I’m still trying to figure out why you didn’t just jump off of the ladder and grab the middle of the backdrop to then ride it gracefully to the ground like a pirate - cutlass (or other implement of art/destruction) clasped firmly in your teeth… alas, that opportunity has passed now that you have created this system. 😂🤪 I always look forward to seeing your videos!

This ought to work better than your previous "system." Regarding fitment of that bearing, a trick I've used successfully is to heat the bearing - I've wrapped it in a wet towel & stuck it in the microwave; also used a toaster oven. Learned this from AvE's videos. (I've also stuck the axle/rod/shaft in the fridge or freezer.) PS: Thumbs up and thanks for posting!

Hint for cutting rope: Wrap the rope with painter's tape (enough to go around the circumference maybe twice or three times) at the place you're planning the cut. Cut in the middle of the tape, heat the ends to melt, then remove the remaining tape.. The tape wrapping holds the fibers together, keeping them from fraying while the rope's being cut.

In case you didn't know it already, they make adhesive lined heat shrink that's basically just regular heat shrink with hot glue on the inside that melts when you shrink the tubing. They have it on McMaster but you'd probably have had to order like 6 feet of it lol.
@donaldasayers
@donaldasayers 2 года назад
There is also the euphoniously named Star Brite 'Dip and Whip' which you dip the end of the rope in and it forms a tough covering on the end. Much used by the sailing fraternity and the dipping and whipping brigade too. Thou I wouldn't know about that.

There is "outdoor" heat shrink that had hotmelt clue pre-applied to the inner surface, which works well for the end of ropes. (I'm going to assume Wesley already knows this and just didn't have any in stock)

I am sure you know, but you can get photo backdrop vinyl which granted is heavier, but it lasts a lot longer and you can clean it. I forget where I bought mine years ago, but it was a 10-12' wide and 30 some odd feet long. Lasted for years and was in good enough shape when I closed my studio, I sold it.

I wanted to ask the exact same question. Especially because he puts it on the floor and puts stuff on it. I would imagine that it doesn't stay clean for long. -And I would assume that such a huge roll of paper isn't inexpensive.- Edit: they are surprisingly cheap. Yes, as long as the rope doesn't have a shitty, unmeltable core like this one.
@mrtnsnp

@@WesleyTreat That is hard to judge over the video. By the way, while a melted joint (when possible) is usually as strong as the rope itself, it is also brittle, so it snag or break on the pulley regardless.
