To help people find their way around a drive-in movie theater, I created an illuminated, steel pylon sign with waterjet-cut directions that can be moved and replaced for future expansion.

I don't normally comment on videos but I have to say how much I enjoy watching your videos. Your style and humor is what makes them as well as the fact that I envy and admire your creativity. Keep it up.

Ah yes!.. I learned about the tension in steel tubing a couple years ago. Needed a piece of steel 1/4" x 4", but didn't have any 1/4" plate lying around. Had a nice piece of 6"x6" though. When the tubing burst opened, it bound up the cutting wheel and the wheel exploded into shrapnel. Got a couple nice nicks in my neck and had to change my shorts before continuing with that project.

Just "leaving it and pretending it was meant to be that way" is a design choice I also find myself making more times than I'd like to admit. Really love watching your creativity be expressed through these cool projects!

Really diggin the design of that sign! Nice work! Also, it makes me so happy to see that even the best of us (you and some of your fellow youtubers) mess up, drop stuff, etc. I always feel so unconfident in my projects, but knowing that you guys have the same problems us plebes do makes me feel so much better! So thanks for including them in your videos, whether for that purpose, for educational reasons, or for comedic purposes.

You are able to do such amazing work with what appears to be so little. I've watched your videos for quite some time and have seen how you are able to make tools/fixtures for much less than buying brand name items. Great work and wonderful really cool things come out of your shop. Thank you for sharing your work with the rest of the world, and most especially me!

Great work, that sign looks incredible. One thing I'd like to point out though- I've seen an exploded angle grinder wheel go most of the way through a face shield like yours. It wasn't that exact same model, so yours might be better impact rated, but I'd always heard to wear safety glasses under those if you're doing anything with flying debris hazards- like the grinding wheel you had on your right-angle jig. Thanks again for the great video!

How does this video have so few views? Your work is right on par with Adam Savage's or Jimmy Diresta's. You need a collaboration project with Jimmy or Hand Tool Rescue or Adam Booth or something.

There something very satisfying about taking the hammer and with one solid blow, busting off a chuck of steel after plasma cutting. Id plasma cut all day, just so I could experience that all the time :)

Awesome project, Wesley! Quick question if you don’t mind... How do you connect up the cut ends of your LED strips where they go back on themselves? Thanks. Keep up the great work!
@WesleyTreat
@WesleyTreat 6 лет назад
I solder them in parallel, one wire across the positive contacts, one across the negative.
@videogalore
@videogalore 5 лет назад
Love it! Genuine question, but I can see how it might not be seen as that - how do you work through how many LED's/strip might be needed based on watt output, or is it just fit as many as possible into the space?
@WesleyTreat
@WesleyTreat 5 лет назад
It's mostly guessing based on experience, but I'll also test strips where I can before doing anything permanent.

Hey, know this is an older video (what can I say, I lika your stuffa) but, you mentioned at the beginning of this one (the drive-in theatricatron facilities sign) that they wanted to be able to change up the items on the signs. When you assemble it, each of the facilities is in a single homogenous strip, including the arrow. Now, it's probably just me, but, if the arrow will always point the same way for the same facility, doesn't that end up being that they can change the order of the things, but not what's being pointed at? Would it not make sense to have the arrows as seperate pieces? Genuine question - I probably missed something.
@WesleyTreat
@WesleyTreat 4 года назад
Making the arrows separate wouldn't really help, since the location of each facility doesn't change. But, when they add or remove facilities from the property, they can add or change out lines on the sign. (Just a few weeks after I made this, they had already added a couple new items to the sign.)
@Belzediel
