That squeegee on the kick plate is to prevent liquid and spills from going under the boards. It is better if used properly.

Ooo, that's a good idea regarding the vinyl office strip. I know if I don't do something similar I might have a draft (old house). Thanks for making all these great videos Post & Beam!

Hi there - I don't have a power saw. But I have a hand held japanese saw. Can I cut successfully using your tape trick? And what kind of tape should I use? Thank you so much.

Great work, your attention to detail is impressive. Cant figure out why you put that vinyl baseboard behind it, any actual function? Also, what exactly is that corner piece on the toekick?
@postbeam8200
@postbeam8200 3 года назад
Wow you do notice tiny details! :) The vinyl baseboard is just there to close the gap between the drywall and the finished floor. I used vinyl because it was very thin and would not impact the ability cabinets or the oven to fit tight up against the wall. When possible I try and make sure there is a continuous interior envelope with as few gaps into the wall as possible. This cuts down on any air leaks and helps reduce the chance of pests getting in below the cabinets. And I think it looks cleaner. The little corner piece comes with the IKEA toe kicks and finishes off the exposed end of the toe kick once you cut it to fit. It also has a small lip on one edge that wraps around the corner to help hold the other toe kick firmly in position keeping the corner tight.

Do everyone a favor and cut out the first 6 minutes. If the title of the video says toe kicks please just talk about that.

Great video! Very informational about how toe kicks are installed easily. Is it standard that cabinet makers use a click type too kick plate? My kitchen island’s toe kick needs to be removed but I’m not sure if it’s attached - clip or nailed. I don’t want to lift the whole thing to know what’s under there as it has quartz countertop. So heavy. Any ideas? Thanks

Most regular cabinets I have installed in the past have the toe kick as part of the base plinth that supports the cabinet. Actually the IKEA design is kinda unusual here in the USA with a detachable toe kick, most regular cabinets the toe kick is permanent. If it is detachable like the IKEA is pops off without much force and is only about ¼" thick. Good luck!

Where did you purchase and who is the manufacturer of the legs for your Ikea cabinets? What height are the legs please? Thank you.

@postbeam8200 2 года назад
I made them using the IKEA Capita (Article Number 602.635.74) combined with the IKEA SEKTION (Article Number 102.655.18) colars and toe kick clips. Check out the Video called "Ikea Hack Fixing the feet" Where I show how I made them.

why bother with the vinyl baseboard under the cabinet?

Great video! How did you make the aluminum legs the right thickness for the toe kick clips though? I’m in the same situation.
@postbeam8200
@postbeam8200 2 года назад
I did a video on but basically I used the SEKTON leg and removed the plastic foot then slid that over the CAPITA aluminum leg to make it wide enough to attache the toe kick clip to it. Then I filled in the area between them with glue gun glue to keep to from spinning. Good Luck!

@@postbeam8200 thanks for the reply! I was thinking of cutting a piece of pvc pipe so it opens up a bit and snapping it over the aluminum legs. But you’re method would have the exact size for the clips and should work better. Thanks!

Great video, explains a lot. BTW, beautiful flooring. Is it real oak hardwood?
@postbeam8200
@postbeam8200 3 года назад
Yup. It's white oak, ¾ inches thick, plenty thick enough for a few refinishing over the next few decades, and best of all while oak is very stable when it gets wet, which happens a lot as people are constantly spilling stuff around here :)

They sell a kit (SEKTION LEGS) at Ikea that works without having to modify anything.

Squeegee side up? It's supposed to go down for a tight seal, dust, water etc.
@postbeam8200
@postbeam8200 2 года назад
Honestly your correct. However that squeegee is not going to stop water unless you have a very smooth flat floor or you silicone it down. The reason I put it upside-down is that it looks better aesthetically in my humble opinion. But each to their own. :)

I’m with you on this as my last kitchen with this squeegee fitting got water in places that were not tight to the older rough surface tiles this turned a greyish colour and was really hard to get into to clean.
