I painted at Scribble in 2004, then saw this live. That was a fucking amazing weekend. I even partied with Illmac after the show as my boy's hotel room was right next door.
+unfaithfully yours Swann had a good first verse but Illmac crippled him with the "insert actor's name" line. Notice Swann was mostly filler after that point - OT wouldn't have been any good.
Swann was dope. People here are jus blinded by how good Illmac was. Swann was on point this battle, which was the only close one Illmac had at Scribble that year imo
a true battle right here, illmac had to be a true champion to take down swan, mac lethal, franco, etc this year. A true rap champion he deserves any success in hip hop he can get
@wazza to fix a flat tire you need to jack up a car and jack you up also means beat you up or kill you. To come dope in a battle you rap well and crack is a kind of drug which is also called dope. Hope that helped
@Jaryism I do think I hear more hip-hop heads saying when they look ba k he should've won but part of battling has to do with how you're percieved in the moment. So I won't take away from illmac that he had the wow factor. Although I do agree that Swann should've taken the win
@@JaryismSwanns rounds can literally be used against anyone that’s short. That’s all it is. Short jokes. Illmac had punchlines specifically for Swann + rebuttals. The Macy Gray line alone won him this match
Swann is a great battler, he's basically a rhyming stand-up comedian. -He wouldn't have won all the battles he has without being good. Illmac is sick aswell, no one could stop him at Scribble '04.
dam … saw this years ago but didn’t realize how on point swann was. He came through with the punchline after punchline. fckin relentless, every two bars were strait murderous…. the only reason illmac was able to overcome this was because he came with the sicker delivery and flo, more complex multi syllabic rhymes and comebacks to some of swanns standout bars. Classic battle
Illmac was solid in this battle. Killer, especially considering he was 17. Way better than when he went up against mac lethal. Now, in my opinion, Illmac is presently one of the heaviest hitters in the game. Both his battle against Bigg K and Bender have some of the hottest lines I have ever heard. Ever. I know the current battles aren't REALLY "freestyle:, but I dare anyone to spit better metaphors and double entendres
@marino4691 yeah ur right about that but i was talking bout this new crowd of people that watch rap battles ( teenagers) most of them only wanna hear that one puchline/rebuttal that makes everybody go ooooh.
Swann's best lines were the Kobe one and the Paris Hilton one, and he could literally use those on ANYBODY. I highly doubt he freestyled them (wrote them beforehand), and even if he did, it's just a punchline with no remarkable cadence, with nothing specifically directed at Illmaculate. Illmaculate's Macy Gray line ALONE mocked Swann's rhyming style, specifically mocked his appearance, and was a seven-rhyme multi. Plus, Illmac had 4 awesome punchlines in the first round alone.
Illmaculate won this, but Swann was such a problem back then. and I've heard a lot of rumors that Illmac was preparing bars for him the night before, just in case he had to face him.
Of course he did. Scribble Jam is just filler freestyles or freestyle rebuttals mixed with some writtens (I'd say the only one I think was off the top 100% of the time and actually good was Franco, you can tell from his WRC performances). There's no way anyone in the world can freestyle "I don't want to sound cliche today but if you shaved your face with a razorblade you'd look like an overweight Macy Gray" or "Australian? A less distinguished version of an English person." and so on. Everyone did it more or less though, so can't really hate. Here's an example from this battle. "Everything you say is wack, play it back, he couldn't come dope if he ejaculated crack" which is the written punchline followed up immediately after by "Swann in this bitch, coming with the freestyle you know that I'm sick" which is obviously the freestyle filler. This is a constant pattern throughout all of Scribble Jam. The majority of the punchlines are writtens, then there are a couple good rebuttals that are free'd and occasionally there is a dope freestyle punchline that just forms itself in the MC's head, the rest of Scribble (a good chunk of it) is just freestyle filler. Sorry for the mini-essay haha.
Yeah, for example Justice's rebuttal against Thesaurus, the crowd just blows up when you throw a nice rebuttal in. I'm not even sure if a scribble would today because I dont trust kids these days to be able to tell off the dome freestyle from unrelated to the opponent written shit
I'm not sure that's completely true. I'm sure there were plenty of pre-meditated lines that battlers came up with while their opponent was rapping - not completely off the top but not pre-written either. What's witty about Swann's "this fag just comes up to my nut line" is that the setup is a pun on height, which makes me think that he invented it or at least modified it in order to fit Illmac.
Were we debating about Swann or are we analysing the judging at Scribble? *sigh* Whether you like to admit it most of the rappers at Scribble are pretty good.
he should of said ILLMAC WITH THE ATTACK, IM GOING FOR THE WIN, IF I COME UP TO YOUR NUT LINE, YOU MUST HAVE EM ON YOUR CHIN or something like that. point is flipping that line on him would've had more reaction but he already murdered this cat so no need for me to be writing this :p
Flaws with this battle: in the first verse swann didn't even mention a celebrity or attack his ill's appearance and compare him to anybody, but then right after ill said something about "inserted actors name" and THEN said he looked like Macy gray like 4 lines after. Swann should have won hands down
Nonsense. Swann mentioned Tiny Tim didnt he? And also, Swan is notoriously known for comparing his opponents to celebrities...and when Ilmac said he looked like Macy Gray it was perfect, because he had just said "But i can rap the same", meaning he can compare Swann to someone to...thus, Macy Gray
Did the same rap battle take place in a parallel dimension between two people similar to illmac and swann where illmac didn't counter half of swann's effectively? Is there a video of it on youtube?
All swann had were short jokes and filler, illmac specifically responded to some of his lines, switched it up and had more charisma, so no wonder he won this one.
