"Fox News Channel pundits Greta Van Susteren and Erick Erickson have gone to war over Texas state Sen. Wendy Davis (D) and Erickson's characterization of Davis as "Abortion Barbie." According to Talking Points Memo, a blog post by Van Susteren calling Erickson a "jerk" goaded Erickson into publishing a gruesome anti-choice rant that described scenes more suited to an abattoir or an installment of the "Saw" movie franchise than a women's clinic.
"Wendy Davis has staked her career on the right to chop a child to bits, no matter how viable the child is," Erickson wrote on Monday night at his blog Red State.
Rather than the bullying "jerk" portrayed by Van Susteren, Erickson perceives himself as a courageous truth-teller, saying, "I have helped define Wendy Davis by a moniker that sticks, describes, and makes her the butt of jokes, while drawing out the shrill hysterics of her supporters.""* The Young Turks hosts Cenk Uygur and Ana Kasparian break it down.

Ravinian Women raised in a discriminative environment rarely understand that they are being abused. When I was raised by fundamentalists, I thought it was perfectly normal for boys to take college courses while girls were encouraged to find a husband and have babies right away. I thought it was normal to sleep on a hard wood floor in mid-winter as penance for minute social offenses, even ones no one ever saw. I once sang a song and said a "naughty word" and slept on the floor for a week thinking I was going to burn in Hell. And you think women raised conservative are going to fight for their rights or protest when all womens rights are oppressed? Of course they won't, they'll support their husbands and families and agree no matter what, just like they've been taught.

You could easily say the same for Obama or Bill Clinton, since they both pulled themselves up by the bootstraps without the help of mommy and daddy to go to top universities. Yet republicans hate them more than any previous presidents since the republican party is made up of people who had everything handed to them who can't stand to see somebody make it on their own. They bush and romney, people who were born with a silver spoon and have no idea what it's like to grow up poor.

If a husband decides to be a stay-at-home father, the Republicans rant about him "mooching" off of his wife; but if he helps to pay for any of his wife's bills, then he's a "sugar daddy". If both spouses work equally, and make about the same amount of money, the Republicans criticize the wife for not being a stay-at-home mother. In other words, for NOT using her husband as a "sugar daddy".

Politics in America is so weird. In other countries, you disagree on the role of the government, what aspects of national economy it should regulate and to what extent. You disagree on how to how to define poverty and how much support they should get. Etc. In America, politics is about constructing two entirely different realities. After Barack Obama came out as the pro-healthcare candidate for president, Mitt Romney started claiming HE was the pro-healthcare candidate. Here, you have a reality-TV star accusing Wendy Davis for being a reality-TV star. By all means, I'm sure democrats do the same thing sometimes. That doesn't make it any less bizarre. You have to start adhering to the same basic reality.

Ok, here we go... I was raped when I had just turned 21 yrs old. This happened to me one week and 3 days after I turned 21. I was a college student at the time and, yeah, I was partying! My rape wasn't at a frat house, it was at my home ( I commuted to my university). It was on a Friday night. I'd gone to a party, drank this and that ( mixed alcohols), came home pretty buzzed already and because I just got my license to buy booze, still had som tequila in my room. Well, I drank a ridiculous amount of that too. During that time, a "friend" whom I'd known well for 7 years (an immediate neighbor) called and came by. Half hour goes by and this friend offered to carry me to my room. 3 hours later I woke up with him on top of me but now climbing off telling me " you were awake the whole time and you wanted it". In my drunken stupor, I knew he was on top of me. I knew he pulled down my pants and panties to do this. I knew this and was trying to wake up for... I don't know or cannot be clear

I woke her up, ringing her bell and when she came to the door I couldn't speak. I just was mute but the look on my face was enough for her. She lead me into her home and sat me down and asking " what's wrong? What happened?" That's when it all hit me. That's when I KNEW it was rape and I could never pretend to be his friend again. That's when I KNEW that it wasn't my fault, that I'd been violated. I was so afraid to make waves...but I knew then that I was ... Raped, i.e. Damaged, i.e. The enemy of males now because of what HE DID!!! What HE decided to do to ME!

+edith bunker he was my friend. It wasn't easy to call the police and report this. I felt it was, in some way, a betrayal. To him AND to me. I never wanted this, I never wanted to be "a victim". Do you people understand? Anyway, because he immediately said it was "consent" I was fucked. Figuratively and literally. 4 weeks after this, I was just numb.i just wanted to forget it all because the cops did nothing. Ohhhh, I had a rape kit done. The cops questioned my behavior, they took the clothes I was wearing, they interrogated me about my drinking. Commented on the two tattoos I had basically suggesting I was already "loose". The rape kit consisted of me going to the hospital and having my pubic hairs sheared ( for evidence) and an "internal exam" which includes snipping off a bit of the inside of your vagina. Also my anus was inspected. This, people, is not a pleasant experience. And FYI, the doctor DID exclaim that there were rips all around my vulva.

If a women wants to abort her child she can, its her body and choice, and her getting pregnant may not have been her choice. She could have got pregnant but then her husband/boyfriend becomes abusive abd she has to run away and she has no immediate family/friends to go to or she was raped or the family is to poor andcant afford for another baby And the worst thing to have is for the baby to be born into a loveless family.

Ivan Vassiljevitsch I understand she gets worked up about this videos topic because she is a woman. But why? Is it a requirment as woman to defend every woman no matter what? Only way women are not supposedly getting paid as much as man is because they put every jobs together and count the average salary. So because some jobs are labeled as mans or womans jobs they make the argument that women doesn't get paid equally. Women can go work in these so called mens jobs aswell. manhunt48 I never said it was 'just women's rights'. But the video in question was referring to a woman, and the criticisms she faced for supporting safe abortion and accepting her husband's help. So these were the issues I addressed. The rights of women are just one of the many things that conservatives are attacking: I didn't have the time to compile a full list. I was simply giving an example.

Wendy Davis had her first child with her first husband, married him at 18, divorced at 21 NOT 19 as she claims. Her second husband paid off her TCU loan, then paid her way through Harvard Law (they too had a child). All the time at Harvard plus a vacation while he lived and supported the two children, she divorced him, too, immediately after getting back to Texas. Her campaign, Battle Ground Texas has been caught in voter fraud. She and her staff were also caught making fun of Gregg Abbott for being in a wheelchair, then publicly made a reference to having him tested to see if he is really disabled. He broke his back as a teenager and severed the nerves, paralyzing both legs. We don't want another Obama, not one running Texas. She wants to bring Common Core Education here, begin a State Sales Tax, remove State sovergnety, as 42 other stats also have done it as well. She's not good for Texas.

Call me old fashioned, but when you marry someone it's for richer or poorer. I thought you were supposed to help and support your spouse. Shouldn't the republicans/conservatives be for supporting your spouse? The whole problem with the abortions argument is that abortion is still safer than a full term pregnancy. So it is always reasonable to perform an abortion on a woman who does not want to risk her life carrying her fetus to term. This is a women's health issue.

Here's some evidence for about Texas: In Harris, Travis, Dallas/Tarrant, Bexar, and El Paso counties, where most of the educated and culturally diverse people live, every county was BLUE, aka Democratic voting, for the 2012 federal election. Houston currently has the first openly lesbian mayor. Texas is bigger than most countries in this world, having a population 1/3 the size of France but is larger in size. The some of the best heart surgeons in the world are in Houston. I live in Silicon Valley, CA, but the other most "techie place" is the Silicon Hills, TX. Ann Richards, Gov of Texas from 91-95, was an outspoken feminist. Richards was a Democrat. Please, before you go judge an entire 26 million Americans for the actions of one president and a cooky, gun firing governor, take it down a thousand. My friends in Texas will certainly vote for Wendy, b/c Wendy Davis is what Texas needs, in terms of social reform. Fiscally? I can't say. Cred: I am from Texas, and most of my family lives in Houston. We're a family of immigrants, where most of my family's women are college educated and most of the men are military. I stand with Wendy.

Jahannam Having the state decide what a women can and cannot do with her body is misogynistic by definition. And yes, an embryo growing inside a woman's body is very much a part of her body, just like any other cell in her body. One could argue that castrating men at age 50 is "common sense", 50 is really too old to be having children, and the chances of testicular cancer sky rocket around that age, so keeping the testicles after 50 is posing a needless cancer risk. I assume you would be in favour of castrating all men over 50?

I will not own up to them or the people that voted them in. It is my mission to drive these people out. Even if there is nobody like them in my region of the country, we need to unseat these people in these distasteful pockets, so people like you can no longer say use quotes ilke that, and falsely apologize, and presume that it is acceptable to instruct me to do anything, like "own up" for the actions of people that I oppose. I will not own up to the failure of allowing these freaks into the party, as I did not authorize it.

RealEros1 Just go to GOP dot com, and read the platform. Note that none of these issues that so many like to harp on are even addressed. Also note that individual freedom and small government, which are cornerstones of the party are in direct conflict with some of these outrageous positions.

GeuwgleSuxBallz I just came back from GOP.com. Regrettably, nothing there changed my mind about the Republican platform. For example: the so-called platforms for education and healthcare, were merely philosophical statements. There were no details or actual proposals on what or how they would handle education or healthcare. Actually, GeuwgleSuxBallz, I was pretty disappointed. I went to the site hoping to discover something tangible and real. Instead, I got philosophy statements that were so generic, just about any party could have written them.

I love it when the left doesn't know they're being mocked and have to argue against their previously held positions. The term "Abortion Barbie" came into existence to remind the left they called Sarah Palin "Caribou Barbie", at the time they defended calling Palin that by saying "she's a part of public life and is therefore fair game for insults". If course calling Palin caribou Barbie wasn't sexism. Fast forward a few years and the right have a field say with abortion Barbie and now it's "sexism". Calling her "Abortion Barbie" is a thousand times funnier than Caribou Barbie though, because it's true and it mocks the lefts fake pro-woman stance.

When in the hell do you have late term abortions anyhow? When the child isn't going to live anyway? When the mother's life is at stake? I'm against late term abortion unless it's under extreme circumstances (which it ALWAYS is), because there can't be a blanket rule for all cases. Heck, here (Australia) you can have an abortion at 22 weeks... but only under extreme circumstances! It's not like you can walk in like 'yo I changed my mind,' there's a huge humiliating process to go through. Chill out people.

Exactly. Most people, even those who are pro-choice, don't support "late term" abortions. I would only say it should be done when the child is beyond help, like the mother had a seizure late in the pregnancy and the child suffered some extreme harm, or something like that. If a woman really feels she must have an abortion, it should be early, before that baby begins to develop. It's hard enough on everyone involved.

Kitsune Aitsuki To get an abortion here you can't just want one. There has to be a reason, like if you are not emotionally capable of raising a child or there are circumstances behind it ect ect The key is access to contraceptives and morning after pills. There are even pills you can take five days later. Most of all I'm tired of pro-lifers making it out that pro-choicers want women to be able to get an abortion on demand, at any stage, because that's just not true. (Oh and the dead fetuses they hold up? Fake.)

Davis didn't live in a trailer park, it was a motor home in the back of her parents home, and it was 2 months. She was not divorced from her first marriage at 19 yrs. old, she was 21...She did not WORK her way through Harvard, her second husband paid for that, and paid of her TCU education. On the day Harvard was paid off, she divorced him too. Now she is distancing herself from her own campaign group, "Battleground Texas", from making fun of handicapped people, including Greg Abbott, her opponent. Then Battleground Texas was caught in a voter fraud pyramid scheme. I was born and raised in this great state, I would rather succeed than have her in office! Wendy Davis = Liar

By her own admission, she is not willing to give up even 1 percent of abortions. Nationally, opponents of the 20-week prohibition cite the same 1 percent statistic. Even if it is accurate - and no one can know for sure - that means 8,000 abortions a year after 20 weeks. The 20-week benchmark isn’t arbitrary. By then, the latest research suggests that fetuses feel pain. The respected University of Utah expert Maureen Condic recently testified before Congress that at 20 weeks, a fetus has “an increase in stress hormones in response to painful experiences” and other reactions that “reflect a mature, body-wide response to pain.” It is her view that fetuses “deserve the benefit of the doubt regarding their experience of pain and protection from cruelty under the law.”

There are too many annoying things to list, but one in particular is that, although not all Texan women do this, it is in no way uncommon for women from texas to take care of themselves and have big blond hair… so by implying that her having 'barbie looks' as somehow disparaging is super alienating to women all throughout Texas.

Erick Erickson isn't the one living in a bubble. He lives in good ol' America among millions of like-minded people. The fact that they are all wrong does not mean they live in a bubble, it means they live in ignorance. If there is a bubble, I regret to say, it is most likely filled with rational, reasonable people, who dream of a day when the majority of people will be reasonable and rational. I am a nurse and I used to work in an abortion clinic, and people would be surprised at just who came in for procedures. Many traveled from Utah to South Carolina to have an abortion, and yes they were Mormons. The #1 reason that women told me they were having this procedure was "I have raised my family I just cannot have a baby at this time in my life "

So much of this is dishonest and misleading. She became a big name in politics because of a filibuster against a bill that hurt abortion rights, that's absolutely a fact and its not honest to act like that isn't the driving force behind her political career to this point. And she did let on like she lived in the trailer park for years. That's not that big a deal really, but it was misleading.

Considering there's a still a whole campaign to run and the Republicans are just getting warmed up on the vile personal attacks that are strictly gender-based, you're going to see a whole lot more about Wendy Davis in the future. And it will just be a glimpse of the future Presidential campaign if the Dems nominate a woman.
