Love how you always give an honest review on things, so many people chuck in a lift/bigger tyres from day 1 of owning, when really the stock car will probably be completely fine for there needs
I just purchased a Triton 22 MR, put a tjm bar on front and full under neath protection, i have noticed adding the 100kgs its a bit stiffer at front over bumps, dropped 15mm but have had this car in all types of terrains so far, i would consider just beefing up the suspension for ride quality but do not need anything over 25mm as it clears most things now , i want to keep all the running gear as close to factory standards....
Wise words. I live in WA and find the stock Triton can do almost every track I need to go on, some of which are gnarly enough. I think driver capability is a bigger issue than vehicle capability in most cases.
My lift on my MR is about 80-90mm. After market UCA's, diff drop, the lift itself is Profender adjustable remote res, running 33.5's on a zero offset. Love it 👌
@@tedeganagondi Nah wouldn't need any of that if it's just body. How much was the 2" body? And did you do it yourself? I'm sort of considering adding 1" body to what I've got haha would love to get 34's on
2021 club cab Triton stock standard, use every 2nd weekend in WA, have loads of fun, and drive to work on week days. WA has some long distances to travel so long distance road comfort is a big factor too.
Great video as usual 👍 Some people act like you need a 3" lift and 33s to go to coles. 90% of people do it for looks and they just need to admit they spent thousands for looks but one day might do a dirt road to engage the 4x4 system.
Perfectly said mate. I'm still waiting on my new MR Triton (GLX-R) to arrive and have been enjoying going through your videos for your thoughts and ideas. I already know the info in this video and certainly don't intend on doing a lift for now, but it is great to see someone telling the straight up honest truth about it all. keep up the great work.
@@gavinmartin7187 fingers crossed there's no pushbacks for you. Some people say theirs came on time, some got pushed back multiple times. It may also depend on the model, apparently the GLS and up requires a chip/semiconductor which is increasing wait times.
After getting my Triton serviced. My mechanic warned me in replacing the rear rubber brake lines. At full droop, you could play a note on the brake lines. My lift was only 30mm. So if you lift your Triton, pay attention to brakes lines, ABS cables and locker cables too. You do need to modify them. No problems in the front lift, although my top swing arm is paper thickness at full droop with the shockers.
Will give you better approach and departure angles plus fitting the bullbar , winch and lights you may need an upgrade in the front to keep it all level. Large tyres need more power to spin them and they require bigger braking effort so not always an advantage. my np 300 has 255 65 17 stock in a Highway terrain. Ive fitted 265/70/17 mt light truck construction. gives an extra inch of lift . works well in the rocky stuff and mud but was rubbish everywhere else. If i did it again i would go a 265/65/17 all terrain. when stock suspension is flogged out ill get a 40mm lift and good shocks. I have bash plates which help slide over things that may get caught up .
Many years ago I knew a old fella who drove a Landrover Series 1 from Melbourne to Darwin in the 1950's... He took the roof off and dropped a full size kerosene fridge in the back so he could have a cold beer 🍺
I am waiting on a new Triton to be delivered and have been looking into a lift kit what are your thoughts on getting a aftermarket camber correcting top suspension arm. I have heard the stock arm limits down ward travel due to hitting the lower section of the shock absorber. Good channel keep it up.
Hi there, you should look at caravan adventure aus,on RU-vid,thay put 550ks constant rear leaf springs in back to tow caravan and weight in canopy, did the job but didn't lift front, like you said only lift if you need to.👍 It's a Triton
Thanks for your series of videos! My Club Cab MR is finally arriving next month and my plans are no lift kit, quality shocks (Dobinson MRAs), original springs with possibly a leaf removed from the rear, and 265/65x17s. I will run it very light with only a tow bar and no rear bumper. I would also like to try some quick release sway bars (for off-road only). Anyone have experience with that on the triton? Are they legal?
Thoughts on a front and rear 25mm spacer lift kit to help fit bigger tyres on stock 18 inch rims? Mines a 2019 GLS-Premium (I like the rims so wanna keep). Looking for a little more clearance and more aggressive look now that I have a fibreglass canopy installed. Cheers mate
I’m running 255x75x17 BFG Mud on my MQ with a 30mm lift Bilstien lovells spring. No rubbing. I assume that would be similar to an MR. The handling ride quality could be better with an upper control arm. It also gives me about 240mm ground clearance from my rear diff.
I've got a 2021 GLS Triton. I found the stock suspension absolutely awful. The ute feels nervous over bumps and then got totally worse when installing ARB bullbar, side steps and brush bars. Didn't really want a lift but went for EFS XTR which is 30mm. It totally changed its behaviour and drive like a dream when ute is empty. Love your vids, keep up to good work.
Got a 4x4 shop to do it for me. I couldn't get a kit cheap enough. Went online and unbelievably the 4x4 shop was cheaper to buy and get them to install. But please do get your brake lines extended, at full droop they will be tighter than a guitar string. Also get a small bracket made to fit on the diff to give extra length to wheel sensor and diff locker wires. Got my brake lines made by a local brake shop and 100mm longer than standard.
I’ve done many mods to my car but if I was to have my time again the first mods I would do is lift tyres bullbar and snorkel wouldn’t waste money on anything else beforehand
My MR has a canopy 85 kg, drawers 85kg, tow bar 35 kg and a fridge. On the front I have a bullbar also about 85 kg. When it's packed to go away it weighs in at 2,550 kg. It drives fine and sits well on the road. The only problem is when I drive on dirt roads with lots of undulations, it bounces a lot. It seems that the rear shockies are unable control the bounce and when I look underneath, the leaf springs sit fairly flat. It's a fair bit under its GVM so I find the bouncing a little disappointing.
I’ve spent about 20-25k on mods for my mr I’m just out of Adelaide maybe one day we can go for a 4wd compare the difference I’ve got 4” lift and 33s Diff drop and upgraded uca
When you consider 95% percent of travel is on the black stuff a lift is unnecessary and sometimes a liability - Over the years I've owned many lifted vehicles yet these days I don't bother - Good tyres, planning and driver technique gets me to where I need to go without any mods.
@@lukem2260I grew up in the golden era of off-roading which was the 90's... We had vehicles like the 60 and 80 Series, GQ Patrols and unlimited mods, parts and tyres along with open tracks to drive on. Now days things have become very restricted, Insurance companies have cracked down, laws have been changed and conservation has become far more important. My last serious 4x4 was a 93 80 Series... It sat on 35" TSL Swampers, a 4" lift ect... It was an awesome vehicle in those day's yet it would never pass today. When I was younger I just wanted to find somewhere hard to drive yet these day's I'm more inclined to plan a trip and drive to a destination without destroying my vehicle. I don't miss the days of filling my headlights with water, starter motors full of river silt, electrical failures and getting stuck overnight in sub zero temperatures in a vehicle filled with water.
I added some leaf spring helpers from Iron man to help with towing my Camping trailer, quite happy with it. Did your nose of the ute sag allot with the aftermarket bullbar ?
Hay Bro can you do a video on the biggest wheels and tyres that will fit in the triton or just AT tyres , not the manufacturers specs the real try it stuff with no scrubbing !!!! that would be awesome :)
Well I’ve got a 4” lift and 33” tyres on mine with +25 offset rims and it only just barely scrubs when at full lock. If I changed my rim offset I’m sure I could get it not scrubbing
I’ve got 265/70R16 on my stock MQ. Gives a little bit extra height and definitely rides better. Plus with this size your Speedo reads exact so be careful. As most cars read 5kmh higher than actual speed. The 265’s make it spot on accurate.
I’ve got 265/75R16’s on my MR which is 31.6” diameter. It looks pretty good-much better than the 29.4” factory tyres. No scrubbing at all, even when putting it through it’s paces off road. Would prefer a slightly wider and taller tyre (285/70R17-32.7”), but it means a wider rim, and it’s probably going to scrub without a lift or at least cutting the guards
Lol... I have 600kg constant load on my MQ Triton. Works fine on bitumen but I will be upgrading to Tough Dog 500kg+ new rear springs and shockies. +/- $1500
i'm looking for better rides, hard to find good ones apart from lift kits. Loaded 4x4 has a standard heigh kit that suppose to give a better ride. but the price is close to a lift kits installed...
Is yours an auto or a manual?, I brought a manual because I’ve never owned an auto ever, first car was a manual but I’ve been told auto’s a way better for off road 4x4, what do you reckon mate ?
Mine is manual. I agree that auto is easier offroad but I've always preferred manual for offroading. Bit more messing around but you actually get to drive the car 👍
I took a relatively light hit to the factory bash plate on my MR . Broke the front diff actuator, sucked dirt up the vacuum line to the control box on back of transfer box and had to replace both. Have since fitted after market 4mm steel bash plates. End of problem.
Hey mate you should do a get together with a heap of Tritons I would be down for it do a trip to eagleview or loveday would make for some good viewing👍
A mate of mine was trying to tell me they needed to lift their Triton because of the weight of the aftermarket bulbar... I just replied with 'ok' and changed the subject.
