Today's video is a special addition to the upcoming Episode 5 of the Illustrated City series. The series takes you to different destinations around the world, where we meet artists and explore the cities they live in. The [EXTRAS] format will showcase additional places and expand on topics touched on in the main episodes.
I invite you to the world-famous SuperAni studio in Paju, South Korea, where the great artist Kim Jung Gi worked. The founder of SuperAni and Kim Jung Gi’s good friend, Hyun Jin Kim, shows us around.
I had the pleasure of meeting Kim Jung Gi a few weeks before his passing in 2022. It was a very touching experience to see his workplace. Thank you to Hyun Jin Kim and other artists for the warm welcome.
Last month, the SuperAni team opened a museum dedicated to Kim Jung Gi. I encourage you all to visit if you can.

That shot of Jung Gi's art station, still standing the way he left it, frozen in time... tools still scattered around... undrank water bottle... work left unfinished. You're half expecting to see him walk in, sit down, and start drawing away like he used to do every day. It's absolutely heartbreaking. To say "we miss him" is an understatement. If it wasn't for him, I probably would have quit drawing all together. But, his hard work and dedication to his craft was so inspiring... I feel compelled to continue on my creative journey, not just for myself, but also in honor of him. Rest easy, Master Kim. We love you.✌️🖤

Hi! Thanks for the comment. I’m happy you liked it. I decided to keep it B&W as a form of a tribute to Kim Jung Gi. I believe making it colourful and vibrant wouldn’t be appropriate at this point. 🤍 There is a full length episode on the channel (Episode 5) which covers my visit at SuperAni studio as well -in which you can find some footage in colour. ✌🏼
