Hey scotty my hometown in Montana is the only place that doesn't use road salt or road spray in the winter time everyone has to rely on themselves to get out 😂
Hi scotty i recently bought a 2006 Lincoln Zephyr for 5200$ has 95k miles. Was 1 owner trade in and still have a warranty has no rust and seems to run great so far was wondering if u think we got a good deal and do the zephyr's have major known issues?
Never had an iPhone crap out on me. Had plenty of fords crap out on me. Found on road dead. That’s not just an acronym. That’s what union labor gets you. Absolute crap.
My Name is Gladiator Y’know I’m not a huge apple fan but their phones are actually better than android update wise, I’d know because I’ve been an iPhone user for so long
Nobody told me that you have to lube a speedometer cable, now my needle broke off and I have to use the fuel guage to see if I'm speeding in my 1973 Cadillac Sedan Deville.
@@chesucat you see, these cables break once in a while just get another. thx for the tip though will lube the cable in my 1977 Ford Escort (European Ford)
Nothing wrong with that. I had a 2011 Toyota Tacoma single cab with the 2.7L engine. In 2019 a traded for another Tacoma because I wanted an access cab and 6 cylinders engine to do some towing. If I had bought one like that in the first place, I would still have it.
Robert Fortier My dad's friend has the 2000-02 version of it, he bought it brand new and he'll probably never get rid of it, it's black and he keeps it in GREAT shape mainly because he barely drives it, I'm thinking about getting one myself
That Lincoln LS was a great car in its day. Many of the technology is still being used (rain sensing wipers, all windows down on key fob, superior sound system). That was one great car that I had and it was fast. With all that being said, it was a Jaguar in disguise.
My 69 Chevelle would peg the needle in the winter while making a pretty good whine. Something inside had moisture that would freeze. It would drop down when stopping, but not all the way.
I've had a lotta $500 cars in my lifetime! One lasted 8 years before I wrecked it. Others didnt make it home! Such is life when you're poor! Ya learn to live without certain "amenities": a/c, stereo, leather, sunroof, power windows, horn, turn signals, tread, brakes....
I've had 11 cars since I got my license in 2013, all under $1000, like you said some last, one made it home and died in my driveway... Wouldn't start next day
Donell Muniz on the flip side, I choose to drive cars without those amenities so I can continue to amass my wealth. Those are the sacrifices I continue make to enjoy an affluent lifestyle. I believe most Americans flush theirs fortunes on car payments and credit cards, better luck on the next used car.
@@chicanopowers4938 GOOD plan! Dont give a fuxk what people say about your car.!!. If it goes, stops, has a radio and maybe good a/c, it does EVERYTHING the same as a car that you spend a GRAND or more a Month just to show off!!
bigwo56 I think some of my co-workers are nut for spending $800 plus a month for a truck, but it's their money; I just don't want my taxes to go up to fund their retirement.
@@maxbucio9854 Lol, there's nothing wrong with the engine. It's not a Toyota, but it's not less reliable than average. Coils, thermostat housing, and overflow tank are the main issues.
Sure .. and the speedometer can be swapped at the same time when doing the disassembling for the evaporator...then you'll have an excellent drive for another 15 years
This is when Ford owned jaguar, the engine and trans are literally jaguar. They weren't reliable and terribly expensive to fix. I feel like at this point you just pump out videos just to do it. Everyone knows if this was an s or x type you'd be talking about it being " an endlessly money pit". It's a lincoln that's LITERALLY a jaguar.
@@Arz2003 It's a Ford vehicle still. This is when Ford owned a large stake in Jaguar before selling it and Land Rover to a chinese business. It's a Jaguar engineered engine. The actual Ford V8 found in the F150 and Explorer was the better of the two engines. Lincoln is the ONLY vehicle that got those V8s over the Ford engineered ones.
@@manupasquette4116 There’s many other comments by people saying the engine and trans are definitely unreliable in these. That maybe Scotty got it mixed up with another car.
Know at least some of the answers to the questions you're asking your mechanic and maybe he'll tell ya something you don't know but need to know. Who's knows good luck.
Owned two. The V-8's were known for coolant leaks when their plastic parts deteriorated. The thermostat housing and the over flow tank. As did the 2000-2003 plastic timing chain tensioners after 125K or sooner if they didn't use synthetic. So avoid one that has overheated or rattles at start up. The V-6's had fewer problems. Transmission solenoids also went. And coils went, window regulators broke. Front sway bar bushings went. BUT, the body is half aluminum and I haven't seen a rusty one ever, even after 20 years up north. The body is very solid, designed with input from Volvo. I bought a low mileage 2002 V6 auto for a niece and it's needed some suspension work and the window regulators. But I sleep better knowing she's in a solid car. I agree with Scotty, they make good beaters if you find one cheap.
The LS was made when Ford owned Jaguar. The motor is an AJ designated Jaguar engine. It's actually an entry-level Jaguar with a Lincoln body. Parts are cheap from Ford or eBay. You are correct in some of the parts that need changing. Suspension, coils, radiator overflow. I bought an 05 in 09 with 65,000 miles, and I now have 350, ooo miles on it. But the rockers are rusted out, and the rear passenger lower control arm is no longer attached to the underneath. She is retired and under a cover. It will be a parts car. I'm buying another one. Good ones aren't cheap.
That's a nice running car tho with all the miles it has. Up north that car would bring 5k all day if you fix the AC and the seat and windshield. The speed sensor is easy to change on those and the AC leak is usually the accumulator on those and the Town Car which is a 35 dollar part and it just bolts on under the hood. That's where all the condensation collects and they rust on the bottom and they leak.
Scotty, the LS 500$. The LS was a plan to build a car like a BMW or Mercedes. it had to do with Ford jaguir connection. The ignition coils and maintenance is expensive. They were also poorly build and cheap. A Crown Vic, Grand Marquis,or Expedition with the 4.6 do run forever if you service them.
I had a 2005 with every option. This isn't the same "Ford v8" you find in other cars. It's a 3.9 liter (technically 3955 cc) which is almost identical to the Jaguar S type 4.0 V8, and it was also used in the Ford Thunderbird of that era. Back seat does NOT actually have a lot of legroom, but is adequate. The trunk is decent, but nothing like a "big lincoln". Reliability is average, ignition coils tend to go rather quick. MPG in the city (I mean stop and go NYC traffic) is horrible, probably around 10 mpg with AC on. *BUT*, with AC off, and cruise at 58 mph, I have hit 30.1. Overall, one of the best cars I've owned. The handling and ride comfort is impeccable.
News flash, that V8 is not a Ford motor. It's a coil eating Jaguar 3.9 V8 which was also used in the 2002-2005 Thunderbird. Also these LS's are known for all kinds of electrical gremlins (again courtesy of Jaguar) so I personally wouldn't chance owning one. $500 for a cheap, beat up example that runs and drives? Sure, why the hell not? Drive the wheels off of it (or until the electrical gremlins take over and brick your car, whichever comed first)
Exactly. Its one of the most unreliable cars. I don't know why he's recommending this car. It has bad reputation from owners. RU-vidrs can't be trusted sometimes
Scotty, you really surprise me with this video, because the Lincoln LS is a disaster. It has a JAGUAR AJ-V8 (not ford) which is extremely unreliable. This car has left me stranded on multiple occasions, until the engine finally grenaded. 5k mile synthetic oil changes all its life.
I had a 2000 and 2001 Lincoln ls with the 5 speed manual transmission. I had great luck with them. They are very reliable for me. It was my favourite car.
Hey from Australia Scotty love your videos mate you are so funny with fantastic simplified advice for anyone wanting to try DIY mechanics or just to avoid lemons 😊👌
I own a 2002 Lincoln LS with the V-8. Only 80k miles on it. Just watch the premium gas you use. Mine is sensitive to the ethanol. It will throw a check engine light which usually ends up being a coil being replaced. The water leak in the car is caused from two channels going down the two front pillars from the roof. Designed to drain the water from around the sunroof. Quick easy fix. Take some string trimmer line, at least .075 diameter or a little bigger. Cut about a 6 ft section. Run it down the two holes and clean em out..
haha i had a couple of those, they require premium fuel I learned that the hard way, when the cats plugged up, honestly i dont think any of them have working ac anymore haha, love your videos!!!!
Thanks to you and your tips I bough a 2011 Rav 4 back in September 2019. Have put more than 50k miles on it and still going flawlessly! Do all the work myself, so easy! So far just fluids and brake job. Thanks Scotty!!!
VRotate Yes. I do rideshare on the side and also have a transportation company. It was the most logical decision. This car is awesome. My only complaints are: A humming noise that comes from the transfer case at around 25 - 35 mph (doing some research I found that it’s quite common), and random rattling noises from all the plastic trim. I got the car with 80k miles, one owner (lady on her 80’s). Body has some scratches and I had to replace both bumpers (she would bump onto things a lot). Mechanical wise, it’s perfect. My next one will be a 4Runner TRD without a doubt.
@@thegravitxI doubt the car will quit at 300k as long as you maintain it well. The things are built to last. I wouldn't be surprised if you made it past 400, even 500k with mostly highway usage and frequent oil/trans fluid changes. The 4runner TRDs are very cool cars too. If I wasn't a German car guy (aka a masochist) a Toyota would be my next car for sure
I remember seeing a 2006 Lincoln LS with 27K on the odometer, selling for $8,995. Hella wish I'd have gotten it. Perfect maintenance record on the Carfax, too.
They sell for that cheap cause they are trash for reliability. It's pretty much a Jaguar with a lincoln badge...scotty is dead wrong about the engine and transmission.
These cars have their issues. Once rectified, tho, their great cars! Proud owner of an 02 LS V8 myself, still runs and drives with over 274k miles on the clock. 💪🏾 Retired her last June after purchasing a 2013 Lexus GS 350 F Sport, tho..
Ok I have one of these. I love it! A couple things to know.. you're not gonna find one for $500😂.. for a decent one it'll cost $3,000 - $5,000 also they're kinda hard to find. There's a v6 and a v8 option. The v8 has a jaguar engine😬. with only about 30hp less then the v8, i reccomend going for the v6, which has a Ford engine. the same one as the Ford Taurus has, with about 70hp added. those cars are known for going over 3000k miles! If you find a LS check for coolant leaks. they're notorious for having them.
Scotty quick question. My wife bought a 2015 Kia Forte5. I feel it was a good deal at 12,000 with only 5200 miles. Probably belonged to a snowbird here in Florida. Well I replaced the wipers and I am having sm issue finding one that works correctly on the rear. First one was the wrong fastener, now the second one fits but one end does not press down on the windshield. Is it best to just by OEM at the dealership.
I would never get a 2002 Lincoln LS V8 sedan or get any used vehicle for $500. This individual should have got a 2002 Chevrolet TrailBlazer 4WD mid-size SUV, with the 4200 (4.2 L) six-cylinder engine instead, because they are extremely reliable and slightly more fuel-efficient. Plus, there are a lot of TrailBlazer's and Envoy's still on the road, than the newer, piece of junk, GMC Acadia's and Chevrolet Traverse's - these have the unreliable, 3.6 L V6 engine from GM, because they have problems with the timing chain guides, along with other GM vehicles with the 3.6 L V6 and the newer, FWD Ford's and FWD Mazda's with the 3.5 L and the 3.7 L V6 engines, due to the water pump that needs to be replaced. The timing chains in those engines have to be removed to get to the water pump, which is a difficult job on the Ford 3.5 L and 3.7 L V6. I would not get one of these vehicles with the GM 3.6 L and the Ford 3.5 L and 3.7 L engines, because they are extremely expensive to repair. This includes the Saturn Aura, Ford Edge, Lincoln MKZ, Mazda CX-9, etc.
Hell, $500 for that? I'd drop the extra grand to fix the A/C for That car! I love the way the LS looks. But I'd buy a Thunderbird over the Lincoln just because of the interior flaws. Plus the ABS and check engine lights were on and I heard a borked door ajar sensor. I had a 2002 Explorer with that problem that liked to kick off its alarm at random times because it thought someone was opening its doors when literally nothing was even close to it
Oh yeah it is very simple fix I'm just saying every single one I worked at a used car dealer that love to buy LSS and Thunderbirds every single one of those 3.9 V8 would misfire because the damn coil pack every single one
You would think Scotty would know that that's not a Ford V8 that that's a 3.9 l Jaguar V8 I have a Lincoln LS I've had it for 5 years and it has 252,000 miles on it
I love my Lincoln LS mines a V6, So it's a bit more reliable. Mines a 2002 LSE one of only 1500 ever made. They are pretty sporty for what they are. Lincoln was chasing after BMW with these, and I personally think they succeeded. I LOVE my LS, gotta get a Timing job done, started making a lot of noise, but I'm gonna do it. Only got 150k miles, and where I'm at I could get 2500 out of it how it is. So I'm gonna spend the $700-1200 to do that Timing job.
I don't have any money in it, was given to me by my aunt as a Highschool Graduation present. Drove it from southern VA to Boston and back almost non stop and never missed a beat.
Hey Scotty my parents explorer is has 174000iles on it and it's runs strong and the AC run fine after 19 years and I called it a little tank cause of the v6 but it has transmission trouble and the right front is making an noise but my dad said just live with it and my dad doesn't put a lot of money for inspection and still an definitely a spare daily 😉😉👍👍😊😎😎😄😄😏😏
My daughter inherited a 2002 Lincoln sl with 44k miles and has been garaged kept. Paint is perfect, and the car looks brand new... is $6200 a fair price to ask?
SCOTTY----If it were me, I would start with the $500 and save my money until I have enough to buy a 1994 Toyota Celica. The A/C will work, the seats will not be ripped, it will get better gas mileage than the big V8, and is more dependable. Agree??
I remember my sister bought a late 80's Camry in the early 90's dirt cheap..repaired frame. It ran perfect..so smooth, soft ride. I wonder why I don't still see them on the road?..sure they looked like shoeboxes on wheels...all else about them was great. Again,if you bought one new then..you could say 40 years later its everyday and runs fine. Good deal.
Scotty please help.... I've had toyotas my whole life and in love with them. My girlfriend was looking for a used vehicle and bought a Chevy Equinox after much counsel against. (Had more features than a rav 4).How do I not hold a grudge and be passive aggressive when things start to go wrong with the thing. Canyon lake Tx
My mechanic uncle was considering proposing until his girl said she wanted a camero. Said he’d rather spend his free time doing other things than fixing her car. Get out before the problems start.
Console her by reminding her that the engine may not start, the transmission may not shift, but HEY that Sirius satellite radio still works GREAT, baby!
10 years ago I paid 500 for a Geo Metro. I'd take it over this 😏 Kinda wish I still had it, sold 3 years ago for 1500. You don't know cost effective until you've owned a Geo Metro
Rich Karney my son fell asleep while driving his geo metro on the freeway and rolled it a bunch of times. Him and his passenger walked away without a scratch. The car looked like it had been hit by a tornado
I would probably fix the A/C even if it was expensive if the car is guaranteed to last a long time. I mean I don't care about looks, I care about reliability and total cost of ownership. if the car costs me less than 1k a year to run, it's a great deal!
My first car I bought was a used 2001 v8 sport. That thing was super smooth, fast and impressive. I constantly had to replace the ignition coils though 😭
Did you put premium gas in it every time you filled up cause if not it will eat the coils? I have a 2002 LS 3.9 and it’s a great car. I love it but it’s just a nightmare to work on
FINALLY SOMEONE SAYS IT I ALWAYS TOLD PEOPLE YOU CAN FIND A LINCOLN LS FOR UNDER $1000 GREATEST BANG FOR YOUR BUCK I HAD ONE FOR 700 AND IT LASTED ME A FEW YEARS UNTIL IT FINALLY STARTED GIVING ME COOLANT ISSUES AND AC ISSUES THIS CAR IS FAST TOO IT'S SUCH A COMFORTABLE CAR WITH A VERY SHITTY HISTORY PEOPLE HAVE BEEN SLEEPING ON THIS CAR FOR SO LONG NOW THE PRICES WILL GO UP AFTER THIS VIDEO
