like new. Holes in the rocker panels though but floor is mint.
@alejandroarreola-torres5529
About that Q&A about a lean code, if you run too lean for too long you can cause irreparable or more expensive repairs later down the line. For starters, if it's really bad you might start overheating your engine. Down the line, you'll start burning pistons, exhaust valves and sometimes even heads (though that's more common in much older cars). A lean code could suggest a vacuum leak (which is what the mechanic that suggested an intake manifold gasket had in mind). In order to find that leak, spray brake cleaner around the air intake system until the engine revs up from sucking up the flammable gasses, then you'll know you're near the prime area.

My brother had a light blue 87 that outlasted him and became mine. AC was Forever Totally Ice Cold until 288K (30 MPG @ 85 MPH - hrs on end). Next I got a 93, then a 91, and finally an 85. I've loved every one, the older ones were so light I could pushstart them on level ground while sitting, and just left leg out the door to push.

My brother gave his 1975 Chevy Luv pickup to my Dad. My Dad wanted more power so I installed a sbc with a 350th and a 9" rear. My Dad was picky and wanted the factory gauges to work. Using brass threaded plugs, I drilled the centers for the metric sensors and the gauges worked.

Had a 96 Chevy S10. The day after I got it, the relay shorted out, then the fuel line burst open, spewing gasoline in my engine compartment. The extended cab seats were horrible, forcing me to sit all the way up and contort my arm in ways it should not be contorted in order to shift. I miss that truck...

Another thing to check for on the rumbling noise on the Acura RDX is, check underneath the vehicle and make sure the front air dam has not come loose from bumping a curb or something. Once you get up to interstate speed ,just the air flowing around it will cause it to vibrate. Make sure all plastic pieces are secure to the vehicle.

Scorty, I'm 71, been wrenching since I built my first 301 cuin.chevy before I had a license,got it on 16th birthday, in a 64' Ranchero, I love your approach, never diagrred with you lazaifare? Approach. I always say I drove junk, I know what that is...I'm still wrenching, mostly on neighbors cars. They are amazed, but I tell them, hey it's still a car, and the basic things I learned still apply.. electronics although help on more complex problems. The problem is still basic. My ex bought a new 88' 300 zx 2+2, and it had a horrible rumbling noise, went to 6 dealers, had the car 13 wks, changed everything except tires, ive seen this problem and said change the tires, the dealer said no ...they finally got the car back, and bought a 87 Maxima. Way better..oh I traded the wife in too, cost me a ton on depreciation..lol.. how come they go up in value?.. keep making videos... I love them...

Only problem was I was wearing out u-joints because of the extra up but once a year wasn't too bad for. The fun I had with it. Not much in the curves but it was fast in a straight line, ahh misspent youth!.
