Iloilo City - Doesn't Need Skyscrapers (Seriously) 

Wow Iloilo! One of the oldest, most preserved and best Cities of the Philippines. Being recognized by the UNESCO City of Gastronomy which is home to the famous La Paz Batchoy, Pancit Molo, KBL, Kansi, Laswa, Native Lechon Manok, Binakol, Original Chicken Inasal, Biscocho, Baye-baye, etc. ASEAN Clean City Awardee, The City of many Firsts, Festival Capital, Bike Capital of the Philippines and the 2nd most progressive City in the Visayas.

Zürich in Switzerland and Salzburg in Austria are two examples of European Cities Iloilo can emulate because of their landscapes. These two Cities have also natural rivers with similarity to Iloilo. Yes, no skyscrapers but they attract more tourists because they capitallize more on their heritage, culture and traditions, their food, their history. Skyscrapers do not always represent how rich and wealthy a particular city is. In Germany where I am based right now, their ciities are miles and miles wealthier than our Manila and Cebu but they do not want to build Skyscrapers beacuse it is just not their thing. Only Frankfurt in Germany has the skyscrapers because it was hard to restore the old buildings after WW2 so they (the Germans) decided to try the American way of rebuilding their city. Take the case of Berlin for example. It is Germany's largest and most populous city; the demand for housing and office space is overwhelming but why has only 12 buildings with above 100 m in height? Because like i said here in Germany skyscraper is not really their thing although they have so much money to build one.

Hindi kailangan ang matataas na building kasi malapit ang Iloilo sa subduction zone sa Anini-y, Antique which is very active in geological movements!

I agree...iloilo city don't need skycrapers, mas ok na yong sasabihin ng mga tourists (local/foreign alike) na parang nasa europe ka lang pag na visit ka sa iloilo city.

I agree...If ever skyscrapers will be built in the future...mas nami kung sa Mandurriao nalang tanan para ma maintain ang uniformity in both the old and new CBDs, in terms of look.

Skyscrapers will just cover the blue sky ! Here in LA & Orange County, California there's barely any skyscrapers. If there is a disaster like earthquake it will be scary to be on the 20th floor. I don't like skyscrapers. In Manhattan, NY I've been there 6 times it doesn't make any difference it makes the city dark. In Zurich, Switzerland, Austria and Rome, Italy there are no skyscrapers. In London only few in Germany few also. In Greece there are none at all.

The more spread out a city is, the more difficult it is to provide services to all the areas. Density is what most cities look at. One of the easiest ways to obtain density is vertically. It seems it would be easiest to build vertical now, rather than build 15-20 stories now but end up wanting 30-40+ later. Planning and zoning with strict land use should be in place.

Poor people can't benefit from skyscrapers. Iloilo should focus first on job creation like building economic zones. Nothing is better than a place with low poverty index.

Sa Helsinki finland daw pinakataas Nila 22 storey man lng..Isa ang finland sa europe nga progressive country. Daw ang current tallest building Nila sbng daw 134 meters

I live in one of the most expensive cities in the world and high rise building here is not that impressive. I prefer the mid rise building in Iloilo. High Rise building doesn’t define the prosperity of the place as long as there is no tent cities.

Ang sa case sang terranza daw gin ligwat gd nila ang layi para maka gwa sya sa heritage area... Any ways sa current economic boom sng city daw kinanglan gd skycrappers para ma accommodate ang demand kay kun indi makadto sa iban nga lugar labi nagd sa tabok. Para sa akun mas mayu nga ma vertical structures kaysa "reclamation" kay basi may impact na sa pagbaha dira sa downtown area kay manubo na dira...

I understand everything you said. I own a house in Iloilo and I have always said that Iloilo is a "hollywood city", in other words, the whole place tends to put on an act that it is something that its not. The Ilongo people are NOT that style of people..... so WHY do they "pretend" so much?

Ang Makati nag umpisa sa Ayala Ave nga sang una mga 10 storey bldgs man lang... Now, they are replaced with skyscrappers. I foresee nga amo man na ang matabo sa MW Iloilo. Todays technology bldgs could be build in any soil conditions. Case in point, sa Dubai gani sa dagat o reclaimed lands ang may mga supertall structures nila!

Bacolod is more progressive because there are more taller buildings sprouting?...in negros Occidental. Where Bacolod is situated , there are more cities like talisay , silay, Victoria's,Cadiz,sagay,escalante,San Carlos, bago, la Carlota, himamaylan, kbankalan, that's why, how many cities are there in Iloilo province?

let's get real. bottom line - it's all dictated by business sense. if businesses don't see the logic of their investment returns there, no amount of advertising promotion can convince them otherwise. but if they see great potential, they'll be willing, regardless, to jump through beaurocratic hoops to invest there. because after all - it's their money.

Naawa ako sa Iloipot city, manduriao lang skyline ang mas malala pa "PUTOT BUILDINGS PA ANG MGA NAKATAYO" di kagaya ng Bacolod city napaka ganda at napaka angas may uppereast na at may Rockwell pa at pupwedeng pupwede kahit ilang Bhurj Khalifa sa syudad. Ehh ang Iloipot? Sino bang hindi aantukin sa Iloipot buildings? Malamang yung mga Tikalon na Ilonggoys mabababa yung taste ninyo ehh kasing baba nung height nung mga buildings na pinapatayo nyo jan ewsshhh
