Aurangazeb also killed Son of Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, Chatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj . He was asked to convert to islam , he replied won't convert even when he is bribed with Mughal emperor's daughter for this he was made dance in the courtroom , ridiculed , skinned alive, beheaded and body parts were fed to pets. His served head was sent back to his home in the maratha empire.

@@Freeman_pedia Actually there is more to this. The umbrella is seen as a symbol of fame or importance with emperors and kings shown with umbrellas in coins and stone carvings to display their importance. This can be seen in almost all Indian thrones having fixed umbrellas as well temple deities having ornate umbrellas as part of ceremonies.

The "th" in "Maratha" and "Marathi" is more of a breath-y "t" sound, not an ð sound. In English a more accurate pronunciation would be a hard "t", like the th in "thyme". The ð sound is fairly unusual throughout the world, English is one of the few languages that use it.

Putting hot iron rods in his eyes, poured hot oil in his ears etc and said that he would stop this torture if Sambhaji converted to Islam but Sambhaji never agreed on that and never converted to Islam and was cut slowly slowly into pieces but never converted into Islam. He was always true to his religion and his father's principles. It's strange that in India you can't say that the Mughals were oppressive especially say something about the intolerance by Aurangzeb. We are taught nothing of his actions against the Hindus, it's only because of the internet and comman knowledge we know about his real image. Once I personally asked my history teacher about him, my teacher said that he was a great king because he lived a simple lifestyle unlike other mughal kings.

@@Freeman_pedia Sorry for replying after so much time, but Akbar wasn't perfect either. Of course compared to other mughal kings , he was 1000 times better but he attained the title of ghazi (killing 10,000 or more hindus I dont know the exact number ) at the age of 13. He later famously massacred about 100,000 and more Hindus at various places such as Chittor. He only was little tolerant so all the mughal loving people glorified him so much that all his acts against Hindus basically vanished.

Since I am a local and a maratha as well, here are a few facts about this conflict : (I am no historian, but these are the things you won't find in regular "textbooks" ): 1. The most important thing which in favor of us is the mountainous terrain which made it difficult for the mughals to transport their large cannons and elephants. You can say they were practically useless on mamy occasions. 2. Marathas never attacked head on. It was always hit and run. And it was devastating for mughal army, which were not used to the climate and the terrain. 3. We kind of bankrupted the empire. Marathas used to capture mughal noblemen with Swift movements and surprise attacks and they used to release them after taking heavy ransom. And this used to happen over and over again with a same person. It was more devastating than simply executing the guy. 4. On one occasion, only 2000 maratha soldiers raided the camp of the emperor himself ( which had 100k+ people). Arungazeb literally escaped death. Ether he hid somewhere or he wasn't there at that time, don't know for sure.

Maratha history is more complicated than Game of Thrones. You have uncles killing nephews only for Baelish to suddenly take control of everything. Things got more and more complicated because there was very little stability in leadership. Also as an aside, Chhattrapati means bearer of the parasol. Anyone who swore loyalty to the Chhattrapati was under the protection of the parasol. Peshwa means the first, a word taken from persian.

Marathas and Habeshis became a military caste under Deccan sultanates around 1500 ad their overlord were defeated by the Mughals because of this they fled into the caves hills marshes and forests when a succession crisis took place among the Mughals they were emboldened the habeshis were too small to found an empire so they made small coastal city states who had British favour and who were initially under Maratha suzerainty Marathas eventually used the succession crisis in their favour and reduced them to subservient city-state when Maratha hegemony was shattered in 1818 the maintenance of subservience went to the British and the remnants of the ashtha pradhan ( the Maratha cabinet of officials ) which were made vestigial in 1818 were snuffed out after the Peshwa was deposed in 1858 along with the Mughals which were only prestigious by name ( they along with the bhonsales were allowed to keep the title of emperor until 1858 ) at that point remnants of the great Maratha empire remained until 1949 under various levels of independence

there are no conflicting claims about the cruelness of Aurangzeb. He was a cruel islamist. his own court records mention that. moreover his predesessors were also cruel and not so tolerant.

I would like to correct you on one thing. Major history about the Mughal empire was written by Mughal historians themselves. That's is why we have so many of those accounts saying Mughals ruled Bharath peacefully. And not just a few temples were demolished. More than 40,000 temples were demolished. The ruins and the temple history themselves are proof of it. Maratha was not the first to rebel and neither were they the last. But Chatrapathy Shivaji Maharaj effectively took back out land, bringing a lot of Bharath back from Mughals's clutches. There are history written and recorded by us Indians, but British discredited them and the world still continues to do so. P.S - Not one guru alone, mank Sikhs were killed by them because Sikhs protected the Hindus against brutal conversion.

Please stop talking about your methods, College Board, Star Wars, and attempting to make the topic "fun" (it's already interesting, it doesn't need help if explained well). Perhaps these time stamps can illustrate how much breath you wasted on information that only serves to distract from the actually important stuff. 3:30 Finally starts talking about history 5:15 You can skip to the next timestamp 6:04 The main course (most of the following 6 minutes or so is very well done) 9:09 Telling two versions of the same story makes it difficult to remember which one actually happened 12:20 End main course, but potentially important if you're actually an AP student watching this 12:35 The rest isn't really important

It took you 8 minutes of your 14:20 min video to finally get to the maratha, and even after that, you've actually said more about the mughals than maratha. To add insult to injury, much of those first 8 minute were spent on useless rambling. You should have called it "What brought down the mughals", or something like that. 2/10
