I really disagree that Miguel has less heart than the others, in Across the Spider-verse at least. His pain is palpable in the movie when he talks about letting people they love die. He knows how hard it is. He just has more control over his emotions, which allows him to undestand that the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few. IMO they have two options to conclude that story : either they find a way to go around the canon thing so Miles" father can survive without endangering the spider-verse; or Miles realizes that he has no choice and sacrifices his dad to save the universe. Can't wait to see how it wraps up next year !

I don’t think Miguel has less heart than the others. Even in the film we see him make fun banter with other characters and makes time for silly gimmicks (such as when he was slowly descending to talk to Gwen and Miles when it probably wasn’t necessary). But he just seems like a character who has been beat down a little too much throughout his life that he lost a bit of the optimism that comes with being Spider-Man. He still means well, however he seems to have become more pragmatic

He showed that there is always going to be an uncle Ben moment no matter what because that's what being spiderman is about. Facing your trauma and hardships and being bigger than any problem that comes to you but miles doesn't understand that because he wants to save everyone but spiderman can't save everyone. It's impossible. I'd personally be let down if the ending of part two was miles being able to save both his parents and everything else considering that there is a bigger lesson to be taught which is sometimes you cant save everyone and that's ok because you atleast tried.

I completely understand your sentiment but if saving one life leads to the deaths of many, many others you can't justify that. If Spider-Man PS4 took your advice he would have given the antidote to Aunt May and many, many other people would have died. He did nothing but stay with May in her last moments and he saved hundreds if not thousands of people who got sick from Devil's Breath.

@@chriss.249 That’s partially on the fact that Miguel’s so focused on maintaining the status quo on how Spider-Man stories play out that he doesn’t realize that he’s playing on the guilt of all the Spider-People’s reasoning as to why they wear the mask. Spectacular Spider-Man had it been at any point during the show would’ve absolutely been on Miles side. But since Captain Stacey died, his guilt led him to believe that upholding the “Canon Events” needed to be done. Ironic that Miguel uses footage from Andrew and Tobey’s Spider-Man when both of them and MCU Peter would’ve been on Miles’ side in a heartbeat because the whole premise of NWH disproves Miguels argument.

I thought Across the Spiderverse was better overall, but Infinity War handled the cliffhanger better. Spiderverse basically just blue balled the audience with the last 5 minutes or so. Might’ve been better for them to have ended the movie right after the Miles/Prowler reveal.

SPOILERS FOR ACROSS THE SPIDER-VERSE! They showed the amazing spider-man game in the movie when they showed the uncle Ben deaths

Everything is canon, Everything. Spoiler : Unrelated, but what makes me hyped the most, is that it looks like their plans have changed drastically. The second movie was about to be called " Across the Spider-Verse " and the third movie " Beyond The Spider-Verse ". But now Across The Spider-Verse has a 'part one and two', no more "Beyond The Spider-Verse".. why ? Well.. It makes me believe that the delay was not due to Covid etc... but rather than making the first part of Across The Spider longer and giving a cliffhanger, to introduce us to the multiverse, and the part two being about Miles exploring furthermore these Universes etc. But I highly doubt the spot will be beaten up in the next movie. I think the spot or miles is going to cause something that will entirely break the Marvel Multiverse. I do believe there will be a fourth and finale movie being worked on already which will be an insane crossover of already existing Spider-Men, or crazier, a cross-over with worlds that are non-marvel related. That would explain why it's " Beyond " the Spider-Verse. Even better, they've just announced a Live Action Miles Morales Movie. What if Miles gets teleported to the MCU for whatever reasons and becomes live-action ? That would let him being in Avengers Secret Wars!

it's pretty much canon at this point that everything that marvel has made and will made is part of the same multiverse just in one reality or another.

But considering what Miguel has gone through, he's right from his own perspective. He too tried to do everything by himself but he failed horribly and not to mention his future Era is very dark and gruesome which explains why he is the way he is. He's my favorite Spider-Man because even though he's isn't the perfect hero as Peter, he still tries to do the best he can and can make decisions that even Peter wouldn't is what makes him unique and human. He's not good or bad, he's neither a complete hero or a villain, he's just the guy who's trying his best for the mantle he's been given.

@@atharva7462 Actually, Miguel’s backstory in ATSV was made up for that movie in order to give Miguel a tragic backstory (Even though his actual origin story is also tragic.) EoT Spider-Man 2099 is completely different from ATSV Spider-Man 2099. And that’s because of different writers.

If I did have a nitpick with "Across the Spider-Verse" is that it's never addressed how Mayday is also technically an anomaly. After all, the only reason he even got back together with Mary Jane and a child with her is because of Miles. Had Miles not been bitten, than Peter wouldn't have a reason to mentor him, which motivated him to pick himself up and start over. Even if it wasn't meant to be, Peter ended up happier for it. I think this fully proves that Miguel is either straight up lying or he does not fully understand the the web of life and destiny because by his same logic, Peters world should be falling apart, because meeting Miles is not a canon event.

The difference is that in AtSV Miguel's case, the trial can range from either one or all universes collapsing, you can't afford to take chances.

Honestly I feel like he might be more of the focus story wise for part 3. Like how gwen was part 2

Well not all canon events happen in every world, but the outcome isn’t always great. Most versions where Uncle Ben lives, Peter doesn’t become he selfless person we know him. In the What if…? story where Gwen lives, Norman reveals Peter’s identity to the Bugle and cops raid his wedding ceremony so he goes into hiding. Similar to changing fixed points in most time travel stories, alternating one calamity might just replace it with a worse one.

All the worlds where the canon events don’t happened are replaced with some other unfavourable outcome. A “Damned if you do and damned if you don’t” scenario. I believe Miles still has a chance to save his dad, but there may be potential consequences that he has to face because of it, it just depends on how big it’ll be.

@@SteelSpurs Well, I did hear rumors that both he and Gwen would’ve eventually died had the Raimi films continued. As I said, it doesn’t happen in every universe, but another alternate bad outcome might take its place. Miles can still save his dad but it might bring another calamity in its place.

Another friendly reminder is that game is a sequel to Shattered Dimensions. Which completely contradicts that game as the Amazing Spider-Man’s universe was that, another universe, but in Edge of Time, it’s Spider-Man 2099’s past. Even though 2099 was another dimension in Shattered Dimensions! 🤪

Meaning not only has Peter been through the events of Shattered Dimensions, it's also possible that at the current moment if nothing goes wrong in the timeline, Spider-Man 2099 is still the future of that Spider-Man's universe, maybe even the 616 universe, and if we go by the Multiverse Time Travel theory this makes even more sense.

I don't think all of the Spider-Men know about the cannon events. Pavitr seems genuinely confused and scared when a tear in reality opened up on the floor of Mumbattan. I think the circle of Spider-Men that tried to talk down Miles is the group that actually knows about and let's cannon events happen. And even then we can see not all of the Spider-Men in the group is into the whole idea. Hobie might just be against Miguel because of his whole Punk aesthetic anti-establishment thing but it could also be that he knows about cannon events and isn't really in on the whole letting some people die to save others. Probably why he constantly tells Miles that being part of the Spider crew isn't all it's cracked up to be and to constantly think about what goal the group is trying to achieve before joining up. Most of the Spider-Men probably didn't chase Miles down because they know he's out to stop a cannon event but because the clear leader of the group Miguel told them to just capture Miles.

Totally agreed. If there was one thing to criticise about the film... it's this.

they believe Miguel when he says it'll destroy the universe, and they all believe they're doing the right thing. even Gwen and Peter B. are on Miguel's side at first. we as the audience understand that Miguel's theory is probably flawed. I'm excited to see the other spider people realize the same thing in the next film. hopefully we also get a Miguel redemption arc because I'm a big 2099 fan.

That's because most cutscenes nowadays uses the in-game engine to do them, not something pre-rendered like back then. If anything, you should be admiring the fact that GAMEPLAY looks closer to a cutscene than ever before.

This game is not so fun to play (too many long-ranged enemies, too few bosses, the time-paradox generate move is pretty useless), But it definitely has a compelling story, I really don't know why journalists back then said it had a boring and mediocre story.

The film kind of made callbacks to several past media. Like the death of Miles’ dad being a canon event began with the Ultimate Spider-Man cartoon which was then followed by the Insomniac game.

The thing is you see why Miguel is the way he is in ATSV. He tried to replace his alternate self in another universe and it cost him everything. Of course he'd be uncompromising. He knows first hand what trying to do things differently does. He just doesn't want anyone going through what he went through.

Why exactly would he try when the result could be the death of an entire Universe?

Canon events might not even be necessary and all he is really doing is letting innocent people die when they could have been saved. Shattered Dimensions actually gets the majority of the credit for the Spider-Verse movies existing, since the core concept of the movies stemmed from a writer on Shattered Dimensions feeling bad that the game missed out on the opportunity of having the different Spider-Men interact with eachother more.

@@lorenzosidotiarminarlert Beenox developed both games. Edge of Time may have come after Shattered Dimensions, but the roots for the Spider-Verse movies were planted with Shattered Dimensions.

@@andrewaigalew Actually, John Semper came up with the original Spider-verse idea all the way back during his animated TV series run from 1994. It's actually one of the better arcs where all these alternative timeline Spider-men get to bounce their differing personalities off of one another and defeat another Spider-man who's been corrupted by the carnage symbiote of the main Spider-man's timeline. It's rather tastefully done and this was a good decade before the next similar event, in Shattered Dimensions, would come along.

Yeah, the only one you can argue comes close to this is Noir has he is not with the other spidermen when confronting Miles and only appears in the end, when Gwen calls him to help her. The reason for this might be due to him not having any lines in the movie hence they didn't want to put him with the other spidermen due to it being ackward, but I like to believe he didn't agree with miguel's methods

I dont think it was done carelessly and maybe they even discussed your idea as a possoibility but decided it wasnt right. always gotta remember that they have knowledge of how it ends. it also highlights SPIDER PUNK as an important character. his whole thing is being a wrench in the system.

I think that's also a major factor in Miguel's recruitment. Any Spider-Man would act the way Miles did if their "canon event" hadn't occurred yet. That's why he avoids them until they're no longer a danger to the multiverse.
