This is a great vid, thanks mate. I did the same thing with my MQ. The taller tyres also corrected my speedo accuracy, and I also used a throttle controller to make up for the lost power. I’m happy with the overall outcome. And the throttle controller has paid itself off many times over now. When towing heavy loads up hills etc, is where you get the fuel savings. The only downside of the throttle controller is they void engine warranty, maybe other warranties too.
This is the best demonstration of a throttle controller which I've seen. I don't own one, therefore have not had the experience with one and have not been willing to spend the $ because the device doesn't change the power output of the engine. In my opinion, your video confirms that the device may be best suited as a cheaper alternative to reduction gears for slow low range crawling when the vehicle is fitted with larger tyres. Thanks for your time. Cheers
Gonna be getting mine today only because my Triton has really bad turbo lag to the point its dangerous, Coming out into traffic and my car deciding it wants to go slow when im slamming my foot straight to the floor cause their is a truck coming 💀
Ultimate 9 now do a bluetooth throttle controller (EVCX) so you dont actually need the physical connection to the unit. The unit can actually just sit in your glove box and you can then change the settings via their phone app. I have one in my MQ Triton and it sure does make a difference and the team at Ultimate are a really good bunch to deal with. I purchased my MQ second hand and it had one of their evc units, however, it kept resetting itself. I reported this to the team at Ultimate 9 and they replaced it under warranty with the new bluetooth model.
Good review. I just run in A-C after using it over the years. Delivery of throttle is just right in this mode and not jerky. As we know, it still jas that initial turbo lag off 😞 dle but better than the standard sluggish response signal from the computer.
I use one when towing and i love it. Switching between E6 or U5. I installed it at the same spot and the one issue is thaf you need to lean forward to see the screen.
Hey mate! Love the car, same setup as mine just with a mits alloy canopy I've had a tune but still have mad turbo lag, how was your turbo lag on take off? I feel the lag more when I'm slowing down for an intersection then go to accelerate and there's about a 2 second delay in lag
Had a dp chip and throttle controller on my MN made a huge difference especially in traffic Got a MR now but so far it performs great but have a SW chip and scanguage to use when towing a van Also reckon a catchcan which I fitted from the MN is a MUST stopped the crud in the throttle body of the MN and so far clean as a whistle with MR , only done 20K though
Hey reckon you could do a video of how it goes driving through ruts in 2nd gear?.. only reason when I take my triton through some and wanting the car to sort of idle through them. My Ute speeds up then I have to go through them in 1st gear if that makes sense 😂
The bigger diameter wheels should arguably reduce rolling resistance, especially on rough terrain. Chunkier tyres not withstanding. The bigger wheels have the same effect as putting in a taller diff ratio. The manual Tritons come with a 3.6:1 (3.67:1?) diff which I think is already a bit too tall given the peaky nature of the Tritons torque delivery. (I’ve had a MN and have a MR). The auto MQ and Pajero Sport have 3.9:1 and the MR auto 4.27:1. If you really want to restore/improve the response and ability to drive in sand/steep hills the shorter diff ratios would be a better bet.
hello, does it solve the need to slip the clutch during steep slope start? considering to buy the throttle controller (although using different brand) to solve theese issue. Oh btw I'm noticed the the MR Triton especially the manual one got pretty big dead zone at the accelerator which is up to almost 50% throttle and the anti stall system become noticeable at 2nd gear.
Hey, regarding clutch slip I suspect the throttle controller might make it worse as there's more throttle available. That said you way less likely to stall
I have one and its great but I never understood why there are 9 settings for each mode. Why not have 1 - 9 scale 1-3 eco 4-6 cruising 7-9 ultimate It just seems simpler to me
Good question! I didn't cover this as I don't know. Sadly Mitsubishi keep it pretty vague in terms of what voids a warranty. That said I assume if they can use it as an excuse to not honour a warranty they probably will.
Bad idea! Those things cause issues with the rubber hose that supplies air from the intercooler to the turbo to crack. This introduces a DPF and engine fault. Your risk however I know this because it happened to my MQ Triton
Well, although I love my Triton I'm certainly not a fan boy of Triton or Mitsubishi in general. There are tons of dual cabs on the market these days. Triton was great because of it's value for money but now even they're expensive. Without having driven any other dual cab I'd have to say the new bt-50 or Dmax are pretty capable, refined and a generation above the MR. Having not driven them though I could certainly be wrong 👍
They seem to be a really popular mod. I like the idea and not criticising those who instal one but I'd be concerned about warrantee. Same with catch can. Nice idea but warrantee-wise? Hmmm... Each to his own though.
@@jamesgillam6478 funny..our MQ 2016 recently cracked the exhaust manifold, 165,000k and 2yrs out of warranty, it was all covered as a warranty issue. We have owned since 2001 2 Magnas, a MN Triton and now a MQ. All have performed great and what issues we have had(1) we have been looked after well.
if you can plug it in then you can just unplug it, it isnt like an ecu remap. Same as with chips, plug and play, hard to prove you had one unless you tell them
I remember back in the day when stickers added horsepower to cars.. Just like commodores adding the chevy badge gave it extra HP.. oh no wait that just made them a bigger wanker :P
mate put one on his Lux, cheaper than getting a chip he reckoned, plus he did steal it out of one of the caryard cars he has coming through his workshop, so bonus
