How to Protect your safe from unauthorized Access!
As the dust settles from the recent Liberty safe fiasco, I thought this would be timely. Basically I go over how to secure your safe from an unauthorized access through the manufacturer accidentally giving out a default factory combination and thereby compromising your safe. By the way, this applies to any safe manufacturer. In all fairness to Liberty Safe, they released the combination after seeing proof of a warrant. They have also announced that a customer can have the history of their safe expunged or removed from their records.
Below are paid affiliate links to two replacement lock bodies and combo pads that I would use. S&G and LaGard are standards in the industry. I would definitely avoid any no name cheaper brands.
La Gard amzn.to/3sQA8Ok
S&G amzn.to/486kvT1
DISCLAIMER: This video is not intended to defeat or circumvent law enforcement! If they have a warrant then they will get in your safe! The video simply describes a process in which you can swap out the factory lock body which in effect, removes the old factory code. If you have an older safe, this is probably something you want to do anyway. The lock body on my safe failed a few years ago and I was very lucky that I was able to get in with a replacement combination pad so I could replace the lock body. This video goes over the complete process.

For anyone saying there is a master code that is common across all safes, that is partially correct. Here is an article that describes it and states you MUST change the master code during the lock setup. Still doesn't guarantee that the manufacturer will not use the same one throughout its entire line but the master code has to be changed (Search Maseter Code on the page below): safelocksystems.co.uk/knowledgebase/2021/05/01/the-new-la-gard-700-series/ Update, it appears that Liberty uses Securam locks on their safes, You can remove the manufacturers code for a securam lck Liberty Securam infor: www.libertysafe.com/pages/securam-options How to Reset and Remove Factory Codes from a Securam lock system: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-pSfx0iH9Am0.html

They gave away this man's secrets for him. And that isn't necessarily a bad thing? You don't have exclusive access to your gun safe, liberty employees could go rogue and clean out everyone with that safe. It's a huge effing deal.

My understanding s that it was done with a warrant, which would have game them access to the safe whether Liberty cooperated or not. However, in retrospect, Liberty should have refused unless the warrant specifically forced them to reveal the factory code.

Several legal experts said Liberty Safe was under no obligation to hand over the code because the safe was not company property and the company was not the target of the search warrant.

easier way is to remove the serial # from the back of the safe as well as from the back of the keypad , keep those in a different location in case YOU need it .

Was it a serial number at the feds provided, or did liberty safe already knoe who they sold it to and what serial number he had?

My Liberty Safe warranty registration certificate has my name and my wife's name (as secondary) on the certificate along the serial number. I am betting that Liberty Safe can look up either of our name, look at that certificate, get the serial number and freely give out the safe's backdoor combination. I don't trust Liberty safe to do the right thing now.

Even worse, what if there is a single master combination, or an alternate entry mode that allows a master unlock sequence to be entered regardless of serial number? They never said what type of data entry they used.

Great video, but if you ever go through a federal search warrant like I have none of that matters, if they don’t get the combination or key access they will do like they did with me is to cut it open with torches and a large metal cutting saw. Eventually I was cleared of any charges but it cost me 10k in legal fees and 11k in the damage they did to my home. This included using a cutting torch over my hardwood floors That guy is probably lucky that got his combo

So are you saying that each safe has its own special code different from the one you program? A backdoor code different from all other safes? If so how do they know what code mine is? I wasn't stupid enough to send the company the registration card with the safe information and the information about the safe is inside the locked safe. There must be a universal code.

There should be a serial number on the side (outside) of your safe. They can look up that safe's combo via the serial number.

Perhaps you missed my disclaimer. The intent is not to keep Law Enforcement out, it's to keep your safe from being compromised by the factory giving out the factory code by accident. Besides, if you are a law abiding citizen, and law enforcement shows up with a warrant, you should open the safe for them otherwise they will cut it open.

@cityfiedredneck6841

To my knowledge, nobody at Liberty has stated that they DON'T use one master code for all of the safes they sell with that feature. So, swapping locks may or may not be of benefit at all. Hiding the serial number may not as well. If you know of a source that states otherwise, by all means state your source.
@ExtremeDIYGuy
@ExtremeDIYGuy 11 месяцев назад
Liberty does not make their own lock bodies, typically, LaGard locks seem to be a popular option with them as well as Cannon. SO if you buy a LaGard to replace your, you should be fine. I seriously doubt, LaGard or any other supplier ships their locks with a single "Master" code. That would be idiotic since if that code got out, a person could get into every safe in the world with it.

I can't think of any reasons to use electric. Easy to bypass is just one reason though. A Bad battery A Short in a wire Not many electronics are gonna have the same lifespan as a regular old key or dial. People generally accept that electronics are not a lifetime investment, yet they will invest 1000s on a safe running on electric... it simply doesn't make sense.
