I have a Polo 6N, 1.4 mpi, the standard ignition timming idling is 6°BTC according to the marks on pulley , but the engine is sluggish somehow here, if I turn the dizzy few degres in advance I really get it snappy. This engine employs a single Hall sender located inside the distribuitor body, wich delivers the timming signal for injection as well, so advancing the dizzy won't advance the moment of injection before the intake valve opens, with bad effects over mixture?

Does ignition timing change once the engine comes up to operating temp? I have a motorcycle that runs fine when cold but has a hunting idle once the engines warm. Previous owner had an aftermarket ignition module.

hey got a question for you i got 1990 blazer 5.7 tbi had engine rebuild about month ago got a few up grades bigger cam so i had to get my computer chip tune to raise fuel and timing on the chip i change pressure regulator and adjust that the cam i have in there is xe 262 h comp cam the block was 30 over.and i still have the factory swirl port heads i should had put some vortec heads on there...but for some reason cant get it to run right just dont have no power and im getting a ping sound from engine and #6 had oil on spark plug threads only the rest of plugs are fine i dont no where im getting the ping sound dont no if the oil on the spark plug have anything to do with it or something with the fuel and timing is not right..

Excellent!!!! Best vid. Def saving ! Ty! I just didn’t understand in the beginning when u said advance but it looks like your retarding . If advance does it mean to turn the timing in the direction of the engine movement when turned on ? So does that mean the spark is sparked when the piston is past the top dead center ?

I let a friend use my distributor off my tuned Skunk 2 99’ Prelude to check his H22A non tuned Prelude which was not firing on all cylinders,and now i’m running too rich! Should i just mess with the distributors alignment? Or have the tuning completely checked? Thanks!

Are the axis defined correctly? Shouldn't be that y-axis = Engine Speed and x-axis = Engine Load?
@hexmeshmedia3360
@hexmeshmedia3360 4 года назад
in what situation would you see the knock limit happen before mbt?
@engineeringcarsuniverse6524
@engineeringcarsuniverse6524 4 года назад
The situation that you describe is very common from mid-to-high load. I would dare to say that about 50% of the map is knock limited on natural aspirated engines. With forced induction, this percentage is way higher since engine load can go above 200%.
@chinoyosake8721

what is the best ignition timing at high rpm?
@engineeringcarsuniverse6524
@engineeringcarsuniverse6524 3 года назад
Only considering speed and load, the optimal ignition timing increases as rpm increases, and decreases as load increases.

Why overheat when delayed timing is used? makes no sence or is it because of the exhaust gases have not enough time to leave before ex. valve closes which means that "old" hot exhaust gas is caught in comb?

Thank you. I have a doubt. You said spark timing is retarded as the load increases and timing is advanced as rpm increases. But doesn't this contradict each other since the rpm increases as the load increases (% load = current airflow/Max airflow *100).
@Metroidfreek
@Metroidfreek 2 года назад
rpm is just how fast the engine is running, load is the resistance to the engine running. A car in neutral rev'd up to red line would have tons of rpm but no load, and a truck pulling a trailer at 1000 rpm would have a rpm but lots of engine load.

I wanted to watch this video because I'm curious if boosting a 392 could be safer on the engine if timing is retarded. Maybe that can be more gentle on the engine but then again, it might not make any net power gains.... *sigh
